Letter from the Founder/CEO and Board Chair Dear Friends of School on Wheels, Thank you for helping us inspire learning, empower families, and end homelessness. Because of your generosity and advocacy, we are deeply impacting the lives of children and families experiencing homelessness in our city. This past school year, we served more children than ever before with the support of a record number of volunteer tutors. Volunteers, donors, and our community partners help School on Wheels be a consistent presence in the lives of children impacted by homelessness across Indianapolis. Your support is the reason we hear joyous exclamations during tutoring from students like second grader Karli who proclaimed “I CAN do it! It’s just fractions!!!” at the end of tutoring after working through problems over and over again with her tutor. When a child learns something new in tutoring, we all experience that child’s joy and triumph. When a parent of a child we serve becomes empowered to navigate her child’s education through School on Wheels workshops and meetings, we share her confidence. We are humbled when a mother writes to us and says, “Thank you for working with my child - it not only helps him, it helps me too.” With your generous financial gifts, thousands of volunteer hours, and unwavering support, each day we are able to offer a program where our students feel safe, supported, and empowered to be successful. Our Mission Our mission is to provide one-on-one tutoring and educational advocacy for school-aged children impacted by homelessness.
Our Vision Our vision is to equip children impacted by homelessness with the educational tools necessary to achieve success in life and break the cycle of homelessness.
