Indian High Commissioner strengthens bilateral ties during Hobart visit

Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay recently paid an official visit to Hobart at the invitation of the Government of Tasmania.

The visit underscored India’s commitment to deepening partnerships across various sectors, including agriculture, energy, education, mining, Antarctic research, and cultural exchange.During his visit, High Commissioner Baglay met with key Tasmanian leaders, including Governor Barbara Baker AC, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Chris Shanahan, Legislative Council President Craig Farrell MLC, House of Assembly Speaker Michelle O'Byrne, Deputy Premier Guy Barnett, and Luke Edmunds MLC. In his honour, the Governor hosted a banquet dinner attended by distinguished guests from diverse backgrounds.

The High Commissioner also held discussions at the Department of State Growth and the University of Tasmania, focusing on expanding collaboration in research, trade, and investment.

He engaged with Indian community leaders, highlighting the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties.

The visit also explored opportunities in tourism and audiovisual production, with Tasmania’s picturesque landscapes offering potential for film and media collaborations. The High Commissioner’s engagements reinforced the growing multifaceted relationship between India and Tasmania, paving the way for stronger bilateral cooperation.
