A taste of Australia in Chennai: An evening of flavours and connections
By Dr Ram Mohan, Editor
Attending the Australian culinary night at Taj Coromandel in Chennai, recently was an experience that engaged all my senses. From the moment I walked into the elegantly set venue, there was a distinct air of excitement—an intersection of culture, food, and warm hospitality that made the evening unforgettable.

The Australian ConsulateGeneral in Chennai, along with the Austrade team, had curated an extraordinary menu that brought the essence of Australia to our plates. Each dish told a story—delicate Australian oysters that tasted like the ocean, rich Tasmanian salmon that melted in the mouth, and succulent Aussie lamb cooked to perfection. Every bite was complemented by fine Australian wines, enhancing the flavours and making the evening feel like a journey through the vibrant food landscape of Australia.

Beyond the culinary delights, what made the night truly special was the company. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Palanivel Thiagarajan, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, and Ms. Silai Zaki, the ConsulGeneral in Chennai. Our conversations reflected the growing ties between Australia and India —not just in trade but in culture, people, and experiences.

As I left the event, I carried with me not just the lingering taste of exquisite food but also a deep appreciation for how food brings people together. This night was more than a celebration of flavours; it was a celebration of connections, of shared experiences, and of the joy that comes with discovering something new. I look forward to more such moments where global flavors meet local warmth, right here in Chennai.
