Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club will reach its 70th anniversary in 2025! This will truly be a milestone to celebrate. The Club has come a long way from a farmhouse with nice property to today’s Club that is a unique gem. The Club is unique with its fabulous golf course, wonderful indoor racquet facilities, and a marina dock area that creates a beautiful setting. Our Clubhouse has been recently updated and we constantly strive to repair and maintain all our current assets. Most importantly, we have a membership recognized for its welcoming manner and friendly spirit.
In my August SS article, I mentioned that the Board is responsible for long term sustainability of our Club. It is imperative that we make decisions for today’s members as well as tomorrow’s new members. We want our Club to celebrate again in another 70 years!
To that end, the Board has set key foundation documents for long-term sustainability:
1)Strategic Plan
2)Facility Master Plan
3)Major Capital Project Prioritization
4)Capital Asset List (repair and replacement schedule for existing assets)
5)Segregated Capital funds dedicated to large projects and assets, separate from operating funds
Indian Creek is in the forefront of having these key components for future growth. The Board of Directors is committed to continuing investing in our Club and will be sharing plans for the Aquatic and Exercise space with you as soon as possible. I am excited at this enhancement to our facilities and know you will be also. All members need to encourage their neighbors to join our Club, be an ambassador, strengthen our member base. This is always the most important element for any Club’s success.
I invite you to the Annual Shareholder meeting on November 19th at 5:00 pm. This meeting will review the operations and capital happenings from the last year and will elect two new Directors to the Board. Sign up for dinner after the meeting. Join us!

We’re excited to announce our participation once again in this annual Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade, and we want YOU to be a part of the fun! Bring your enthusiasm, dress in festive attire, and help us represent the club with pride.
Date: Friday, December 13 Time: 7 p.m. (Arrive at 5:30pm to setup) Meeting Location: Chesapeake Commons (Kilmarnock)
Let’s make this year’s parade unforgettable – we’ll have plenty of cheers, decorations, and smiles to share. All members and families are welcome!
if you would like to help with the parade - be it by walking, riding, crafting the float, please contact Megan Stephens, megan@icycc.com.
Let’s all make an effort to be warm and welcoming! A friendly smile, a kind greeting, or a small gesture can make a huge difference for someone new. Whether it’s their first visit or they’ve been here for years, a genuine welcome creates a sense of belonging and strengthens our club community. Let’s work together to ensure that everyone feels valued and included
One way we are making it easier to know if someone is new or not is by using a blue napkin for all new members If you see a blue napkin being used - please feel comfortable introducing yourslef! Your kindness can turn a stranger into a friend and help make our club a place where everyone loves to be!

As I write this, my last Commodore’s Corner, we have completed the Yacht Club Annual Meeting and are on our Land Cruise to Charleston. After this week’s adventures, all that remains in my tenure as Commodore is the Commodore’s Ball. As I reflect back on my time as Commodore, I am grateful for all the wonderful memories that were created, and the old friendships that were strengthened and the new friendships that were begun The Yacht Club Annual Report has an old Irish proverb on the back cover that I think sums it up well: “There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the sea, but the best ships are friendships, and may they always be.”
It has been a privilege to serve as your Commodore this year!

It's extremely important to find golf clubs that fit your specific needs. With a driver it can make the difference of a straight and long drive. Here is an example of a poorly fit driver vs a driver that fits the player. Upcoming

Speaking of Results - Those who played in this year’s Men’s Member Member Tournament after 3+ inches of rain can attest that the recent renovation of the bunkers on 10 and 14 have proved to be a success! Both bunkers drained in record time and were ready for tournament play that morning.
As we move further into fall, the course is in excellent shape, with particularly strong progress on the greens Thanks to steady recovery from last month’s environmental stresses, we have returned the height of cut (HOC) to our fall standards. Recent treatments, including nutrient applications, venting with ninja tines, and top-dressing, have significantly contributed to the greens’ quick rebound. Please note, aerification is scheduled for November 4th and 5th, and the course will be closed on both days.
This month, we’ll be focusing on a variety of tasks:
Clubhouse Landscaping: Pruning shrubs and planting flowers to prepare for the upcoming seasons
Winter Weed Control: Addressing weed management across the entire campus.
Tree Trimming: Targeted work on holes #10, #14, and #16.
We’re pleased to report that the final bunker renovation of the year has been completed. As always, we appreciate your ongoing support as we work to enhance and maintain the course. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sending out a survey to gather your feedback on which trial bunker design you prefer Your input will be instrumental in finalizing our comprehensive bunker renovation proposal
Capital Project Updates:
Chemical Shed: Nearing completion, with only the final electrical connection to the container units remaining.
Wash Pad: This project is finished! However, the final cost exceeded the budget slightly due to the need for additional concrete after we discovered a higher-than-expected water table during excavation.
Sickle Bar: Assembled and in use, the sickle bar has been especially effective in clearing plant material from several creek banks on the property
Staffing Update: We are currently operating without an Assistant Superintendent, Course Set-Up Personnel, or Irrigation Technician. However, our international staff will continue to assist through the end of October, returning in March 2025.
Did you know that the word "caddie" comes from the French term cadet, meaning young boy or helper? Mary, Queen of Scots, is credited with introducing the term when she had young cadets carry her clubs on the golf course
Thank you for your continued support and stay tuned for more updates! Warm Regards, Peter Stephens, CGCS
