MAY 2025

BY BRIAN DARLAK FROM THE DESK OF THE GENERAL MANAGER
April Showers Bring May Flowers… and Plenty of Club Activity!
With all the rain we had in April, we’re sure to see some spectacular blooms this May! Mother Nature certainly made investing in an umbrella a wise choice, but the weather didn’t stop the fun — it was fantastic to see so many outdoor events and activities getting underway. From the Sock Burning tradition to our Outdoor Racquet Social, and the kick-off of the Golf Leagues, the 2025 outdoor season is officially in full swing!
In early April, we hosted an All Member Meeting to share updates on the Pool Complex Project, including design concepts and funding strategies. It was wonderful to see strong member engagement, with a great turnout in person and over 50 members joining via Zoom. The presentation was recorded for those who couldn’t attend, or for anyone who would like to revisit the details. Click here to watch the recording.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Club President Ken Kopocis at president@icycc.com or me at bdarlak@icycc.com.
A financial highlight worth celebrating: As discussed in the meeting, the Club successfully paid off a second commercial loan in April, using our cash reserves. That’s two loans paid off in just the past two months! While we still carry two commercial loans on our balance sheet, one is scheduled for repayment later in 2026. The other is a 10-year loan with a sub-4% interest rate, which will continue to be repaid on schedule.
Finally, I’d like to extend a heartfelt invitation to our 70th Anniversary Celebration on May 3rd. It’s a meaningful milestone, and we’re excited to recognize all the hard work and planning being done to set the Club up for success in the next 70 years.
We hope to see you there!

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS
by Megan Stephens, Membership Director
In a world that moves quickly, the simple act of gathering sharing a meal, a conversation, a moment has never been more meaningful. At ICYCC, we believe there’s true beauty in bringing people together, whether it’s a spirited round of golf, a cozy dinner by the water, or a celebration that fills the room with laughter.
Gathering is about more than just being in the same space. It’s about creating connections, building community, and turning everyday moments into lasting memories. As we look ahead to a season full of events, let’s embrace the joy of showing up, the warmth of welcome, and the magic that happens when we come together on purpose, with purpose.
Here’s to making every gathering count
Jay & Liz Patton Timothy & Sandra Saunders
Let’s give them a warm ICYCC Welcome!
Reminder: If you are dining and see a blue napkin, stop and say hello and welcome our newest club family members!

COMMODORE’S CORNER
ByBobYoung,Commodore
I had planned to launch Liberty last week but the day before the scheduled launch I realized the temperature the next morning was going to be 37 degrees. Brrrrr! The good news is all the work is done and she is ready to go as soon as the weather warms up. I hope your boat prep is on track as well.
I am really looking forward to the Spring Fling on 26 April. Rear Commodore Young (no relation) has a fun-filled evening lined up for us with dinning and dancing. In May, we will have our annual Flag Raising ceremony kicking off the boating season. Our Shake Down Cruise will follow that weekend. On Saturday, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be at our Marina conducting vessel safety inspections in the morning. If you are not familiar with these inspections, an inspector will thoroughly go over your boat making sure you are in compliance with all Coast Guard regulations for the size of your boat. As part of their visit we will also conduct flare training using both pistol fired flares and hand held flares. As a special addition this year the Coast Guard will bring along Oscar (a weighted dummy) for Man-Over-Board (MOB) training. This will give you an opportunity to see if your plan for recovering a MOB is adequate. Registration is now open for both events.

Turf Talk
As we move deeper into spring, our team has been hard at work tackling a variety of projects aimed at improving both course conditions and overall aesthetics. While weather challenges have kept us on our toes, we're seeing steady progress and are excited for the season ahead.
Tree Maintenance & Management
Tree work has continued across the course, with several projects now completed or in progress:
• Behind #13 Green, stump holes have been cleaned out and backfilled with topsoil following tree removal.
• At Hole #16, we’ll be addressing the remaining stump hole with the same process in the coming days.
• Moving forward, our tree management plan includes ongoing assessments to ensure a balance between turf health, playability, and the overall beauty of the course
Course Enhancements & Maintenance
We’ve also been focusing on improving key areas around the course:
• Cleanup efforts are underway in high-traffic areas, including right of #5 tees, behind #15 green, and near #16 tee boxes.
• New yellow par 3 tee markers have been installed, and standard markers have been ordered to ensure consistency across the course.
• The equipment storage shelter is now complete, providing our team with improved space for tools and maintenance gear.
• On the driving range, new netting and replacement mats have been ordered and will be installed as soon as they arrive.
• Drainage repairs on #14 fairway have taken longer than expected due to recent weather conditions. The good news is, by the time you read this, the work should be completed and the hole will be back to its full Par 5 playability Photos of this project can be found on the right
Turf & Agronomic Practices
Greens are being plugged as needed to promote healthy turf and smooth putting surfaces. Additionally, we are preparing for the second preemergent herbicide application, which will take place between late April and early May.
Spring weather has been unpredictable, with fluctuating temperatures, wind, and rainfall. Our team continues to monitor turf conditions closely and is adjusting maintenance practices accordingly. We will also begin staff training this month to ensure everyone is well-prepared for the demands of the upcoming peak season.
We appreciate your continued support and look forward to seeing you out on the course or around campus as we head into a promising spring.
