MANAGER'S MESSAGE

It’s July! Time seems to be passing like a race car in high gear! But not to worry, as there is still plenty of summer remaining and many more opportunities to enjoy the outdoor activities at the Club.

is one that often does not get the all the credit due, as there are many projects that take place behind the scenes or that required many hours of planning to ensure success and satisfaction.

The Entertainment Committee, co-chaired by Jackie Pettinelli and Daria Lowe, which falls under the umbrella of the Food & Beverage Committee, is busy planning many traditional events, as well as, coming up with new events for your enjoyment. I am really excited about a new event to take place on Labor Day Weekend- The Cardboard Boat Race! This event will require some planning on your part, should you be up to the challenge. Members and their families (and/or guests) will be challenged to build a ‘Boat’ out of mainly cardboard and a minimal list of other materials, which must carry a crew of two people and the boat that makes it the furthest the fastest on the course, wins. It is sure to be a lot of fun and a lot of good-natured competition. PS- We shared this idea with the staff and they got excited - there will be a few entries by the departments of the club, but all will follow the same parameters for their vessels. To the victor goes the spoils!

Some of the major projects are more obvious, but there are many that often are minor; however, it's the little things that make the difference. For example, the House Committee led the replacement of many air-conditioning vents in the Skipjack, which improved circulation and comfort. Further, the minor change of repainting the wall by the Community Table in the Skipjack made the transition from the Skipjack to 1955 seamless. There are too many projects to list, but I wanted to highlight that the committee is currently working on a refresh of the Commodores Room and collecting bids for replacing the termite-damaged walls at Hollands Hole.

This is also the time of year when we have out-oftown family and guests visiting. We encourage you to bring your friends and family to the club when you can, and the guest policy is in the Club Policies section of the website if you need a refresher on the guidelines.

I can tell you that the House Committee, along with the rest of the committees are committed and always thinking of ways to make the Club the best it can be!

Employee of the Month: Dana Riffle A few months ago, we announced the promotion of Dana Riffle to Banquet Manager. We can attest today that Dana has embraced this role with care for members, passion for service and dedication that has not gone unnoticed.

When looking at the Employee of the Month nominations, we look for exemplary service not just as it relates to job tasks and member service, but commitment and care for fellow team members. Dana embodies just that - if you see her around, be sure to thank her for her service!

COMMODORES CORNER JULY 2022

A CRUISING BOAT IS NOT REQUIRED TO GO CRUISING

At first thought, you may not agree but think about your travels around the country by car. Did you have a trailer or RV? The answer will be no for most respondents. Most of us have simply dined out and reserved lodging.

So why not travel in a sports boat where the only requirement is the proper size for the expected sea and weather conditions. Yes, the lower Chesapeake can be challenging at times, but as a rule, summer sea conditions are fairly docile. If you have a power boat, speed is your friend, and if you pick your weather window, your exposure on the Bay is short for reasonable destinations.

There's even a restaurant at the dock. If you go, be sure to walk through some of the neighborhoods.

It is a lovely small, walkable Bay town.

If you are traveling by sail, your trip will take longer, but again destinations such as Onancock are an easy day trip with plenty of time to explore the town.One suggestion, whether traveling by sail or power, is to leave early for your destination.

If your explorations are taking you north on the Bay and into Maryland, one area that requires A good example would be a trip to Onancock on the extra caution is crossing the mouth of the Eastern Shore. Membership Matters

I often get inquiries from non-golfers as to why the men's member guest golf tournament is such a big deal. Well, anyone that knows me has likely picked up that I am ALL about club traditions and member experience and this tournament happens to play a big part in continuing them.

This is not to discount the memories made during summer camp, on the water while cruising, on the tennis courts, or around the clubhouse. I want to focus on this event, in particular, because of two stories from this year.

These stories embody everything clubs stand for and how important what we do today is to the continuation of club life for years to come.

The second stories is nearer to my heart, as when I moved to the Northern Neck one of the first people I met was Billy Hudson. Billy and his son, Josh, have played in member guest for the last several years and, despite a few hurdles, Billy committed to continuing this tradition no matter what. A tradition that started with he and his father playing together years ago.

One morning, a member shared that he invited his son to play in the tournament - his son, who has never golfed before, shared he couldn't because he didn't have the required handicap.

The son decided a few weeks later, that playing with dad would be special and he would go and give golf a try for the 10 times it takes to acquire this handicap. And so, he got a few friends together, headed out to a local course and now has a regular Tuesday group playing! Our ICYCC member guest reach is now making its mark in Colorodo. And, this committed son has memories with his dad that can't be replaced.

In a nutshell, if anyone were to ask what's so special about joining a country club - take these two stories with you. Remember what we are building for generations to come and do not miss an opportunity to make your own memories.

This year, the return of member guest to its Father's Day weekend yielded a field of over half father/son teams. Just look below and you will see what is so special about this event and you do not need to be a golfer to get goosebumps!

The event was once again a great success thanks in part to a great field, wonderful staff, and plenty of outstanding volunteers and sponsors. Pete Stephens and his staff did a fantastic job of getting the golf course ready and producing an incredibly tough, but fair course. Congratulations to Mac Conway and Tom Rogers, your 2022 Champions. I hope you have signed up for the President’s Cup on July 9th, we are looking forward to a fun and competitive event. With the 2022 golf season off to a fun start, please keep an eye on the club calendar for upcoming golf tournament/golf clinic dates and signups!

Let’s Make It Count!

Indian Creek has added a Kiosk for the outdoor tennis courts, located at the Tennis Pavilion. Please take the time to sign in when using the outdoor courts, as well as, the Indoor Courts. The indoor facility has upgraded its Kiosk too. Both kiosks are new and should be up and running 24/7.

The login process is: 1. Click Login 2. Click on the numeric button (123) 3. Enter your member number 4. Hit the "Save" button 5. Check to see if your name or your spouse’s name is highlighted 6. Click on your name, if needed 7. Click "OK" The sign-ins are so important for tracking purposes. We have several projects in the works, and just showing the overall usage of the facilities proves that we should go forward with our expansions and projects. Failure to sign in only hurts the chances of future expansions.

We have spent numerous hours counting the logins and comparing them to reservations where members failed to log in. This time could be used in so many ways, but we want to give our committees the most accurate numbers to enhance your club experience.

If everyone takes the time to log in/sign in, we will have good data and can make a difference with project planning!
