Spring Hello

The spring season, particularly around the club campus, brings with it an energy and momentum that is refreshing and it's showing in the smiles seen around the club each day.
Spring is also a great time of year to remind all members of the resources available to be sure we are all doing our part to keep "fun" a central part of daily club life.
We encourage all members to visit icycc.com and familiarize themselves with club rules, bylaws, dress code, and guest policies alike.
If you have family or friends visiting over the coming month, the dress code can be found on the public page of icycc > Explore ICYCC > Frequently Asked Questions. It's a great tool for visitors to use when getting ready to pack.
Spring is also a great time to share the club with family or friends that may be looking for a place to play golf, swing a racquet, grab a bite to eat, park their boat or just grab a drink with friends. If you are entertaining someone interested in membership, we treat your guest. Please simply put a note in the comments on your reservation, let Megan Stephens know ahead of time, or let a staff member know when you arrive.
Aaron started with us in August of 2022
He has a little over 10 years of hospitality experience and it truly shows!
He has been such a great asset to the team and has recently been promoted to Dining Room Manager which he is taking on with such enthusiasm
In his spare time, Aaron hangs out with his two children and wife.

THE CHAPMAN FAMILY - CRAIG, JENNIFER (CENTER) AND THEIR BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN: ANNA-CATHERINE, CARTER, BECKHAM AND PIERSON
The spring equinox is crosses the celestial equator. Days will get longer, temperatures will rise, flowers will bloom, and we will all begin to spend more time outdoors! Yay spring. At Indian Creek, we will have burned our socks on Friday, March 17th marking our launch of spring. So its time to pull the paddleboards and kayaks out from the garage, launch our center consoles and commission our big boats. As we do, remember to give time to spring maintenance of each of these vessels so we can spend a safe season on the water.
The Yacht Club held a terrific session with Bubba Wilkins, learning all we need to do in order to properly maintain our outboard engines. Now is the time to follow his advice regarding checking spark plugs, changing engine oil and gear case oil, replacing filters and checking and replacing your zincs, if needed. Commissioning the big boats is a bit more complicated depending on your systems. But getting the water and AC systems flushed and running, changing the oil, Racor filters, oil, and primary fuel filters, impellers and zincs, among the dozens of other big and small matters to be addressed, should all be done before you “shake down” the vessel at the Shakedown Cruise on May 19th.
And all of this is in preparation for a wonderful Yacht Club season filled with numerous events both on and off the water. Please go to the Club website and filter the calendar for Yacht Club events. When you do this, you will see all Yacht Club events and all other events for which you have signed up. I will note a few upcoming events you should have on your calendar:
April 22nd – Maritime Road Rally. This is a new event where we will seek out various maritime venues of the Northern Neck by following a preset guide of clues.
April 29th – Spring Fling, our first major dinner/dance of the year.
May 19th – Flag Raising and Shakedown Cruise.
Two other events I’d also like to highlight. First, the always popular Progressive Dinner will be held on Antipoison Creek this year with the Franks, Upshurs, and Gary Greenwood and Sharon Daley hosting the event. Please note that the original date of July 8 has been moved to July 23rd. Look out for registration as this event always fills up quickly. And finally, as noted in my last writeup, the Land Cruise will be a spectacular bus cruise to New York’s Finger Lakes. This should be a wonderful and colorful event with limited capacity so look out for the registration notice.
Enjoy the launch of Spring and we’ll see you on the water!
Spring brings with it several exciting changes to the restaurant - one is a change in menu offerings which takes advantage of more seasonal items. We will now be offering a lunch and dinner menu - giving more of a variety of dishes as you dine. We hope this encourages you to dine early, late and often!
The other change that we are excited about is the promotion of one of members' favorite servers, Aaron Campbell, to dining room manager. He has shown tremendous growth and initiative to make ICYCC a place members are proud to both belong and share with family and friends As you see Aaron on the floor, please be sure to congratulate him on his new role One of the greatest things about his promotion is the enthusiasm of his peers - he will do a great job!
On another seasonal note, we are making plans for the upcoming outdoor dining season and we hope that you consider take out and dining more picnic-style on the Willow Oaks Terrace as we await its May opening. There have been some wonderful weather days and take out is a great way to enjoy them until May.
The return of Trivia night was celebrated by over 60 members. Thank you to all who participated!
Congratulations to our winners ( Bottom Left, Left to Right) - Jeremiah Glassman, Russ Smith, Melissa Glassman, Eileen Smith, Stacey Brent, Kim (Guest of Carroll), Carroll Webb and Ty Brent
Second place rights went to: Al Ross, Kathleen Conroy (and guest), Susan and Bob Wayland, Zoe Ingall and Richard LeBaron.

Course Conditions and Cart Ruling - Now available on both the app and website. In the app, simply click the menu button in the bottom right hand corner and course conditions are found below tee times. On the website, log in and visit golf > course conditions.
The website houses several important documents. March is a great time of year for us all to do a "refresher" of things going on around the club, as well as, review some of the rules and bylaws that keep the club an enjoyable place to work and play. If you are an avid user of the mobile app, please still visit the website every now and then to see some more "housekeeping" type of items that may "bog down" your mobile experience, but are available in full at icycc.com - just log in using your web browser on your tablet or desktop.

Having proper hip movement is absolutely crucial to hitting the ball consistently, as your hip movement impacts on – positively or negatively – many other parts of the swing.
A good hip rotation can help you coil up power like a spring which you unleash as you start your golf swing. Players such as Rory McIlroy, who may not be the biggest in size, is able to hit the ball extraordinary distances because he maximizes their hip – and therefore shoulder – turn.
With the aid of a hula hoop, which acts as a visual representation of the angle and the motion of the hips, I hope I can give you a better understanding of the ideal movement of your hips in order to improve consistency and power.
While your hips need to turn level to the ground on the backswing, notice how, when the downswing starts, the legs drive weight towards the target and drive the hula hoop angle upwards on the left side. As the left side ‘climbs’, the right side moves under it and this encourages the arms to swing freely and unhindered into the impact area on the correct shallow path.
Through impact, the hoop keeps turning up and around to the left, which clears the left side of the body out of the way so that the right side can turn on the power and fire towards the target unhindered. In the finish you will see that the right arm swings high over the left shoulder, as it should be in the actual golf swing.
Ideally, in the backswing, your hips should turn fairly level with the ground You can see how the hula hoop indicates this When this happens correctly, it allows your weight to coil on to the right side, building up and storing power It also ensures your shoulders are able to turn freely, which is essential, not only for building up power but also to help you to swing the club on the correct arc around the body The result is a long, fluid and controllable swing
A common mistake among amateur golfers is that they slide their hips away from the target rather than rotate them. In this sequence, you can see how, instead of the hoop turning level to the ground, it has simply slid to the right. As a result of this, the shoulders have barely turned and they end up in a position at the top of the backswing that is very difficult to recover from. From this position, with a high right side, players will start the downswing with the right side too high, which leads to a steep swing and a chopping motion into the ball. I n many cases the result will be a pulled shot or a big slice.
See you on the course!
As you read this, the well installation is almost complete, with Geogologist hitting the right amount of water at approximately 600 feet. Soils were tested every 10 feet and it's been intersteing to see the different texture of soil at each level We are tapping into the Potomac water basin, which spans Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia and parts of the DC area.
With the start of the golf season upon us, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind golfers of the care for the course that comes with playing golf. There's a short video on the right that talks about the right way and wrong way to repair your ball mark. Note, the wrong way either leaves you with a bare spot on the green or a labor-intensive maintenance practice to get the green looking good again.
If you see me out on the course and you'd like to talk turf, flag me down or call me at 804 436 4059
