MANAGER’S MESSAGE

Employee of the Month

By Brian Darlak, GM, CCM

I want to echo the message from Club President Barbara Fentress about the great things that are taking place or have taken place recently at the Club! We welcome Andrew Geesey as our Head Golf Professional; we have finalized the purchase of the lots on the West side of Fairway Drive; the Pavilion project will be breaking ground soon; we had a great turn out for the Kickin’ it at the Creek event earlier in October; so many great things!! There are many great things on the horizon too! In the month of November, all Open Pickleball and Spec Tennis times are available to ALL Members at no cost. Both are played on the same court, whereas Pickleball will challenge your reflexes as the ball moves at a quicker pace, Spec Tennis provides much of the same challenges as Tennis, just played on a smaller court. Please do come out to learn more about two of the fasting growing sports. There are many traditional Club Events coming up around the corner, starting with the Commodores Ball in early November, the Annual Shareholders meeting on November 14th, then followed by Thanksgiving and before we know we will be decking the hall with holiday cheer! I hope you enjoy some of the traditional Club favorites, and perhaps find some events to begin you own family’s traditions. As we get ready for the season of giving, I want to highlight that there are many events in the community in which the Club participates in some way, from providing auction items to participating in the event. As you see the Club’s participation in these events, I hope you are warmed with a sense of pride by the community engagement of the Club. From the staff perspective, we find these events and activities extra special as we take advantage of the opportunity to showcase the many great attributes and community of Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club.

ALYSSA HASSON Alyssa started working at ICYCC as one of the summer counselors a couple of years ago and has been all in since ever since. She is currently a full time server and during her time at the club she has grown great connections with the members and staff and proves every day what a great asset she is to the club. When not at the club she lives to travel, go to concerts and shop.

As always, thank you for your continued support of your Club! Reminder to All Shareholders: Please return your proxy to the Club Office or submit it online by November 9, even if you plan to attend the meeting. This will allow us to ensure a quorum for the meeting on November 14th.

For those that have come to know Alyssas sense of humor, she requested her photo be a vacation shot gazing out at the fake beach scene in one of the offices

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS by Megan Stephens Membership Director

THANKS AND GIVING : TWO THINGS THAT MAKE THE HOSPITALITY WORLD GO-ROUND Since the pandemic, there have been countless discussions in the hospitality world about labor and what the future holds. Since fewer people are exploring a career in the hospitality field, it means that retaining and recruiting staff continues to be a top priority. Our focus is currently equally on employee culture as it is on club (member) culture. The ICYCC membership committee is proud to share that those efforts are yielding great results. Engagement and employee participation are up and programming and development opportunities have been made readily available not only to enhance member service but to empower and invest more in each other. I want to thank membership committee member Ken Brammer for assisting me in taking the lead in executing these developmental opportunities, keeping us an employer of choice in the Northern Neck. Members play a large role in the employee culture. I’m now circling back to my “thanks and the giving” headline - Often a smile, a “thank you” or an inquiry into how someone’s day is going is all it takes to make someone feel connected and a part of something great. Our staff is committed to helping facilitate this connection with you and we hope you will reciprocate - our club community is better together.

WELCOME! William & Nancy Atwill

TURF

By Pete Stephens As autumn sets in and winter approaches, maintaining healthy turf is just as important now

With the change in seasons, you may experience longer drying times after rain

What does getting the turf ready for fall and winter look like? It involves many actions related to proper nutrition, which promote a healthy root system and stacks up the carbohydrates for

We look forward to seeing you all on the course and around the club campus. Have a Great November!

Trees have been a hot topic lately. The rapidly deteriorating maple tree that was in front of the Warmest Regards clubhouse was removed in early October. Some Peter S. Stephens, CGCS of the equipment used for removal damaged the cart path in front of the Pro Shop and this has since been repaired. I would like to thank member Drew Ransone and Chesapeake Tree Service for both the tree removal and making the necessary repairs to the cart path in a timely manner. You will notice new plantings throughout the campus - from new trees, shrubs and flowers planted at the clubhouse to replacement trees on #15 and #16 along with cedar trees on club drive.
