INDIANA FFA FOUNDATION BOARD CHAIR A Message from Matthew Likens 2020 has been quite the year for our country and it hasn’t gone without making it quite the year for the Indiana FFA Foundation as well. I would like to begin by thanking everyone who has navigated the challenges personally and professionally that have hit each of us and yet still continued to support the foundation. We have been blessed with individuals, local chapters, and organizations all continuing to give of time and financial resources above what we could have imagined. The Indiana FFA Foundation 2019-2020 Fiscal Year Fundraising was $1,149,083.41 this year, which is up $106,220.51. We received $49,978.94 from chapter giving. We also have a Foundation Rainy Day Fund of $310,919.84, as well as the Indiana FFA Leadership Center’s Rainy Day Fund of $73,539.48. With the increased giving this year, the foundation was able to continue to provide the important resources that are necessary to develop agriculture leaders. All organizations have adapted to new platforms to stay engaged and connected in this ongoing pandemic and the FFA Foundation isn’t any different. We will continue to be proactive in our programs and industry engagement as we navigate changes today and in the future. This is not all that different for us as we have continued to find new relationships and develop new programs in our changing membership in pursuit of delivering on our motto: Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. I would once again like to extend my thanks to all who have given this year, and encourage your continued support for the most effective leadership development organization in Indiana! Sincerely, Matthew Likens

2019-2020 INDIANA FFA STATE PRESIDENT A Message from Dillon Muhlenkamp In today's ever-changing lifestyle of virtual events and advancement of technology, the 20192020 State Officer team prided ourselves on going back to some of the old traditions of Indiana FFA. One main tradition we revisited was hosting the Foundations in Reaching Excellence (FIRE) Conference in the conference center (formerly known as the education building) at the FFA Leadership Center. This idea was brought up when we were reminiscing old times with association director Rob Hays. He explained that his State Officer team hosted their conferences in that area of the facility. This gave students a change of scenery from the sessions to their meals and other events. When we finally decided to run with the idea, we suddenly realized there was a lot of work to do. We had to build new backdrops to fit the lower ceilings, gather all of the chairs on the center grounds to have enough for the dining room and the conference center, and set up two different sound systems. After all of this, the conference went off without a hitch. We loved this “different” conference and all of the great memories the team gained from it. Now as we moved forward in the year we were looking forward to having that traditional State Convention in Elliott Hall of Music at Purdue University. However, different was going to be used in an aspect that we were not initially prepared for.
6
Different in most of our minds, for some reason, carries a negative connotation. When our team heard that our State Convention was going to be different, we immediately went to those negative connotations. • No talking to members on our walk from Stewart to Elliott. • No last minute hugs from family members before we went on stage. • No members and supporters filling the seats of Elliott . But what we did not think of was the positive connotation with the word different. • Retiring addresses all pre-recorded and filmed in special spots across the state. • Deep conversations and pep talks from State Staff. • The ability to deliver the message of FFA to every single Indiana FFA member. Because so many of our beloved traditional events have been canceled this past year, lets focus on how these events have become different and how we are impacting a much larger group of people with virtual events. I challenge you to find what is different around you and how that is a positive change.
Be Different, Dillon Muhlenkamp 2019-2020 State President

FOUNDATION OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD Doug Goff
The 2020 Indiana FFA Outstanding Service Award recipient is an individual who has truly left an everlasting impact, Mr. Doug Goff. His roots in agriculture started while he was raised on a beef ranch in Missouri, and served his local FFA chapter as President. He dedicates his personal growth and career success to his time in FFA, and has worked to then dedicate his efforts to return the impact for the Indiana FFA Association. Mr. Goff has played a crucial role in developing the sponsorship of Helena Agri-Enterprises LLC for the past decade from his passion for agriculture and National FFA. In his role as North Central Division Manager for Helena Agri-Enterprises, they have been a gracious donor to support member opportunities by sponsoring Seeking Opportunities Achieving Results Conference, as well as the Awards Luncheon and Foundation Session for State Convention. Mr. Goff’s generosity and thoughtfulness has not only provided opportunities for Indiana FFA members, but also rejuvenated the Indiana FFA Leadership Center. When once complimented on the photo canvases in his Helena Office during a State Officer Business and Industry visit, he graciously surprised the Foundation by providing a large display of photo canvases that represent the Leadership Center’s true beauty. Mr. Goff retired from Helena Agri-Enterprises in December 2019 and has started his own consulting firm for agricultural business leadership to continue his impact in the industry. It is because of his exemplification of “Living to Serve” for Indiana FFA and belief in the values and future of Agriculture that we are honored to present Mr. Doug Goff the Outstanding Service Award.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT Arby’s Foundation With the fall of 2019 came a new sponsorship to the Indiana FFA Foundation. Heartland Beef Incorporated, an Arby’s franchisee, chose to nominate the Indiana FFA Foundation for an Arby’s Foundation grant. Indiana FFA was selected to receive $63,100.00! This grant was then distributed to 55+ individual chapters impacting over 2000 members. This grant could be used for anything that would directly impact local FFA members. Some of the chapters used this grant money for conference registration, bus fees, state convention registration, leadership and career development event fees and jackets, just to name a few. We asked a few recipients "What was the effect of Arby's Foundation Grant for your chapter/ students?" Here are their responses: “Because of the Arby's Foundation Grant, our FFA Chapter was easily able to purchase FFA jackets for students who could not afford to buy one on their own, without question. It is so nice to have that option for students who want to be involved but are worried about cost. We also were able to cover the cost of district, state, and national dues with this grant. We want our students to be as involved as they can be without having to question whether or not they have enough money to participate. Thank you Arby's for offering unlimited opportunities for our members!” -Brittany Need, Northwestern High School FFA Advisor “Funds received from the Arby's Foundation Grant came just at the right time for the Sullivan FFA Chapter. Our ability to fundraise during the spring of 2020 was greatly limited due to the pandemic, and these funds allowed our students the ability to participate in the virtual Indiana FFA Convention. Furthermore, these funds were used to purchase awards for our students that were given during our postponed annual awards banquet. Our 180+ members are extremely active in our community and in competitions, and giving them the recognition they deserve was priceless.” -Kevin Cross, Sullivan High School FFA Advisor The Arby’s Foundation and Heartland Beef, Inc. have made a great impact on local members during a very challenging time as many chapters were unable to fundraise due to Covid19. Thank you Arby’s Foundation, for offering these dollars to support our local FFA programs. 24

2019-2020 EVENTS Indiana FFA Country Market Our 20th annual fundraising event was held in the Indiana FFA Pavilion at the Indiana State Fair. Over 50 vendors with Indiana based agricultural products were available for all fair attendees to purchase in the market. This is a great place for individuals and companies to test market their line of products, whether it be hand-made items or companies with delicious fudge and cookies, the Country Market is a place to launch new products. 2019-2020 EVENTS #Ag2Asphalt Returns to the Indiana FFA Leadership Center September at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center had the aroma of newly laid asphalt pavement near the Fellowship Center and the walkways near the cabins, bridge and the drive from the multipurpose building. Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana membership was around every corner teaching our young people about their industry that has so many ties to agriculture in ways unimaginable, additionally giving them a great career option to think about as they prepare for their future. APAI and 100 volunteers from their membership and over 100 agriculture education students and teachers enjoyed the day at the FFA Center to learn about the asphalt’s industry and the great need of young professionals to enter their field of business as employees. Representatives from universities where APAI have scholarship programs were available to meet with students to promote civil engineering, construction engineering management, and construction management technology programs, etc. in Indiana. This is the second time FFA hosted the career day, #Ag2Asphalt, and it was available to Indiana FFA members and agriculture education students statewide. The volunteer members from APAI presented on career panels, and answering student questions about career paths available with member firms. Students enjoyed simulators, panel discussion and demonstrations. The paving work was performed by a member firm of APAI and funds were raised from APAI members to cover the expenses.
Teacher Training Indiana Corn Marketing Council sponsored 25 agriculture teachers, of all ages, to participate in the Indiana Agriculture Educator Training at Fair Oaks in northern Indiana. Our teachers were given the opportunity to gather the evening before to socialize and talk with peers about their classroom activities. The following day they experienced the Pig, Dairy and Crop Adventures, as well as listened to one of the owners of Fair Oaks, Sue McCloskey, she shared with teachers the challenges and joys of owning and operating Fair Oaks as well as the many life lessons that come from working with the public. Our teachers were able to take what they learned at Fair Oaks and apply it to their classroom experiences.

2019-2020 EVENTS Page Day INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 25, 2020) ISDA News Release by Regan Holtsclaw— The Indiana FFA Association invited 81 members to be pages for the General Assembly in celebration of National FFA Week. This opportunity allowed students to meet with elected officials and see firsthand how the legislative process operates. “It was wonderful to see so many blue jackets in the statehouse today,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. “These students were directly involved in the action of the day, were able to speak to the General Assembly and received a better understanding of the legislative branch of our government.” While paging, FFA members spoke with their representatives and senators, assisted aides and interns and attended session. Additionally, they received a tour of the historic Indiana Statehouse and a tour of Governor Holcomb’s office. “The FFA Organization provides a multitude of ways for students to be involved in what they are passionate about and today’s event at the Statehouse is a perfect example,” said Sam Miller, Assistant Director of the Indiana FFA Association. “Each year we look forward to this event to help show our members how the legislative process works and encourage them to exercise their right to vote when the time comes.” The Indiana FFA Association organizes an opportunity for FFA members to page at the Statehouse each year to highlight National FFA Week and the organization. National FFA Week runs until February 29, 2020, and is the perfect opportunity for students to get out into their schools and communities and promote the FFA Organization and the role this student based organization plays in the lives of the members.
Page Day was sponsored by Indiana Electric Cooperatives.
