FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to the 20th edition of Lookbox Annual. This is a big milestone for us, and one that’s close to my heart. Reaching two decades of design storytelling feels a little surreal – and incredibly exciting at the same time.
Looking back at the homes we’ve featured over the years, I can’t help but notice how the interior design scene has grown in both creativity and purpose. Lately, one big shift stands out: the way homes are being designed to flex and flow with life. Whether it’s a small apartment or a spacious landed home, there’s a clear move toward spaces that adapt, last, and feel deeply personal.
Interior designers are pushing boundaries like never before. This spirit of innovation is reflected in The Collection (from p. 34), where we profile 31 firms – ranging from seasoned veterans to emerging studios making their mark – and highlight their standout projects, from HDB flats and condos to beautiful landed residences. To help you navigate the diversity, we’ve grouped the firms into five distinct themes: Crafters of Bespoke, Space Artisans, The Veterans, The Bold Creatives, and New Wave Studios.
Alongside these inspiring interiors, you’ll find our refreshed product guide, which has always been central to Lookbox Annual’s holistic approach to the home. This year, we’re introducing a new Editor’s Pick (from p. 10) – a curated selection that, in our view, represents the best in design today. From the latest innovations to timeless icons, these are the pieces shaping the future of home living, thoughtfully grouped into essential categories – Furniture, Fixtures and Fittings, Materials, Kitchen, Bathroom, and Lighting – so you can find inspiration for every space.
It’s certainly been a joy putting this issue together, and we hope it offers everything you need for your renovation journey. For more design inspiration, visit us at www.lookboxliving.com.sg.

Tile
it your way
Tiles are a common surface choice, but custom designs can elevate them beyond the ordinary. In this project, L Architects hand-sketched a flagstone-inspired tile pattern and had it digitalised and precisely cut using a water jet machine. The result is a one-of-a-kind, organic flooring design that feels both natural and intentional. Crafted from large-format Laminam tiles, this approach shows how innovative techniques can transform standard materials into striking design statements.

Single versus Double Basin
When choosing a kitchen sink, consider not just material and design but also size and whether a single or double basin suits your needs.

Double-basin pros:
- Enables multitasking with separate areas for washing, rinsing, or drying - Good for keeping food prep separate from dirty dishes

INSPIRATIONAL SHOPPING
Hafary’s newest showroom isn’t just a place to shop for materials –it’s a space to explore, imagine, and get inspired.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
When it comes to shopping for materials like tiles, stone, wood, and vinyl flooring, seeing a sample online or in a catalogue is never quite the same as experiencing it in person. Their texture, weight, and interaction with light require a handson approach – something Hafary has long understood. Over four decades, the brand has established showrooms across Singapore, each enhancing customer engagement.
Now, Hafary has relocated its first showroom from Balestier to a new central space – Hafary House at 161 Lavender Street. Designed by award-winning studio FARM, this experiential showroom redefines how materials are displayed and explored.
A Bold, Tactile Showcase
From the moment visitors step inside, Hafary House challenges convention. A striking full-height mosaic wall, featuring sandblasted tile backs arranged over tile mesh, sets the tone for new sensorial experiences rooted in texture and form. FARM’s design philosophy highlights materials in their raw state, inspiring homeowners to see new creative possibilities.
Thematic Installations & Spatial Zones
True to its name, Hafary House is designed as a series of immersive spaces, sparking inspiration and encouraging self-exploration. Visitors can wander through living, dining, hall, kitchen, bathroom, terrace, patio, and outdoor areas, where materials are seamlessly integrated with curated furniture settings to offer real-life design ideas.
The showroom’s thematic zones, ranging from Art Deco to Japanordic, are updated regularly to stay ahead of trends. These evolving displays help homeowners visualise how materials at Hafary can transform their own spaces, making selection an intuitive and exciting process.
Dedicated Zones for Wood Culture & Sanitary Offerings
Beyond the main showroom, Hafary House features other specialised zones. The Wood Culture area showcases wood-textured tiles, vinyl flooring, and wall coverings, with innovative applications such as wood-plastic composite flooring used as vertical slanted fins, seamlessly guiding visitors through displays.
Meanwhile, the sanitary showcase not only features tiled settings that replicate real residential bathroom proportions but also displays Hafary’s in-house brand of sanitary ware and fittings, Klopfen.
With so many areas to explore, Hafary House turns the act of shopping for materials into a journey of discovery, offering exciting ideas at every turn.

LOFTY PENTHOUSE
With a striking mezzanine addition and the incorporation of modern classic elements, akiHAUS Design Studio creates a sophisticated sanctuary for a family of four.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
To new heights Lawrence Puah, Design Director of akiHAUS Design Studio, was entrusted with creating a spacious and functional home for a family of four while seamlessly integrating their modern classic style preferences. Capitalising on the penthouse’s double-volume ceilings, the designer introduced a mezzanine level. The staircase, crafted from steel and wood, subtly reflects the clients’ Italian and Southeast Asian heritage. Project type:
A refined outlook
The entire penthouse embraces a monochromatic palette, and wainscoting pays homage to the male homeowner’s European heritage while offering a sophisticated, contemporary interpretation of classical design. Subtle textures and sleek lines meet rich wood and marble finishes, elevating this home’s refined aesthetic.
Elevated serenity
Further in, the master bedroom exudes the same modern classic grandeur, thanks to its doublevolume ceiling. Bathed in natural daylight streaming in through fullheight windows, the room’s high ceiling is further accentuated by an elegant black glass headboard.
Seeing double
The double-height glass and timber screens unify the design. When the recessed lights within the display shelves are lit and the panels slide close, the feature resembles a stunning lantern. Opening to a spacious balcony, the penthouse seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor living, giving more room to relax and entertain.
Monochromatic tones, warm wood finishes, and elegant furnishings come together to give this home an air of timeless sophistication.

NEW LIFE
akiHAUS Design Studio redesigns a 50-year-old semi-detached house in Seletar Hills, seamlessly blending modern living solutions with the needs of a multi-generational family while preserving its vintage charm.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
Old meets new
Instead of opting for a complete rebuild, Lawrence Puah, Design Director of akiHAUS Design Studio, adopted an adaptive reuse approach to revitalise this aging semi-detached house for a multi-generational family. Besides brightening the interiors and reconfiguring the layout to meet the family’s needs, he preserved its vintage charm, seamlessly integrating it into the home’s refreshed and distinctive character.
Open living
The ground floor’s original layout isolated the kitchen and grandparents’ bedroom from the dining room, restricting airflow and light distribution. Lawrence relocated the bedroom to the rear, creating a larger, brighter kitchen. Glass sliding doors now connect the dining area and kitchen, creating a seamless transition between spaces while enabling the grandmother, an avid cook, to enclose the kitchen for heavy cooking.
Let light in
In the double-volume living room, louvres have been replaced with fixed glass panels that bring in abundant daylight. To increase the ceiling height at the dining area, Lawrence removed the timber ceiling panels and, in the process, discovered an interesting pattern of beams. Drawing inspiration from the curved profile of the mezzanine walls above the living area, he rounded the edges of the beams to create a coherent architectural language.
Vertical transition
The staircase, featuring exposed reinforced concrete and timber treads, was retained to match the home’s architectural language. New mild steel handrails with glass infill enhance its lightness and transparency, highlighting the craftsmanship of the cantilevered design. The staircase seamlessly connects to the mezzanine study, reinforcing the cohesive vintagemodern aesthetic.

AMANDA PANG Design Director
LEGACY REIMAGINED
AMP Design Co. restored this inter-terrace home as a stunning representation of timeless colonial elegance complete with a creatively transformed patio and loft.
TEXT DISA TAN
Project type: 2-storey interterrace house
Floor area: 2,500sqft
A new era
A couple in their 50s with two teenage daughters sought AMP Design Co.’s Design Director, Amanda Pang, to rejuvenate their newly bought resale inter-terrace house, which was in a cramped and outdated state. “The brief was for an adaptable family home that also reflected the female homeowner’s cheerful personality,” Amanda explains.
Thoughtful redesign
A colonial black-and-white theme was proposed, highlighted by vivid paintings and tiles that evoke a lively atmosphere. Significant modifications were made to enhance the living area’s layout. “We turned the outdoor balcony into an indoor bay window and foyer, creating an inviting entrance into the home,” says Amanda.
Picture-perfect kitchen
A rich layering of textures makes this kitchen a dreamy tropical oasis to cook and entertain. One wall features botanical-
motif tiles, beautifully paired with rattan bar stools and a peninsula counter with curved edges. The wood-inspired tiled flooring and ceiling beams give the space warmth.
Verdant vanity
Like the rest of the home, the powder room exudes a lush, tropical ambience with its vibrant botanical-themed wallpaper. The airy space features a standout green basin, complemented by dark wood finishes and chic gold trimmings all set against a charming view of the air well.
Let the sun in
An air well on the first storey presented a perfect opportunity for Amanda to transform this space into a multipurpose area for indoor gardening and basking under the sun. She adds: “A powder room has been introduced at the back, and the high pitched ceiling was maximised to build a loft area on the second level.”
Skyward loft
(Top left) Amanda tackled the limited space with creative flair by integrating a spiral staircase beside the second-storey study area. She shares: “By opening up the pitched roof, we created an additional reading loft. A spiral staircase was incorporated, and glass panels were used to bring in more light and enhance the sense of space in the study room.”
Grand entrance
(Top right) Stepping into the walkin wardrobe feels like entering a realm of elegance, accentuated by grand arched doors with fluted glass and brass handles. A seamless flow of dark wood finishes enhances both the flooring and vanity table, adding warmth and sophistication. Concealed within the wardrobe doors is the entrance to the master bathroom which adds an element of surprise.
Sense of openness
Originally confined by a low ceiling, the once-cramped master bedroom was completely refreshed when Amanda removed the false ceiling to reveal its full height. She enhanced the newfound openness with cove lighting, further accentuating the room’s spacious dimensions.
PERCH TO THE EAST
Project type: 4-room HDB flat
Floor area: 900sqft
AMP Design Co. creates a tranquil retreat for a young couple’s first home, seamlessly blending the hobbies of birding, tea appreciation, and calligraphy with sustainable living.
TEXT DISA TAN
Nesting instinct
During a flat viewing, a rare blue bird perched outside captivated a newlywed couple in finance, compelling them to choose it as their first home. Enthusiasts of birding, Chinese calligraphy, and tea appreciation, they enlisted Design Director Amanda Pang from AMP Design Co. to weave these passions into their home’s design.
Eco harmony
Amanda was inspired by the couple’s love for nature and culture, and decided to utilise recycled Nyatoh wood in the design. “It can replicate the look of natural timber strips, which is the home’s key aesthetic,” she shares. She also repurposed the existing kitchen cabinetry and stone countertops, effectively reducing costs and waste in a nod to sustainable living.
Collector’s delight
At the foyer, visitors are greeted by a circular fluted glass window that offers privacy to the living area while gently ushering them into an Eastern-inspired oasis. A fullheight shelf, designed to resemble a tree, cleverly hides the aircon piping and serves as an artistic display for calligraphy tools and decorative items.
Perched beauty
An eye-catching shelving unit, mimicking the whimsical stagger of tree branch perches, is seamlessly integrated into the master bedroom’s custom wardrobe. This unique design not only reflects the couple’s love for birding but also cleverly brings the tranquility of nature into their urban sanctuary.

ROOM FOR MORE
With clever space planning, AP Concept has designed a flexible open-concept flat that aligns with the homeowners’ passions and lifestyle needs.
Lofty ideals
Seeking a spacious flat while retaining the two bedrooms, the homeowners enlisted Project Director Joseph Poh of AP Concept for their renovation. Joseph and his team completely reimagined the resale flat for the family of three, creating a functional yet stylish environment tailored to their daily needs.
Complete
overhaul
Joseph’s approach was radical yet refined. He completely overhauled the floor plan, stripping the flat to its bare bones. “We demolished and reconfigured all the nonstructural walls, and employed carpentry to enhance each area,” Joseph explains. He also chose a minimalist colour scheme to visually enlarge the space.
Project type: 3-room HDB flat
Floor area: 721sqft
All-purpose divider Joseph designed a multifunctional wall that serves as a TV console while concealing the two bedrooms. This clever custombuilt feature allowed the retention of both bedrooms while expanding the master bedroom. “By removing the existing storeroom and integrating it with the bedroom, we were able to enlarge the master suite,” he explains.
Improved flow
(Left) The wife, who is passionate about cooking and entertaining, desired an open-concept kitchen. Joseph reconfigured the floor plan to merge the living, dining, and kitchen, improving the home’s seamless flow. The dining area now boasts an island counter connected to the dining table, allowing the wife to keep an eye on her child while cooking.
Private quarters
(Right) Seamlessly embedded within the custom-built wall are the doorways to the bedrooms. Both are flush with the wall and provide a discreet entryway, preserving the homeowners’ privacy without sacrificing space.
Chic upgrade
(Top) Joseph also expanded the master bathroom, extending it outwards to make it more spacious. Adorned with wall tiles in muted shades, the sophisticated colour scheme enhances the room’s hotel-like ambience, which was what the homeowners desired.
Precise planning
(Bottom) Space planning was challenging due to the flat’s petite size, prompting Joseph to have in-depth consultations with the homeowners to prioritise their needs. In the master bedroom, they wanted a king-sized bed and a larger wardrobe, and Joseph’s meticulous planning successfully optimised the space to meet these requirements.
Compact yet cleverly designed, this stylish home maximises space, comfort, and family functionality.

ELEVATED SANCTUARY
To meet the evolving needs of a family of four, Artistroom has turned this Leighwoods condo into an elegant and highly functional urban retreat. TEXT DISA TAN
Family growth
Faced with a sprawling 2,300-square-foot apartment layout, Artistroom reimagined each space to better suit the priorities of its residents. As parents of two sons and frequent remote workers, the clients wanted a home that could evolve with their needs. With the children growing more independent, the family desired a home that balanced privacy, functionality for work, and spaces for entertaining.
Big on entertaining
To create a more spacious communal zone, the designers merged an adjoining balcony with the dining area, enlarging the layout to maximise usable space. The open-plan configuration now accommodates larger gatherings and enables the homeowners to interact with guests easily. This expansion also enhanced the adjacent common bedroom, providing it with additional space and improved storage solutions.
Refined
purpose
(Bottom left) Fitted with premium bathroom fittings in stunning metallic finishes from Meir, the master bathroom embodies both elegance and ease. It blends understated luxury with a purpose-driven design that serves the couple well.
Suite
dreams
(Bottom right) The master suite has also been enlarged and can now properly support the couple’s work-from-home requirements with an integrated study nook. It is separated from the sleeping area by a full-height divider that minimises distractions on both sides.
Like a diamond
To enhance the kitchen’s functionality and flow, the designers opted for a diamondarched shape at both ends of the island instead of a conventional rectangular counter. This unique design naturally guides movement around the kitchen, ensuring the island, positioned along the walkway to the bedrooms, seamlessly integrates into the spatial flow without causing obstructions.
Project type:
4-room HDB flat
Floor area: 950sqft
A HOBBYIST’S HAVEN
More than just a comfortable home, this HDB flat designed by Artistroom thoughtfully incorporates dedicated spaces for the homeowners’ hobbies, reflecting their passions and lifestyle.
Colour cohesion
The terracotta-inspired colour palette is a standout feature that makes the home feel warm and inviting. The designers from Artistroom used it extensively for the kitchen surfaces, carefully curating terracotta tones for the countertops, backsplash, and cabinets. Even the customised metal doors are powder-coated in a perfectly matching shade.
Passion projects
With diverse interests such as entertaining and nurturing fish and plants, the homeowners needed a spacious environment to accommodate their passions. Additionally, as a married couple with a baby and flexible workfrom-home schedules, they required ample storage and well-zoned spaces to seamlessly balance their personal and professional lives.
Freedom to move
Recognising that an open-plan communal area would best suit the homeowners’ love for hosting large gatherings, the designers removed several walls to reconfigure the kitchen, master bedroom, and common bedroom. This redesign introduced a more spacious, open-concept kitchen that seamlessly connects to the living and dining areas, creating a cohesive and welcoming layout.
Slow down
(Left) Featuring soft and neutral tones, the master bedroom’s minimalist colour palette creates a serene and calming atmosphere. The simple aesthetic enhances the sense of space and lightness, providing a refreshing retreat. This thoughtful design allows the homeowners to maintain a tranquil space for rest, distinctly separate from the dynamic and busy communal areas of their versatile home.
Productivity at home
(Right) To address the homeowners’ need for a private workspace for meetings, the designers created a dedicated home office. Metal-framed glass sliding doors enclose the room, effectively minimising disturbances from the communal zones while maintaining an open and airy feel. The transparent glass allows natural light to enter, enhancing the room’s brightness and creating a sense of spaciousness.
ASIALAND ID
ESTABLISHED: 2009
OUR STORY:
Our firm was founded by Managing Partner Norman Lim while building his dream villa. He noticed that while many interiors could look beautiful, they didn’t always truly reflect how people live. Determined to bridge this gap, he founded Asialand ID to design spaces where style and functionality come together seamlessly.

THINGS THAT FUEL OUR CREATIVITY:
We’re always excited to learn from each project, especially when clients challenge us to think outside the box. For example, one homeowner asked for a jungle-inspired home, which led to a lush living room with earthy tones and brass accents.

GREEN TRANSFORMATION
Focusing on eco-friendliness, Asialand ID designed this semi-detached home in Serangoon Gardens to be a tranquil, eco-conscious haven with an open and inviting ambience.
Serene waters
The design fosters a sustainable, calming atmosphere with a pool, lots of greenery, and eco-friendly materials. Despite unpredictable weather during construction, Norman Lim, Managing Partner of Asialand ID stayed true to the vision. “We made the pool a central feature to enhance the home’s seamless indoor-outdoor connection,” he explains.
Sustainable family haven
This net-zero energy residence features solar panels for renewable energy and has abundant greenery. Norman says: “The homeowner, a well-travelled entrepreneur, wanted a home that deeply connected with nature and that reflected both sustainability and modern living for his wife and two children.”
Island elegance
More seating for dining and entertaining can be found in the dry kitchen, which features a large island counter in luxurious marble. With appliances neatly hidden
within full-height cabinetry in a sleek lacquer finish, the space maintains a seamless look. It also elevates the space to fulfil the homeowners’ modern lifestyle needs.
Poolside entertaining
Overlooking the pool, the dining area showcases a large rectangular table that comfortably seats ten. The generous size makes it ideal for family meals or hosting guests while the beautiful light fixture adds sophistication to the space.
Breezy dining
Seamlessly extending into a landscaped garden, this open-plan dining area welcomes abundant natural light and ventilation. Nature-inspired design elements in the flooring and ceiling further enhance the airy atmosphere, creating an idyllic setting for every dining experience.
Asialand ID has rebuilt the former single-storey intermediate terrace house as a luxurious two-storey semi-detached residence with a mezzanine and attic.
Bespoke opulence
On the mezzanine level, a cosy living room serves as the family’s entertainment hub. Monolithic marble slabs serve as striking accent tables, complementing the plush sofas. These furniture pieces are from ShApe, a brand introduced by Asialand ID that offers exquisite Italian modular designs.
Dine and unwind
Adjacent to the living area, the patio features an outdoor dining space centred around a suar wood table paired with stylish outdoor chairs. A timber ceiling, lush greenery, and a statement bonsai further enrich the serene ambience, creating an inviting retreat for relaxed alfresco gatherings.
Attic retreat
The master bedroom, nestled in the attic, is designed for ultimate relaxation. A black leather bedframe sits against a textured feature wall with stripe details, adding depth and character. Plush furniture pieces from ShApe, including for the stylish lounge area, amp up the room’s sophistication.
Marble indulgence
With marble-patterned wall tiles, Norman has transformed the master bathroom into a serene spa-like retreat. A spacious double vanity and a luxurious jacuzzi provide the perfect setting for relaxation. Large windows bathe the space in natural light while offering a picturesque view of the garden.
Rooftop lounging
Just outside the master bedroom, the roof terrace offers a stunning view of the neighbourhood. A timber ceiling feature enhances the inviting ambience, while lush greenery, chic outdoor seating, and a bar counter create the perfect setting to relax and soak in the tranquil surroundings.
Backlit beauty
A standout feature of this home is the exquisite wine bar on the mezzanine level. Norman designed a striking bar counter with a luminous backlit stone top that becomes the focal point of the space. Complemented by elegant bar stools, a modern chandelier, and an impressive wine display, the space radiates sophistication and charm.

UNCONVENTIONAL LIVING
By: Dan & Co pushes the creative envelope with this BTO project, making the dining area the heart of the home to suit the homeowners’ love for entertaining.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
Rethinking spaces
The owners of this four-room BTO flat wanted a home built for hosting. With a small dining area and no need for a TV, the decision was made to merge the living and dining into one seamless social hub. A curved wall at the foyer adds privacy without closing off the space, setting the stage for effortless gatherings.
This home defies the typical HDB layout, embracing fluidity and openness to reflect the homeowners’ love for entertaining. Here, spaces merge, conversations flow, and every gathering feels effortless.
Expanding boundaries
As the wife loves to cook, lead designer Daniel Lim from By: Dan & Co extended the kitchen into the original dining area, creating a dedicated pantry. The wall of the nearest bedroom was also replaced with glass, visually expanding the space and bringing in more natural light.
Optimised for cooking (Top) The double-galley kitchen maximises countertop space for cooking and food prep. With an open layout, the colour scheme was carefully curated to flow seamlessly into the dining area and foyer. Deep, wood-toned cabinets add warmth and depth, enriching the space with a grounded, inviting feel.
Where comfort resides (Bottom) The master bedroom may be compact, but it’s smartly designed with ample storage while maintaining a sense of cosy intimacy. “We placed the dressing table by the window for natural light and connected the headboard with the wardrobe,” says Daniel. Cement-inspired laminates tie the space to the communal area, ensuring visual continuity.

SHIELDED DWELLING
Create Architecture has designed this corner terrace house with privacy in mind, adopting an inverted layout where the living areas open to lush greenery.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
Outside inside
The design creates a more private front facade, with the use of semi-enclosed courtyards to shield the interior from public view and to buffer against the tropical sun. A striking doubleheight balcony also extends from the second-storey entertainment room, creating a spacious outdoor retreat.
Built for family
Reimagined from the ground up, this corner terrace house was completely rebuilt by Create Architecture to meet the evolving needs of a multi-generational family. While the structure is entirely new, the design preserves the original stepped terrain on the first storey. With five well-appointed rooms, the home balances private sanctuaries with communal spaces, fostering both connection and retreat for its residents.
Open ascent
A skylight floods the pebbled floor with natural light, enhancing the airy ambience of the home’s central circulation space. The staircase, featuring timber treads and sleek glass railings, creates a visual connection between levels while maintaining an open, understated elegance. This harmonious blend of materials and light reinforces the home’s seamless integration of nature and architecture.
Layered warmth
Bathed in natural light, this serene bedroom suite is a study in understated sophistication, where warm, natural shades of brown and taupe contrast against crisp white surfaces. Thoughtfully curated furnishings, from the plush seating to the minimalist tables, enhance the sense of quiet luxury, creating a space that feels both intimate and refined.
Nature-led living
Designed with a split-level configuration, the first storey features a higher front section facing the road and a lower rear section opening to the garden. Departing from conventional layouts, service spaces are positioned along the street, while private living areas at the rear embrace the lush greenery and natural downslope, enhancing both privacy and dialogue with nature.
Picture perfect
Doorways frame lush green vistas, subtly integrating nature into the home’s interior. This visual connection fosters a serene and relaxed ambience, while warm timber finishes and clean lines heighten the sense of harmony and effortless flow between spaces.
Open-plan harmony
The sloping public park and garden at the rear of the house inspired the open-plan design with clear hierarchies of spaces within a rectilinear form. The doubleheight living and dining areas feel expansive yet intimately connect to their surroundings, evoking a sense a calm.
CASCADE HOUSE

Illuminated living
All the existing windows and their triangle roof eaves were demolished and reimagined as sloping-arched walls, which becomes the home’s unifying element. Expansive fulllength windows and a skylight invite abundant natural light, illuminating the space with warmth and enhancing its airy, open atmosphere.
Design evolution
With this project, Create Architecture reinterprets the neighbourhood’s traditional pitched-roof vernacular, infusing a contemporary expression while honoring its roots. “The concept starts with the pitched roof, demolishing the triangular window eaves and extruding the interior spaces into regular glass boxes that cascade from upper to lower floors,” says Co-founder and Director Xu Naiyan.
Stairway of light
(Top and right) Terrazzo-patterned flooring and glass railings lend a sense of continuity, guiding movement through the home. Extending across multiple levels all the way to the newly built attic, the material palette refines the stairwell as both a functional and sculptural element, allowing light to filter through and subtly shaping the spatial experience.
Breathing room
The homeowners envisioned a spacious home where they could rest, recharge, and entertain. To realise this, the rear was extended to the two-metre setback across three storeys, optimising space while maintaining openness. A small void in the original living room was also reopened, introducing a partial doubleheight space that brightens the intermediate terrace. Overall, the interplay of muted colours and subtle textures enhances calm and cohesion, creating a refined yet welcoming ambience.

All-in-one pantry
Heeding their clients’ request for a modern Victorian-inspired apartment with luxurious touches, Ashley Loh from D’ Initial Concept has designed a warm, inviting home where contemporary design meets classical details. Floorto-ceiling shaker-style cabinetry offers ample storage and easy access to food and drinks at mealtime, while pocket sliding doors neatly conceal the minibar when not in use.
Simple elegance
The homeowners’ love for Victorian design is given a contemporary spin in this elegant apartment
The colour palette is a study in artful restraint, with gentle shades of cream and woody textures infusing the home with a soothing ambience. In this minimalist setting, the wainscoted walls command greater attention, adding depth to the space, while the herringbone flooring contrasts beautifully with the arched window and organically shaped sofa, creating a seamless and harmonious flow throughout.
Kitchen luxe (Top) The compact kitchen has been completely revamped. The floor has been overlaid with light grey tiles, and the marble-patterned countertop and backsplash introduces a touch of luxury, elevating the overall aesthetic. Part of the yard bathroom has also merged with the common bathroom, making the latter more spacious and practical for daily use.
Sophisticated sanctuary
Exuding timeless luxury, the common bathroom sees the harmonious fusion of marble patterns and soft ambient lighting. The space is elegantly and simply furnished with a tall pedestal sink and slim shelving serving as focal points, and the space is a minimalist haven designed to elevate daily bathing rituals.
Dine in comfort
Designer Ashley has completely refreshed the space. The once dark-coloured interior now feels bright and uplifting in light shades of cream and warm browns. The dining area comfortably accommodates a table for eight and there is plenty of countertop space to prep and serve food and drinks when the family entertains.

Height of luxury
Despite its compact footprint, this apartment doesn’t hold back on style. Senior Designer Sharon Ong from D5 Studio Image has maximised its high ceilings, layering dark laminates and wallpaper for depth. Large-format materials minimise joint lines, with metallic gold strips neatly concealing connections. The result is an indulgent space where modern luxury unfolds in every detail.
Tracing in gold
The entire apartment is draped boldly in black and moody shades. In the kitchen, gold trimmings and handles frame the cabinetry, standing out against sleek black fittings and monochromatic flooring – demonstrating the designer’s skill in crafting a space that feels both dramatic and refined.
Sleeping upstairs
Making full use of the bedroom’s high ceiling, the designer has introduced a cosy loft for the sleeping area, maximising space without compromising comfort. The built-in staircase features cleverly integrated storage, ensuring every inch is put to good use.
Midnight dining
The dining area is immersed in black, with cabinets seamlessly blending into paneled walls for a refined, monochromatic look. A large sculptural pendant serves as a striking focal point, while the moveable dining table enhances flexibility, adapting to various needs and creating more space for entertaining when required.
A dressing retreat
With the sleeping area relocated to the loft, an entire room is now devoted to a dresser and storage. Like everywhere else in this apartment, the carefully curated mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting enhances the space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels both practical and indulgent.

All is calm
In the living area, an L-shaped builtin settee offers generous storage while maintaining the home’s minimalist aesthetic. “This versatile design serves as both a TV console and extra seating for gatherings,” says Howard.
Open study
The wall to bedroom two has been replaced with a glass sliding door, making the home feel more open and connected. Now a study for two, the room integrates with the rest of the home, where light wood-toned cabinetry and flooring create a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic.

Art of staying in
Though minimalist in design, this Bidadari BTO flat is full of character, brought to life by limewash paint finishes from Kalklitir that add a soft, organic touch. Optimising space and comfort, Design Consultant Jayle Lim from Darwin Interior reimagined the home, crafting a moody yet airy retreat tailored to its home-loving owners.
Smart zoning
With no service yard, kitchen space was limited. To maintain openness while controlling cooking odours, Jayle incorporated glass sliding doors to separate the dry and wet areas. The kitchen features Vulcan sintered stone surfaces from Lian Hin that draw out a monochromatic and slightly industrial feel.
Luxe sanctuary

A vanity counter decked in a dark grey laminate finish ties the look together. Thoughtfully designed, Jayle has crafted a serene space for everyday routines.
Dark refinement
The homeowners envisioned a sleek grey-and-black palette, but clever space planning was essential to make this work in their compact flat. “We removed the kitchen wall, adding an island and dry pantry to create a more open, seamless flow for the living and dining zones,” says Jayle.

a movie
The homeowner, an avid Wong Kar Wai fan, wanted his flat to have a retro Hong Kong vibe, and to reflect the aesthetic and mood found in the filmmaker’s movies. Leon Luo, Associate Director of Free Space Intent, has employed the play of light and shadow, integral to Wong Kar Wai’s style of moviemaking, with lighting choices that create atmosphere. Dark wood and green shades evoke nostalgia.
Retro world
Furnishings in this home are one of a kind. Some have been sourced from vintage stores while other are custom made. Designs with a contemporary spin also prevent the space from appearing dated. The homeowner’s vinyl record collection is prominently displayed on shelves, adding more layers to the personalitydriven home.
Project type: 5-room HDB flat
A massive display shelf is used to divide the large communal area into more intimate dining and living zones, and the master bedroom has merged with the adjacent study to create a large master suite with a walk-in wardrobe.

The display divider separates the dining and living zones while maintaining a sense of openness and has lots of space to showcase the owner’s enviable collection of vintage nostalgia. The master bedroom’s ventilation wall continues the theme of visual permeability and can be covered by a reeded glass sliding panel for greater privacy when needed.

Fun times
This home reflects the personalities and passions of the homeowners – a couple with two children. “The clients are Marvel hero fans and LEGO collectors. They love strong colours too, and wanted their home to be bold and fun, and to look different,” says Free Space Intent’s Design Director Raymond Seow, who used shapes, colours and lighting effects to create their dream home. He also designed a dedicated display area to showcase the homeowners’ collectibles.
Ride the wave
The space feels highly futuristic, thanks to the dramatic wavelike and curved patterns that stretch across the ceiling and walls. “The ceiling feature was quite challenging to design and construct, but the end result turned out beautifully,” says Raymond. Smart lighting effects highlight the unique patterns and can be set to different colours to evoke different moods.

First impression
The private lift lobby makes an elegant first impression with an exceedingly sleek, custom stainless steel shoe rack in a champagne finish. Despite its compact size, the space feels bright and open, thanks to the main door in glass that enhances light flow and offers an unobstructed view into the unit.
Timeless harmony
A picture of modern luxury, this home has an incredibly elegant and nuanced palette of creams and khaki, with nature-inspired textures, patterns and shapes woven in for added depth and sophistication. Working together on this project, designers Johnson Ng and Jayne Pang from Happe Design Atelier have considered the clients’ desire for me-time and shared moments with loved ones, and also included elements that make the home memorable.
Sublime curves
The TV wall is a striking example of how curves are seamlessly woven into the interior design. Soft lighting peeks out to highlight the console, adding warmth and ambience, while the textured paint finish enhances its organic appeal. Echoing this motif, the false ceiling features matching curves, ensuring a harmonious and fluid aesthetic.

The original layout was reimagined to better suit the homeowners’ lifestyle. “We transformed the master bedroom into a multifunctional space featuring the wife’s figurine display, a study nook, a massage chair corner and a wardrobe with a dedicated bag display. It is connected to bedroom 2, which is now the couple’s sleeping area,” says Johnson.
Modern luxury meets natureinspired elements, creating a serene yet sophisticated dwelling for both solitude and shared moments.
Pantry makeover Perfect for entertaining, the pantry’s original dark walnut cabinets have been replaced to align with the home’s new luxurious aesthetic. The space now features a travertinepatterned countertop and backsplash, complemented by light cream, finely textured cabinetry. A built-in wine chiller seamlessly integrates into the design, making the pantry a refined yet practical space.
Work and inspiration
Having a comfortable and inspiring home office was a priority for the owners. Designed with soothing, muted tones and soft curves, the space enhances productivity while maintaining a sense of calm. “It’s a place where the couple can focus, and the curved display cabinet complements the home’s overall aesthetic,” says Jayne.
Different facets
This apartment is thoughtfully designed to suit the homeowners’ complementary personalities –one thrives on social activities, while the other enjoys quiet, mindful pursuits. With work-fromhome in mind, the space also encourages both productivity and relaxation. Walls were removed to create a bright and open dwelling, while limewash finishes add warmth and texture.

Function meets flair
Having downsized from a three-storey landed house, the family’s primary concern was integrating their extensive collection of designer furniture, light fittings, and mid-century artwork into the new space. IDesignerLab addressed these needs by optimising space with discreet storage while incorporating display areas to showcase their art and decorative pieces.

The path leading to the private realm is seamlessly enveloped in wood veneers, including the doors, blending utility with aesthetic elegance. This harmonious design reflects the husband’s preference for understated sophistication and his wife’s creative flair, creating a visual narrative that brings the renovation process to life.

WELCOMING GRANDEUR
Marrying French and colonial-inspired elegance, I.D.I.D crafts a thoughtfully designed family home that balances the homeowners’ diverse tastes.
TEXT DISA TAN
Elegant fusion
From the onset, the design brief was clear – the husband gravitated toward colonial elegance, while the wife was drawn to French-inspired charm. Senior Designer Nicole Liu and the team at I.D.I.D skilfully merged both aesthetics, crafting a sophisticated yet functional sanctuary tailored to the needs of a growing family.
Quick and easy
Nicole shares: “The home has two kitchens – one in the backyard and an indoor one designed for lighter cooking.” Used for making beverages and quick meals, the indoor kitchen sports matte navyblue cabinets in a Shaker style and sleek KompacPlus countertops matched with classic subway tiles.
Chic frames
Fronting the kitchen is a serving window that adds a touch of convenience to the dining area. A gorgeous aluminium-framed French window serves as the focal interest, while the carefully chosen dining table perfectly complements the custom-built storage bench. Nicole cleverly concealed the guest bathroom entrance with fluted wall panels to maintain the elegant ambience.
Refined living (Top) The first level is dedicated to communal spaces, including the living room, dining area, and indoor kitchen. Cloaked in white, the living area features elegant wall mouldings that enhance its French-inspired aesthetic, while a custom-built black rattan TV console grounds the space with a touch of colonial charm.
Beautiful basement
A striking storage display has been seamlessly integrated beneath the basement staircase, making the most of this compact space. The additional storage enhances both functionality and flow, complementing the adjacent study.
Garden escape
(Top) Botanical print tiles elegantly frame the shower stall and curved mirror, bringing a sense of serene sophistication to the master bathroom. A freestanding bathtub acts as a calming focal point, perfect for unwinding. Nicole shares: “We opted for a doubleprofile KompacPlus countertop to achieve a thicker, more substantial look for the sink counter.”
Lasting sophistication
(Bottom) The renovation was approached with longevity in mind, ensuring that the home remains timeless as the children grow. Therefore, their bathroom showcases a more sophisticated outlook with classic monochromatic floor tiles, marble-inspired wall tiles, and shower fixtures in gold finishes.
Private getaway
(Top) Situated on the top level, the master bedroom offers a calming retreat from the outside world.
Nicole combined botanical-print wallpaper with a custom green headboard that spans the entire wall, creating a soothing and cohesive feature. Gentle curves on the wardrobe and doorway to the master ensuite further add to the tranquility.
Glamming up
(Bottom) A cosy corner in the bedroom has been transformed into an elegant vanity. Despite its small, nook-like size, the curved details on the mirror and wall-mounted dresser elevate the sense of grandeur and the homeowner’s overall beauty routine experience.
Soft curves and bold prints draw out a restful scheme for the private areas.

BEAUTIFUL CURVES
Embracing a curve-inspired design scheme, Indoor Art Studio has transformed this Tengah HDB flat into a tranquil sanctuary.
Good flow
Enamoured with curves, the homeowners wanted a home full of rounded beams and edges. They entrusted their vision to Vanessa Song and Carolyn Koh of Indoor Art Studio, who crafted a meticulously designed scheme featuring soft, soothing lines that perfectly capture the desired aesthetic.
Quiet serenity
The homeowners were drawn to the wabi-sabi aesthetic, prompting the designers to incorporate a creamy colour palette complemented by woody tones. Their responsibilities extended to sourcing a skilled contractor experienced in crafting curved partitions and ensuring the design adhered to the homeowners’ feng shui requirements.
Project type: 5-room HDB flat
Floor area: 1,216sqft
Gentle island
The rounded island counter, wrapped in travertine-inspired EDL laminate and featuring a Bellus countertop, brings relaxed elegance to the open-concept kitchen. The design is elevated by an artificial skylight and a grotto-like storage niche, which accentuate the island’s captivating curves and serve as a striking focal point.
Most pleasing
(Top left) The kitchen has been reconfigured by demolishing the wall to the service yard. With this seamless connection, the cookspace appears more spacious and airy. The designers even considered the low-lying beam a visual distraction and had it curved to soften the angular kitchen layout.
Rounded perfection
(Top right) The master bedroom has been combined with the common bedroom and is now much more spacious. It comfortably accommodates a walk-in wardrobe, and the arched doorway fitted with a pocket sliding door can enclose the space for greater privacy when needed.
Cosy mealtimes
(Bottom) To create a larger, more inviting dining area, the designers pushed back the wall to the study, resulting in a cosy and welcoming corner for meals. The newly created curved wall seamlessly aligns with the organically-shaped concrete bench, while glass block insertions allow natural light to filter through.
MID-CENTURY MIXOLOGY
Drawn to the timeless charm of mid-century design, the resourceful owners of this resale condo enlisted Indoor Art Studio to bring their vision to life, creating a home brimming with character and personality.
TEXT DISA TAN
Mood board enthusiasts
Having made Singapore their home, the Chinese-born homeowners envisioned a mid-century-inspired condo that captured vintage nostalgia. Turning to Xiaohongshu, a Chinese social media platform similar to Pinterest, they created their ideal mood board. To bring this vision to life, they engaged Creative Director Vanessa Song from Indoor Art Studio, marking the start of a collaborative renovation journey.
This apartment evokes the charm of midcentury nostalgia with vintage-style interiors, gentle curves, and earthy hues.
Fulfilled vision
(Top left) The must-haves on their mood board included monochromatic tiles with vintagestyle details and touches of green. With that in mind, Vanessa selected floor tiles from Hafary and green laminate finishes from Lamitak for the front entrance. She also designed a shoe cabinet with curved details that complement the curved oceanic float glass divider, enhancing the overall sense of design cohesion.
Gateway to openess
(Top right) An arched doorway beautifully frames the corridor leading to the private areas. It wasn’t always so bright and airy until Vanessa altered the configuration of the kitchen. Now the refreshed layout has introduced an open-concept kitchen with a charming peninsula counter that lets in lots of natural light.
Arched glamour
(Bottom left) The homeowners wanted double sinks in the master bathroom. By carefully installing the new sinks over the bathroom’s existing bay window, there was enough room for Vanessa to design a long vanity counter. She paired it with two mirror cabinets in elegant arched forms, mounted on the ceiling for a captivating floating effect.
A quiet place
(Bottom right) Vanessa decided to make the most out of the bay window in the dining area. She cladded it with Formica woodpatterned laminates from top to bottom and formed a cosy reading nook for quiet moments. It also serves as extra bench seating for the dining table.

URBAN SERENITY
Inizio Atelier has transformed this condo into a tranquil oasis, artfully blending sleek, minimalist design with warm, inviting details for a young, dynamic couple.
TEXT DISA TAN
Their happy place
An architect and a digital marketing specialist wanted a home that matched their modern lifestyles, serving as a social hub and a daily source of renewal and inspiration. To bring their vision to life, the young couple enlisted designers
Zelyn Pang and JD Tan from Inizio Atelier, who crafted a cosy sanctuary that balanced openness with pockets of privacy.
Zelyn explains the design approach: “The homeowners envisioned a space that could easily shift from a lively social area to an intimate retreat. To achieve this, we removed unnecessary partitions in the main living area, creating an open, flowing connection between the communal spaces and the kitchen.”
Wine and dine
(Top left) Tucked behind the dining area, this sleek bar nook features full-height louvered cabinets, and an arched niche accented in gold finish. Soft lighting further highlights the design details and adds warmth and sophistication. Compact yet elegant, this corner is an inviting spot to chill with a drink.
Hobby nook
(Top right) Unwinding with books and music is one of the homeowners’ favourite activities at home, and this cosy corner in the study has everything they need. Featuring a vintage turntable, it exudes a nostalgic vibe, enveloped in warm lighting that sets the perfect mood for relaxation.
Productivity unleashed
The rest of the study is decked in minimalist furnishings, including an ergonomic desk that suits the nature of the couple’s creative work. To maximise functionality, custom-built cabinets provide ample storage, keeping the space organised. Additionally, the desk faces the window so the homeowners can take a breather from time to time and enjoy the great view.
Patterned passage
The biggest design challenge was selecting the right patterned floor tiles for the walkway to complement the overall aesthetic. Zelyn explains: “It had to fit the home’s minimalist vibe without overpowering it. We chose a subtle geometric flooring pattern that not only complements but also connects the different areas, while giving the space a touch of character.”
The design draws on nature as well as traditional and cultural influences to create spaces filled with soul.
Tropical respite
In the master bedroom, Zelyn and JD have curated a serene yet evocative retreat, where clean lines and a neutral palette lay the foundation for quiet sophistication. Japanese-inspired wall panels introduce a sense of artistry, their curved frames tracing tropical motifs. The interplay of soft textures and organic patterns evokes calm, elevating the room’s tranquil atmosphere.

HARMONY AT HOME
Designed for ease and connection, this home by Intheory Design reflects a creative couple’s pursuit of balance, blending style with a relaxed, family-first approach.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
For the family
The homeowners are a married couple in their 40s who work in creative industries, and who prioritise family time with their kids. Ryan Linardy, Lead Designer at Intheory Design says: “They desired a spacious and uncluttered home that was both stylish and kid-friendly – a serene retreat where they could unwind, read, enjoy quiet moments, and bond.”
Daily rituals
(Left) The multifunctional counter and coffee pantry are key features. “This area serves as the home’s social hub and workspace,” says Ryan. The countertop provides ample room for meal prep and casual dining, while the pantry features the perfect balance of open shelving and concealed storage.
In and out
(Right) The kitchen is separated by a glass window that maintains visual connection. In this project, the challenge was balancing a tight budget while preserving both functionality and aesthetic integrity. “We prioritised features with the most impact. Also, natural finishes were allowed to shine without excessive embellishment,” says Ryan.
Perfect retreat
Guided by the brief, Ryan has designed a minimalist home where form, function, and warmth converge. Japandi influences emerge in the form of subtle vertical grooves, raw wood details, and textured surfaces that celebrate natural materials and craftsmanship. Soft beige natural stone surfaces are harmoniously paired with shades of white and black accents, evoking a soothing, inviting atmosphere.
Warmth of terracotta
Terracotta coloured tiles, stone surfaces and ambient lighting imbue the bathroom with a warm and earthy feel. Intimate, cosy and relaxing, it perfectly captures the sentiment and vision that the homeowners have for their home.
Good night
A good lighting strategy is essential for good sleep. Here, the designer’s thoughtful selection of lighting elements, such as sculptural wall and side lights, illuminate the bedroom with a diffused glow. The play of light and shadow against the dark wood panels and textured headboard shapes the atmosphere into a tranquil retreat that encourages deep rest and relaxation.
SERENE ESCAPE
Intheory Design reimagines a compact apartment through a lens of material honesty and quiet functionality, creating a space where nature and daily life intertwine.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
Designed for stillness
In East Coast, Ellba Tang of Intheory Design transformed this compact apartment into a nature-inspired retreat. Prioritising spatial flow and a biophilic approach, the design balances function and tranquillity.
“The homeowners envisioned a cosy sanctuary to unwind after demanding workdays,” Ellba shares. In the dining area, a custom stone table and brass pendants bring understated elegance while complementing the greenery beyond the apartment.
Framing the entry
A warm, natural palette sets the tone from the moment of entry. The timber finishes extend overhead, drawing the eye upward and establishing a cohesive visual rhythm that continues into the rest of the home.
Kitchen as centrepiece
The kitchen was reconfigured from a single-row layout to a more efficient double-row design, integrating dry and wet zones with the yard and storeroom.
“The owners’ preference for curved forms was incorporated to soften angles, creating a sense of flow and cohesion,” says Ellba.
Terrazzo flooring with rose gold inlays defines the space, while moss green tiles introduce depth and texture.
See through
A clear glass panel opens up the master bath, inviting light and a seamless connection to the wardrobe/dressing area. Featuring a sunken bath and layered with stone and wood finishes, the space is an indulgent retreat.

Scandinavian aesthetics with feng shui principles, creating a harmonious home that feels both bright and balanced.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
Harmony at home
The owners of this four-room flat wanted their home to reflect their personalities and were open to experimentation. Importantly, the space had to incorporate both Scandinavian design and feng shui elements, and these requirements ultimately had a great influence on Loft. nine Design Studio’s proposed layout and colour scheme. With significant reconfiguration to the common areas, the unit is now airy and open.
Project type: 4-room HDB flat
Floor area: 1,022sqft
Wide open
“The homeowners desired an openconcept kitchen to improve the sense of space and flow throughout the unit,” says Kya Yee, interior designer at Loft.nine. Besides demolishing the kitchen walls, the designer also removed one bedroom to accommodate a spacious dining area, and the entire communal space now feels so much more open and visually connected.
At the bar (Bottom left) The bar counter separates the dining from the kitchen and is a perfect arrangement for entertaining, allowing the homeowners to interact with guests while preparing meals or to hang out with friends. It’s also a great spot for a quick breakfast before heading out the door.
Removing bedroom 3 and the kitchen walls opens up the communal area dramatically, creating a much more spacious living/dining/kitchen setup
High performer
The kitchen feels warm and inviting thanks to the pairing of woodgrain patterns and deep green surfaces. Exemplifying the merging of style and function, the space features ample cabinets for storage and countertop space for food preparation, while lovely details such as the farmhouseinspired magazine shelf offers a spot to showcase the owners’ art.
Made for relaxing
By relocating the dining area to the space where bedroom 3 once stood, the homeowners now enjoy a significantly more spacious living area. Adopting a minimalist approach to furnishing, the cream-coloured sofa, wooden TV console, and window blinds perfectly complement the Scandinavianinspired interior, enhancing its soothing and laid-back vibe.
DARK TWIST
By incorporating unexpected and elegant details, Loft.nine Design Studio brings a fresh spin to a brief for a dark and minimalist home.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
Project type: 5-room HDB flat

Nature and light
The open-plan layout connects the dining area and kitchen effortlessly, while natural elements and organic shapes are a nod to the outdoors. Since darker tones can absorb light, making spaces feel smaller and dim if not managed carefully, the designer gave much thought to the lighting strategy, incorporating ambient, task and accent lighting, and using dimmers to adjust the mood.
Wind down
Bedroom two and the master bedroom have merged to create a larger suite for the couple. Carrying the same minimalist language, it is a soothing haven where the couple can escape to after a long day. Once again, lighting is used to good effect, this time to enhance the room’s warm and cosy ambience.
Broken beauty
Loft.nine Design Studio has answered a couple’s call for a darkthemed home with a design that is elegant, yet imaginative and bold. The foyer is the perfect example, where Senior Designer Kaden Tay created a free-form patterned flooring made of odd-shaped tiles embedded in cement screed, and even invited the homeowners to break the tiles for that all-personal touch. The metallic-effect laminated shelves help to brighten the space.
Descending into zen
The living room is a calm and meditative space. A limewash textured feature wall meets dark flooring, giving the space depth, while subdued tones and minimalist aesthetics invite the homeowners to kick back and relax.

RETHINKING SPACES
Despite complex technical implications that resulted from the reprogramming of space, Metaphor Studio successfully designed a home suited for entertaining and familial bonding.
TEXT VANITHA PAVAPATHI
Revised plan
Home to a pair of bankers and their two children, the house underwent significant renovations including a structural extension spanning the entire space without intermediate bracing or columns. Metaphor Studio relocated the utility areas to the front of the house, transforming the rear into a private, open realm to host lively social gatherings.
Spatial improvement
The redesign went beyond a layout reversal, removing walls for enhanced openness and replacing the L-shaped staircase with a single-flight design, creating a more spacious interior. Beneath the staircase, a full-height shoe cabinet doubling as common storage with wood-laminated door panels, serves as a striking and functional entryway feature.
Social space
Accessible by stepping down timber and concrete slabs, the sunken living room forms an intimate and subtly enclosed area within the open plan programme. Diverted from the front to the back of the house, it makes up part of the new extension.
Wood, steel, stone, concrete, and tinted glass come together to create a welcoming and sophisticated ambience in this family home.
Seamless transition
A double-volume extension opening to the outdoor patio added a powder room to the living area. Since the owners frequently host cigar parties and wine appreciation nights, this unexpected feature is a welcome addition while blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The unfinished cement screed floors further highlight the harmonious coexistence of new and existing elements.
Layer by layer
(Top right) Two bedrooms were merged to create a spacious master suite suspended above the living area. Featuring wall-to-wall windows at the front and rear, it maximises cross ventilation and offers panoramic views of the lush surrounding greenery. The design also allows the owners to monitor their toddler downstairs while enjoying a sense of privacy.
Architectural ingenuity
Massive structural piles, integrated as wall features housing architectural lights, create an expansive column-free living space. These vertical elements contrast beautifully with insulated AAC block party walls, reducing plaster use compared to traditional clay bricks.
Sustainable move
Metaphor Studio introduced passive cooling to replace air-conditioning, which the owners were habituated to using in their previous home.
Timber louvred screens crafted from salvaged staircase treads and risers from the owner’s parents’ old house, were installed at the rear to promote natural ventilation.

First impressions
The designer has thoughtfully carved out a cosy foyer within the unit, creating a defined entryway that enhances privacy for the living and dining areas. A striking glass brick wall not only introduces a touch of retro charm but also allows natural light to filter through, ensuring that the home’s entrance remains bright and welcoming.
Creative flair
The owners of this four-room flat work in the creative industry and wanted their home to be a canvas for personal self-expression while meeting their daily needs and lifestyle aspirations. “The couple find inspiration in art and design, and are also social butterflies who love to entertain. Their home therefore had to factor in these considerations,” says designer Shawn Tan from MET Interior.
Keeping it simple
In the kitchen, warm woodgrains contrast against the cool sheen of steel, striking a balance between warmth and precision. Finger-pull cabinets enhance the seamless aesthetic, while a slim shelf introduces lightness. Every element works in harmony to create a refined, minimalist space where cooking becomes an effortless ritual.
Living with art
(Top) The couple’s quirky and bold art pieces aren’t just decor – they influence the way the space has been designed. “By using art to shape the atmosphere and layout, the home becomes a living gallery where each room feels like an extension of their personal taste and story,” says Shawn. Colour choices are simple yet impactful as well, with white walls, grey flooring and walnut wall cladding keeping the space feeling both grounded and unified.
Reveal and hide
(Bottom) Most of the non-structural walls have been demolished to create a seamless and open living space better suited to hosting and creative work, while maintaining private areas for relaxation. In line with the couple’s preferences, the designer also seamlessly integrated discreet storage solutions and concealed doors to the household shelter, common bathroom, and master suite – ensuring a tidy, efficient space with unexpected elements of surprise.
Demolishing bedroom 3 creates a larger living/dining space better suited to entertaining, work and relaxation. Merging bedroom 2 with the master bedroom, and extending the door further down the corridor creates an enlarged suite with a connected study and walk-in wardrobe.
BEDROOM
Beauty in detail
Thoughtful details can be found in every corner of this home and give the home personality. Despite its simple and minimalist design, the master suite carries little features that bring on a smile. For example, the quirky circular knobs on the wardrobe mirror the side lights in the sleeping area.
Subtle boundaries
Despite the open-plan layout, the strategic arrangement of furnishings and design elements establishes distinct zones for different activities, ensuring both functionality and flow. The living room, in particular, exudes a cosy and inviting atmosphere, where rich textures and a dynamic mix of deep and vibrant hues add depth, warmth, and a sense of intimacy to the space.
Dream time
There is comfort in simplicity, and the bedroom’s whitewashed interior gives the space a calm and ethereal quality that’s perfect for rest. The white bedframe blends in perfectly, and the casually placed floor lamp adds to the room’s laidback charm.
Open sesame
A concealed door opens to unveil the thoughtfully expanded master suite, made possible by merging two rooms. To enhance spatial flow, the entryway has been repositioned further down the original corridor, creating an elongated pathway that leads to the walk-in wardrobe and study. Meanwhile, the sleeping quarters is discreetly tucked to the right, offering a heightened sense of privacy and retreat.

Space efficiency (Right) For what might be wasted space, MYNMYN Studio capitalised on the bay window to include a built-in desk and cabinet for additional storage. This design manoeuvre expertly navigated the narrow layout, increasing usable space for the couple without the need to expand the bedroom.

Calming effect
(Left) The homeowner envisioned a tranquil retreat with warm, neutral interiors designed to evoke a sense of serenity. To achieve this, wood tones and natural hues take centre stage throughout this resale condo. In the bedroom, the original wardrobe was refreshed with wood veneers and burlap-patterned wallpaper on the doors, adding understated charm to the space.
Homogeneous approach
(Right) To create a visually spacious bathroom, large-format tiles from Hafary were used on the walls, with the same material cut into subway tiles for a herringbone-patterned floor. This cohesive yet texturally contrasting design is enhanced by a flushmounted mirror cabinet and a bespoke vanity with an integrated quartz sink.
Perfect harmony
(Top) This apartment seamlessly blends Mediterranean and Scandinavian design influences. The open-plan living and dining area exudes a relaxed charm, featuring a mix of new and vintage mid-century furniture. A muted colour palette, punctuated by a vibrant patterned rug, draws the eye to the lush greenery framed by the expansive windows.
Refined transformation
(Bottom left) Unlike the typical one-bedder with an open kitchen concept, this home boasts a closed kitchen – a rare and welcomed feature. Fully revamped to align with the overall interiors, the space features veneered cabinetry, a sleek double-profile Dekton countertop, and imported terracotta hexagonal floor tiles, combining functionality with timeless elegance.
Project Type: 1-bedroom condominium unit

Being grounded
(Bottom right) With the apartment’s compact size in mind, a round dining table was selected to help ease movement around the space. Positioned between the kitchen entrance and bedroom door, it comfortably seats four. To integrate the furniture seamlessly into the open layout, a framed artwork on the wall acts as a focal point, anchoring the dining area.

Layers of legacy
This bright and airy home features vibrant details that celebrate the family’s Peranakan heritage. “The design had to be evergreen, offer ample storage, and seamlessly blend classic elements with Peranakaninspired motifs,” say Wein Goh, Design Director of Notion of W. While the overall design remains cohesive, each level – occupied by a different generation – includes touches that reflect their individual preferences.
Warm greeting
In the foyer, Peranakan-inspired tiles adorn the wall, framed by warm timber that extend to the ceiling. This intimate entrance pays homage to the family’s heritage, and makes the transition into the double-height dining and living area feel even more dramatic.
A garden within Little luxuries abound. For example, this bedroom has been ingeniously designed to incorporate an indoor garden. “We covered the roof of the balcony and made this space an indoor one. We then introduced a plant wall and bench seating, thus creating a chillout spot for the young couple living here,” says Senior Designer Grace Chua.
Embracing openness
The same Peranakan motifs are consistently applied across the home in an elegant manner. In this corner, the designers have installed glass panels in an angular design that makes the most of the awkward corner. The see-through divider ensures that cooking fumes are kept to the kitchen while allowing natural light to pour deep into the space.
Elegant affair
A paneled sliding door opens to reveal a grand dressing room. The wooden flooring and patterned rug introduce warmth, creating a harmonious contrast against the predominantly white palette, while the wall mouldings evoke timeless elegance.
Space-savvy design (Left) The kids’ room is cleverly designed to fit three beds comfortably while maintaining a bright and spacious feel, showcasing the designers’ expertise in space planning. The white colour scheme continues here, providing a timeless backdrop that will adapt as the children grow.
Light and elevation (Right) A patterned screen adds visual interest while maintaining an open, airy feel. Warm wood tones on the steps and floor contrast elegantly with crisp white railings and walls, creating a sophisticated yet inviting ambience.

HERITAGE PALETTE
Notion of W infuses a standard BTO with soul, using bold Peranakan-inspired patterns and splashes of nostalgic colour to create a character-filled home.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
Big personality
This home reflects the owners’ love for cooking and bold colours. To complement their existing rosewood furniture, Notion of W’s Senior Designer Grace Chua introduced a nostalgic shade of green and Peranakan-style tiles that add character and charm. Flooring variations subtly define different areas and weave in a touch of playfulness.
Shower heaven
(Top left) Beautiful Peranakanstyle motifs also make their way into the master bathroom. Paired with wood-effect tiles and elegant bronze shower fittings, the space channels the vibe of the designer boutique hotel.
Cleansing rituals
(Top right) The washbasin was specially ordered from overseas, and stands like a jewel in the space, elevating the daily washing experience. Complemented by green tiles and a simple woodfinished vanity, the space exudes a nostalgic charm – a recurring theme throughout the home.
Culinary adventures
The open-concept kitchen serves as the heart of the home, providing the perfect space for the couple to indulge in cooking and their chocolate-making hobby. In addition to a spacious island, the designer has incorporated generous counter space for functionality. The green cabinets harmonise with the patterned flooring, which transitions to a wood finish in the wet kitchen.

GENTLE CHARM
By melding creamy monochromes with soft shapes and woody surfaces, OVON has given this home warmth and soul.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
A perfect retreat
Answering the homeowners’ call for a cosy home, interior designer Kah Fei from OVON has used a monochromatic colour scheme of predominantly whites and creams to give this flat an ethereal-like quality. The solid wood timber flooring, plush sofas, soft curves, and a textured rug add layers of comfort and style, while the thoughtful interplay of white and warm white lighting create a radiant and inviting ambience and bring attention to the homeowner’s collectibles.
This flat demonstrates the power of a minimal colour palette, where creamy shades meet woody surfaces and minty accents to create a calming retreat.
Cool as mint
The entrance to the kitchen has been widened to make the space feel brighter and more open. Given the homeowners’ love for mint green, the designer has incorporated the shade tastefully into the kitchen using mint green tiles as a backsplash. Durable white Melmer quartz countertops were chosen for heavy cooking, complementing the white laminated cabinetry to achieve a fresh, crisp, and inviting aesthetic.
More room
(Top left) The wall between the storeroom and master bedroom was demolished to create a larger master suite with a spacious home office, walk-in wardrobe, and even a luxurious double sink vanity outside the bathroom. A panel divider effectively separates the work and dress areas for privacy so the homeowners can go about their daily routines with ease.
Play with pattern
(Top right) Mint green tiles in a chevron pattern add playfulness and texture to the cream-toned bathroom, creating a look that is serene yet dynamic. Striking black fixtures provide bold contrast, introducing a modern edge that enhances the overall elegance of the space.
Art of dining
Thanks to the widened kitchen entrance and removal of the previous balcony sliding doors near the entrance, the dining area now feels more spacious and can also comfortably accommodate an eight-seater table. A variety of lighting options, including spotlights, a pendant light, and table lamp, provide versatile ways to illuminate the space and enhance the ambience.
PERFECT MOOD
Who’s afraid of the dark? OVON shows how moody colours and earthy textures can turn a compact flat into a restful and cosy haven.
TEXT JANICE SEOW
Luminescence in darkness
To enhance the sense of space in this relatively compact DBSS flat, the first thing interior designer Simon Chin from OVON did was to break down the walls of the previously enclosed kitchen. A wraparound counter now conveniently doubles as a pantry and connects seamless with the wet kitchen where all-black cabinetry and dark stone surfaces achieve the bold aesthetic that the homeowners desired.
Earthy notes
(Top) This home is a perfect response to the homeowners’ brief for a dark and cosy home. Deep shades are harmoniously paired with earthy textures, limewash walls meet woody surfaces, and subtle curves and simple furnishings create a serene atmosphere. With the dining area relocated to the balcony, the living room now has space to accommodate a play area for the couple’s young child.
Intimate rituals
(Bottom left) The dark theme carries through to the master bathroom. The tasteful combination of blacks, greys and textured tiles has a wonderful and dramatic impact, and gives this space a most intimate atmosphere. Matching fittings and strategic lighting accentuate the moody aesthetic.
Project type: 4-room DBSS flat
Floor area: 990sqft
Framing the view
(Bottom right) This room has been turned into a study and walk-in wardrobe, and leads into the master bedroom via a connecting door. The designer has capitalised on the enviable view, and designed custom cabinetry that not only offers plenty of storage but also perfectly frames the lush scenery.

RESTFUL AURA
A sense of zen-like relaxation flows through this five-room HDB flat, designed by Plush Interior Design as the perfect retreat for a young couple to rest and recharge.
TEXT DISA TAN
Japandi welcome Craving moments of serenity, the homeowners enlisted Design Director Chris Zhang of Plush Interior Design to design a restorative home. Chris opted for a Japandi style, which complements the existing vinyl flooring. He notes: “We had to include the current vinyl flooring and tiles provided by HDB into the design scheme for this threemonth renovation.”
Cosy contemplation
Wood-look laminates for the carpentry have been selected to echo timber-style vinyl floors. In the living area, these laminates match well with muted hues on the custombuilt storage, crafting a cosy yet serene atmosphere. The same finish extends to a raised platform, inviting moments of quiet reflection.
Project
Follow the curve
Chris designed a long kitchen counter with elegant curves that stretch from the wet to the dry area. He explains: “While it’s a continuous design, one side is dedicated to cooking and food prep, and the other peninsula counter serves as a versatile pantry.”
Flowing palette
(Left) The designer used the same material and colour palette throughout the open-plan layout to create a unified look. He explains: “This approach ties the space together and highlights the beauty of the curves.”
Limewash luxe
(Right) The dining area features an elegant arched wall, accented with wood-look shelves that lend warmth and character. The natural interplay of limewash surfaces and wood creates a balanced, inviting focal point, providing a beautiful backdrop for both dining and entertaining in a relaxed, comfortable setting.
Laidback glow
The master bedroom, enveloped in soft, gentle hues, serves as a serene retreat. Chris’s minimalist approach to the bedframe and wardrobe enhances the room’s tranquil ambience, while warm backlighting amplifies the inviting atmosphere.
Everyday luxury
In the master bathroom, Chris selected new stone-patterned wall tiles to bring in a touch of subtle luxury. These tiles complement the space, seamlessly integrating with the existing elements and adding an understated elegance that ties everything together beautifully.
Designed for calm, built for rest – this home is the perfect Japandi retreat.

FARMHOUSE MOD
By embracing a simple and refined palette, Plush Interior Design has created an effortlessly spacious and inviting HDB flat with quiet farmhouse vibes.
TEXT DISA TAN
Light and easy
Design Director Chris Zhang of Plush Interior Design has put a modern spin on the farmhouse style in this young couple’s flat. “We opted for a lighter, cleaner colour palette to create a bright, open feel,” he shares, offering a fresh interpretation of traditional cosy aesthetics.
A curated mix
Central to achieving this look was the careful selection of materials and finishes. The home features cabinetry in matte white laminates from EDL, enhancing design coherence. Gentle curves on the full-height fixtures are beautifully highlighted by soft, diffused lighting.
Expanded possibilities
Chris altered the flat’s layout by removing the boundary walls in the kitchen and service yard to introduce an open-concept kitchen. “This not only opened up the space but also made room for elegant curves that complement the custom-built fixtures throughout the home,” he explains.
Graceful gestures
(Left) Standout features include the arched door and Shakerstyle cabinetry in the master bedroom, which enhance the farmhouse charm while adding a touch of sophistication. The fluted glass-paneled door opens to the ensuite bathroom, creating a dreamy transition.
Peaceful escape
(Right) The master bathroom radiates feel-good vibes with its two-tone wall treatment – striking aquamarine-hued tiles against a neutral base. It is a blend of functionality and design flair, capturing the couple’s desire to create a peaceful sanctuary away from the urban hustle.
Farmhouse warmth meets modern refinement, where classic touches blend effortlessly with contemporary interiors.

BEAUTY IN SIMPLICITY
By keeping to just one laminate design, Rhiss Interior has created a statement-making home with a warm and welcoming ambience.
Singular appeal
The owners of this flat entrusted Director Eddie Yeo from Rhiss Interior with a clear vision: to use just one laminate design. Eddie shares: “We created a cohesive look using a single laminate colour from Greenlam throughout the home, ensuring it felt neither monotonous nor overwhelming. From the custom-built table to the rooms and toilet doors, the consistent use of this laminate brings understated elegance.”
Understated calm
Pairing fluted panels with laminate coverings of the same tone for the television wall, Eddie created a multi-textured feature in the living area. Complementing this design, the low-lying console and the walls behind the sofa feature the same laminate, resulting in a cohesive, relaxed environment that seamlessly blends texture and tone for a harmonious aesthetic.
Streamlined storage (Top) Creating ample storage was a priority for the homeowners, who have a child and enjoy traveling and shopping. To maximise space, Eddie designed hidden, full-height cabinetry at the front entrance and across the living area. A display niche was also added to showcase their treasured items, blending functionality with thoughtful design.
Entertaining ready (Bottom) Since the open-concept kitchen is part of the communal space, the cabinets feature the homeowners’ preferred laminate. Eddie says: “We used the same laminate for the base of the custombuilt dining table and topped it with an elegant marble-patterned countertop from Aurastone.”
Laidback lounging
Spotlights and cove lighting from LuxLab cast a soothing sheen onto the wood-patterned laminate finishes, enhancing the cosy vibe. With its warm lighting and plush seating, the living area is a luxurious and inviting retreat for the homeowners to unwind after a long day.
Stunning dimensions
(Top) Using the same laminate, Eddie curated a luxurious master bedroom featuring a custom-built wardrobe and vanity table. A fluted laminate feature was incorporated into the headboard design, adding a beautiful tactile contrast to the padded bedframe and elevating the space with refined texture and visual appeal.
Bathroom envy
(Bottom) Resembling a hotel bathroom, the master bath features a large integrated sink that enhances the aesthetics of this humble HDB space. By matching the marble veining patterns on the wall and floor tiles, Eddie has created a refreshed sanctuary of wellness and relaxation.
The choice to use a single laminate design sparked creativity, enabling each element to be carefully curated for a seamless, well-balanced look that feels intentional and refined.

Curve appeal
In this home, curves and arches define the architecture and every surface reflects a commitment to clean, minimalist design. Sculpted features morph into display shelves and even conceal the entrance to the household shelter.
Project type: 5-room HDB flat
Floor area: 980sqft
To unify the space further, Lead Designer Max Lee from SG Interior Design has extended microcement flooring throughout the home. “Done in a similar shade to the walls, the matte finish gently reflects light, amplifying the natural brightness that floods in through the windows,” he explains.
Effortless entertaining
Strategically situated between the kitchen and dining area, the pantry accommodates a large fridge and bar, making it easy for the homeowners to grab a drink or prep beverages when they entertain. The woodgrain cabinetry blends in seamlessly with the adjacent kitchen carpentry, maintaining visual harmony.
An open view
A large internal window enhances the visual connection between the study and living area while allowing natural light to flow more effectively throughout the unit. In this home, every detail – curved or straight – contributes to a serene, cohesive living environment and is enhanced by a thoughtfully restrained colour palette of whites, greys and muted earth tones.
Mastering the arch
The kitchen’s arch-shaped storage cabinetry is not just unconventional but also highlights SG Interior Design’s craftsmanship and technical expertise. “The challenge was ensuring these custom curves were not only visually striking but also structurally sound and practical for daily use,” Max explains. He adds that achieving this required a deep understanding of material properties and expert craftsmanship to execute the design with precision.
Sink into serenity
With efficient space planning, the designer was able to construct a cosy bay window where the owners could go to unwind and enjoy some me-time. It even includes open storage for books. Here too, the deep green wall adds colour and evokes a sense of calm.

Form and function
Designed for a bachelor, this condo showcases SG Interior Design’s dedication to detail and timeless design principles. Aesthetics and practicality are considered in equal measure, and the owner’s love for nature is elegantly realised with the incorporation of natural and organic materials into minimalist interiors. Floors and pantry are decked in light woodgrain finishes, and the integrated bar and dining table is a special custom piece made for entertaining.
Escape into comfort
The home is defined by warm minimalism – it is neither stark nor cold and has its own personality. Interior designer Sim Yuli says: “Little corners like this one become moments of serendipitous discovery, and unexpected vistas and play of light enhance the sensory experience.”
Refined landscape
Despite its minimalist design, the home carries a variety of visual interests where nature-inspired materials like woody finishes and travertine slabs create a natural palette of contrasting textures. Yuli shares that unsightly structural beams were also a design concern. “We used curves to disguise them, and one challenge was to ensure the sculptural features were visually engaging without being arbitrary in the space,” she says.
Steely beauty
The stainless steel backsplash and countertop bring a modern industrial touch to the kitchen. As a durable and low-maintenance material, it’s the perfect choice for busy individuals looking for minimal upkeep. Every aspect of the galley style setup, from the choice of colours and materials to the storage solutions, was designed with consideration for both form and function.
Less is more
The master bedroom embraces the idea of “less is more”, as famously quoted by modernist architect Mies van der Rohe. Cove, side and back lighting come together harmoniously to create a warm and inviting ambience. The travertine headboard is a simple but powerful statement piece and a nod to nature.

The formerly enclosed wet and dry kitchens have been combined and made into a spacious, open-plan hub. “The island, with its waterfall-edge Caesarstone countertop, is the focal point, integrating a lower bar table for the children,” says the designer. A trio of oversized Diesel pendant lights further define the space.
Enduring style
Designer pieces from Flexform and Vitra create a living area that’s both stylish and timeless, where generous sofas in varying configurations invite relaxation and accommodate different needs. “With most furniture pieces taking three to four months to arrive, meticulous scheduling was crucial to align deliveries with the project timeline,” says the designer.

THINGS THAT FUEL OUR CREATIVITY: Our creativity thrives on understanding the relationship between people and their environment. When this evolves, so do the spaces we design, fostering a continuous cycle of learning and adaptation. Such a process ensures that our work remains thoughtful, responsive, and deeply rooted in the lives of those who reside in them.

INDUSTRIAL EDGE
Three-D Conceptwerke brings a fresh spin to industrial style, blending rich textures, moody hues, and soft illumination to craft a cosy yet edgy home for a work-from-home professional.

Light and shadow
Given that the owner of this condo works from home, the design needed to balance both her living and professional needs. “The client gravitates toward modern industrial aesthetics, favours rich textures, and wanted a moody ambience while still having sufficient natural light,” says Jine Chin, Associate Designer at Three-D Conceptwerke, who set out to create a space that embodied that vision.
Seamless transition
As the homeowner seldom cooks and prefers a more open layout, the designer has removed the original glass panel and door that enclosed the kitchen to enhance the sense of space. The peninsula counter extends into the dining table, creating a seamless flow between the two areas, while a sculptural pendant lamp anchors the space with a bold focal point.
Rooted in nature
A custom-potted plant from Soilboy sits in the balcony, bringing a touch of nature into the home. The greenery contrasts beautifully with the muted, earthy tones of the interior, adding vibrancy and a sense of freshness while softening the space with its organic, calming presence.
Dark to light
Seamless dark-toned cabinetry echoes the home’s moody aesthetic. Storage has been reconfigured to suit the homeowner’s needs, while the lightly textured backsplash and counters serve as a counterpoint, adding depth and a tactile quality that softens the deep palette.
Balancing act
The living area is a masterclass in balance, where the designer’s skill ensures the moody aesthetic feels rich and inviting rather than dim or heavy. Limewash-painted walls add depth, while rich brown furnishings bring warmth. Sunlight from the balcony cuts through the darkness, so the space feels both grounded and effortlessly liveable.
Green statement
The owner wanted a focal point in the living area, but the designer has instead strategically placed it in the corridor for greater visibility from the entrance. “Rather than a typical feature wall, opting for a plant arrangement from Soilboy brings freshness and a dynamic energy that makes the home feel more inviting,” says Jine.
Dual-purpose space
As the homeowner works remotely, the room nearest to the living area has been transformed into a functional study. Designed for flexibility, it also doubles as a guest room, providing a comfortable space for family members who occasionally stay over.
Elegance in simplicity
Since she lives alone, the designer combined the master suite with the adjacent room, and transformed the latter into a spacious walk-in closet. The sleeping area remains understated, with a cohesive colour palette that seamlessly blends with the rest of the apartment, ensuring a harmonious and visually fluid design.
Naturally lit
Fluted glass doors and glass block walls brighten the corridor and allow more natural light to filter in, enhancing the garden-like feel and nourishing the plant. A stuccoeffect finish on the walls of the dining area and corridor introduces depth and texture, adding a tactile richness to the space.
With rich textures, moody hues, and natural light, the design translates industrial grit into a home that feels warm and alive.

DESIGN MEETS FENG SHUI
Urban Delineation crafts a serene retreat for a family of four with the guidance of a renowned feng shui consultant.
TEXT VANITHA PAVAPATHI
Strong influences
Drawing inspiration from Eastern and Japanese heritage, this serene dwelling nurtures a young family’s aspirations for well-being, prosperity, and a future illuminated by the brilliance of life. Five key elements of feng shui were carefully weaved into the design with a tree in the living room as an anchoring design narrative.
Sensorial journey
“To ground the design in cultural and philosophical understanding, the team researched extensively on geomancy, metaphysics and Eastern heritage,” shares design principal Bryan A Chng. At the entrance, the soothing sound of flowing water from the water feature symbolises prosperity, serenity, vitality and adaptability.
Project Type: 3-bedroom condominium unit
Floor Area: 1,076sqft
Greater connection
The layout remains largely unchanged save for the social spaces, where Urban Delineation removed all non-structural walls to unite the kitchen, living area and balcony-turned-dining area into a large, open space. “The cohesive living space now fosters a sense of wholeness and connection for the family,” says Bryan.
Space for more
The strategic modification allowed for the addition of a striking kitchen island, with the area illuminated by a cloud-like pendant light. Modern and elegant, the island’s marble countertop from Cosentino beautifully complements the adjacent TV feature wall.
The owners appreciate how the design transformation seamlessly blends functionality with aesthetics, resulting in a home that feels like a sanctuary.
Hideaway oasis
In the master bedroom, a wallto-wall wardrobe also doubles as a portal to a secret oasis. By camouflaging the entry to the en suite, this clever intervention echoes the streamlined design throughout the apartment while maximising usable space within a small footprint.
Sleek finish
(Top right) Like the rest of the apartment, the carpentry surfaces in the master bedroom are meticulously finished with premium laminates from Panaplast. Here, the built-in furniture wonderfully accommodates the air-conditioning unit without restricting airflow.
Private haven
(Bottom right) By forgoing nightstands on either side of the bed, the design team was able to fit in a study desk in one corner of the master bedroom. This allows the owners, Willy and Nikkole, who work in the finance and horticultural sectors respectively, a quiet space for remote work.
