Thursday Entertainment

The 2012 IMHR National Show will feature a Stallion Parade allowing owners and breeders to showcase their breeding stallions.

IMHR is proud to announce that Andrew Wishart - the extremely talented star of X-Factor will be joining us in Tamworth for a fantastic night of fun and dancing.

The parade will commence on completion of the classes on the first day of the show (Wednesday). Entry to the Stallion Parade is free and each stallion may be given up to 5 minutes parade time (to be determined once entries have been received). The stallion must be paraded in the main arena at the scheduled time. Progeny of the stallion are also permitted to be showcased in the arena with the stallion. Owners are to provide a ‘bio’ of the stallion to be read by the announcer during the parade and should include such items as show results of note, progeny show results etc.. Advertising of progeny for sale and/or stud fee promotion is permitted. The distribution of literature and/or promotional items during the parade is also encouraged. Stallions must be registered IMHR Inc. and aged 3 years and over to parade. Application to be part of the parade must be noted on the entry form. No late entries to the stallion parade are permitted.

Three Day Event

32

Three Day Event To be held over three days as part of the 2012 National Show. The rules/point system is based on Equestrian Australia (formerly EFA) rules adjusted for miniature horses. Open to senior horses only - mares, geldings and stallions aged 3 years and over (actual age).

Equipment

Competitors must be aged 13 or over on the first day of the event.

Dressage Phase Marks are allocated for presentation. It is recommended that horses complete the dressage test in a leather or webbing halter and brow-bands may be worn.

$500 First Prize

No bits or whips are to be used in any of the three phases.

How it works Eventing is a test of your horse’s fitness, athleticism, stamina and obedience. It consists of three phases: 1 x Dressage In Hand test 1 x Show Jumping round 1 x Cross country/Obstacle course

Halters must sit flat against the horse’s nose - no buckles/knots are to rest on the horse’s noseband.

The winner is the competitor with the highest total score across all three components.

The horse may have its mane and tail braided.

Each individual competitor may enter only one horse. The same combination of horse and handler will complete all three phases once only – so choose your best horse ! The horse must be handled by the same competitor for each of the three (3) phases. As the Show Jumping phase will be held as part of the standard Show Jumping class (performance program), horses that are also entered in Show Jumping may be handled by a different person for second and subsequent rounds of Show Jumping only. State of Origin – the challenge is on ! As part of the IMHR inaugural Three Day Event, a perpetual state-based trophy will be awarded. The results of the three highest scoring horses from each state (state of current residence of horse) will be totalled to determine the winning state.

Rope halters must not be used. No leg bandages in dressage.

Handlers may choose between western or English attire however all handlers must wear safe, covered footwear AND gloves. Hats are optional. Cross Country/Obstacle & Show Jumping Normal performance gear and handler attire may be used. Leg bandages/ bell boots may be worn. Download the full Three Day Event information booklet from the IMHR website. One Entry Fee – Three Events One entry fee covers all three events for the Three Day Event however as only the first round of Show Jumping is included any exhibitor wanting to continue in the National Champion Show Jumping class must pay the fee for that event.

Travel Tips For Your Horses Article courtesy of Dr John Kohnke from ‘Health Care and problems of Horses, 9th edition’ published by Virbac-Vetsearch.

1. Always ensure that horses are cooled down, and given a drink before long distance travel. In very tired, dehydrated or stressed horses, long distance travel of over 12 hours duration should be delayed until they recover, preferably at least overnight. 2. Ensure ventilation is sufficient to keep air flowing without causing chills. An adequate rate of air change is important in large transports carrying a number of horses over long distances. 3. Provide dampened feed or pellets to reduce dust and airborne contamination. Lightly dampen hay, in particular, by wrapping a biscuit of hay in a wet chaff bag for 2-4 hours to reduce dust and other airborne contamination. This will increase palatability of hay and provide additional moisture during long trips. Locate feeders below chest bar height. 4. Do not tie the head too short - give the horse as much space as possible to feel comfortable and be able to put its head down. Stallion dividers may be required to prevent horses squabbling during transport.

6. Ensure the trailer is in good condition and level on the towbar. Drive steadily and smoothly. Keep the back flap down to reduce intake of swirling dust on dirt roads. 7. Stop every 3-4 hours and open the trailer doors. If possible, unload and allow the horse(s) to walk around, or preferably graze or feed with the head down for at least 15-20 minutes. Provide access to drinking water at rest stops. A 60ml dose of Recharge over the tongue will replace electrolytes and stimulate drinking. 8. If a horse has competed or raced hard, give it a day off after a long trip. Turning the horse into a grassy green paddock to graze with its head down for a few hours, or putting dampened feed in a bin at floor level, will encourage drainage of the respiratory system. 9. After travelling a horse over a long distance, keep a careful watch for loss of appetite, depression, fever and obvious discomfort for the first few days. It is a good idea to monitor the horse's temperature morning and night for at least 3 days after long trips, and seek vet advice if the temperature is elevated (the normal body temperature of an adult horse is 36.5-38.5°C).

5. Avoid transporting horses suffering from respiratory disease. If a horse has symptoms, do not transport it as it may infect others during the trip.
