everyone wants to be successful. But what does success really take? Ask 30 people how they became successful and you’ll get 30 different answers. So that’s

what we’ve done for our tenth edition of I’m Here With – we asked 30 interesting Canadian rising stars for their ‘sage advice’ on how to become successful to inspire our readers

In this issue, we’ve also decided to change things up by adding a new Faith Based, Wellness and Mental Health section with our recurring Music Matters spotlight section, since our premier publication in 2016.

One of the biggest changes has been our ability to expand our editorial and production team, since our From the Hart Issue with Bret ‘the Hitman’ Hart and Lesia Tyara Bear in 2019-2020.

Bret is a Canadian legend and best known for his worldwide wrestling championship success and now his new Hitman's Bar and Canadian Walk of Fame Star, and much more in this last two years Bret inspired our portrait spread by Kevin Stenhouse Photography for, Sage Advice We first met Mr. Hart at the Field of Dreams event back in the summer of 2019, courtesy of Angie Shilliday and Jeff Wilkie.

On our covers for this 12th issue is the beloved Calgary Film Commissioner Luke Azevedo, and The Calgary Stampede CEO and President. Both were photographed by Darren Ballingall at our studio in Calgary in May, 2023.

One of the hallmarks of I’m Here With Magazine is our photographs. To present you with elegant pictures we need not only interesting subjects, but also talented photographers with extraordinary vision. Lucky for us, we have them! Calgary’s own Darren Ballingall is behind the lense for our portrait spreads

For the last five issues we have been featuring the works of Darren Ballingall, Katherine Calnan, Andras Schram and Michael Scott Vincent and CBC PR.

Print copies are available at Indigo and Chapters Nationally. Also local in Calgay at the 17th Ave SW's Daily Globe News Shop and Hidden Gems locations in Calgary and Okotoks. Full stories about the artists in our pages will be on our website, and podcast show on imherewithmag.com.

Our premier issue with cover star Benjamin Ross Hayden, Zulie Alnahas, the late Calgary actor Allan Stickel and CIFF since 2013, is what started it all for us to help the Film & TV community.

For our next issue, we will be expanding distribution and including more Vancouver and Toronto talent, to ‘uncover and discover’ more amazing new rising stars. We are very fortunate to engage the services of our Vancouver/Okanagan team and photographer Gunnar Xavier In Toronto we have the support of CBC, The Taro Group, Shaftesbury and Penelope PR and more.

We met Angelina back in April of 2022 all supporting our May cover star Quinn Teechma with Nav Khiljie, before her big Miss Universe Canada pageant. We made quick friends with the smart charismatic and serious Marketing and Agent CEO. She attended 9 issue's event at Aura YYC, with Leah Vergara by Armand M. Flores and Kevin Costner by Darren Ballingall as the covers. We then had her on our 10 cover.

Angelina being her open minded self, she felt there is a need for musicians to be featured more in the media and magazines in Calgary. Through many conversation, she shared how she could help bring her talent to our pages. Her clients rely on her to help them as her Talent Manager to be seen and create content for them. Angelina felt working with a print magazine like ours had value.

We hope you enjoy the inspired: The Power of Calgary and Alberta edition by I'm Here With Thank you to Luke Azevedo, Angelina Payne and the CCMA's for their support in helping showcase their artists with us for you in our 9th - 12th issue. Follow our stars' social media daily and ours for, more updates coming out this new year!

Canadian Icon Nathaniel Arcand

Nathaniel Arcand Ceo of Stunt Nations and plays Don in The Birds Who Fear Death

Nathaniel Arcand is a talented actor known for his roles in North of 60, FBI Most Wanted and playing Scott Cardinal on the CBC series Heartland. That is only a few of the giant list of television and film roles he has amassed in almost 30 + years of acting.

Photographer Darren Ballingall shared on social media; Nathaniel is also just a great dude. Humble, smart and funny, we had some great conversations and laughs on a drive out to Canmore and I am always happy when I run into him at events around the city. I have met a lot of great people over the last year through doing portraits and he is easily one of my favorite people to have met in that time.

We are looking forward to his upcoming film The Birds Who Fear Death and just recently watched another of his films Portraits From a Fire witch I highly recommend. We got these shots in that parkade and swipe for BTS of what it looked like without lighting.

WITH DEEP SADNESS WE SHARE THE NEWS OF HOUSTON STEVENSON, THE BELOVED 27 YEAR OLD, INTERRED INTO REST IN WEST VANCOUVER, BC ON JULY 5, 2022, BY HOLLYBURN FUNERAL HOME & HIS LOVING FAMILY.

“WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR OWN STORIES OF HOPE, HEALING, AND RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF LOSS... anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. We understand that sharing your story can be difficult, so we want to assure you that we will protect your anonymity and confidentiality. If you choose to share your story, please consider including the following information: We also welcome stories of inspiration and hope. HOUSTONSTEVENSON.COM

To all that are here, first and foremost we thank you for taking the time to view this website, created after the life shattering devastation we have endured as a family, which has changed our existence forever

In the very early morning hours of July 5, 2022 we got the call that no human on the face of the earth wants to receive, especially a parent. Houston was no longer with us. He was only 27.

Our mission is to create a safe and supportive space for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and thoughts of suicide.

Through our website, we aim to provide resources, education, and inspiration to empower individuals,

to take control of their mental health and find hope for a brighter future.

We will continue to honour the legacy of Houston, by dedicating ourselves to helping those who are suffering, and strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those who are struggling with mental health.

We are in no way giving professional advice, we are simply and humbly sharing our story in hope to help even one human being keep breathing. Because life is worth living.

Thank you for your willingness to share your stories as well, with much love and heavy hearts >

IN MEMORY

›› Lovingly remembered by his parents, his Siblings: Jhordan, Charis, Remington, Charley, Theo, Victoria, and Adrien. Special thanks for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers from around the world.

Jhordan Stevenson is Houston’s older brother by six and a half years. As Houston grew older, the age gap disappeared between them. They became men and did everything together. Houston looked up to Jhordan. They loved each other very much and shared a deep brotherly bond. Ronnie, Russell, Jhordan, and Houston were a pack. A strong pack! Then came Charley and Remy, Houston’s younger sisters. When they were born, the 6 of them became an unbreakable circle, no beginning and no ending.

Houston was so proud of his sister Charley, the youngest sibling, who is now 16. He acted like more than a big brother. In some ways like a parent, wanting to teach her right from wrong. He was very protective of both his mom and his sister. Remington and Victoria, Houston’s other two sisters, were exceptionally close to Houston as well.

Sister Charis and brother Theo live in London, England. He loved them so very much, traveling the globe and growing up much of his childhood in London. Houston’s bond with Charis was also more on a spiritual level, they would talk for hours about life, thoughts, and ideas.

Houston also has a heartfelt ‘adopted brother’ Adrien, who Ronnie has taken under her wing since he and Houston were in grade 4 together at Collingwood school in West Vancouver. They have been best friends ever since. They were extremely close. Adrien often mentored Houston and taught him the business side of making movies, as Houston was more artistic. As the years moved on, Houston and Jhordan welcomed Adrien into their lives and family as their brother.

Houston spent a lot of time traveling the world with his father David and step-mom Grainne Stevenson, who live between London and Spain. They are both absolutely devastated and are trying to make sense of Houston’s untimely passing. Houston and Jhordan grew up spending an enormous amount of time in London with David, Grainne, Charis, and Theo. David & Grainne remember many fond memories of Houston traveling to the South of France every summer and the English countryside.

And lastly, Houston’s father Russell Negus raised Houston from the tender age of 4 years old. Russell, Jhordan, and Houston were beyond close and inseparable. The three of them did everything together. If you saw Russell, you would always see him with one or both of his sons. Russell loved Houston more than absolutely everything! He often would say Houston has so much talent. He could not wait to be on the red carpet with him when he received his first Academy Award. After speaking to Russell, he said Houston will live in his heart forever, and there will never be a day that goes by that he does not think about or miss his son. In his passing Russell, David, Jhordan, and Adrien have vowed to make a movie about Houston, to honour his memory and legacy forever.

It is unfathomable to Ronnie and the family that Houston is no longer present in their lives. For those of us who believe, Houston will be reborn to us in spirit and exist in all things generous, creative, loving, and beautiful. This is how he saw the world. Everything was possible. Only one’s imagination could get in the way of living their dream.

Houston is with us now as we gather to celebrate his extraordinary life. He would want us to carry on, live life to the fullest, and cherish every moment of every day. He would want his family and friends to carry on his legacy, and remember the wonderful moments and times spent together.

In loving memory of my extraordinary friend,

CANADIAN ICON Q & A WITH RONNIE STEVENSON

RONNIE HOLLY STEVENSON

the beautiful former "Real Housewives of Vancouver" star opens up about, the devastating loss of her 27 year old son Houston. She and her family have started the Houston Stevenson Legacy Foundation in his honor to help others.

IHW: What was your dream as a child to achieve in your life?

R: When I graduated I wanted to go into Law or medicine and become a surgeon, I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was top 5% of my graduating class and In the Who’s who of American high school students grades 11 and 12who would have ever known!

IHW: Where are now with your're dreams?

R: I’m trying to keep putting one foot in front of the other - I’m trying to navigate a life with out our beloved Houston, I don’t know what that looks like, or how I’m going to do it, but I have other children that need me and that I must keep living for - I have been nearly comatose and numb for 6 months since we lost him, The pain has been absolutely severe! I feel when Houston died I died with him, I don’t aspire for stardom I do not aspire to be on any new reality TV show, all I ever aspired for, my dream was to live a life with my husband and children, to love one another, keep my children close, travel and explore the world, keeping everyone happy and healthy. I spent a huge amount of time with Houston and managing his acting career, since he’s been gone there is such a big hole and void in all of our lives. My children are my very best friends! I'm not looking to have some major career, I'm just looking for a peaceful happy life, I’m quite a simple person at the end of the day.

IHW: What do you want to be known for?

R: First and foremost, whenever anyone tells me what a good mother I am, it is the biggest complement I could receive, I was 20 years old when I gave birth to my oldest son Jhordan. I’ve known nothing else than being a mother, and I’ve loved absolutely nothing more! Losing Houston has been paramount! Life shattering and has left me absolutely destroyed, my mission now is to go out into the world save lives and make a difference - and I know Houston will be with me every step of the way.

IHW:Canyoutellusaboutyourfirststeps instarting your career?

R: I’ve been a mother first and foremost and I think it’s the most integral career a woman will ever have. As for our business The Hillcore Group, unbeknownst to some who think all “housewives” have married into for money, my husband rented a house had an older Denali and was struggling financially when I met him. I married him because I fell in love - we built everything together from ground zero, 24 years later I’d say we have done A-ok!

LEADERS OF TOMORROW IN CALGARY WITH HER WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

Pushing Herself To Her Limits Is Something Stephanie Has Always Done

Stephanie is a sports therapist with a passion for helping others succeed. As a former national athlete herself, she works with Olympic, Paralympic, and other top-tier athletes in order to help them achieve their full potential. Whether it is through her work with athletes or her online social media presence, Stephanie is always looking for ways to empower those around her.

Stephanie has been a Fitness model for the last four years with a passion for fitness that has never faded. She also practices as a sports therapist with the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic teams. Recently she has signed with the professional swim league Toronto Titans as their therapist.

Stephanie shared in her words to inspire others: "My life mission is to empower women. I believe that, more than ever, we need to be lifting each other up."

Over the course of Stephanie's own journey, she has become a voice for women and girls who have faced similar challenges in life. Whether it’s self-esteem issues, abuse, or anything else, she wants to show them that there is light at the end of the tunnel. In doing so, she hopes to inspire future generations to be their best selves.

"One important component of this empowerment process is children. Our kids’ perception of their mothers and other adult females has a profound impact on our society. Therefore, it’s crucial that young people are raised with a positive image of women. If we can show that we are strong and deserving of respect, then we can help make the world a better place for everyone.

When you go beyond your limits, you empower not only yourself but also those who come after you. Nobody else knows what you’re capable of, so don’t be afraid to push the boundaries of what others believe is possible for you.

We are capable of so much more than we think, and it’s time to start believing that.

Having competed at national levels for swimming, soccer, and golf, I know the importance of being able to perform at your best when it matters most. It was this drive that contributed to my career as a sports therapist, and I now use my knowledge to help others achieve their own goals.

After my diagnosis, my doctor said I’d never achieve my full potential in sports. From my initial diagnosis all the way up until university, I remember the same doctor telling me, year after year that I would never be able to truly succeed in sports because of my condition.

When you hear someone tell you something like that, there are only two options: accept it, or prove them wrong. I decided to go with the latter. I wish somebody had told me about the Paralympics back then because that is where I would have found my competitive outlet. Unfortunately, I only learned about the Paralympics much later in life as they became more mainstream so I never had the chance to compete.

I tried to get back into swimming, but it wasn’t easy. I got good but not as good as I once was, so I decided to transition my focus to another area. I signed up for a fitness contest and, to my surprise, I won. This sparked a whole new chapter in my life where I began fitness modeling and started to use Instagram as a platform to inspire others while working as a sports therapist." S.C.

See her speak at @awomanaday @stand.asa's event March 11th, in Calgary.

“When you’re a very bright, high vibrational soul, you will be targeted by people, thoughts or circumstances that will try to convince you that you are just like them, low vibrational. Don’t ever believe them! Keep shedding your skin! Take any and every single risk; leave that job, leave that partner, leave that group of friends, leave that mindset… leave it all.

WHO INSPIRES YOU?

Musicians, my wife and kids. Anyone with an honest and inspired way of playing/writing/performing etc. I run into many situations where people want to mimic something that has already been successful, but I prefer the ones who listen to their muse rather than public opinion and what’s popular. Working with Art Bergmann and Jann Arden has been incredibly inspiring, as they have a large and successful legacy that they have created, but are always pushing forward to find something neut

WHAT QUALITIES MAKE A GREAT MUSICIAN?

Humility, grace, and the ability to listen to what is going on around you and contribute something to it, rather than take it over and make it about themselves

WHAT WAS YOUR DREAM AS A KID TO BECOME?

My father passed away when I was 19, and that experience gave me the perspective to follow my heart and dreams of being a professional musician, as our time here is shorter than we think it will be.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PLAY GUITAR?

Music always affected me emotionally in a way that made me feel like I wasn’t alone. My goal has always been to create music that could make other people feel the same way

ALEXA COUNTRY PARTY

What was being at the CCMA's like in Calgary?

Amazing! It was my first time there, and everyone was so friendly. I was grateful for the free transportation which saved me a lot of time and money. Funny story, I had just purchased a new 6ft banner specifically for this event. I went through airport security, travelling and dragged it across town, got all set up for Media Row the next morning, only to realize I had left it back at my hotel. SMH!! Thankfully, my assistant was able to get in back in time for the majority of the interviews.

CCMA ARTISTS

FLAYSHER

Alberta-based brothers and Musicians.

Mélanie Vautour - Highway 79 Music Business Services.

Based on the last name of two ‘born and raised’ Albertan brothers, Flaysher is a CMAB Awardnominated Canadian country duo and Top 12 finalist in Alberta Music's 2021/2022 PROJECT WILD competition. They have grit in their ood harmonies and unvarnished truths in their lyrics. Inspired by the storytelling in 90s country and the high-octane energy of heartland rock classics, Flaysher’s songs are rooted in the influence of their upbringing. Raised in small-town Airdrie, you can almost hear the sawdust in their voices from growing up on dusty job sites working for the family business.

TommyCharles

Vancouver- based classic country star. Label -Crank Music.

Tommy Charles is bringing a classic touch to Country with a soulful tone in his new single, “Last Country Bar”. The tune will throw listeners back to a “Golden Era”, while carrying sounds reminiscent of Alan Jackson. Written by some of Nashville’s finest songsmiths, Kelly Anne Archer (Jason Aldean, Brett Young) Steven Moakler (Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen) & Mark Trussell (Jacob Banks, Blake Shelton) This follows up his lead single “Lookin’ Like That”; Both songs produced by Mitch Merrett. Born in the Montréal area and recently calling the Nashville of the north (Calgary) home, Tommy appeared on the hit TV show, “La Voix” (The Voice). New tour dates are now announced for the Fall of 2022. on November 8th, 2022 on digital music stores.

Mélanie Vautour - Highway 79 Music Business Services

Since 2014, ANNIKA has powerfully engaged and entertained audiences around the world as part of the CCMAnominated 'Leaving Thomas' duo, and now, as a highly anticipated solo artist. ANNIKA has taken a new musical direction since moving on from the country-pop duo by releasing her first solo project, Stand Still. The project is a departure from her previous work and showcases a more mature, introspective ANNIKA, highlighting her talents as amusician, specifically as a pianist. The project will be broken down into two EPs and one deluxe album. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and inspired by artists such as Elton John, Carole King and Alicia Keys, ANNIKA’s new sound combines her love of country songwriting with heartfelt piano playing and melodic vocals. Stand Still: Side A showcases a sensitive side to ANNIKA through songs such as "It Still Hurts" and "Encore" while also still highlighting her lively spirit through upbeat, toe-tapping, jams like "The Death of Me" and "I Really Don't Want To." The one variable that is constant from start to finish is ANNIKA's powerful vocals.

KYLE MCKEARNEY

CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC STAR

Kyle McKearney is Canada’s biggest breakthrough independent roots artist of 2022. His debut album “Down-Home” has already garnered over 1.3+ million streams globally and has been nominated for 14x awards in a year. Kyle put his name on the map when he placed 2nd in Alberta Music’s prestigious “Project Wild” artist development program, awarding him $75,000 towards his career. Since then, he has taken this momentum on the road to perform with names like: The Black Crowes, Kip Moore, Dean Brody, George Canyon, Brett Kissel, Terri Clark, Our Lady Peace, High Valley and many more, all across Canada.

Born and raised in small-town northern British Columbia, Kyle McKearney grew up immersed in Country and Bluegrass music. He followed that passion by first moving to Nashville upon finishing high school, where he absorbed music city’s atmosphere. He made his way back to Canada where he started to truly focus on his career in music. After several musical projects Kyle then returned to his Americana roots and wrote / co-produced his debut album “Down-Home”.

Kyle is truly paving a way for the Americana / Alt-Country genres in Canada and beyond. The momentum from his first record is taking him and the band to AmericanaFest in both the USA and the UK later this year. Kyle will be continuously releasing music throughout this year from his highly anticipated sophomore album. - Jeff Ojeda

Stepping onto the stage each week as host of Canada’s Got Talent, Citytv’s most-viewed original series in over a decade, award-winning musician Lindsay Ell is back with the release of her first single of 2023, “Sweet Spot.” Confidently pushing her into her next chapter of music, “Sweet Spot” delivers an upbeat reminder that the rollercoaster of life eventually leads everyone to exactly where they need to be — their very own sweet spot.

“Growing up, I learned how to ‘ride the wave’ of life most successfully by floating in the middle of the highs and lows but now I think that both pain and success give us beautiful perspectives on how to learn from our experiences and be grateful for what we have,” said Ell. “The sweet spot is something you can only find when you’ve been on both sides of it and that wouldn’t be possible without the constant ping-pong of life. I hope this song brings some levity — and a little dance party — to those currently making their way through these unpredictable highs and lows.”

A POWERFUL FILM BY SANJAY PATEL OF DIM LIGHT PICTURES .MOVIE EXCLUSIVE: THE BIRDS WHO FEAR DEATH - Two brothers, disinherited and desperate for cash, journey into the Canadian wilds to find themselves, their people and their fortune.

The Canadian film stars Adam Beach, Simon Baker, Nathaniel Arcand, Carmen Moore and more. Disconnection from the natural world and each other is at the heart of human misery. We spend our lives apart from each other, working all too often in exchange for money that is attached to some kind of planetary destruction. We are left with scraps for family, friends, art, culture and deep impact and connection with wilderness generally comes last. Yet these are the things that bring us joy, contentment and meaning.

J: What was your dream as a child to achieve in your life?

D: The earliest dream I remember having as a child was to one day own a car that was shaped like a banana. I thought it would be a cool looking car and It might even get my picture in the paper, which seemed like a worthy ambition. Fast forward to today - I have a 10 year old Jetta, but I’ve had my picture in the paper. Win some, lose some.

CANADIAN ICON Q & A with DAVE KELLY

J: What makes a working friendship last like you and Jim Button have?

D: I like Jim. I’ve always liked Jim. I know friendships can take work and all that, but for me, the basis is always “do I like this guy?” Jim has always been fun, always been kind, always had really interesting people around him who were all doing interesting things. Who wouldn’t want to be around someone like that?

J: Share an encouraging quote from you to the imherewithmag.com fans about achieving your dreams.

D: My Dad was a tradesperson in construction. He used to say, “If you are a jack of all trades and a master of none… do you know what people will remember? That you were a master of none. So get good at something.” It sounds harsh when you read it - but it wasn’t. He was just telling me that being good at something is worth it. I try to be good at what I do because doing something well is the most satisfying feeling I know.

J: Tell us the story of when you first took steps to start your dreams and career. How did it happen?

D: With almost everything I’ve done, nothing has been part of a major plan, everything started with the simple notion of “this seems like it would be fun.” I’ve taught emotionally and academically challenged junior high boys and loved it. I taught Language Arts on television for an educational TV show. I studied to be a musical theatre actor and ended up tap dancing with Mickey Rooney on stage in Toronto.I hosted a morning show for over a decade. I’ve written and performed three one man shows. I hosted and wrote a live theatre Dave Kelly Live with my friends including Jim Button for over 25 shows. I’ve started a production company with my brother Rob. I went on a cross Canada arena tour with Ellen Degeneres doing hour conversations for arenas full of her fans. If there were any “steps” to this life, they are the most stumbly, roundabout steps of any life I know that all started with “This should be fun, right?!”

Can you share your experiences working on the "Star Trek: Picard" series, and what it was like being part of such a beloved franchise?

Working on Picard, is, as you can imagine, an honor. When Terry Matalas called me to tell me that he had created a part for me in season three, told me about the role and who I’d be working with I was spun. To be trusted with being part of carrying a legacy forward, one that is beloved to millions (myself included) was not lost on me. The actual job, day to day, was similar to any other acting job. You learn your lines, you go to wardrobe, you show up, work with wonderful people, hopefully bring your best work. And then do it again the next day. The fact that all of that happened on MY Starship and with those people was extraordinary. And as surreal as it all may have seemed, it also felt like a homecoming. I was welcomed into the family like I’d been there for years. Getting to add a new character to this beloved franchise was a treat. Ideally create something that folks hadn’t seen before. I was fortunate that I was given great scripts from the writers and then a lot of space to explore the role from the directors. To feel trusted on set is no small thing. Plus I got to shoot phasers and sit in the captains chair, which doesn’t suck.

J: I was really impressed with how down to earth Emmanuel is with her approach to acting and the discipline and drive you had. My question is: Where did these habits form? It's very impressive what you've accomplished, but the foundations of that is you. Where did you learn that resiliency and perseverance?

E:My parents did the best they could with what they had. From a young age, if I wanted something, I had to find a way to make it happen for myself. Growing up, my dad instilled in me that I can be, do and have anything that I want in life, no matter what my circumstances, as long as I believe I can. That has stayed with me and is at the core of what continues to drive me.

She shines as much in real life as she does on film. She is currently prepping for a project slated to shoot in the coming weeks.

Emmanuelle balances her film and television commitments with her charity Fluffball, her two dogs Jack and Bella, and her horse Bunny. You can keep up with Emmanuelle by following her on Instagram.com/ EmmanuelleVaugier.

In our interview with Emmanuelle for I'm Here With, which is now on our podcast and youtube pages, her mindset and approach to life and her approach to dreams came up.

J: Do you feel you made it? I hear success often never looks like what it seems to, but you've accomplished some incredible things. What pushes you at this point?

E: With each accomplishment comes a new goal. I am proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the experiences I’ve had so far, but I definitely feel I have so much more to explore and strive for, both in my career and personal life.

J: Anyone you feel like you think helped you along the way?

E: I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of those that have helped me along the way. I certainly didn’t get here alone

J: Is there a kind of role you haven't done in your career that you want to at this point?

E: I would love to do more film and TV projects that involve riding horses! That would be the ultimate combo of my personal and work passions! I would be complete!

What is your social media handel?

I was invited to star in a 48 hr film fest in 2007. The next year I directed my own team (neither film won of course lol), and I've been going bigger and better with my films ever since, getting finer locations, recruiting volumes of talented actors, developing budgets, raising the money, building an awesome crew, learning how to tell tighter and more engaging stories, creating deeper and more nuanced characters, and now finding ways to make sure that everyone's work gets the exposure it deserves!

Jason was born and raised in Edmundston, NB, Canada. After obtaining his BSc from l'Université de Moncton, he went on to earn his MBA, spending an internship inTunisia.

Self-taught in all areas, over the years, he has built careers as an actor, writer, photographer, singer-songwriter and as of late Nov 2020, visual artist.

What was your dream as a child to achieve in your life?

To become and actor/singer. I wanted to be Dorathy from The Wizzard of Oz in real life, and click my heels and find my birth family in Romania. The Sound of Music was also a movie that I felt related to, even though I didn't grow up with all of my 12 siblings.

My birth family (Mateas and Banu) all reunited after twenty-nine years, it changed my life. Being adopted was my second chance to thrive and help others.

“TheGOOD||TheBAD||&TheUGLY

THE GOOD: I was able to tap into a type of discipline I haven't yet experienced. I worked hard on myself, both good and bad qualities. I learned a lot, I felt a lot, and I overcame a lot. For the first time in my life. I can look in the mirror and look at the people around me and say I'm genuinely proud. So many blessings took place, and I haven't even shared them with you yet.

I worked relentlessly on delivering a product to you guys that will hit harder and top anything I've done thus far. Quality, visuals, and audio will up the anti in every record.

I am currently sitting on an arsenal to deploy for everyone in 2023.

THE BAD: I wasn't able to meet my own deadlines, bit off more than I could chew, and ran into issues with my first release of the year. Which inevitably set me back in a way I never could have seen coming. Only 3 tracks and 1 music video this year just wasn't enough.

THE UGLY: Well, that's forever.”

Everything Ben creates contains great depth, and he enjoys planting hidden gems that will have you taking a double look. We can’t help but hold the utmost respect for not only his art but also his strategies. We strongly encourage our readers to follow Ben’s artistic growth on his social pages and stream his latest releases ‘Everybody’, ‘Huh’, and ‘Coo Coo’ on Spotify - UGLY UNITED.

Watching this thing grow has certainly been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I sacrificed more than I care to admit. I literally gave up or, in return, lost everything I never thought I would. For the first 25 years of my life. Everything I believed it to be came to a screeching halt.

However, I found myself. The changes can take place in our lives by simply believing in ourselves. While having a solid support system, a couple of good friends, and a goal to achieve is nothing short of beautiful. Not having it is detrimental.

In 2023, Luke was elected to the Board of Directors of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), a global consortium of over 300 film commissions across six continents. As one of 10 board members, Luke is the sole city commissioner among country, region, and state commissions. In addition, Luke has been awarded the Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal by the Province of Alberta, recognizing his work and dedication towards elevating not only Calgary, but Alberta’s, reputation as a global production center for the Creative Economy and for content creators of all platforms and genres.

Jill Maria: "Oh, my goodness. Here we are. We're here today with one of Calgary's influential VP’s. I'm Jill Maria and I'm thrilled to introduce our newest cover star for Chapters/Indigo/Coles, Luke Azevedo. He is Calgary’s Film Commissioner and Vice President, Creative Industries and Operations at Calgary Economic Development. The Province’s recent announcement in the 2023 budget of an investment of a staggering 335 million into the film and television tax credit has sparked excitement and created a surge in job opportunities. Today, we sit down with Luke to learn more about the film industry in Calgary and what is currently unfolding."

Luke Azevedo: "Well, the film and TV industry in Alberta has a rich history spanning over a hundred years. We have experienced ups and downs throughout the years, but our commitment to quality work, authentic relationships and the exceptional talent within our industry have consistently produced award-winning projects.

Jill Maria: Alberta has produced and been a part of classics like 'Unforgiven', 'Cool Runnings', and 'Dr. Zhivago', 'The Assassination of Jesse James', 'The Revenant', 'Interstellar', 'Hell On Wheels', to more recent successes like 'The Last of Us', 'Joe Pickett", 'The Root of The Problem', 'Everfall', and 'Under the Banner of Heaven,' 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife', 'Letem Go', 'Consume short', 'Game of Thrones', 'Hot Box', 'In The Jumpseat With Jacqueline', 'This is Your Story', 'A Teacher', Jimmy The Bear Documentary, 'Creepy Pasta Anthology',' 'Dark Nature, 'February's Dog', 'Land', 'Left Behind', 'Ride', 'Push' on CBC, and most recently the Netflix series 'Wind River'

Luke: Alberta has established itself as a preferred global destination. With the Provincial government investment, we have not only become nationally competitive but also an international destination of choice. This means the province can actively pursue any size project with the potential to come to Alberta and showcase the remarkable quality of work we can offer."

Luke continues, "My role is to create relationships with studios, streamers, and independent producers worldwide, leveraging the diverse assets and advantages of our region, as well as support our local production community.

In recent years, it has become increasingly less difficult to attract projects due to the recognition we have garnered. >

10 MINUTES WITH

Alberta has always been an excellent place for film and television production, but our global reputation has significantly improved, positioning us as a prime location of choice for filmmakers and storytellers. Calgary was also selected as the 8th best place in North America to live and work as a Filmmaker. This speaks volumes about the local content creators, who play an important role in the development of the sector and create amazing Alberta stories that get national and international recognition.

Jill interjects, expressing admiration for Luke's contributions: "Luke, we believe your instrumental role has played a significant part in this industry's growth. Your kindness, inclusivity, and approachability have made an indelible impression on everyone you encounter. People within the industry consistently praise your character and how welcoming you are, even to industry members, you may not directly work with. Having you here today discussing the film industry and how individuals can participate is a testament to the type of leader we have. Calgary Economic Development has treated us exceptionally well, including your team. It's crucial to showcase the people behind Alberta's success, not just its financial achievements."

Luke responds with humility, acknowledging the importance of collaboration and the positive atmosphere within the Alberta film community. This a community of Talented individuals who genuinely care about one another. Nurturing an inclusive and supportive environment is essential for the industry's growth. Alberta has so much to offer, and it's not just about our thriving economy or the incredible projects being produced. It's about the people who make it all happen. We take pride in our collective achievements, and it's an honor to be a part of such a dynamic and passionate community."

As the interview continues, Luke delves into the strategies implemented to ensure Alberta's global competitiveness. He emphasizes the importance of a competitive incentive program that complements the province's existing assets. By removing the $10 million per project cap on the film tax credit, Alberta became an even more attractive destination for large budget productions. Luke highlights the growth of the crew base and the development of infrastructure to support the industry. He explains, there is a large investment in the development of talent and fostering their growth. Training programs offered by Alberta unions, guilds, and post-secondary institutions including micro-credentialing programs, are equipping individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in the industry. Additionally, the focus on infrastructure has been instrumental in attracting production to the region.

"We have seen significant growth in studio space, with facilities like the Calgary Film Centre, William F White studios, and purpose-built stages at Rocky Mountain Film Studios. These developments have transformed our environment and positioned us as a top destination for filmmakers." >

Jill, impressed by Luke's insights, adds, "Luke, your vision and efforts have not only made the industry more accessible but have also challenged the notion that industry leaders are unapproachable. Many aspiring individuals, especially those in background or crew roles, may feel intimidated, believing they could never approach industry leaders like yourself. However, you have shown us time and again that you are here to develop and nurture the growth of the industry. Your willingness to engage and support even smaller initiatives, like our magazine, speaks volumes about your commitment to invigorating the industry and creating opportunities for everyone. You have inspired us to believe that there is a place for all of us in this industry."

Luke appreciates Jill's words and acknowledges, "It's essential for us to support one another, Together, we can cultivate and grow an industry that is inclusive, diverse, and welcoming. It's not about one person or one organization; it's about the collective effort of the thousands involved in the Creative Economy. I encourage individuals to educate themselves, get involved, and seize opportunities. The path to being a part of this vibrant industry is more accessible than many may realize. By fostering a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and active engagement, we can contribute to the continued growth and success of Alberta's film industry."

In conclusion, Luke Azevedo's visionary leadership and inclusive approach have been instrumental in helping shape Alberta's thriving Screen industries. With a focus on global competitiveness, talent development, and infrastructure expansion, Alberta has become a sought-after destination for filmmakers, studios and streamers. Luke's commitment to accessibility and support has shattered misconceptions about industry leaders, inspiring individuals from all backgrounds to pursue their dreams in the Creative industries. By fostering a culture of inclusivity, learning, and active involvement, Alberta's creative sector continues to thrive and invites aspiring individuals to be part of its exciting journey.

CBC announced that its original comedy series Son Of A Critch will be renewed for a third season with filming in Newfoundland beginning this summer. The series is produced by Project 10 Productions Inc. and Take the Shot Productions in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television. Lionsgate handles worldwide distribution rights outside Canada.

This season, SON OF A CRITCH is the most-watched English Canadian comedy series and CBC's most-watched program with 18-49 and 25-54 audiences.* The Season 2 finale aired Tuesday, March 28 at 8:30 p.m. (9 NT) on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service.

Created by Mark Critch (This Hour has 22 Minutes) and Tim McAuliffe (writer/producer of NBC's The Office, FOX's Last Man on Earth and NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon), the series is produced by Schitt’s Creek Emmy® and Golden Globe® winning producer Andrew Barnsley and stars Critch, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Disney's Pinocchio) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange).

Based on comedian Mark Critch’s award-winning, best-selling memoir, Son of a Critch is the hilarious and very real story of 12-year-old Mark coming of age in St. John’s, Newfoundland in the 80s.

"I'm honoured to have such talented people bringing my life story to the screen," says Mark Critch. "It's a joy to start work each day. I'm so happy to see some of their hard work being recognized."

"It was incredible to see the public embrace the show and now we're so excited to see it being renewed for a third season," says Andrew Barnsley, executive producer of Project 10.
