ABOUT IAGE Mission & Vision The mission of Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange is to offer students quality programs and comprehensive support throughout their education abroad experience. Our vision is to foster intercultural competence and inspire global engagement for students by serving as an innovative and collaborative partner.

Office Structure IAGE is divided into three distinct teams: the Education Abroad Team, the Global Engagement Team, and the Business & Systems Team. Our Director oversees all office staff and services, while extending the mission of Illinois International. The Business and Systems team oversees all financial operations, ensures agreement/contract compliance, and maintains

technical systems. The Education Abroad team oversees day-to-day operations, conducts general office administration, and manages our program portfolio. Finally, the Global Engagement team provides expertise in partner relations, exchange program management, diversity/inclusion initiatives, and marketing.

CAMPUS LANDSCAPE Our Philosophy Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange (IAGE), the campus study abroad office, facilitates education abroad programs in locations around the world. As the campus study abroad office, our programs are open to students from all academic fields, backgrounds, and identities. We seek to be inclusive in our approach to study abroad and introduce our students to a multi-faceted understanding of their disciplines and a broader set of tools with which to solve complex problems.

Decentralized Model Study abroad at Illinois operates under a decentralized model, by which a campus office (IAGE) serves the entire campus community and the academic colleges manage college-specific study abroad programs. Collaboration amongst all study abroad offices is a top priority in order to provide the best possible support to Illinois students, faculty, and staff.

Where Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re Going In 2018, the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs appointed a Task Force on Illinois Study Abroad to review study abroad services and programs on campus to further improve the opportunities and experiences we offer Illinois students with consistency and uniformity. The report positions IAGE as a coordinated core services unit with a focus on centralized functions and support structures for academic units. Comprehensive support of Illinois students, faculty, and staff will remain at the forefront of our mission and vision during the upcoming transitions and beyond.

Program Type Enrollment Definitions • Exchange programs involve the reciprocal exchange of students between Illinois and our partner institutions abroad.

• Direct Enroll programs refer to students from Illinois who enroll directly as non-degree seeking international students at our partner institutions abroad.

• Providers are organizations (colleges or universities, nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses, or consortiums) that offer education abroad programs and services to students from a variety of institutions.

• Customized short-term programs are Illinois courses that are led and taught by either Illinois faculty or professional staff. Traditionally, these programs are brief in duration and take place during academic breaks.

Illinois scholarships are awarded based upon level of financial need, academic achievement, and/or status as an underrepresented student.

OFFICE DATA Advising & Resource Center IAGE operates an Advising and Resource Center in order to provide walk-in advising support to prospective participants. The student staff, called Program Assistants, are trained to assist students in choosing a program that aligns with their goals, can answer basic logistic and programmatic questions, and provide insight into the study abroad experience by sharing their own story.

IAGE OUTREACH Reaching Students Across Campus IAGE conducts numerous outreach events throughout the academic year in order to promote the study abroad message to students on campus. This outreach includes IAGE events, co-sponsored events, classroom presentations, RSO presentations, info sessions, tabling events, and more.

Passport Caravan On February 27, 2019 the Council on International Educational Exchangeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s (CIEE) Passport Caravan made a stop at Illinois. The CIEE Passport Caravan sponsors passports for students who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to purchase a passport. This initiative is part of CIEEâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Generation Study Abroad Pledge, which aims to fund 10,000 passports over a six-year period ending in 2020 with an ultimate goal of increasing participation in education abroad.

At Illinois, the Passport Caravan sponsored 167 student passports, with 89% of participants receiving MAP Grants, 88% receiving Pell Grants, 73% being first-generation students, 83% students of color, and 55% being Illinois Promise recipients. IAGE co-facilitated the event with CIEE.

Fall 2018 Spring 2019 Outreach Definitions • First Steps Workshops are presentations for students to learn the the study abroad basics.

• Quad Day is an event held by the Illini Union for students to explore opportunities to become involved in the campus community, including RSOs and administrative/academic campus units.

• Illinois Abroad Day is a campus-wide event organized by IAGE, in which concurrent study abroad fairs are held across campus for students to explore programs and talk to returnees.

• Classroom Presentations are requested by the instructor and range in specificity from a general overview, to more targeted information.

• IAGE Events are those that are organized by us.

• Co-Sponsored Events are collaborations between IAGE and another unit.

• Info Sessions are typically presentations that cover a specific topic, program, or region.

• RSO Presentations are requested by the organization and are tailored to their needs.

INCOMING EXCHANGE Exchange Programs at Illinois Illinois also welcomes hundreds of exchange students to campus every year through reciprocal exchange agreements that study abroad units have with select partner universities, which in turn host Illinois students on their campuses.

Campus Partners & Collaborations IAGE partners with campus units that support students throughout their study abroad experience in areas such as academics, health, finances, and safety. We also serve as a collaborative partner to put on joint programming and events for prospective and current study abroad and exchange students. Additionally, we provide services, such as course integration, class presentations, program development, budget consulting, and data visualizations for units interested in sharing the study abroad message with their students.
