“Beyond simply meeting her unique needs... day after day, they dance with her” ( Hughes, 2017). Attachment is one of the most crucial emotional milestones of early childhood and without a secure attachment relationship a child can remain stuck in their their development, unable to learn and utilize other vital skills such as self-regulation, empathy, independence. As a result, the child is at risk for developing an adaptive attachment style which can cause lifelong social and emotional challenges. Without an attachment-focused lens, caregivers are left feeling hopeless and the child stranded. We must learn the steps to dance together.
