It is a refurbishment work to an existing 23 storey hotel building into a brand new flagship luxury hotel, Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur. Leading the team for coordination with Client, various Consultants (local & International) and the new hotel Operator. Work along side the Director to ensure the brief for spaces, area, room mix, facilities and design intent are met. Prepared diagrammatic studies to ensure the new spaces are feasible with the limit of existing structure. 2 high-end residential towers, 668 units in 47 storeys with multi level facilities and carparks. This development is part of an integrated masterplan development which consist of 5 commercial parcels in one Development Order (D.O) approval inclusive retail lots connected to the residential podium. One of the challenge in this project is to coordinate and resolve all interparcel technical and statutory issues to ensure all road, services connected as a network. Managed to experienced multiple contract packages in 1 development and different construction method such as top-down construction to the basement and podium. A lot of time spent to ensure all detailing works on site at the same time meet client time and cost requirements. Contract value of RM 365mil (superstructure) and RM 220mil (substructure) .

CHILDREN URBAN PLAYSPACE FINAL YEAR DISSERTATION 2011

Sited in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city centre, Chow Kit, this project seeks to challenge the existing purpose of a play-space. It aims to encourage children’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development, whilst evoking sense of place identity, understanding and imagining of their city. The objective of this dissertation is to create play-spaces for children located in the city, situated in a significant way to reveal certain characteristic ‘readings’ of the city as ‘urban lesson’ and act as a platform for them to learn to recognize and transfuse better sense of belonging to the city they live in.

HOUSE OF CHURCH ST, TOWN OF VINCENT, PERTH PRAXIS STUDIO 2011

This project is about intimacy through pockets of various spaces, inspired from close proximity of buildings surrounding a public open space and narrow laneways implied by two buildings in the city. The house imitates the contrast of scale in spaces to create accidental privacy in a public area and allusion of clandestine in a private space. It started with a crack through the site guided by a screen, separating a long and narrow space into small pockets of spaces.

100 UNIT HOUSING, THE THIN CITY STUDIO

A housing complex that merges multiple income households from the rich and the poor to create a cohesive and sustainable community that derived from mapping the physical terrain of the site and visual hierarchy towards the city.

URBAN HOUSING 2010

Social hierarchy are organized through visual view toward the city. Expensive units will get unblock vista towards the city skyline, while moderate units can still enjoy outdoor view through the sides of the city. Using hierarchy of window views to subtly organize as method to discourage community income polarity.

ART & MUSIC CENTRE SUPERBLOCK STUDIO 2009

Sited in the center of heritage area, the studio challenge a new built Art & Music Center that balance the function and cultural preservation. Approach to the design is using principles of classical architecture to respect the surrounding.

A FOLLY IN THE JUNGLE :

Tiny retreat shed in a durian orchard, Raub Pahang

TINY RETREAT HOUSE AT DURIAN ORCHARD, RAUB 2020

Inspired from Bernard Tschumi Park de la Vilatte red follies that were organizedly arranged for an urban park, this tiny retreat house was designed with an idea that it will be a centre point for the Client’s family to explore, play, interact and bond as a family in their durian orchard. A weekly retreat from the city life, the Client desired a space to reminisce his childhood home which was a timber kampung house surrounded by durian trees. This tiny retreat shed consist of an open dining area on ground floor for socializing, a bathroom and single bedroom with wide balcony overlooking the surrounding valley.

Skinny concrete trapezium pillars were to mimic tall durian tress in the surrounding and the slanted top take cues of the form of surrounding hills. It also serve as structure for the swings and climber plants. Other than to shade and filter light, transparent polycarbonate roof over the bedroom door, purposely chosen to create sounds during raining days, as part of the plan to ignite the Client’s childhood memory.

The timber steps, moveable timber louvers and benchtop at the balcony are made from logs of Merbau Kunyit that was found submerged in the orchard areas.
