Scooping smiles since 1935.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Belgian Icecream Group.

We’re proud producers of premium quality ice cream which we commercialize under our brands and private label.

Who are we?

We’re a family-owned business, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit. We value our people, care deeply about our products, and we take responsibility with regard to quality, sustainability and innovation.

What can you expect from us?

We challenge and respond to the market with innovative concepts focusing on a sense of nostalgia, a solution for a healthier lifestyle, a plan towards a more sustainable future and a life full of indulgent surprises.

We organize ourselves in the most efficient way, always with a smile and with the ambition to become better every day. We offer a wide range of shapes (single portions & pralines, extruded & moulded sticks, etc.), a variety of recipes and applications (enriched with fresh cream, vegan, American style, full of different inclusions, toppings, fillings and fruit components, etc.) and make the ice cream creations visually and sensorially attractive. When it comes to packaging, we offer many different options, including blisters and cardboard cups, always aiming for sustainable solutions.

Why retailers, wholesalers and brand ambassadors love to work with us?

Customers appreciate us for the high quality standard of our products, operation and services and for our creative and innovative spirit. As an ice cream expert, innovation, research and development are of key importance. We embrace this in two ways: we’re happy to fulfill the challenges we receive from our customers, and we have our own innovation strategy where we develop answers to actual consumer needs and trends.

Our values.

The core values of our company define how we do business: with integrity and reliability, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a no-nonsense mentality. We are passionate about the products we create and proud of our expertise and craftsmanship.

Entrepreneurial.

Where we see opportunitities, we take our chance. We work with short, direct lines and are able to make quick decisions if needed. We base our decisions on what is best for the group in the long term. Results matter.

No-nonsense.

We tackle whatever is needed without politics. We believe that something can be good and qualitative in simplicity.

Upright & reliable.

We are open and honest. We take our responsibility and if we promise something, we keep that promise.

Enthusiasm.

We are passionate about what we do. From our passion for our profession and our industry, we inspire, enthuse and assist each other.

Craftsmanship.

We are ambitious and want to be best in class. Extending and expanding our knowledge & skills in order to master our profession and sharing our expertise with others, is of key importance to us.

Our mission.

As Belgian Icecream Group we aim to produce and market premium quality ice cream, both in branded and in private label.

We’re driven by the ambition to organize ourselves in the most efficient way but always with joy in what we do and with the ambition to become better every day.

We believe in our own strenghts and want to secure our future and that of the people operating in it. Together as one group and one team, we work towards a sustainable future. Our future.

Our ambition.

Consumers love ice cream because of its refreshing and versatile character. There is plenty of choice in the market and consumers continiously want to be surprised when making ice cream choices.

We challenge the market and want to be the best in class when it comes to creating answers to this need with innovative concepts focusing on a sense of nostalgia, a solution for a healthier life, an answer towards a more sustainable future and a life full of indulgent surprises.

Our success is built on our ambition to be the local employer of choice and the global preferred, longterm partner for ice cream.

This is us. One group, one team, one goal.

Protecting our world.

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time and is affecting us all, both as individuals and as a company. Recognising our shared responsibility for the environment, Belgian Icecream Group took a bold step forward by committing itself to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) under the umbrella of our parent company, Baronie.

The SBTi is a global movement that aligns business goals with the latest climate science, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. By embracing this initiative, we are reinforcing our dedication to environmental stewardship and creating a sustainable future for generations to come. To this end, we have committed to the SBTi with the goal of reaching Net Zero target for the European scope by 2050. We are proud to set ambitious, science-based targets that will guide our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impact of climate change. This commitment is not just a part of our corporate responsibility; it’s a promise to actively contribute to a more sustainable and resilient world. Our world.

We carefully select our suppliers exclusively within Europe, with a strong preference for those located in Belgium. This approach ensures not only the highest quality standards, but also supports local economies and reduces our ecological footprint. By collaborating with trusted European partners, we maintain a commitment to sustainability, transparency and excellence in everything we do.

Additionally we assess, select, and monitor our suppliers through a comprehensive initial screening process before approving them as suppliers. Our processes are continuously monitored and externally audited to ensure compliance with IFS requirements. As part of our commitment to ethical sourcing, we only use cage-free eggs since 2017. Furthermore, we are dedicated to become a palm-free production facility by the year 2026.

It all started with a scoop of ice cream. Not just any ice cream, but delicious creamy ice cream... In 1935, 15-year-old Staf Janssens travelled around his native village Tielen with a tonne of ice on a wheelbarrow. Everywhere he went, he created the greatest pleasure. Everyone had a soft spot for the young man and his ice cream. They lovingly called him the «IJsboerke», or translated literally from Dutch: «ice cream farmer».

After 90 years we still work with fresh, local ingredients, that’s why we proudly say: this is «fun from here»! This world of fun is the basis of the IJsboerke brand. The yellow globe rotates and reveals silhouettes in a different location. It’s an imaginative world that’s always enjoyable and relatable, wherever you are, whenever you enjoy an IJsboerke ice cream!

1935

IJsboerke’s journey began in 1935 when a young Staf Janssens, just 15 years old, began selling homemade ice cream from a cart in his hometown of Tielen. His entrepreneurial spirit quickly turned a simple local delivery into a regional success, using a variety of vehicles—starting with a hand cart, then a motorized tricycle, and eventually, a fleet of ice cream vans. By the 1950s, his small business expanded into Limburg, capitalizing on the demand from the mining community, and Staf’s dedication to high-quality ice cream gained him many loyal fans.

As the business grew, so did IJsboerke’s offerings, from just vanilla and chocolate to flavors like mocha and strawberry. The company’s workforce swelled, and in 1962, a major milestone came when IJsboerke moved to a new facility, signaling its serious growth. In the 1960s IJsboerke embraced the frozen revolution, shifting from scoopable delights to longer-lasting freezer-friendly ice cream. By 1968, nearly every Belgian home had a freezer, and IJsboerke ice cream became a household staple. The brand’s iconic trucks turned into a rolling advertisement, delivering smiles to over 200,000 families.

IJsboerke’s golden era arrived when they began to sponsor a cycling team, blending their ice cream with the excitement of Belgian sports. The brand became so intertwined with cycling that ice cream carts were seen as the mobile fanfare of the racing world. Yet, in 1977, disaster struck when a fire destroyed the factory, but IJsboerke’s resilience shone through as they rebuilt with state-of-the-art equipment.

The following decades saw IJsboerke diversify further—into supermarkets, cafes, and even collaborations with famous brands like Leonidas and Studio 100. They also embraced health-conscious trends, launching a light and a lactose-free ice cream line. By the 2000s, IJsboerke expanded internationally, and its flagship stores welcomed customers with even more ice cream delights.

Fast-forward to 2020, when the pandemic sparked innovation. IJsboerke delivered ice cream directly to people’s doors, launching eco-friendly vegan products and ensuring that their loyal fans stayed sweetly satisfied. With partnerships with the Red Devils and even launching a clothing line, IJsboerke remains a beloved, innovative brand, continuing to evolve and delight customers in Belgium and beyond. Now 90 years old, IJsboerke celebrates its legacy with new flavors and partnerships, always staying true to the passion of its founder.

the famous full & soft taste, thanks to our Belgian tradition and craftsmanship

Do you find our ice cream incredibly delicious? That’s no coincidence. For IJsboerke, only the best is good enough. Since the very beginning - in 1935 - we have been making our ice cream with natural ingredients and daily fresh cream. IJsboerke ice cream contains more than 25% cream. That’s more than what’s legally required. We combine this tradition with a passion for innovation. The result of that, something great for everyone.
