STATE DEBATE RESULTS An outstanding IHSSA State Debate Tournament happened on January 7th and 8th for the first time in-person for 2 years. We are thankful to DMACC Ankeny for being the host for this in-person tournament. Two Person Champion: Iowa City West Miles Clark & Akhil Bharanidhar (Iowa City West) over Susanne Bigelow & Collin Comito (Dowling Catholic) Lincoln Douglas Champion: Iowa City West in a Close Out (all 5 are considered champions) Flora Zhu, Spencer Thomas, Nathan Weimar, Aviva Fraer, and Jayden Shin Student Congress Champion: Advika Shah - Iowa City West 1st Runner-up: Lexi Duffy - Okoboji 2nd Runner-up: Pakshal Jain - Iowa City West 3rd Runner-up (tie): Elliot Nelson - Oskaloosa 3rd Runner-up (tie): Michael Hellman - Burlington Public Forum Riggleman Division Champion: Dowling Catholic Zachary Harnden & Christopher Pierson (Dowling Catholic) over Angelina Chen & Katie Gu (Ames) Public Forum Galligan Division Champion: Okoboji Connor Cunningham & Haley Harms (Okoboji) over Sophie Munson & Zoey Metcalf (Spencer) Sweepstakes Trophy The trophy is given to the top school at the IHSSA State Debate tournament. 5th place - Norwalk, 4th place - Grinnell, 3rd place - Dowling Catholic, and 2nd place - Okoboji. In 1st place and our Sweepstakes Champion for the 2022 IHSSA State Debate is Iowa City West. Congratulations to all schools! Thanks to Nick Nelson, Bob Galligan, Rick Hunsaker, Spencer Waugh, Kirk Johnson, Lauren Burdt, Lauren McCool, Sam Magner and Tim Sheaff for their tireless work in managing the tournament. Special cudos to all schools for their outstanding work participating in person. Also, thanks to all the judges who came to the event this year.
