Keep Alexander moving Wells Cathedral visit A new fundraising group has launched in Timsbury to help an 8 year old local boy get a powered wheelchair. Alexander is an 8 year old boy who lives in Farmborough, and goes to St Mary’s Primary School in Timsbury. Alexander was born with pseudoachondroplasia, which is a painful form of dwarfism that affects the bones and joints. His condition is progressive, his joints are deteriorating and he has osteoarthritis which causes him a lot of pain. Alexander now needs a power wheelchair which will help him race around with his friends, like any other 8 year old boy. Unfortunately the NHS will not provide Alexander with a power chair. So Alexander’s family, friends, and parents and staff at St Mary’s Primary School have launched Alexander’s New Wheels, a fundraising campaign to raise the £8000 needed to buy the chair. An Auction of Promises and raffle will be held on Saturday 17th March in Timsbury, and raffle prizes and “promises” are needed. Local people are asked to think if they have something they can donate, or an hour of their time and talents they could give to this very worthy cause. Donations for the auction can be as simple as a pledge to do an hour’s weeding, to wash someone’s car, a lunch at a local café, or as imaginative and creative as donors like. All pledges will then be auctioned off on the night which promises to be a fun event for the whole community. To donate a promise or a raffle prize, please contact us by telephone on 01761 471896. Or write to us at Alexander’s New Wheels, c/o Sarah Lord, 4 Homefield, Timsbury, Bath BA2 0LU or to find out more about Alexander’s New Wheels you can go to our website at www.alexandersnewwheels.co.uk

22 key stage 2 singers from Westfield Primary School visited Wells Cathedral on the 30th November and took part in a spectacular concert, along with many other schools. The children from Westfield thoroughly enjoyed the whole event.

World War 2 children

St. John’s Primary School, Midsomer Norton, have been visiting local places of historical interest. Amazingly, these trips have not been planned by the teachers but the children themselves! Year 6 pupils contacted MSN railway station and the town hall to ask if they could use these places to role play the experiences of evacuees who came to Midsomer Norton over 70 years ago. The Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Centre was amazing and the pupils got to see a genuine Anderson Shelter and an incredible mini-museum housed in an old pill box. In the town hall, the Sarah Ann Trust gave them the spacious top hall where pupils recreated the experience of evacuees being chosen by their new families. They have also been visited by local people who were themselves evacuated to Midsomer Norton all those years ago.
