Moderator Theo Koll

Capital bureau chief, Berlin ZDF As head of the ZDF capital city studio in Berlin,Theo Koll coordinates the coverage of the capital and analyzes political events. In addition, he manages and moderates the political capital city show ‘Berlin Direkt’ and the ZDF summer interviews.

The ZDF editor-in-chief is also responsible for the domestic and foreign studios of ZDF. ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen) is Germany’s national public television broadcaster. It is run as an independent non-profit corporation under the authority of the Länder, the sixteen states that constitute the Federal Republic of Germany.

The nationwide channel ZDF has been broadcasting since April 1, 1963 and remains one of the country’s leading sources of information.

The corporation has a permanent staff of 3,500 plus a similar number of freelancers.

ZDF is based in Mainz, but also maintains permanent bureaus in the 16 Länder capitals as well as special editorial and production facilities in Berlin. For international coverage, ZDF has foreign correspondents operating in 18 permanent bureaus worldwide.

Christiane Hoffmann

Deputy Spokesperson Federal Government of Germany Christiane Hoffmann is the First Deputy Spokesperson of the Federal Government and Deputy Head of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government.

She informs the public of the work being done by the Federal Government.

Stephan Kramer

President Office for Constitutional Security, Thuringia, Erfurt Stephan Kramer has been President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Thuringia ( AfV ) since 2015. From 1991 to the end of 2014, it was an independent, higher state authority as the Thuringian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

Its most important tasks, in addition to fighting terrorism and counter-espionage, are to collect and evaluate information about anti-constitutional attitudes, actions and tendencies that endanger democracy and to point out possible conclusions and options for action that enable the political decision-makers in the state government, to take concrete measures at an early stage, to ward off dangers from our open and free society and free democratic basic order.

Through its professional work, the Office wants to make an effective contribution in the fight against and criminal prosecution of anti-constitutional efforts and radicalization tendencies in the state of Thuringia.

Peter Limbourg

Director-General DW (Deutsche Welle) Peter Limbourg was appointed director general of DW (Deutsche Welle) in 2013 and in September 2018 was re-confirmed by the network’s Broadcasting Board to head the media organization for another six-year term.

Since he took office, Limbourg has initiated a series of changes in order to better equip Germany’s international broadcaster for a digital global media landscape. The continued relevance of television is being underlined with four linear channels, led by the flagship English-language broadcast, featuring targeted regional daily news programs for audiences in Asia and Africa. Another major focus is the ongoing digitization of DW’s media content in thirty languages with a determined shift to online and social media content. Limbourg has encouraged innovation at DW through the implementation of lab development processes and other crossdepartmental and multilingual journalistic projects and has been an outspoken advocate for freedom of the press and gender equality in journalism.

Under his leadership, the role of DW Akademie has been strengthened by expanding educational programs worldwide, thus making the DW Akademie a global source of expertise in the field of media literacy, enabling journalists and media consumers alike to navigate the vast number of media sources and to separate objective reporting from propaganda.

DW Akademie is also meeting the challenges of promoting media development, which has become more important than ever, with an innovative and interdisciplinary approach. Today, DW Akademie is working in 50 countries around the world, with sustainably designed programs including the consultation of governments, professional associations, press councils and media organizations on frameworks.

Peter Limbourg studied law in Bonn and later chose a career in journalism. He worked as a correspondent in the former East Germany, London, Bonn and Brussels before he was appointed editor-in-chief of N24 (now WELT). Later, Limbourg became senior VP News & Political Information for ProSieben Sat.1 TV Germany.

He was also anchorman of SAT.1’s main newscast for several years.

Deniz Yücel

correspondent for Turkey, Welt Group and President of PEN Germany Deniz Yücel was born in Flörsheim in 1973 as a child of Turkish immigrants and has been Turkey correspondent for Die Welt since May 2015.

In 1996 he began studying political science at the Freie Universität Berlin. From 1999 he worked as a freelance author for media such as the Tagesspiegel, the taz, the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Standard and the German broadcasters BR, NDR and WDR. From 2007 to 2015 he was an editor at taz and co-editor of Jungle World.

He is the co-founder of the award-winning anti-racist show Hate Poetry. His first book “Taksim is Everywhere - The Gezi Movement and the Future of Turkey“ was published by Edition Nautilus in 2014, and in 2018 he wrote his second book, “We Are Not Here for Fun”, about his one-year sentence in Turkey (his year as a hostage) in a high-security prison where he was mostly held in solitary confinement.

In 2019 he wrote his third book “Agent Terrorist“.

In October 2021, he was elected President of the German PEN Center. The center, based in Darmstad, advocates for freedom of speech and is a member of PEN International, which unites over 150 writers’ organizations from more than 100 nations.
