EXTRACOMM

First Semester Structure of ExtraComm ExtraComm has always been the committee with the least number of members. Sad to say, some of the members are not even active in the committee. You may be thinking that, “Well, ExtraComm isn’t that important anyway.” Maybe… because it does have the least number of functions as stated in our constitution. Probably… because not everyone can be involved in the events of the committee since not everyone is sporty. But not necessarily! Let me disagree with that notion by proving some important purposes and functions of ExtraComm. ExtraComm aims to promote the holistic development of clubbers. I know a lot of people who used to be good in playing volleyball, basketball and the like in high school. But, as they say, it’s either you use it or you lose it. And so when they get to college, most of these people end up leaving those activities behind (and sometimes even end up, gaining weight). ExtraComm don’t want to let that happen to clubbers. We want to provide the members with an avenue to continually develop such gifts. In addition, we also want these people to be able to interact with their fellow enthusiasts in the org, contributing to better inter-member relationships. Now, if you don’t consider your own talents important, and if you would rather lose them than use them, well, then maybe ExtraComm is indeed not important. If you were not able to relate to the previous scenario and so, you still believe that ExtraComm is not important, I have another line of reasoning for you. You don’t have to be sporty to be in this committee. Really. I’m one epic example of a very not-sporty person. What will happen if ExtraComm will be composed only of sporty people? If you ask me, I think ExtraComm will not have many (or any) events. Please don’t get me wrong. All I’m trying to say here is that if the committee, which was supposed to organize the events that will cater to the interests of the sporty people, will be composed of the same sporty people, then, who will plan and/or attend the activities? ExtraComm, just like any other committees, needs a diversity of skills and abilities from its members. Another thing, ExtraComm is not limited to sports. It is expected to promote the physical, social, mental and even the spiritual wellbeing of the members. This year, ExtraComm will have something for everyone by organizing activities that anyone can engage in (games, art activities and sports). It will offer a lot of opportunities where one can discover his/her hidden talents develop his/her skills and just enjoy being a clubber. So, I invite you, clubbers, to believe that this committee is also just as essential as the other committees. I invite you to be a part of ExtraComm next year. Let’s start developing your skills by taking on a leadership position in ExtraComm. Read through and find out what position suits you best.
