ADVICE FOR PARENTS OF STUDY ABROAD STUDENTS PRE - DEPARTURE PREPARATION

Research the country and program your student is traveling to. Some example questions could be: What type of classes are they taking? Where is their accommodation? How does the program ensure safety? Above all communicate with your student. Keep copies of important documents for your student. This includes a copy of the student's passport and visa cover pages, medical prescriptions, credit card numbers, and social security number. Have your student provide you with all relevant contact information, so you can reach them in case of emergency.

LOOKING FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION?

WHILE THEY ARE ABROAD Encourage your student to explore new cultures and opportunities! Always keep lines of communications open. Be sure to have the contact info for the International Office and any 3rd party companies that may be involved. Remain calm if your student doesn’t contact you at an agreed upon time, traveller’s plans change! Have a backup plan.
