TALKING WITH ARLENI GARCIA: PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL CLUB Arleni Garcia, senior biology major, the current president of GCSU’s International Club. “As a first generation Mexican-American I wanted a space that was diverse and created an inclusive atmosphere...” said Arleni. “The International Club became that safe space for me. Here, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, you are always welcome.” She is a proud representative of The International Club on campus, a role that enriched her perspective and broadened her understanding of diverse cultures, languages, and traditions.
Bridging Cultures: How do you envision The International Club contributing to the overall diversity and inclusion at GCSU? “One of my goals for The International Club is overcoming communication barriers and being openminded about other peoples’ ideas and cultures. I want us to promote loving each others differences and similarities, and finding common ground among one another. When students leave GCSU, I hope they create a lasting appreciation for their time and experiences.” Arleni responded.
