ABATEMENT FOR PASSAGE BKM 3.0 is an unique product as it is designed for the abatement of pathogens in real environments. It has not been tested with pathogens placed on laboratory slides but it has been validated by laboratory tests that demonstrate the effectiveness of the abatement, which occurs immediately, when the air passes through the equipment.

Performance Report

BKM 3.0 is the new air purifier with patented and certified technology *, able to effectively improve indoor air quality.

It directly eliminates aero-dispersed pathogens and activates a photo-catalyst made of titanium dioxide nanoparticles, which reduces the concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air, without generating Ozone.

What are VOCs?

The BKM 3.0 device is equipped with 2 UV-C germicidal lamps, emitting at 254 nm, and a fan with two air velocity settings. The internal surfaces, especially shaped and patented, have been located in a way to maximize surface illumination by the UV-C lamps. Furthermore, the photocatalyst was finely distributed over them.

The BKM 3.0 purifies the air without producing ozone and ensuring the containment of UV-C.

The choice of technologies and the study of internal geometry.

The coupling of photo-catalysis technology with the germicidal effect of UV-C radiations in a single device has been made possible through experimentation on a laboratory scale, which have allowed to validate a complex mathematical model. This mathematical model measured the relationship between the speed of abatement of pathogens and VOCs, the local intensity of irradiation and the duration of the air treatment, which has to be very short in an air purifier. The results of the study have identified the maximum effectiveness in this product configuration: the dimensions of the purifier and of the photocatalytic coating, based on nano particles of titania, as well as the choice of the internal geometry and the position of the lamps, are the optimal ones for the pathogens and VOCs abatement at the passage of the internal air flow.

Experimentation 10 months of studies in collaboration with K-INN Tech, the Spin-Off company of the University of Padua, have allowed a team of chemical engineers and mechanical and electronic experts to develop this innovative air purifier able to bring the technology of photocatalysis and the use of UVC rays to a new level of effectiveness.

In order to achieve this aim, several tests were carried out, accompanied by advanced mathematical modeling.
