MATTHEW WHARTON

So, what did the team get into this week? We prepped for the Par Tee, as the ladies hosted their Member Guest. Maintenance Monday was a refreshing break from last week’s humid conditions. The golf course did pick up a smidge of rain Sunday evening and the lower dew point on Monday gave the course a much-needed breather.

Tuesday was another full day of mowing as the humidity returned kicking off a small thunderstorm around 7:00 pm. The rainfall tally wasn’t much to write home about, but it did give us another day to rest the pump station. Wednesday afternoon was when Mother Nature decided to bring some real rain for the first time in nearly three weeks, as the golf course absorbed 0.89” (23mm) late Wednesday evening. This event washed out cart paths and altered our setup plans for Thursday’s final day of the Ladies Member Guest, but we persevered.

Thursday morning dawned slightly cloudy and humid, but as the day progressed the humidity relented, and the ladies enjoyed a true chamber of commerce day in Lexington for their event. Now it’s

Friday again and the team is busy mowing, cutting, and grooming the golf course as we head into the weekend.

We are also spinning the bunkers this afternoon as Wednesday’s thunderstorm did quite a number on the sand.

This week we did treat all greens, tees, and approaches with liquid fertilizer and plant protectant. Fairways will be treated early next week as Independence Day looms on the horizon. Until next time.

Thanks for reading, and happy golfing!

Justforfun, squat eachtimeyouread “TRX”onthepage

There’s a new addition to the Gym! While we’ve had TRX straps attached to the cable machine for some time now, we just got a stand alone TRX mount for the gym. So now you’ve got two TRX’s in the gym: on the cable machine and on the adjacent wall You’ll also find a TRX mount in the Group Fitness Room. TRX has been one of my favorite pieces of equipment for years It’s so versatile that anyone, at any fitness level, can benefit from it You can put your feet in the foot cradles to spice up your plank or lunge or you can squat while using more arms than legs if you’re building back muscle after a knee or hip surgery. While the TRX can be utilized for a full body strength workout, you can also use it to stretch out or to get your heart pumping with cardio exercises!

Why move it to the wall? While having the TRX attached to the cable machine is a great option, there are several reasons for the wall mount. First, that cable machine is multi-functional with just the cable pulleys, then we added the bar, the shoulder staps, and the TRX This means a station with different equipment attached to it is limited to one person, sometimes two. Moving the TRX to the mount takes one piece away The shoulder cords will also be moved to a wall soon. A TRX is still attached to the cable machine in case the other one is in use or is blocked by other exercises. Second, the structure of the cable machine limits the movement available while using the TRX Moving the legs side to side while in a TRX plank or coming underneath for a TRX inverted row was very challenging and not as effective. Having the straps hanging on the mount, positions the TRX about two feet from any structure allowing more movement

Where am I supposed to put my mat now? Knowing where to lay a mat has always been a good question If you’ve ever used the gym when it’s busy, you know its a dance Sometimes people are in your way and sometimes you’re in their way. A little communication and flexibility are key Having the TRX on this mount does allow a bit more flexibility because you don’t have to be centered to the mount, you can use it from any angle Depending on the TRX exercise, it will likely be usable while someone is on a mat directly below the mount. So yes, mats can still go in that vicinity If you know members are using this TRX, you can simply ask if you’d be in their way where your mat is, or might be going. There is also space for mats in the area between my office and the upper body machines, in the upstairs hallway (better during nonpool season), and any other vacant spot you can find in the gym. Book your appointment to learn how to use the TRX, IHCC app or idlehourky.com/wellness

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

NICK JEFFREY Food & Beverage Manager

Where are you from?

I’ve been all over America. My dad was a GM for Marriott so about every 3 years or so we would move on to another state. I was born in New Jersey. At age 2 we moved to California, then Missouri, then Nebraska. I ended up in Kentucky when I was 11 and have moved back and forth between Lexington and Texas a couple of times. I have lived here for over 20 years, Kentucky will always be home.

What led you to this careeer?

I’ve always been surrounded by the hospitality/food & beverage industry with both parents working in it. I started young with my first job at 13, working at the Griffin Gate Resort. I quickly fell in love with the industry, and it has always stuck ever since.

What do you love most about

your job?

Every day is something new. It’s not the same old, boring 9-5. Good or bad, this job will always keep you on your toes and never leave you stagnant. Knowing that the performance of your job can improve the day of any person you come across is a huge motivator and leaves you with a sense of satisfaction when all is said and done.

Food & Beverage Manager

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I love to spend time with my fiancé, Mariah. Just a nice, relaxing day of hanging by the pool or going out for date night. Regardless of what we’re doing, if it’s with her, I’m having the time of my life!

What motivates you at work?

My number one motivator is the team that surrounds me. Whether its upper management, servers, the back of house, to housekeeping. Seeing the dedication and hard work everyone puts into their job here is a constant reminder of the pride we have in our work at Idle Hour. Knowing that I can give my fiancé and future kids the life they deserve by working here is the push I receive daily to keep trying to improve this club and myself, not only as an employee, but also as a human being.
