RIC STUDENTS REPRESENT Senior Interns in Ecuador During the most recent pre-spring session, I was able to travel to Ecuador to complete the internship requirement for my INGOs certificate. A total of 12 RIC students, two professors, and one of the professor’s sons went on the trip. Our mission was to help teach Jason King, meeting Sixto Durán Ballén, children at an orworld famous architect, former mayor of phanage how to Quito, ambassador to the US, and Ecgrow vegetables uador’s 37th President (1992-1996). hydroponically (we also made two outdoor gardens). This was all done to help the orphanage become self-sustaining by growing their own food. Just as important as our official mission, was showing the children there that they are not forgotten and that they are loved. Mission accomplished on both accounts. The entire trip was amazing. Spending time with the kids, seeing the natural beauty of Ecuador, spending time with our kind and generous hosts, and even meeting a former president of Ecuador are all things that

I will never forget. This opportunity is afforded to RIC students every two years (through Dr. Jill Harrison) and I would highly recommend it to all Political Science majors and those in the INGOs program. Thank you, RIC and thank you, Ecuador. Jason King (Political Science/INGOS ‘16)

Junior to Crunch Numbers in NC By Elisa Boschetti (Political Science/INGOS ‘16) Nicauris Heredia ‘17, double majoring in Political Science and Public Administration, minoring in INGOS, has been offered an exciting opportunity this summer. She applied and was accepted to the 2016 Ralph Bunche Summer Institute, a research methodology training program offered to third year undergraduate students. Each year, fewer than twenty students across the country are each year to participate. Classes are held on the Duke University Campus in North Carolina for five weeks. Nicauris hopes to gain more experience in statistical analysis, which she believes is a key element of Political Science research. 1
