What a mess! Political mismanagement

maintenance undoubtedly played a part. In addition, as we enter the main tourism season, Los Cristianos beach still has no sunbeds or sunshades. Jorge Marichal, the president of Ashotel ho-

teliers’ association, claimed that the civil servants and politicians of Arona Town hall are “ruining” the image of the tourist destination, “with their incompetence”. Added to the lack of sunbeds etc. the town

still has an ongoing problem with the unpaid lifesaver service which has been dragging on for over a year - an appalling image for the area. Then we have the saga of the public hospital for the south. If any-

The latest disaster to hit the area was a major rock fall at the junction with the TF1 from Parque de la Reina. Tons of rocks and soil from the embankment wall on the side of the junction came loose and avalanched down almost burying a car and its two occupants, who were unhurt, but badly shaken. It appears that the soil and rocks were loosened by recent rains, but poor

one was not clear about the status of the much vaunted ‘new’ services, all they have to do is look at the Canarian Governement’s budget for 2014. Apart from a brutal slashing of the budget to €5.3 million, they make it quite clear that the service is a Centro de Atención Especializada (CAE), that is to say exactly what we already have in El Mojón, where patients can be referred to specialists from local health centres or as an intermediate stage before being sent on to hospital. Two decades have now passed waiting for the promised public hospital in the south, and the politicians still continue to try and pull the wool over our eyes. The area houses 20 per cent of the island’s population and is the most visited location for almost five million tourists a year. This public hospital is needed now!
