NEW SEATING AT OUR REMODELED FILMSCENE ON THE PED MALL
CREATING COMMUNITY THROUGH CINEMA “It’s the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with.” — Kermit the Frog, The Muppet Movie Nowhere in the job description does it ask for “Muppet impersonation skills.” Yet, if there is a moment that best encapsulates the work, perhaps this is it: standing before a room of children and parents, a green felt frog on one hand, microphone in the other, delivering a lesson on puppetry in film before we sit down to watch The Muppet Movie together. When people ask if FilmScene is “a regular movie theater?” the answer is no, “more than.” And this is it. We entertain, yes. But, we also educate, we challenge, we inspire. With an emphasis on “together.” That shared experience cannot be had at home (though we do hope this feels like home). As moviegoing rebounds this year, this is what excites us most, having you here with us, watching movies side by side. In March, that shared experience includes big films like The Batman (written by an Iowa alum) and tender small films like Great Freedom. It includes rooting for The Queen of Basketball on screen during the Oscar Shorts and again on the big night during our Blue Carpet Bash. Whatever it is that makes FilmScene your home for movies — be it big picture and sound, Iowa beer and popcorn, or cinema you can’t find anywhere else — we’re all part of one community of movie lovers. Thanks for sharing the dream,
Andrew Sherburne Executive Director
