SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES AND DESIGN
First Baptist Church; Shallowater, TX. Kidzville Design Building Concept Form Model
- The design for this building has many considerations for small children. The younger childrens rooms on the first floor have multiple single occupancy restrooms accessible from the interior of the rooms with the appropriat size of fixtures for each age group. - Security was a major consideration in designing this building. All exterior doors are only opperable as exit doors except the main entrance off the reception. The reception has a secure check-in and check-out desk.
Strategically placing second floor to comply with predominant wind direction and maximizing natural light
- The community space on the north side of the building is to be incorporated with the shell space which can be rented out by the community or an extension of the church as a book and coffee shop.

To design an addition to First Baptist Church in Shallowater for the children’s program with attention to space programming and sustainability. The children’s church, Kidzville, requires; a reception with secure check-in, a large gathering space for all the children, outdoor play area, nursery spaces, toddler rooms, classrooms, administrative offices, and service areas, all arranged efficiently in a secure two story building. This building is to be located on the West side of the existing structure and is to be designed with easy access to the entrance from the main church structure on the East side. In accordance with all the above criteria and standard building codes, it is also important to incorporate as many sustainable solutions as possible as it will be beneficial to the inhabitants of the building, the structures longevity, and surrounding environment.
