EDITORIAL pring is traditionally the season of renewal.

After several years, we felt it was time for a new layout, so IBIZA STYLE is taking a new direction with a fresh new look. But there are not only the visual changes: in order to do justice to the high end of the market in which we have positioned ourselves, we are now using a higher grade of paper which is more pleasant to the touch.

Starting with this issue, we not only want our readers to have a better experience with our print magazine; in the online version (also in three languages), we are launching our new video channel, www.ibiza-style.tv, with additional features and interviews. If you are interested in taking a look behind the scenes and seeing how IBIZA-STYLE is produced, we have included some interesting insights here.

Also during the new season, we can all expect to see various innovations and changes here in Ibiza. The Island continues to attract more companies in the luxury segment: new beach clubs are in the offing, while others are opening additional outlets, and yet more venues are changing ownership. We are now able to report on the new Polo Club and there are further developments that we will be bringing to you as and when we are allowed to. I hope you enjoy this report as well as catching up on what has been happening over the last few weeks.

a primavera lo renueva todo. Después de varios años con el mismo formato, ya tocaba cambiar de diseño. IBIZA STYLE emprende ahora nuevos caminos con un look fresco y renovado. Pero no solo hay cambios visuales sino que, para estar a la altura del sector del lujo donde nos movemos, imprimiremos la revista partir de ahora en un papel aún más noble y más agradable al tacto.

Sin embargo, no solo queremos presentarles a nuestros lectores una nueva imagen de nuestra revista impresa a partir de este número. En nuestra presencia en Internet, también en tres idiomas, hemos puesto en marcha el nuevo canal de vídeo www.ibiza-style.tv, con más reportajes y entrevistas. Además, todo el que quiera echar un vistazo entre bastidores descubrirá aquí interesantes documentos sobre cómo se produce IBIZA-STYLE. En la temporada que ahora comienza también habrá algunos cambios y renovaciones en la propia isla. Ibiza sigue atrayendo empresas del segmento del lujo. Se están creando nuevos beach clubs y algunos van a abrir establecimientos adicionales, mientras que otros locales están cambiando de dueño. Aún no hemos tenido ocasión de informar al respecto, pero en los próximos números nuestros lectores serán los primeros en descubrir toda la información al respecto, como ya ocurre en este mismo número con el nuevo Polo Club. er Frühling macht alles neu. Nach mehreren Jahren war es wieder einmal Zeit für ein neues Layout. Im neuen Kleid mit frischem Look geht IBIZA STYLE neue Wege. Doch es gibt nicht nur optische Veränderungen. Um dem Luxussektor in dem wir uns bewegen gerecht zu werden, drucken wir ab jetzt auf einem noch edleren Papier mit angenehmer Haptik.

Ab dieser Ausgabe wollen wir unseren Lesern aber nicht nur ein neues Erscheinungsbild unseres Printmagazins präsentieren. Im – ebenfalls dreisprachigen – Online Auftritt unseres Magazins startet der neue Video-Channel www.ibiza-style.tv mit zusätzlichen Reportagen und Interviews. Auch wer mal einen Blick hinter die Kulissen werfen möchte, wie IBIZASTYLE produziert wird, wird hier fündig.

Auch in der nun beginnenden Saison wird es einige Neuerungen und Veränderungen auf der Insel geben. Ibiza zieht weitere Unternehmen aus dem Luxussegment an. Neue Beach Clubs sind im Entstehen, andere eröffnen zusätzliche Standorte, wieder andere Locations wechseln den Besitzer. Noch durften wir nicht darüber berichten – aber in den kommenden Ausgaben werden unsere Leser als Erste davon erfahren, wie auch schon in dieser Ausgabe über den neuen Polo Club. he passage between the Port of Ibiza and Puerto de la Savina on Formentera passes through the strait of Es Freus with its many rocky shoals. Ferries navigate this stretch of water every hour in both directions. The established route passes the small rocky Island of Sa Torreta at a distance of some 80 metres.

This small islet lies just off the Island of Espalmador and forms a small, calm, protected natural harbour between the two islands. Both islands form part of the Ses Salines nature reserve.

On the evening of 15th February, the fast ferry Maverick Dos was on its way to Formentera with 21 passengers and a crew of 4 when it passed through the strait at a speed of barely 50 km/h. It left its course and at 7.55pm ran aground on the Island of Sa Torreta. We have to be grateful for small mercies that the rocks here slope very gently out of the sea. The twohulled catamaran therefore ran onto the island as if up a ramp and came to rest there.

Fortunately only a single passenger sustained a minor whiplash injury, all others on board survived unscathed. All the passengers agree that the crew then reacted with the utmost professionalism and at once started the evacuation procedures laid down to remove

a travesía desde el puerto de la ciudad de Ibiza hasta el puerto de La Savina en Formentera atraviesa un estrecho, Es Freus, con muchos bajos rocosos. Cada hora pasan ferris por este lugar en ambas direcciones.

La ruta estipulada transita a una distancia aproximada de 80 metros por delante del islote de Sa Torreta. Este se encuentra justo delante de la isla Espalmador y forma un pequeño puerto, poco profundo y protegido, entre las dos islas. Todo el territorio de ambas islas forma parte del Parque Natural de Ses Salines.

En la tarde del 15 de febrero, el ferri rápido Maverick Dos navegaba de camino a Ibiza con 21 pasajeros y 4 tripulantes y pasó el estrecho a una velocidad de apenas 50 km/h. Perdió el rumbo y a las 19:55 horas encalló en el islote de Sa Torreta. Dentro de la desgracia, fue toda una suerte que la roca solo destacase levemente sobre el nivel del mar. De este modo, el catamarán varó con sus dos patines como si se tratara de una rampa en el islote, donde se detuvo.

A excepción de una pasajera que sufrió un ligero traumatismo cervical, afortunadamente todas las personas que se encontraban a bordo resultaron ilesas. Todos los pasajeros coincidieron en señalar que la tripulación comenzó

Diese kleine Insel liegt direkt vor der Insel Espalmador und bildet zwischen diesen beiden Inseln einen kleinen, flachen und geschützten Naturhafen. Das gesamte Gebiet beider Inseln ist Teil des Naturparks Ses Salines.

Am Abend des 15. Februar war die Schnellfähre ‘Maverick Dos’ mit 21 Passagieren und 4 Besatzungsmitgliedern auf dem Weg nach Formentera und passierte die Meerenge mit einer Geschwindigkeit von knapp 50km/h. Sie kam vom Kurs ab und lief um 19:55h auf der Insel sa Torreta auf. Glück im Unglück, dass der Felsen hier sanft aus dem Meer ansteigt.

So lief der Katamaran mit seinen zwei Kufen wie über eine Rampe auf die Insel auf, wo er zum Stehen kam.

Bis auf eine Passagierin, die sich ein leichtes Schleudertrauma zuzog, blieben glücklicherweise alle an Bord befindlichen Personen unverletzt. Wie alle Passagiere übereinstimmend

passengers from the stricken vessel. The ship’s officers and its owner, the Balearia shipping company, contacted the port authorities and the coastguard right away to coordinate the rescue.

The Helimer 211 helicopter was immediately scrambled by air-sea rescue at Palma airport, and at the same time the coastguard launched the Salvamar Markab lifeboat. It arrived on the scene at 8.25pm, and at 9.20pm its crew started transferring passengers to the rescue vessel with an inflatable. This took about 40 minutes.

By 11.45pm everyone from on board the ferry arrived at Puerto de la Savina. The Captain and the First Officer remained on board and checked the ship for possible leaks. Apart from a couple of scrapes on the hulls and some splintering to the front of one of the hulls, there was no visible damage. It was a blessing that there was no leakage of fuel, as the fuel tanks contained around 4,200 litres of diesel.

Work on pumping out the fuel and removing any other hazardous materials from the ship and the island started the next day. As we went to print, plans were being drawn up to salvage the vessel from the rocks.

The cause of the accident is still unknown.

But according to the Ibiza Harbour Master, human error is the most likely explanation.

Experts among the maritime community suspect that excessive speed and inattention because of the routine nature of the voyage could be to blame.

inmediatamente la evacuación de los pasajeros del buque siniestrado de un modo absolutamente profesional y reglamentario. Los oficiales y la propietaria, la compañía naviera Balearia, se pusieron de inmediato en contacto con las autoridades portuarias y Salvamento Marítimo para coordinar las labores de rescate.

Casi inmediatamente, despegaba el helicóptero Helimer 211 de la unidad de Salvamento Marítimo desde el aeropuerto de Palma y simultáneamente se puso en marcha la embarcación de Salvamento Marítimo Salvamar Markab. Llegó a las 20:25 horas al lugar del accidente. A las 21:20 se comenzó a transbordar a los pasajeros con una lancha neumática hasta la embarcación de salvamento, operación que llevó aproximadamente 40 minutos. Alrededor de las 23:54 horas todos desembarcaban en el puerto de La Savina. El capitán y el primer oficial permanecieron a bordo y examinaron el buque por si existía algún tipo de fuga. A excepción de algunos rasguños en los patines y el desprendimiento de la parte delantera de uno de ellos, no era visible ningún daño. Fue una suerte que no llegase a derramarse ni una gota de combustible. A fin de cuentas, los depósitos tienen una capacidad de unos 4200 litros de gasoil. Al día siguiente se comenzó a extraer el combustible y a eliminar todas las demás sustancias nocivas del barco y de la isla. Al cierre de esta edición todavía se estaba trabajando en un plan para poder volver a bajar el barco de las rocas.

Aún no se ha podido esclarecer cómo pudo ocurrir el accidente en realidad. No obstante, según la Capitanía Marítima de las Pitiusas, podría tratarse de un error humano. Algunos expertos de círculos marítimos han apuntado como causa probable a un posible exceso de velocidad y a la falta de atención debida a la rutina diaria.

Este incidente «… que todo quede en una anécdota que no se vuelva a repetir», dijo el presidente del Gobierno balear, José Ramón Bauzá. n

Sofort startete der Helikopter ‚Helimer 211’ der Seenotrettungsstelle vom Flughafen Palma und gleichzeitig machte sich der Seenotrettungskreuzer ‚Salvamar Markab’ auf den Weg. Er traf um 20:25h an der Unglücksstelle ein.

Um 21:20h begann man, die Passagiere mit einem Schlauchboot zum Rettungskreuzer überzusetzen, was ca. 40 Minuten dauerte. Um 23:45h legte die Markab mit den Schiffbrüchigen im Hafen von La Savina an. Der Kapitän und der erste Offizier blieben an Bord der Maverick Dos und untersuchten das Schiff auf mögliche Leckagen. Bis auf ein paar Schrammen und einem abgesplitterten Vorderteil einer Kufe waren keine Schäden sichtbar. Ein Segen, dass kein Treibstoff ausgelaufen war.

Immerhin fassen die Tanks rund 4.200 Liter Diesel. Schon am nächsten Tag wurde damit begonnen, den Treibstoff abzupumpen und alle weiteren schädlichen Stoffe vom Schiff und der Insel zu entfernen. Bei Redaktionsschluss wurde noch an einem Plan gearbeitet, das Schiff von dem Felsen wieder herunter zu holen.

Wie es überhaupt zu dem Unglück kommen konnte, ist ebenfalls noch nicht geklärt. Es scheint jedoch laut der Capitanía Marítima der Pitiusen menschliches Versagen vorzuliegen.

Kenner aus Schiffahrtskreisen vermuten, dass eventuell zu hohe Geschwindigkeit und Unachtsamkeit durch die alltägliche Routine die Ursache gewesen sein könnten.

Dieser Vorfall ist „...wie eine Anekdote, die sich nicht noch einmal wiederholen darf“, kommentierte der Präsident der Balearen Regierung, José Ramón Bauzá diesen Vorfall. n

biza Style had the opportunity to visit the three brothers in charge of this architectural project at their offices in the north-west of Madrid. The Cano Lasso studio is an extension to their parents’ home which was designed their father. Julio Cano Lasso is regarded as one of the first modern, rationalist architects of Spain, a description that also applies to the family home which was designed and built along very purist lines for the time whilst still retaining the traditional elements such as whitewashed brick. One of his most famous works is the Spanish Pavilion at the 1992 World Expo in Seville.

Since deciding to follow in the footsteps of their illustrious father, the sons have not been overawed by the challenge; they too have been honoured with many prestigious awards in their own right. Twice, their practice has won the coveted prize of the Architects Association of Madrid (COAM). Among the prominent buildings they have created together is the multi-

biza Style ha tenido la oportunidad de visitar al equipo de arquitectos en su estudio del noroeste de Madrid. Se encuentra en un añadido a la casa familiar de los padres de estos tres hermanos proyectada por su propio padre, el prestigioso arquitecto Julio Cano Lasso, uno de los primeros arquitectos racionalistas modernos de España. Así pues, también construyó su casa en un estilo muy purista para aquellos tiempos, pero sin renunciar a elementos tradicionales, como muros de ladrillo blanqueados. Uno de sus trabajos más conocidos es el pabellón español de la Exposición Universal de Sevilla de 1992.

Los hijos siguieron los pasos de su padre y, por lo que se ve, no le van a la zaga, ya que han sido galardonados al igual que él con muchos premios de prestigio. Su estudio ya ha sido distinguido en dos ocasiones con el codiciado premio del Colegio de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM).

biza Style hatte die Gelegenheit, das Architektenteam in ihrem Studio im Nordwesten von Madrid zu besuchen. Das Studio ist ein Anbau am Wohnhaus der Eltern der drei Brüder, das deren Vater, der angesehen Architekt Julio Cano Lasso – einer der ersten modernen, rationalistischen Architekten Spaniens – entwarf. So ist denn auch sein Haus für die damalige Zeit sehr puristisch gebaut, ohne aber auf traditionelle Elemente wie weiß gekalkte Ziegelsteinmauern zu verzichten. Eine seiner bekanntesten Arbeiten ist der spanische Pavillon auf der World-Expo 1992 in Sevilla.

Die Söhne traten in die Fußstapfen des Vaters – und die waren ihnen nicht zu groß, denn genau wie er wurden sie mit vielen prestigeträchtigen Prämierungen ausgezeichnet.

Zweimal wurde das Büro mit dem begehrten Preis der Architektenkammer von Madrid (COAM) ausgezeichnet. Zu einem der bekanntesten Bauwerke, die sie gemeinsam entworfen haben, zählt die Multifunktions- und Sport-

function/sports venue Telefónica Arena (formerly known as the Madrid Arena) in the Spanish capital. They have won major open competitions such as that to design the Museo de las Colecciones Reales (Museum of the Royal Collection) and to give a makeover to the Vallehermoso sports stadium.

Other first prizes won against stiff competition include. Edificio de Accesos y Servicios del Campus de la Justicia de Madrid (2008). By comparison with the above projects, the Jesús cultural centre may at first sight appear somewhat modest. The tender for this competi-

tion proved so attractive, however, that, along with 78 other international architects, Cano Lasso Studio also chose to throw their hat into the ring.

Gonzalo Cano Pintos explained to us that the Jesús cultural centre is based on a cluster of three buildings – an auditorium of 479 square metres, a library/event area of over 300 square metres and a third block measuring 133 square metres to house the offices of the local authority: “The architecture of these three units is extremely light and transparent, a contrast to the high-density building of the village itself. In fact, it is more of a ‘non-building’, a pleasantly shaded area. The idea is to adapt the architecture of the centre to the environment and to nature.”

The three units are linked by a gently curving roof that shelters the walkways as well as parts of the surrounding park from strong sunlight or rain. In addition to the positioning, external form and construction of the separate

La arquitectura de estas tres unidades es «extremadamente ligera y transparente, el polo opuesto a la densidad de edificación de la zona. Prácticamente un «no edificio», poco más que una superficie sombreada. La arquitectura del Centro se debe adaptar al entorno y a la naturaleza».

Los tres elementos constructivos se unen mediante una cubierta ligeramente curvada que, al mismo tiempo, protege los accesos y algunas zonas del parque circundante de la intensa radiación solar. Además de la ubicación, forma, estructura y disposición de los elementos constructivos, para Cano Pinto la capacidad de

Praktisch ein „Nicht-Gebäude“, eher eine beschattete Fläche. Die Architektur des Zentrums soll sich der Umgebung und Natur anpassen.“ Die drei Gebäudeelemente sind durch eine leicht geschwungene Überdachung verbunden, die auch die Zugangswege sowie Teile des umgebenden Parks gegen starke Sonneneinstrahlung und Regen schützt. Consequently, great importance has been attached to the concept of multifunctionality, not only in the auditorium but also in the library which can be used as three separate rooms or converted into a single large hall.

The outside areas will be stocked with native plants. The architects are very keen that the surrounding roads should be traffic calmed so that the overall tranquillity is not disturbed.

Now that the project has been agreed and the final plans have been handed over to the Ayuntamiento of Santa Eulalia, the next stage involves securing the usual building permits.

The foundation stone for the new centre is due to be laid in September, with the official opening estimated to be in a further 16 to 18 months.

Las zonas verdes plantadas con especies autóctonas bordean los caminos de acceso y las zonas de paso. Para no comprometer la tranquilidad de estas zonas, los arquitectos opinan que se debe limitar el tráfico en las inmediaciones del complejo.

Toda vez que su proyecto ya está terminado y el Ayuntamiento de Santa Eulalia ha recibido los planos definitivos, tan solo falta por concluir el habitual proceso de licitación y adjudicación de las obras. Está previsto que sea en septiembre cuando se ponga la primera piedra del nuevo centro y que la inauguración tenga lugar entre 16 y 18 meses después.

Nachdem nun das Projekt abgeschlossen ist und die endgültigen Pläne dem Ayuntamiento von Santa Eulalia übergeben wurden laufen die üblichen Baugenehmigungsverfahren. Im September soll der Grundstein zum neuen Zentrum gelegt und nach weiteren 16 bis 18 Monaten selbiges eingeweiht werden.

anta Eulària des Riu is a town on a river.

The fact that it is today a dry river bed is a source of amusement to some. If, however, those who mock then walk the course of the river, they will soon discover the wealth of history and cultural treasures that line its banks.

Until well into the 18th century this river was used by farmers to irrigate their fields, and it also helped the millers to keep their flour mills grinding. But with the advent of tourism, farming went into decline, because at the end of the day there was more money to be made in the hotel and restaurant business. The increase in tourist numbers led to a greater demand for water and over-exploitation of this water source. The end result was that by 1975 the river had dried up completely.

Santa Eulària town council offers the occasional guided tour, but the river landscape can easily be explored on your own. From the town hall square, your route takes you past the old spring Pou de Baix to the beach promenade with its fountain in the shape of a wind rose.

anta Eulària des Riu, una ciudad a orillas del río. El hecho de que se trata de un cauce seco puede provocar más de una sonrisa burlona. No obstante, si nuestro hipotético burlón siguiese el curso del río, terminaría convencido de su significado histórico y de los tesoros culturales que bordean sus orillas.

No en vano, sirvió hasta el siglo XVIII para que los campesinos regasen sus campos limítrofes y ayudó a los molineros a impulsar sus molinos de harina. Con el auge del turismo, la agricultura dejó de ser popular ya que, en definitiva, la industria hostelera y gastronómica aportaba más dinero. La excesiva explotación de las fuentes de agua debido a la mayor demanda asociada al aumento del número de turistas provocó la desecación completa del río allá por el año 1975.

En ocasiones, el municipio de Santa Eulària organiza visitas guiadas, pero el paisaje del río también se puede explorar por propia iniciativa. Desde la plaza del ayuntamiento, el sendero conduce por delante del viejo pozo «Pou

Die übermäßige Ausbeutung dieser Wasserquelle durch den höheren Bedarf, der mit dem Anstieg der Touristenzahlen verbunden war, führte schließlich dazu, dass der Fluss bis zum Jahr 1975 vollkommen versiegt war.

At this point, Neptune grass and its value to the ecosystem of the Mediterranean can be truly appreciated. From here you move on to the old Pont Vell bridge, which an old legend states was built by the devil himself.

According to Ibicencan mythology, you should pick a flower from under this bridge at midnight on the festival of Sant Joan (23rd/24th June) and place it in a black bottle. The flower will then turn into a fameliar or goblin who will help you to master difficult tasks.

At the Can Planetes open air museum, a restored farm house displays to river walkers how farmers formerly used the river to drive the Molí de Dalt flour mill. Mills like the ones at d’Enmig, d’en marge and de Baix are thought to date back to the Al-Andalus period,

Según la mitología ibicenca, en la noche de San Juan, del 23 al 24 de junio, hay que ponerse a medianoche debajo del puente, recoger una flor y ponerla en una botella negra. De la flor acabará saliendo un «Fameliar» (duende) que servirá de ayuda para hacer frente a las tareas difíciles.

ESTA NUEVA ENTIDAD PROMOCIONA IBIZA COMO DESTINO DE CONVENCIONES, VIAJES DE INCENTIVOS, CONGRESOS Y EVENTOS. DIESE NEUE EINRICHTUNG PRÄSENTIERT IBIZA ALS STANDORT FÜR MEETINGS, INCENTIVE-REISEN, KONGRESSE UND EVENTS. he Ibiza Convention Bureau (ICB) has been set up at the Congress Centre of Santa Eulalia with the express idea of catering to that highly specialised area of the tourism industry, namely international congresses, conventions, corporate meetings, product presentations and incentive events.

Financed partly by private and partly by public funds, this new facility is aimed at establishing Ibiza as a prime destination for business clients, thereby diversifying the tourist industry and extending the season. Managing Director Jonathan Gómez is convinced that this will give a major boost to the economy of the Island and that the beneficial effects will be felt by the local hotels, restaurants and cultural institutions. Positioning the ICB on the market and raising its profile as a serious contender in the tourism stakes is a matter of highest priority to Gómez.

The Bureau enjoys the support of the Island Council, the municipality of Santa Eulalia and the Fomento del Turismo (island tourism authority) as well as a number of private backers.

Carmen Ferrer, Island Councillor for Tourism, went to Madrid in late January to lobby for Ibiza being granted membership of the Spain Convention Bureau which belongs to the Federación Española de Municipios y Provincias (FEMP). The application will be considered at the Annual General Meeting to be held on 8th June in Zamora. 

Su gerente, Jonathan Gómez, está convencido de que, además de impulsar la economía de la isla, esta oferta también beneficiará a otros sectores como hoteles, restaurantes e instituciones culturales. Para Gómez, el posicionamiento en el mercado y el hecho de distinguirse como destino serio en este segmento turístico tienen la mayor prioridad.

La oficina cuenta con el apoyo del Consejo Insular, del Ayuntamiento de Santa Eulària y de las autoridades en materia de turismo (Fomento del Turismo), así como de empresas privadas.

Carmen Ferrer, Consejera Insular de Turismo, presentó a finales de enero en Madrid la candidatura de Ibiza para adherirse al Spain Convention Bureau, que pertenece a la Federación Española de Municipios y Provincias (FEMP). La solicitud se debatirá en la Asamblea General del organismo que se celebrará el próximo 8 de junio en Zamora. 

Geschäftsführer Jonathan Gómez ist davon, überzeugt, dass hierdurch zum einen die Wirtschaft der Insel gefördert und zum anderen auch weitere Sektoren wie Hotels, Restaurants oder kulturelle Einrichtungen von diesem Angebot profitieren werden. Die Positionierung auf dem Markt und die Profilierung als ernstzunehmende, seriöse Destination in diesem Tourismussektor haben Gómez zufolge höchste Priorität.

e’re on a top secret mission in February when we meet Gabriel Iglesias at Ascua’s. On the wall, a feisty bull flexes tensed muscles, as it peers down menacingly at Gabriel. Lightning-fast reactions, excitement and animal instinct characterise both bullfighting and the game of polo, which was first played around 2,600 years ago in the ancient country of Persia, now called Iran.

Gabriel, who used to play polo professionally, is president of the Balearic branch of the Real Federación Española de Polo and has made the sport fashionable on Ibiza with the Beach Polo event which has now been held for the last two years. In an exclusive interview, he told us all about Ibiza’s newly established polo club which has been set up near the Atzaró country house hotel. He told us that the soil of the 260 x 140 metre polo pitch (the minimum size is 240 x 130 metres) and the training area, the cancha de taqueo, which is also suitable for international events, had now been finally prepared and that only the grass remained to be sown.

Gabriel expects that the area will be a lush green before the end of May. “We purchased an extremely durable, very expensive Bermuda grass type, which requires very little water and can tolerate salt water. Our site is irrigated with water from the purification plant set up specifically for agricultural purposes,” said Gabriel. Now they just have to convince the people and institutions on the Island that this sport offers a fantastic way to liven up the low season, especially the

Gabriel, que llegó a practicar el polo como profesional, es presidente de la delegación balear de la Real Federación Española de Polo, y ha presentado en sociedad el polo en Ibiza con la celebración desde hace dos años del Ibiza Beach Polo. Él nos ha facilitado de primera mano toda la información sobre el recién fundado Polo Club de Ibiza, cuyas instalaciones se encuentran en las proximidades del hotel rural Atzaró. El suelo del terreno de juego de 260 x 140 metros (las dimensiones mínimas son 240 x 130 metros) y el del campo de entrenamiento, la llamada «cancha de taqueo», que también resulta apropiada para torneos internacionales, ya está preparado, nos explica. Solo queda plantar la hierba.

Gabriel cuenta con que el campo reluzca ya en mayo en un jugoso tono verde. «Hemos comprado una hierba especialmente resistente y muy cara del tipo Bermuda. Solo necesita un poco de agua y admite también el agua salada. Nuestras instalaciones se riegan con agua proveniente de la depuradora creada especialmente con fines agrícolas», subraya Gabriel. Exklusiv erfuhren wir von ihm alles über den neu gegründeten Polo Club von Ibiza, dessen Anlagen in der Nähe des Landhotels Atzaró liegen. Der Boden des 260 x 140 Meter (die Mindestgröße beträgt 240 x 130 Meter) großen Spielfelds und des Übungsfelds, der sogenannten „cancha de taqueo“, das sich auch für internationale Turniere eignet, sei nun vorbereitet, erklärte er uns. Nun müsse nur noch das Gras gesät werden. Gabriel rechnet damit, dass das Feld bereits im Mai in saftigem Grün erstrahlen wird. „Wir haben ein extra widerstandsfähiges, sehr teures Gras des Typs Bermuda gekauft. Es benötigt nur wenig Wasser und verträgt auch Salzwasser. Bewässert wird unsere Anlage aus einer Wasserreinigungsanlage, die speziell für landwirtschaftliche Zwecke geschaffen wurde“, betont Gabriel. Nun müssen nur noch die Bewohner und Institutionen der Insel davon überzeugt werden, dass dieser Sport eine fantastische Möglichkeit bietet, die Nebensaison – insbesondere die Monate März, April sowie einige

months of March, April plus a few weeks in May and the period from October to December. This is the time of year that many German, Swiss and British polo players are looking for alternatives, when snow makes training impossible in their own countries.

In future, they can train here and either ride their own or hire ponies; stabling for one’s own pony is available. “It’s a question of being able to utilise the perfect conditions here to prepare for the summer tournament season.” stresses Gabriel. Critics might argue that the idea is doomed to failure because there are hardly any flights to Ibiza at this time of the year, or at best only ones that involve changing planes. But Gabriel counters with a confident smile: “After all, we’re talking about wealthy tourists, who have no problem flying by private jet to Ibiza.” Another positive benefit is that the players always travel with their families, so that the hotel and catering sector will also reap the fruits of this new facility. Weather permitting, Gabriel plans to offer polo throughout the year. In addition, there will be a shop selling polo items and clothing by fashion designer Carol Azcona. Die Anlage bietet auch die Möglichkeit, das eigene Pony unterzustellen. „Es geht darum“, unterstreicht Gabriel, „dass sie sich hier perfekt auf die Turniersaison im Sommer vorbereiten können.“ Kritiker könnten zwar argumentieren, dass die Idee daran scheitere, dass es just in dieser Zeit eben kaum Flüge nach Ibiza oder nur solche mit Zwischenstopps gäbe. Doch Gabriel hält mit siegessicherem Lächeln dagegen: „Es handelt sich hier schließlich um finanzkräftige Touristen, für die es keinerlei Problem darstellt, mit ihrem Privatflugzeug nach Ibiza zu kommen." Eine weitere positive Begleiterscheinung: die Spieler fliegen stets mit ihrer Familie, so dass auch der Hotel- und Gastronomiesektor die Früchte dieser neuen Einrichtung ernten werden. Wenn es das Wetter erlaubt, plant Gabriel, das Polospielen das ganze Jahr über anzubieten. Darüber hinaus wird es ein Geschäft mit Poloartikeln und -kleidung der Designerin Carol Azcona geben. he first beach polo tournament ever in Balearic Islands took place on Ibiza in June 2010, following in the footsteps of cities that are already popular for the sport – Dubai, Miami and Punta del Este. Internationally renowned players put on a fine display of their skills for the first time on the Island. The following year, the sport’s best polo players competed before a distinguished audience of well-known celebs, Spanish fashion designer Custo Dalmau, British singer James Blunt and basketball player Rudy Fernández – to name but a few.

President of 4Polo, Gabriel Iglesias, is certain thatt Ibiza Beach Polo has now become a ‘must’ for internationally renowned polo players. He thinks that Ibiza is a very special venue for the sport. The third Ibiza Beach Polo Cup, sponsored by Air Europa, takes place this year from 21st to 24th June on a pitch to be laid out next to the Congress Palace in Santa Eulalia. The approximately 100 by 40 metre polo pitch is prepared by dressing compacted soil with a layer of sand. A match, in which two teams of three players compete against one another, consists of four chukkas (period of play) that last from five and a half to seven and a half minutes. There will be six matches in all, with four teams, twelve players and 64 polo ponies.

Playing polo on sand rather than on grass is much harder on the ponies, so they will only be used for short periods during a match to ensure that they are not unduly stressed. A player needs at least two horses for a tournament. n

Three matches are planned for each day. The final encounter should prove to be quite spectacular, a real highlight, since it will take place at sunset.

The pitch will be a catwalk for fashion shows in between individual matches. A real boost to San Antonio’s image. At this year’s FITUR tourism fair, City Councillor for Tourism and Finance, Vicent Ribas Torres, described Ibiza Sunset Polo as an important event, helping not only to extend the season but also to portray San Antonio as a place that is not exclusively dominated by electronic music and nightlife. In addition, the occasion had the potential to raise the town’s profile as an attractive location for nautical tourism and sport.

Eva Marquez from 4Polo Management, organiser of the tournament: “We want to help San Antonio improve its image by staging this Sunset Tournament.” Gabriel Iglesias added that the Sunset Tournament, marking the end of the season, could also be seen in the context of paying homage to the origins of the Argentine polo match in Piñamar, in which two players were likewise matched against two opponents; participants also used to meet then to compete on the beach at sunset.

Gabriel emphasised his keenness to involve the Island’s different communities in this new venture, so that everyone could reap the benefits. The polo ball has been set rolling, yet one thing remained obvious to Gabriel: “The people of Ibiza don’t yet appreciate polo’s upmarket image; the Island is set to become another classy location where this elegant sport of kings is played.” n

Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (Zaragoza 1746Bordeaux 1828) will be the main attraction of the acts to commemorate the bicentennial of the first Spanish constitution, signed in Cádiz in 1812 and popularly known as 'La Pepa'. The S'Alamera cultural centre will host an exhibition of famous paintings by the artist. At the same time a conference cycle and an engraving workshop will be held. It is, without a doubt, the great cultural event of spring in Ibiza.

Por otro, una caminata colectiva bajo la luna llena para ver los almendros del valle de Santa Inés la noche del 10.

El Ayuntamiento de Ibiza y el Consell Insular han convocado el Circuito Oficial de Pádel, en cuya edición de 2012 se celebrarán un total de ocho torneos en distintos puntos de la isla. El evento deportivo contó este año con una madrina de excepción, la número uno del mundo de este deporte, Carolina Navarro, quien estuvo jugando en las pistas de Es Vivé. En marzo, se celebrará el torneo 'Club de Campo' y en abril, del 14 al 22, el 'Sport Center'.

Para festejar el cuarto de siglo se ha organizado un recital a cargo del poeta y escritor Antonio Colinas acompañado por el violín de Linas Tur el día 16. También está previsto un ciclo de cortometrajes, en el mismo auditorio el día 21. Realmente parece que el nuevo gobierno insular se preocupa por la cultura.

Diesen Frühling gibt es auf Ibiza ein weiteres besonderes Jubiläum: das 25ste Jubiläum der Biblioteca del Consell Insular. Um dieses Vierteljahrhundert zu feiern, gibt es am 16.03. einen Gedichteabend des Poeten Antonio Colinas, mit der Begleitung von Lina Tur und ihrer Geige. Außerdem werden am 21.03. im selben Saal eine Reihe von Kurzfilmen gezeigt.

Dies zeigt uns deutlich, daß die neue Inselregierung der Kultur einen wichtigen Stellenwert zuschreibt.

All you have to do to realize the huge popularity of cycling in Ibiza is to go for a drive around the island on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. Of course you don’t have to be a professional to get on a bicycle, at least not when it comes to the 'Rutas Cicloturistas Populares', that will be held in March in Es Codolar and S'Estanyol. To take part there are just three conditions: you must be older than 12, be in reasonable physical shape and be keen to ride a bicycle.

Para participar solo tres condiciones: tener más de 12 años, un mínimo de forma física y ganas de pedalear.

Man braucht nur an einem Samstagnachmittag oder Sonntagmorgen eine Runde um Ibiza zu drehen, um zu sehen, wie groß die FahrradLeidenschaft ist. Keinesfalls muss man ein Profi sein, um den Drahtesel zu besteigen, zumindest bei den 'Rutas Cicloturistas Populares', die im März durch Es Codelar und im April durch S’Estanyol führen. As is well known, being consistent is one of the keys of success. By way of promoting and sharing exhibitions and fashion shows by local artists and international guests, Atzaró has turned into a space for creation in Ibiza. Painting, photography and fashion are generally the areas of activity that recur frequently in its annual programming. The 2012 cycle starts on March 16 when the agrotourism will open its doors. The "spring party" is on the 25th.

Ya se sabe que la constancia es una de las claves del éxito. A base de promover y compartir exposiciones y desfiles de artistas locales e invitados internacionales, Atzaró se ha convertido en una espacio para la creación en Ibiza.

Pintura, fotografía y moda son generalmente las áreas de actividad más recurrentes en su programación anual. Comenzará el ciclo 2012 el día 16 de marzo cuando el agroturismo abra sus puertas. La 'fiesta de la primavera', el 25.

Die Konstanz ist – wie man weiß – der Schlüssel zum Erfolg. Indem das Atzaró Ausstellungen und Modenschauen gefördert hat, ist es zu einem speziellen Ort für Kreativität auf Ibiza geworden. It’s already a tradition. Blue Marlin Ibiza will open its doors on 1 April. The new season is full of novelties in the beach club that is on the way to becoming – if it isn’t already – the Mediterranean’s 'hotspot'. Around 1,500 people are expected to take part in this trial sponsored by Red Bull and with which Ibiza restates its leadership as a sporting destination. It is an ultra-long trial that combines three modes: 'trail running' (60-70 km), 'mountain bike' (100 km) and open-air swimming (10.6 km).The athletes can compete individually in one of the three trials or in the three as part of a team. ast year in Ibiza in the springtime, Tom Leather, the photographer and man of action, and the editor of IBIZA STYLE, Jürgen Bushe, had a great idea while talking about the similarities between Ibiza and Japan at the moment: “both are islands, the white that symbolizes the white island is the colour of mourning in the land of the rising sun and, according to Nostradamus, Ibiza will be the last refuge on earth.” The outcome was White Island Project Ibiza – Japan which materialized as a benefit initiative to help the victims of Fukushima.

Time flies and this March it will be one year since the catastrophe. There is still a great deal to do and White Island Project continues its drive to promote global solidarity contributing its grain of sand by means of a fundraising exhibition. All funds will go to the Japanese Red Cross which, along with Pioneer Tokyo, has created a rescue fund for those affected.

Joining the project is Alecs Navío – an experienced artist and creator of the contemporary

El tiempo vuela y este mes de marzo se cumple un año de la catástrofe, pero aún queda mucho por hacer y WHITE ISLAND PROYECT sigue en su afán de promover la solidaridad global, aportando su granito de arena a través de una exposición con fines benéficos, cuya recaudación irá destinada a la Cruz roja de Japón que, junto con Pioneer Tokio, ha creado un fondo de ayuda a los afectados.

Die weiße Farbe, das Symbol der weißen Insel Ibiza ist die Farbe der Trauer im Land der aufgehenden Sonne. Nostradamus zufolge soll Ibiza der letzte Zufluchtsort der Erde sein wir. So wurde das Projekt „WHITE ISLAND PROJECT Ibiza – Japan“ ins Leben gerufen als eine Benefizinitiative zu Gunsten der Opfer von Fukushima.

Die Zeit verfliegt nur so, und diesen März jährt sich die Fukushima – Katastrophe. Weit davon entfernt in Vergessenheit zu geraten, gibt es immer noch sehr viel zu tun, und WHITE ISLAND PROJECT möchte weiterhin die globale Solidarität födern, indem es mit einer Benefizausstellung ein wenig dazu beiträgt. Die Einnahmen gehen an das Rote Kreuz in Japan, das zusammen mit Pioneer Tokio einen Hilfsfonds eingerichtet hat.

art gallery, Bullit de Blau, a lively gallery that is well-integrated in modern society. He will be letting the project use his space for the exhibition of photographs, paintings, Japanese dance and projections.

Wabiza, a cultural association that blends the Wabi-Sabi tradition with the Ibizan and which will provide Butoh dance shows, is also taking part, there are paintings by Blanko made using the Sumi-e technique and a range of different art installations. What is more, a number of extraordinary bonsai trees and works created over the course of the year for the White Island Project, such as a painting by the well-known Toledo-born painter based in Ibiza, Antonio Villanueva and the photographs of Tom Leather will be on show.

March the 1st is when the exhibition will commence with the traditional Vernissage and on the 15th at x:xx there will be a benefit act to commemorate the fatal event in Fukushima at which we will be able to see an exhibition of Butoh, traditional Japanese dance, as well as the projection of a documentary. esús de Miguel ist 1975 in einem kleinen Dorf in Palencia geboren, er hat sich in Salamanca dem Studium der Schönen Künste gewidmet, und ist dann einer Liebe folgend nach Ibiza gekommen. Mittlerweile lebt er schon über zehn Jahre hier auf der Insel.

Die Bildhauerei hat ihm die Türen zum Ausdruck seiner Kunst geöffnet, und auch die Malerei hat ihn gefesselt, aber er mag es nicht, in eine Kategorie gedrängt oder anderweitig eingeengt zu werden. Er genießt es, die etablierten Regeln zu überspringen, er ist ein Anti-KunstKünstler, die Grenzen beflügeln seine Fantasie und ermöglichen es ihm, die Normen jeder künstlerischen Disziplin zu brechen. All’ das, was ihm in die Hände fällt, verwandelt er in ein kreatives Medium. Gib’ ihm eine Kamera, und er wird ein außergewöhnliches Video kreieren, stell’ ihm Software zur Verfügung, und er wird jeden mit einer ganz einzigartigen Musik überraschen; das Mittel ist es, dass ihn bewegt.

Seine Lust am Experimentieren mit den verschiedenen Disziplinen haben ihn vor einem Jahr dazu gebracht, zusammen mit Al Velilla die Plattenfirma Modern Electrics zu gründen.

Seine surrealistischen Gemälde sind durch die lebendigen Farben und die Vermischung verschiedener Materialien geprägt, zum Beispiel Tinte, Aquarellfarben, Sprays, Öl − oder Acrylfarben. Mit diesen Gemälden möchte er unterschwellige Botschaften vermitteln, ohne zu offensichtlich zu sein. Jesús de Miguel ist ein rebellischer und unruhiger Maler; während seine Bilder noch trocknen, sucht er schon neue Formen des künstlerischen Ausdrucks.

Jesús meint, dass die elitäre Kunst heutzutage keinen Sinn hat: „Meine Kunst ist nicht nur für die Privilegierten”.

Wir hatten das Glück, sein Atelier besuchen und uns mit ihm unterhalten zu können.

esús de Miguel was born in 1975 in a village in Palencia, studied fine arts in Salamanca, came to Ibiza for love and has now been living here for 10 years.

Sculpture provided his entry point into artistic expression and painting captivated him but he does not like being pigeonholed and loves to break the established rules. He is an anti-art artist; limitations lead his imagination to explode with the possibilities of breaking the rules of every artistic discipline. Anything that falls into his hands he turns into a creative medium.

Give him a camera and he’ll make a video, give him software and he will surprise you with music, the medium is what moves him. His desire to experiment with a range of disciplines led him to set up the record label, Modern Electrics, along with Al Velilla a year ago.

His surrealistic paintings are characterized by lively colours and the combination of different materials such as water colours, ink, sprays, oils and acrylics. By means of these mediums he wants to send out subliminal messages whilst avoiding what is obvious. He is a rebellious and restless painter who – while his paintings are drying – looks for new forms of artistic creation. He believes that “elitist artists don’t make sense anymore. Art just for the aristocrats doesn’t exist any longer”.

I had the pleasure of visiting his studio and talking to him.

esús de Miguel nació en 1975 en un pueblo de Palencia , estudió Bellas Artes en Salamanca, vino a Ibiza por amor y ya lleva 10 años viviendo aquí.

La escultura le abrió las puertas de la expresión artística y la pintura le enamoró, pero no le gusta encorsetarse, se deleita saltándose las reglas establecidas, es un artista anti-arte, las limitaciones hacen volar su imaginación con las posibilidades de romper las normas de cada disciplina artística. Todo aquello que cae en sus manos lo transforma en medio creativo. Dale una cámara y hará video, déjale un software y te sorprenderá con música, el medio es lo que le mueve. Sus ganas de experimentar con distintas disciplinas le han llevado a montar, hace un año el sello discográfico Modern Electrics, junto con Al Velilla.

Sus cuadros surrealistas se caracterizan por vivos colores y la combinación de distintos materiales, como la acuarela, la tinta, el spray, el óleo y el acrílico. Con ellos quiere transmitir mensajes subliminales, pero evitando la obviedad. Es un pintor rebelde e inquieto que, mientras se secan sus cuadros, busca nuevas formas de creación artística. Opina que “el arte elitista no tiene sentido ahora. Yo no hay arte solo para los nobles.”

Tuve el placer de visitar su estudio y hablar con él.

WHY DID YOU BEGIN TO PAINT?

Pues porque tenía que hacerlo para clase y me gustó mucho. Yo empecé con la escultura pero pintar me permitía más, me daba más posibilidades. Al final ha terminado siendo mi oficio.

Well, because I had to do it for school and I really liked it. I began with sculpture but painting gave me more leeway, more possibilities. In the end it has ended up being my profession.

¿POR QUÉ EMPEZASTE A PINTAR?

Einfach, weil ich es für das Studium machen

musste, und es hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Ich habe mit der Bildhauerei angefangen, aber die Malerei hat mir mehr Möglichkeiten eröffnet.

Im Endeffekt ist daraus meine Hauptbeschäftigung geworden.

BETRACHTEST DU DICH ALS KÜNSTLER ODER EHER ALS REINER MALER?

DO YOU SEE YOURSELF MORE AS AN ARTIST OR A PAINTER?

¿TE CONSIDERAS ARTISTA O MÁS BIEN PINTOR?

Good question. Painting is my medium, I am comfortable with it because I believe it is something I do more or less well but precisely because of that I don’t want to be a painter.

If you have mastered painting, you can’t let it free. Which doesn’t mean I have mastered it, either. It is the medium with which I feel comfortable now. If I had a garden, I’d probably be making sculptures and if I had a garden with a swimming pool, well, I’d be lounging about (he says laughing).

I am a method painter because I don’t know how to write. Otherwise, I’d definitely be a poet.

Painting is universal, it’s more primitive, more passionate. With sculpting you have to have other knowledge, you start out with the same passion but when it comes to carrying it out you have to apply technique so that it doesn’t fall down, among other things.

Buena pregunta. La pintura es mi medio, me resulta cómoda porque creo que más o menos la controlo bien, pero precisamente por eso, no quiero ser pintor.

La pintura, por dominarla, no puedes hacerla libre. Que no es que la domine, tampoco. Es el medio con el que me siento cómodo ahora. Si tuviera jardín, lo mismo estaba haciendo escultura, y si tuviera jardín con piscina, pues estaría tumbado (dice entre risas).

Soy pintor por método, porque no sé escribir si no seguramente sería poeta.

La pintura es universal, es más primitiva, se hace con más pasión. Con la escultura tienes que tener otros conocimientos, la pasión con la que empiezas es la misma, pero a la hora de ejecutar tienes que aplicar la técnica, para que no se te caiga, entre otras cosas.

Nothing, everything, I don’t know, wouldn’t know how to put it into words. Women and wine (laughs)...I don’t know how I start doing things, everything inspires me. At times it depends on what I have at hand, the kind of

Nada, todo, jeje, no sé, no sabría decirte. Las mujeres y el vino (ríe)… no sé como empiezo a hacer la cosas, me inspira todo. A veces es lo que tengo a mano, el tipo de tela, el papel, la pintura, un programa (software)...

Hablo mucho a la sociedad de forma

Das ist eine gute Frage. Die Malerei ist das Mittel, das ich hauptsächlich benutze, sie liegt mir sehr, weil ich sie – glaube ich − ziemlich gut beherrsche, aber genau deswegen möchte ich nicht als Maler angesehen werden.

Die Malerei kann nicht frei sein, wenn man sie beherrscht oder kontrolliert. Ich dominiere sie auch nicht. Es handelt sich einfach um das Mittel meines künstlerischen Ausdrucks, mit dem ich mich im Moment am wohlsten fühle.

Wenn ich einen Garten hätte, könnte ich mich genauso gut der Bildhauerei widmen, und wenn ich einen Garten mit Schwimmbad hätte, dann würde ich mich am Becken sonnen (er lacht).

Die Malerei ist universell, sie ist primitiver, und man widmet sich ihr mit einer größeren Leidenschaft. Bei der Bildhauerei muss man speziellere Kenntnisse haben, die Leidenschaft, mit der man ein Werk beginnt, ist zwar dieselbe, aber im Moment der Ausführung muss die Technik angewandt werden, zum Beispiel, damit nicht alles umfällt.

I talk indirectly to society a lot, about meanspiritedness, about human suffering, the technological revolution and our love-hate relationship with it. I try to be subtle. If I wanted to be obvious, I’d make a billboard. If I can easily see the message that comes across, if a message is too plain to see, I conceal it. I try to get the person who’s looking at what I do to come to their own conclusions.

SOMEONE WHISPERED IN MY EAR THAT – IN ADDITION TO PAINTING – YOU ARE REALLY GOOD AT MAKING VIDEOS.

It’s like music; while the paint is drying, well, I do other things. I used to work in TV when I was living in Madrid and did lots of post-production work. On arriving here I also did the visuals for Pachá. And then, without wanting to, these videos came out. They’re curious little things; I practically don’t use recorded images.

But I follow the same rules as I do when I’m

ME HA DICHO UN PAJARITO QUE ADEMÁS DE PINTAR, HACES UNOS VIDEOS MUY BUENOS.

Es como con la música, cuando se tiene que secar la pintura, pues hago otras cosas. Yo antes trabajaba en TV cuando vivía en Madrid y hacia mucha post-producción, al llegar aquí también hice visuales para Pachá. Y, sin querer, me han salido estos videos, son cosillas curiosas, casi no uso imagen grabada. Pero sigo las mismas pautas que con la pintura. Diferentes materiales, diferente medio, pero el proceso creativo es todo igual. No es que quiera transmitir nada específico con ellos. El video es mucho más oscuro que mi pintura, por no ser chillón.

Ich versuche, mit der Gesellschaft auf indirekte Weise zu kommunizieren, und zwar über Engherzigkeit, die menschliche Misere, die Revolution der Technik oder die Beziehung zwischen Liebe und Hass. Ich versuche, die Dinge nicht auf eine offensichtliche Art und Weise zu sagen, da könnte ich auch einfach ein Schild malen. Trotzdem sehe ich ganz klar, was ein Werk ausdrücken soll. Wenn die Botschaft zu offensichtlich ist, versuche ich, sie zu verschleiern. Ich möchte, dass derjenige, der meine Werke sieht, seine eigenen Schlüsse zieht.

MAN HAT MIR ERZÄHLT, DASS DU NEBEN DEN GEMÄLDEN AUCH SEHR GUTE VIDEOS MACHST.

Es ist wie mit der Musik; wenn die Bilder trocknen müssen, mache ich in der Zwischenzeit etwas anderes. Als ich noch in Madrid lebte, habe ich beim Fernsehen gearbeitet und die Post-Produktion gemacht. Als ich nach Ibiza kam, habe ich hier auch Videos und visuelle Anzeigen für Pachá gemacht, und ohne es recht zu wollen, sind diese Videos dabei herausgekommen, es handelt sich um eigentümliche Sächelchen, ich benutze kaum aufgenommene Bilder. Aber ich folge den gleichen Konzepten wie bei der Malerei: verschiedene Materialien, verschiedene Mittel, aber der kreative Prozess ist derselbe. Ich möchte eigentlich nichts Spezielles mit diesen Videos mitteilen. Die Videos sind viel dunkler als meine Malerei, nicht so farbenfroh oder grell.

Es gibt hier viele Leute, die alles kontrollieren, aber man sieht sie kaum; ich meine damit, dass es wenig Kritik gibt, genauso wie bei „Des Kaisers neue Kleider“, wo einer sagt, dass es in Ordnung ist, und dann alle genauso reagieren. THE BEST DJS FROM AROUND THE WORLD COME HERE. IS THERE THE SAME LEVEL OF INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE WHEN IT COMES TO ART?

This is an island of music, there are many artists but they don’t have a high profile here. I mean, they make a living elsewhere and come here to paint, which is all well and good but there’s no real movement here. It is very local and that is fine, I defend it because, naturally, the person who wants to do something else, the one who wants to be somewhere where there is more activity, well, they go to New York.

WHAT PROJECTS ARE IN THE PIPELINE, OR ALREADY ON THE GO?

I would like to do an installation on a very big wall with 80 paintings.

I am also making a kind of fanzine, well, more than a fanzine...they are artistic capsules with feedback. I am announcing it from Ibiza and people from all over Spain are taking part.

Mmm, no sé, quizás que los que controlan, que salgan a la luz. Aquí hay mucha gente que controla bastante, pero se les ve poco, me refiero a que hay poca crítica, como con el traje invisible del Emperador, que uno dice que está bien y el resto opina igual. Estaría bien que esos que saben mucho, hablasen algo más.

AQUÍ VIENEN LOS MEJORES DJS DE TODO EL MUNDO ¿HAY TAMBIÉN ESE NIVEL DE EXPOSICIÓN INTERNACIONAL EN ARTE?

Esta es una isla de música, hay muchos artistas pero aquí se mueven poco. Vamos, que se ganan la vida en otro lado y aquí vienen a pintar, que está guay, pero aquí no hay movimiento real. Es muy local, y eso está muy bien, yo lo defiendo, porque claro, el que quiere plantearse otra cosa, el que quiere estar en un lugar con más actividad, pues se va a Nueva York. ¿QUÉ PROYECTOS TIENES EN MENTE, O YA EN EL HORNO?

Me gustaría hacer una instalación en una pared muy grande, con 80 cuadros.

También estoy haciendo como un fanzine, pero no es un fanzine… son capsulas artísticas retroalimentadas. Hago la convocatoria desde Ibiza y participan en toda España. La idea es viajar desde una isla a otros lugares, con ensayos, looks para visual jockeys, fotografía... Se llama TAG, una cápsula multimedia que verá la luz en mayo.

HIER NACH IBIZA KOMMEN DIE BESTEN DJ’S DER WELT. GIBT ES DIESES AUSSERGEWÖHNLICHE NIVEAU AUCH BEI DEN INTERNATIONALEN KUNSTAUSSTELLUNGEN?

Ibiza ist eine Insel der Musik. Es gibt zwar auch viele Künstler, aber es gibt keine wirklich große Kunstbewegung. Viele Künstler verdienen ihr Geld anderswo und kommen hierher, um zu malen, das ist super, aber es gibt hier eben keine wirkliche Kunstbewegung. Es handelt sich eher um lokale Künstler, und das ist auch in Ordnung so, ich finde das gut; aber klar, derjenige, der höher hinaus will, der einen Ort mit mehr künstlerischer Aktivität sucht, der geht eben nach New York.

WAS FÜR PROJEKTE HAST DU AKTUELL IM KOPF, ODER SCHON IN ARBEIT?

Ich würde liebend gern etwas ganz Großes auf einer Wand machen, so um die 80 m² groß.

Außerdem mache ich auch ein Fanzine, das aber kein richtiges Fanzine ist... es sind künstlerische Kapseln mit der Rückmeldung anderer Künstler. Ich lanciere die Initiative von Ibiza aus, und es nehmen Menschen aus ganz Spanien teil. Die Idee besteht darin, von der Insel aus zu anderen Orten zu reisen und Essays, Looks für Visual Jockeys, Fotos, etc. zu verbreiten. Die Idee heißt TAG, eine MultimediaKapsel, die im Mai das Licht der Welt erblickt.

iz Kueneke is one of those people whom it is worthwhile getting to know since she brings a different point of view. It is as if she had lent you her glasses and, wow! you see the world in a different way. She is genuine and deep. Born in Chicago, she has lived all over the USA, Ecuador, France, in Barcelona and, for more than a year now, in Ibiza. She confesses that ever since she discovered the island, she hasn’t wanted to live anywhere else.

Her desire to discover the relationships that people have with our environment and curiosity to learn about new peoples and cultures have led her to create Tejido Urbano, an interactive initiative, made with much artistry, in which the participants sew their stories onto maps embroidered by Liz. The Tejido Urbano of Ibiza began in 2011 and will come to an end in a few months time with an exhibition. Up until now more than 400 people have taken part and the maps embroidered

by Liz have been shown in Ibiza, Santa Eulalia, Benirrás, San Miguel, Punta Arabí, Es Canar, Es Cubells, San José, San Antonio, Sant Jordi… and continue to fly.

Liz has embroidered the maps of Formentera, Ibiza, Ibiza town, San Antonio, Santa Eulalia and a mapamundi. She travels around the Pitiusas with her frame at the ready so that anyone who wants can illustrate with colour backstitches those locations that left a mark on their lives. Each stitch is a love story, an adventure or misadventure and she keeps them all in a notebook.

iz Kueneke es una de esas personas que merece la pena conocer, aporta un punto de vista diferente, es de las que te prestan sus gafas y ¡oh! Ves un mundo de otro color. Es auténtica, profunda. Nacida en Chicago, ha vivido por todo EEUU, Ecuador, Francia, Barcelona y, desde hace más de un año, en Ibiza. Confiesa que desde que ha descubierto esta isla, no quiere vivir en ningún otro lugar.

Sus ganas de ahondar en las relaciones que las personas tenemos con nuestro entorno y la curiosidad de conocer nuevos pueblos y culturas le han llevado a crear Tejido Urbano, una iniciativa interactiva, hecha con mucho arte, en la que los participantes cosen sus historias en mapas bordados por Liz. El Tejido Urbano de Ibiza empezó en agosto de 2011 y concluirá dentro de unos meses con una exposición. Hasta el momento han participado más de 400 personas y los mapas bordados de Liz, se han posado en Ibiza, Santa Eulalia, Benirrás, San Miguel, Punta Arabí, Es Canar, Es Cubells, San José, San Antonio, Sant Jordi… y siguen volando.

iz ist einer von diesen Menschen, die immer einen anderen Blickpunkt beisteuern, es ist so, als wenn sie Dir ihre Brille leiht und sofort siehst Du die Welt in einer anderen Farbe. Sie ist authentisch, tiefgründig und vielschichtig.

Liz ist in Chicago geboren, und hat überall in den USA und in Ecuador, Frankreich und Barcelona gelebt. Seit über einem Jahr lebt sie jetzt auf Ibiza. Seit sie diese Insel kennengelernt hat, möchte sie nirgendwo anders mehr leben.

Ihr Bestreben, die Beziehungen der Menschen zu ihrer Umwelt zu vertiefen, und die Neugier, neue Völker und Kulturen kennenzulernen, haben sie dazu inspiriert “Tejido urbano” zu erschaffen. Es handelt sich um eine künstlerische, interaktive Initiative, bei der die Teilnehmer ihre Geschichten auf die von Liz bestickten Landkarten nähen.

“Tejido Urbano” von Ibiza wurde im August 2011 begonnen und wird in ein paar Monaten mit einer Ausstellung beendet. Bis zum heutigen Tag haben über 400 Menschen an diesem besonderen Projekt teilgenommen, und die bestickten Landkarten von Liz haben bis heute Ibiza, Santa Eulalia, Benirrás, San Miguel, Punta Arabí, Es Canar, Es Cubells, San José, San Antonio und Sant Jordi beehrt…und sie werden noch weiter fliegen.

Die Künstlerin reist nicht mit einem “Lonely Planet” unter dem Arm, sondern sie bereist die Welt in ihrem eigenen Tempo und in Begleitung ihres Heftes mit den markierten Meilensteinen, die ihr magische Orte offenbaren, die in keinem Reiseführer auftauchen.

Im Gespräch mit ihr haben wir eine ganz neue Form entdeckt, versteckte Plätze dieser Welt kennenzulernen: WAS HAT SIE DAZU INSPIRIERT, “TEJIDO URBANO” ZU ERSCHAFFEN?

Ich habe mich immer für die Bedeutung der versteckten Ecken und Winkel der Städte interessiert, in denen ich gelebt habe. Mein besonderes Interesse gilt den Beziehungen der Menschen zu ihrer Umwelt, und ich möchte das Unsichtbare und Ungreifbare sichtbar machen – „Tejido Urbano“ ist das Ergebnis dieser Neugier.

WAS ERWARTEN SIE SICH VON DIESER INITIATIVE?

This highly inspired artist does not travel with a “Lonely Planet”; she moves around the world with her notebook full of notes about backstitches which open up to her magical spots that do not appear in any guide for travellers.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO DO TEJIDO URBANO?

Siempre he estado interesada en los significados ocultos de los rincones de las ciudades en las que he vivido. Mi interés radica en la relación que la gente tiene con su entorno y en visualizar lo invisible, lo intangible… y Tejido Urbano es el resultado de esa curiosidad.

I have always been interested in the hidden meaning of the nooks and crannies of the cities in which I have lived. My interest is based on the relationship that people have with their surroundings and in visualizing what cannot be seen, what is intangible… and Tejido Urbano is the result of that curiosity.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS INITIATIVE?

I want to offer a hands-on experience to the inhabitants of Ibiza that allows them to reflect on their own use of space. To inspire people so that they feel responsible for their surroundings and to promote dialogue about Ibiza, about how to change or preserve the island in a positive, beneficial way for its inhabitants. To compile and process information about those places that have to be conserved, those that have to be altered or improved... and, of course, also to learn which sites are magical for some people.

IN WHAT WAY IS THE TEJIDO URBANO OF IBIZA DIFFERENT WHEN COMPARED TO THAT OF OTHER PLACES?

It is the first time that I have done this in an entire province which includes urban and rural zones. It is not limited to one place alone but, rather, a whole island. This brings greater variety. What is more, there are many people here

¿QUÉ ESPERAS LOGRAR CON ESTA INICIATIVA?

Quiero ofrecer una experiencia participativa a los habitantes de Ibiza, que les permita reflexionar sobre su propio uso del espacio. Inspirar a las personas para que se sientan responsables con su entorno y promover dialogo sobre Ibiza, sobre como cambiar o mantener la isla de forma positiva y beneficiosa para sus habitantes. Recopilar y procesar información sobre aquellos lugares que deben de conservarse, los que hay que cambiar o mejorar… y por supuesto, también saber qué lugares son mágicos para algunas personas. ¿EN QUÉ SE DIFERENCIA EL TEJIDO URBANO DE IBIZA CON RESPECTO AL DE OTROS LUGARES?

Es la primera vez que hago esto en toda una provincia, donde se incluyen zonas urbanas y zonas rurales, no se limita solo a un lugar, sino a toda la isla. Esto aporta más variedad. Además, aquí vive mucha gente de otros países y por ello, para este proyecto, he bordado un mapa del mundo, para que estas personas pue-

Ich möchte den Bewohnern von Ibiza eine interaktive Erfahrung zugänglich machen, die es ihnen ermöglicht, über ihre eigene Nutzung des Umfelds nachzudenken. Ich möchte die Menschen dazu inspirieren, sich ihrer Umwelt gegenüber verantwortlich zu fühlen und den Dialog über Ibiza zu fördern – wie wäre es möglich, die Insel positiv und zu Gunsten der Bewohner zu verändern oder zu erhalten?

Außerdem möchte ich Informationen über Orte zusammentragen und bearbeiten, die erhalten, verändert oder verbessert werden sollten. Natürlich möchte ich auch erfahren, welche Orte magisch und bezaubernd für einige Personen sind.

WAS UNTERSCHEIDET DAS „TEJIDO URBANO“ IBIZAS VON ANDEREN?

Es ist das erste Mal, dass ich so etwas in einer ganzen Provinz mache, wobei städtische und ländliche Gebiete berücksichtigt werden; es ist nicht nur auf einen Ort begrenzt, sondern erstreckt sich auf eine ganze Insel. Dies bedeutet eine größere Vielfalt. Außerdem leben hier viele Menschen aus anderen Ländern, und deshalb habe ich für dieses Projekt auch eine Weltkarte gestickt, so dass diese Menschen die Orte auf Ibiza mit ihren Ursprungsorten in Verbindung bringen können.

GIBT ES SEHR GROSSE UNTERSCHIEDE ZWISCHEN DEN MENSCHEN AUS IBIZA UND DENEN AUS DEM REST DER WELT?

Es hat mich außerordentlich überrascht, wie offen die Menschen sein können, sowohl auf Ibiza, wie auch in den anderen Städten, in denen ich ein „Tejido Urbano“ aufgebaut habe.

Das Spezielle an Ibiza ist, dass es so viele verschiedene Nationalitäten gibt, so dass ich eine außergewöhnliche Mischung an Reaktionen beobachten konnte, eine Art Zusammenfassung des Verhaltens auf der ganzen Welt.

ARE THE PEOPLE OF IBIZA VERY DIFFERENT WITH RESPECT TO THE REST OF THE WORLD?

I have been surprised to find out how open people can be both in Ibiza and in the other cities in which I have set up the Tejido Urbano. The funny thing about Ibiza is that there is such a range of nationalities, that I have seen a mix of reactions like a compendium of the attitudes that I have observed all over the world.

For example, in India the men took part and sewed without any problem whatsoever. In Ecuador, on the other hand, the men were reluctant because sewing is something that the women do there. Here I have come across both attitudes.

DO PEOPLE TELL YOU THEIR STORIES OR JUST SEW THEM?

Lo curioso de Ibiza es que hay tanta variedad de nacionalidades, que he visto una mezcla de reacciones, como un compendio de las actitudes que he observado a lo largo del mundo.

Por ejemplo, en India los hombres participaban y cosían sin ningún problema, sin embargo en Ecuador, los hombres se mostraban reticentes porque el coser es cosa de mujeres. Aquí me he encontrado con ambas posturas. ¿LA GENTE TE CUENTA SUS HISTORIAS O SOLO LAS COSEN?

Manchmal erzählen mir die Menschen sehr private Dinge aus ihrem Leben, dann wieder eröffnen sie mir Orte der Insel, von denen ich noch nie gehört hatte.

I always ask the people taking part the reason for their embroidery. It is always the most interesting thing for me, the stories that are concealed behind the spots marked on the map. At times they tell me very private things about their lives; at others, they reveal to me places on the island which I have never heard about.

The history of Ibiza is written in many languages, it is what makes this place so special, so free, but it is people like Liz, people with vivid imaginations and the desire to form part of the local culture that have forged the legend of the white island’s magic. Catering has been a big earner for the restaurant over the past three years. When VW held an international presentation in Ibiza last autumn, the Casa Colonial team laid on coffee and pastries for 500 people during a break.

With such major events, good planning and perfect coordination are essential. The restaurant also supplied round-the-clock catering for the film crew of the ZDF production „Das Mädchen auf dem Meeresgrund“ (The Girl on the Seabed). All the meals had to be prepared on board the yacht that was being used.

Customers can opt for the specialties of the restaurant – a fusion of Asian and French cuisine – or put together their own menu. Modern

hat does a good manager think to himself when he notices that the creativity of his protégé is being ground down by the daily routine? Exactly! Time to head off for the Island. Mousse T has the good fortune to have such a manager and also a supportive wife.

The two of them insisted that he took a twoweek break in Ibiza during the month of February. And, quite by chance (?), they fixed up accommodation for him in the 400-year old villa of Henry Sarmiento, owner of the internationally acclaimed Sonic Vista Studios.

Mousse T (born 1966 in Hagen, Germany) is, of course, familiar with Ibiza from previous stints as a DJ: “I’ve played all the great clubs.

But I was always here for such a short time that I hardly got to see anything of the Island.”

This time, he was determined to draw inspiration from the beauty of the studio’s surroundings, to clear his head and to order his ideas for album number three.

Mousse T. tiene la suerte de poder contar tanto con un buen manager como con una gran esposa. Ellos fueron los que le regalaron una estancia de dos semanas en Ibiza en febrero. Por pura casualidad, le encontraron alojamiento en la antigua mansión de más de 400 años de Henry Sarmiento, propietario de los internacionalmente reconocidos Sonic Vista Studios.

Naturalmente, Mousse T., nacido en 1966 en Hagen, Alemania, ya conocía Ibiza por sus pasadas actuaciones como DJ «... en todos los alucinantes clubs que hay aquí. Pero me quedaba tan poco tiempo, que prácticamente no conocí nada de la isla». Por eso mismo, esta vez aprovechó la belleza del paisaje en el que se encuentra el estudio para dejarse inspirar, despejar su cabeza y reunir ideas para poder terminar su tercer álbum de estudio.

Beide zusammen hatten ihm einen zweiwöchigen Aufenthalt auf Ibiza im Februar geschenkt.

Ganz zufällig hatten sie ihn in der 400 Jahre alten Villa von Henry Sarmiento – Inhaber der international renommierten Sonic Vista Studios – einquartiert.

Natürlich kannte Mousse T., 1966 in Hagen, Deutschland, geboren Ibiza schon von früheren Auftritten als DJ „...in all den tollen Clubs hier.

Ich war aber immer nur so kurz hier, dass ich von der Insel praktisch nichts kennen gelernt habe“. Daher genoss er es dieses mal, sich von der Schönheit der Landschaft, in der das Studio liegt, inspirieren zu lassen, den Kopf frei zu kriegen, Ideen zu sammeln, um so sein drittes Studio-Album fertigstellen zu können.

Collins, but house music and the related culture has always been my thing. That’s when I had my first big success with ‘Horny’. This was followed relatively quickly by ‘Sex Bomb’ with Tom Jones, which opened up the big wide world of pop music for me. The experience showed me that you don’t have to repeat the same act over and over again, but that you can expand your horizons and that it’s not only possible but actually highly desirable to work with a range of artists. I’ve always done this anyway, but you then get accused of being too commercial or not cool enough.

That doesn’t bother me any more. My attitude now is the same as David Guetta’s, namely that you really can work with any artist. I think that’s a great approach that I intend to cultivate properly. I’m planning to round up some really strange artists and do some worthwhile projects with them.

WHICH FAMOUS ARTISTS HAVE YOU WORKED WITH ALREADY?

Tough question. I’ve been doing this professionally for about 20 years now. In that time, there’ve been quite a few. For my own satisfaction, I practically made a whole disc together with Tom Jones. But as a producer – God

We’ve done that, and in addition to the stars already mentioned, we found such wellknown names as Emma Lanford, Andrew Roachford, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Gloria Estefan, Backstreet Boys, Fine Young Cannibals and Molokound Timbaland.

Mousse T was in Ibiza for a full two weeks, so that allowed time for some trips around the Island. He was impressed by the fact that you can get a delicious meal on the beach at this time of year, specifically at Cala Jondal where he spent a sunny afternoon in the Yemanja beach restaurant. But he also discovered for himself classics such as Bar Costa in Santa Gertrudis where he was much taken with the famous ham sandwich and the sight of all the hams hanging from the ceiling.

He found his accommodation both comfortable and convenient from a work aspect, being able to relax in the quiet rural setting but also having a professional studio available as and when the muse took him. In fact, Mousse T. enjoyed his stay so much that “you can expect to see me here again in the near future”. It will be our pleasure.

En las dos semanas que pasó en Ibiza también hubo tiempo para hacer un par de excursiones por la isla. Sobre todo le gustó que en esta época del año también se pueda disfrutar en la playa de una comida deliciosa, ya que estuvo con un tiempo espléndido en el restaurante de playa Yemanja, en la Cala Jondal. Pero también conoció clásicos como el Bar Costa de Santa Gertrudis y se quedó impresionado con sus famosos bocadillos de jamón y los muchos jamones que tiene colgados del techo.

La elección del alojamiento le pareció cómoda y práctica en igual medida. Por un lado, aquí se podía relajar en un tranquilo entorno rural, pero al mismo tiempo, cuando le llegaba la inspiración tenía a su disposición un estudio profesional. Le gustó tanto la experiencia que «¡seguro que repito muy pronto!». Nos alegramos.

Zwei Wochen verbrachte er auf Ibiza, da blieb auch Zeit für ein paar Ausflüge über die Insel.

Besonders gefiel ihm, dass man auch in dieser Jahreszeit am Strand einen leckeres Essen genießen kann, denn er war bei herrlichem Wetter im Strandrestaurant Yemanja in der Cala Jondal. Aber auch Klassiker wie die Bar Costa in Santa Gertrudis hat er zum ersten mal kennengelernt und war von den berühmten Schinkenbrötchen und den vielen Schinken unter der Decke beeindruckt.

Die Wahl der Unterkunft empfand er gleichermaßen angenehm und praktisch. Denn hier konnte er einerseits in der ruhigen ländlichen Umgebung entspannen, ihm stand aber gleichzeitig, wenn er eine neue Inspiration hatte, ein professionelles Studio zur Verfügung. Es hat ihm hier so gut gefallen, dass „ich mit Sicherheit schon sehr bald wiederkommen werde!“ Wir freuen uns darauf.

Rebeka Brown is one of those cocktails, full of subtleties and flavours that lead to versatility, style and tenacity only superseded by the energy that she transmits during her shows.

There is a before and an after to DISCODRAMAH, the show that she launched in 2009 combining music, dance and theatre. But it was in 2011 with the launch of the E.P. „BIG BAD BITCH“, when she went one step further to show that the disco dance genre is not the only one she masters with ease.

The electro sound, combined with a racy image, culminate in the production of a provocative video clip. The track has two versions, one made by the Polish producers, Wawa, and the other by Kromeangels, a group of producers from different countries based in Ibiza.

Existe un antes y un después de DISCODRAMAH, el show que lanza en 2009, combinando música, danza y teatro. Pero es en 2011 con el lanzamiento del E.P. „BIG BAD ITCH“, cuando da un paso más y demuestra que no solo se maneja con soltura en el género disco dance.

El sonido electro unido a una imagen más transgresora culminan con la producción de un provocador videoclip. El track cuenta con dos versiones, la realizada por los productores polacos Wawa y otra por Kromeangels un colectivo de productores de diferentes nacionalidades con base en Ibiza.

The other location in Ibiza chosen to film part of the job was the restaurant Lio. Without a doubt, Rebeka feels comfortable working on the island. Lingerie by Maya Hansen and accessories by AssaadAwad give it a glam touch that reminds you of an episode from the era of New Wave in the early years of the 80s.

In „Feel it Inside“, the track produced with Carlos Gallardo, she subtly flirts with electro by fusing it with evocative dance melodies, making it ideal to play on the more commercial radio stations. Majorkings, from neighbouring Mallorca, have made a remix of this song.

The video clip is a nod from Rebeka to Ibiza and its free spirit. Directed by the Ibicenco, Franc Bufí, it was filmed in Las Salinas and in the Sonic Vista studios located in San Josep, confirming Rebeka’s special relationship with the island. A large part of the team that worked on the production is from the island.

2012 will be the year in which Rebeka Brown is consolidated as the dance floor rock star of the 21st century. She herself will be telling us all about it when the summer season 2012 kicks off in Ibiza. n

hirling dust, the ear-splitting shriek of engines and women working in the fields dressed in traditional costume craning their heads skywards to see what was happening – this was scene at Es Codolá some eighty years ago. Back then, at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, this area, around eight kilometres from the Island capital, was used as a temporary military airport.

It then had a short stint as a civilian airport between 1949 and 1951, but only for domestic flights.

Encouraged by positive developments at the airport in Palma, a committee was formed in 1954 which four years later set about expropri-

longer had to walk over a dusty airstrip to the terminal, because the runway, which now also had a second-hand control tower from Palma, had been asphalted. Following further land expropriation in 1961, the airport, which initially specialised in domestic connections, was extended once again, and one year later, the runway was lengthened to accommodate jet-propelled aircraft.

The airport experienced a quantum leap in 1964 when, in addition to high frequency direction finding equipment, the runways also had special lighting installed. At the same time, construction started on a new airport building.

Two years later, it was offering international flights with a regular timetable and customs control, and from 1967, passengers could fly direct from Ibiza to other countries for the first time. Es Codolá had finally earned the right to call itself an airport. During the 70s and 80s, the runway, aircraft parking, arrivals hall and departure lounge were all extended, and the airport prepared to receive the Boeing 747. In 2010 alone, the airport handled 5,040,800 passengers. Today, 95 percent of travellers to Ibiza come by plane.

Tres veces a la semana, los pasajeros pueden volar de Ibiza a Madrid en pocas horas haciendo escala en Valencia. A partir de 1960, los viajeros ya no tienen que correr por una pista polvorienta, ya que la zona de rodadura del aeropuerto, que dispone ahora de una torre de control previamente desmontada en Palma, es asfaltada. Tras otra expropiación realizada en el año 1961, el aeropuerto, dedicado en un principio a los vuelos nacionales, sufre una nueva ampliación, y un año después se aumenta el tamaño de la zona de rodadura para dar cabida a las máquinas con propulsión a chorro.

En 1964, el aeropuerto da un gran salto cualitativo en el aspecto técnico: además de un radiogoniómetro de onda ultracorta, se dota a las pistas de despegue y aterrizaje de una iluminación especial. Al mismo tiempo comienza la construcción del edificio del aeropuerto. Durante los dos años siguientes se ofertan vuelos internacionales regulares con control de aduana, y en 1967, los pasajeros pueden volar por primera vez a Ibiza directamente desde el extranjero. Por esta circunstancia, Es Codolá se gana finalmente el nombre de aeropuerto. Durante los años 70 y 80 se realizan ampliaciones de la pista, las zonas de rodadura y estacionamiento de aviones, la terminal y la sala de espera, y el aeropuerto se prepara para el aterrizaje del Boeing 747. Solo en el año 2010, el aeropuerto contó 5.040.800 pasajeros. En la actualidad, el 95 % de las personas que viajan a Ibiza lo hacen en avión.

Nach einer weiteren Bodenenteignung im Jahr 1961 wird der zunächst auf nationale Verbindungen spezialisierte Flughafen erneut erweitert und ein Jahr darauf wird das Rollfeld vergrößert, um es an Maschinen mit Düsenantrieb anzupassen.

Einen technischen Quantensprung erlebt der Flughafen im Jahr 1964: Neben einem mit Ultrakurzwellen arbeitenden Funkpeilgerät erhalten nun auch die Start- und Landebahnen eine spezielle Beleuchtung. Parallel hierzu wird mit dem Bau des Flughafengebäudes begonnen.

Schon zwei Jahre später werden internationale Flüge mit permanentem Flugplan angeboten und eine Zollkontrolle installiert. Jetzt können die Fluggäste ab 1967 erstmals direkt von Ibiza ins Ausland fliegen. Durch diesen Umstand verdient sich Es Codolá schließlich den Namen Flughafen. Während der 70er und 80er Jahre genießen sowohl das Rollfeld, der Parkplatz für Flugzeuge sowie die Abfertigungs- und Wartehalle Erweiterungen und der Flughafen wird für die Landung der Boing 747 präpariert. Allein im Jahr 2011 zählte der Flughafen 5 643 152 Passagiere. Heute kommen 95 Prozent der Personen, die nach Ibiza reisen, mit dem Flugzeug an.

Die vor zwei Jahren begonnenen Umbauarbeiten des Flughafens sollen voraussichtlich im April 2012 abgeschlossen sein. n
