2020 is done and 2021 has begun. I remember attending The Wealth Experience a few years ago. Lucinda Cross told us to get up on the stage and pretend that we were speaking to a crowd that came to see us. This stage was mounted by entertainment greats, Fortune 500 professionals, network giants and so much more. She said to envision that you are owning your stage and dominating your industry. Since that day I’ve been owning and showing up for my stage!

This is not the year for self-doubt. This is not the year to beg for a mic. This is the year to create the platform you desire to mount. Sometimes people cannot see who you are because they are caught up with where you came from or who you are today so they reject you. My message is really simple for you today, Have Courage! Create the life you desire, with or without help. You can do it, Queen, I believe in you!

Things We Learned Not To Do In 2021!

Let’s face it, there are some things that 2020 exposed that wouldn’t have been revealed if COVID didn’t shake us up. Some relationships were past the expiration date and some of us were sitting on gold minds but were working for the factory, (you’ll catch that later). But there are some lessons we learned that we can not forget. Here are 21 things we learned NOT to do in 2021.

The biggest lesson I learned from 2020 was to manage my time effectively. There were so many distractions like small urgent requests that prevented me from focusing on my priority at work. I thought I could multi-task so I entertained these small pieces of work while still trying to get my main priority done. It turns out that this doesn’t work for me. I managed to take back control of my time after I immediately stopped attending to these small urgent requests. Instead, I set expectations with people who were asking for help and I informed them when I’ll be available to help out. I got more done by doing this. Multi-tasking doesn’t work!

In August 2020 I quit drinking alcohol. I only intended it as a one month experiment, but it unexpectedly stuck and life seems infinitely better. I just enjoyed an alcohol-free Christmas, something that would have been unimaginable not long ago. #4 2020 taught me to execute ideas quickly because time passes fast. When the pandemic started, I was able to raise funds and launch One Doctor, an idea I had kept with me for many years. It suddenly made me realize what we could achieve if we had no excuses.

#6 2020 was very effective at teaching me that not having a clear routine and schedule is a bad choice for me. When you’re self-isolating at home, work, play, and time sort of melts together. I knew that it had to stop, so I created a designated work-area in my apartment, a place for relaxing, and used my bed only for sleeping (no scrolling out in the morning or at night).

I started my blog in 2020 and that was the highlight of last year. Therefore I hate 2020 a little bit less than everyone else. One mistake that I did was rushed things. For example, I rushed to launch my products without proper research. That made me realize that in 2021 I am going to carefully observe things and then going to take action.

#7 My most sobering lesson is not to take anything and most importantly ANYONE for granted. The restrictions on social interaction and travel have meant that we have all spent less time with loved ones than we would normally have liked to do. This has been particularly hard when those loved ones have been most at risk from the virus, the elderly, and other vulnerable people. My young sons have two sets of elderly grandparents. And the separation from them has been tough on us all. Thankfully, everyone is still around, and with the end of the pandemic within viewing distance, what I won’t be carrying into 2021 and thereafter is putting off visits and time spent with them. From now on, a priority will be making up for the lost time of the last year - no more taking for granted that we will all always be here.

The days of going to the gym after work at 5:30 pm are over. This is the time the gym is most crowded. More people are using all of the equipment which makes it difficult to get an efficient workout done and it increases potential exposure to germs/viruses. I have been going to the gym from 6 am-6:45 am and there are very few in the gym at this time. It’s great because I have my pick at the machines as well as decrease the risk of exposure to someone that is sick.

2020 is not a year most of us want to repeat. One of the lessons I’ve learned is where there is a will, there is a way! At least as far as the versatility, adaptability, and capacity of conducting our lives online are concerned. What I won’t be taking with me into 2021 is any belief that we are limited in our technology and how to use it to our benefit. Two examples being how much of our dayto-day lives were moved successfully online. And just how quickly science and technology developed the vaccines.

I don’t have to have my life 100% scheduled. At the beginning of the COVID lockdown, I was excited to have some more time to explore some new hobbies and also really focus on my business. However, I soon felt like I was putting too much pressure on myself to be productive and I almost burnt out. I realized that I can give myself permission to just step back and say “not now.” Sometimes I need a mental health day where I can just zone out and take the pressure off. The next morning I wake up refreshed and focus much better, whether I’m exploring personal or professional pursuits.

#11 I don’t have to bowl alone. Even though 2021 still started in isolation, I don’t have to be by myself. I downloaded the Marco Polo app, so I can keep in touch with friends and family with video messages. I’m also going to schedule more virtual dinner dates and maybe the occasional trivia or crafting night so I can have more real-time human interaction.

#12 I will try to do more with my money. Rather than have money-collecting pennies in a checking account, I’m going to be a little more active and test out investing. With apps like Robinhood, I can dip a toe into the stock market.

#13 2020 was a year of...well...a lot! 2020 was so much all at once: so many tragedies, but also so much hope. We’ve all got some 2020 whiplash. It was hard to focus on our goals among all the goings-on, which is why in 2021 I’m leaving overwhelm in the rearview mirror and taking the road less traveled by choosing one unthinkable goal to focus on in 2021. I’m choosing constraints in my goal setting this year so that I can get in touch with my CEO Brain (aka the

pre-frontal cortex) where my long-term deepest desires reside. Listening to my CEO Brain is key to achieving my one unthinkable goal.

Give it a try: ask your “What ONE result do I want to have in my life on 12/31/21?” Don’t let your brain take a nap and tell you “I don’t know.” If your primitive brain (I call it my Puppy Brain) starts freaking out, that’s okay. Just notice it with love and compassion, and let it ride shotgun. Put your prefrontal cortex, AKA your CEO brain, in the driver’s seat and start building massive self-confidence. You got this! You are ready for 2021.

The lesson I learned from 2020 was not to doubt a life-changing decision once it’s made. Before the pandemic kicked in, I had decided to become a stay-at-home dad and develop my dad’s blog and my parenting website YourCub.com. Like all reasonably thinking people, such a career was not taken lightly - but within weeks of the seriousness of the Covid-19 becoming clear, it turned out to be the best move I had ever made, albeit unwittingly timely. I was already at home - and working remotely - so disruption to my family’s routine and lifestyle was minimal, and of course, I was where I wanted to be at the time I needed to be there. Meanwhile, friends and ex-colleagues had their lives turned upside down by restrictions and lockdowns affecting work and play, and of course finances. So what I’ve learned from 2020, is NOT to go back to the normal office-based 9 to 5 routine.

#15 One lesson I learned not to do in 2021 is to be complacent with marketing efforts.

First, I learned not to be so quick to judge. I’ve tried in the past to be more aware of others and their situations in life, but 2020 opened my eyes more. Both from a racial standpoint and a financial one, we all need to have more compassion for each other. You never know what someone else is going through in life and many times if you have a bad experience with someone, it isn’t personal. Many times they are struggling with something, or you are struggling with something. And in both cases, you take your anger/ frustration out on the other person.

#18 I’m feeling pretty grateful that I am letting COVID be the catalyst to turn more of my visions into reality, prioritize what matters most, and set things up for future sustainability.

#20 In 2020 I learned not to depend on going to the gym to accomplish my fitness goals. When the pandemic and shutdowns first started, I was devastated knowing that I wouldn’t be able to go to the gym anymore. Fast forward a few months and not only was I working out from home, but I found that I had more free time, better results, and overall just a better outlook on fitness. By eliminating the stress and hassle associated with driving to and from the gym every day, abiding by the gym’s set hours, dealing with others, etc., I was able to gain so much more freedom in my routine and schedule. #21 This year for me was full of growth and self-knowledge. I definitely have a lot of great things to take from 2020 and keep doing it from now on. I’m leaving behind fear of the unknown. Unconventional Beauty: I Am Uniquely Beautiful Contributing Writer: Jupshy Jasmin

A

ccording to Dove’s 2010 survey, 96% of women do not consider themselves beautiful. This is evidence that more women than we think are struggling with body image. A serious problem because beauty is the 4th largest industry. It appears that the numbers just don’t add up until you start paying attention to social media and their portrayal of beauty. It makes you wonder, could it be that we have bought into the opinion of influencers whose only objective is to capitalize on your self-esteem?

Therefore, allow me to define conventional beauty vs. nonconventional beauty and how nonconventional beauty enables more women to embrace your unique beauty.

Conventional beauty is the classification of beauty standards presented by a group of influencers, stating that only women who exhibit certain physical characteristics are considered beautiful. The absence or lack of any of their ideal features would exclude a woman from beauty consideration. This concept is destructive because it normalizes unrealistic expectations and exudes pressure on women to pursue the illusion of ideal beauty.

On the contrary, unconventional beauty widens the beauty spectrum, cultivating the space for women to be inclusively beautiful, not just a selected few. Unconventional beauty is richly diverse, not limited to one’s complexion, hair texture, height, weight, or body shape. Unconventional beauty redefines society’s standards and allows women to gain a better perception of themselves.

Despite the constant barrage of photoshopped images from the media, ordinary women are crossing the boundaries.

Through their movement, they are boldly advocating for the truth about beauty. Many are doing so by joining forces with the fashion industry. Plus size women are walking the runway, like Ashely Graham. Dark-skinned, afro-centric women such as Lupita Nyong’o and then there is a special group of women who we rarely see on the headlines. These women have the most powerful message to the world. There are women with physical disabilities. We are talking about women living with down syndrome, missing limbs, or with visual and hearing impairments who are commonly neglected by society. They are more likely to experience greater body dissatisfaction because they are often perceived as abnormal. They receive higher rates of stigmatization due to their physical differences. The good news is that beauty diversity embraces even these groups of women.

Allow me to highlight 3 disabled models who exemplify unconventional: Rebekah Marine, born without a right forearm was first insecure about her looks. Over time, she began to see herself as beautiful.

Since then, she has featured in several magazines such as Teen Vogue and People Magazine. In 2016, she walked modeled in New York Fashion Week.

Jillian Mercado is a wheelchair-bound

woman who was diagnosed with spastic muscular dystrophy as a young girl. But she did not allow her disability to hinder her from her modeling career. She has made an appearance in the Nordstrom disabled catalog and many others.

Cacsmy Brutus, known as Mama Cax, was a Haitian-American disabled model and speaker. She had every reason to allow life’s misfortune to silence her. At the age of 14, she was diagnosed with bone cancer that spread to her lung. At 16, she underwent an unsuccessful hip replacement that ended up getting part of her hip and her entire right leg amputated. Although this surgery changed her image forever.

She decided to show up and speak out. She became an amputee model featured in a magazine like Essence Magazine, Teen Vogue, and many more. During the Obama presidency, she walked in the White House Fashion show. She hit the runway, showing off her prosthetic leg. Sadly, she is no longer with us, but her legacy continues to echo into the world because this is what unconventional beauty is all about.

Thanks to these women and many others, they are helping to expand the social perception of beauty. Although social media has condition us to believe in their opinion of beauty, if we all decide to accept ourselves as beautiful, we can reduce the stigma in our society. Together we will reverse the statistics from 96% of women who do not consider themselves beautiful into 96% of women who believe in their unique beauty.

Many times the number on the scale is not the real issue. The REAL issue is that women feel like they are never truly good enough. In reality, women need to love themselves FIRST for any of that to transpire, and it has nothing to do with their weight. What’s Your Post-Lockdown Dream Vacation & Who’s Coming?

I never thought in my lifetime, we would see a day where we would be unable to travel or socialize with our loved ones. I am sure no one could have guessed that 2020 would have turned out the way it did, but I’m grateful that we are still here.

With all the restrictions and lockdowns, travel seems to be top on the list for everyone. So what’s on your post-lockdown travel bucket list and who are you taking along with you? I spoke with some friends and here’s what they said.

With two young kids and two sets of elderly grandparents, the Year of the Pandemic has been especially difficult for my extended family as we have had to socially distance the kids from their grandparents.

My dream vacation will be to take all of them to Walt Disney World in Florida!

The kids are at an age where they will not only enjoy the younger attractions and some of the older rides but also Epcot. The oldies will enjoy taking them around and being together as a family again. r. Delica is a Nursing Supervisor at a longterm care facility as well as an RN Independent Contractor. Prior to that, her main areas of nursing expertise were Critical Care and Cardiac Care. She began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, FL while she was pursuing her high school diploma. She graduated in 2000, but she did not obtain her FL LPN license until 2004. Then after, graduating from the University of Miami with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), she began travel nursing in Vermont. In 2006, Dr. Delica moved to Charlotte, NC, and obtained her RN license that same year in North Carolina. In 2012, she moved back to Florida and obtained her FL RN license in 2014.

Over the span of her nursing career, she has a wide array of experience in Medical/ Surgical, Adult Health, Oncology, Pediatrics, Telemetry, Infectious Disease, Longterm care, Cardiac, Critical Care, Stepdown/Progressive Care, Correctional Nursing, Public Health, and Travel Nursing. Also, she has been called upon to assist during major catastrophes and natural disasters, such as Hurricane Wilma in South Florida (2005), Earthquake in Haiti (2010), Hurricane Matthew in Haiti (2016), Hurricane Irma in the Bahamas (2019),

and Coronavirus 2019 “COVID-19” Pandemic. In addition, she has held leadership/management positions in various nursing units and healthcare facilities as well as on hospital-wide committees.

Dr. Delica also holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Science Education (BSHSE) and a minor in Community Health, cum laude from the University of Florida. In May 2019, Dr. Delica received an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Ministry and was ordained as a Pastor by the Trinity Theological Seminary of South Florida in Pompano Beach, FL through the leadership of Dr. Blanche Johnson Davis, Founder and President of Trinity Theological Seminary of South Florida. In addition, she graduated with honors of the Class of 2019 from The Kingdom School of Ministry under the leadership of Dr. Cindy N. Trimm-Tomlinson. Hurricane Dorian Changed My Life Forever BY: MOLINA PIERRE MRS. HAITI INTERNATIONAL 2020

If someone told me last year that I would be here holding the title of Mrs. Haiti International 2020 and living in the United States today, I would say that’s a good dream; a bit far-flung. But yet, here we are. A big difference from the life we were living eighteen months ago. The journey to this new life began with tragedy. Hurricane Dorian struck my hometown, the Island of Abaco, and Grand Bahama in

the Bahamas on September 1st, 2019. It is a day that will forever be etched in my memory. Hurricane Dorian will go down in history as the great storm of 2019 that devastated Abaco, Bahamas, and caused a mass exodus of 70,000 survivors. It ripped through the heart and breadth of the land. Many died and, hundreds were injured. The hearts of many were broken.

For my family and I evacuating was hard but necessary because we had two young children and one on the way. I was 5 months pregnant. The physical and mental pain grew as the adrenaline from survival mode wore off. Our reality set in; we were homeless and, our future was dark.

The thought of competing in a pageant was the furthest thing on my mind in those moments. Eight days post-Dorian we landed in Fort Lauderdale, thanks to the 3C Foundation, which helped several Bahamian families find safety after the storm. The days following, although my future seemed uncertain, I was surprisingly at peace. I knew that God was with us, and every step that we took up to this point has been ordained by Him. One of the most significant moments that the Lord orchestrated for us was when a lovely family called The Pardals in Fort Myers, Fl offered to take us in for a few months until we got back on our feet. We went from the island to the country and it was wild.

A house full of kids and farm animals turned out to be exactly what we needed. Our children were laughing, fighting, and playing again as they should be. They had toys and a bed and more than enough space to run around. They seemed to have found their way but as parents, we were still in the dark.

Looking back, I realized that we were in the dark about our future because it was exactly what the Lord wanted. This time He was in complete control because our backs were pressed against the wall.

Daily he provided sending help from everywhere for our physical needs. Yet spiritually, I wrestled with the transition that I was going through. I felt exposed and vulnerable. There were moments when I felt so alone even though I knew that God was with me. I began to write my feelings and prayers down. The more I wrote the more exposed I felt. Yet, the exposure did not lead to shame. I would feel peace and acceptance with each confession and prayer. The more of myself I revealed to God, the closer I felt to Him. Psalm 34:4-5 I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.

The Lord was healing old wounds that were covered and hidden for years and somehow being in this

unfamiliar place, under those circumstances, forced me to open up and let the light of God into these very dark spaces in my heart. I had spent so much time taking care of others. I forgot about myself and the purpose that God had created for me.

Jeremiah 29: 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future., the Lord wanted good for me, good was His plans for me, a hope and a future were my portions.

When the time came for us to leave the ranch, it was again orchestrated by God. He provided us with all of the necessities to move. Baby Aaron was born December 22nd and we were home by Christmas Eve enjoying our first holiday together in our new place. Two months after giving birth, I felt a gentle tug in my heart to re-inquire about the Haiti International Pageant. I decided to compete.

The COVID -19 pandemic began in the US around the same time, shutting everything down which led to the pageant being held via Zoom in June instead of April. However, even with all of the challenges I faced, I kept going because the Lord was directing me. Ultimately, He honored me with the crown. My obedience to His gentle touch led to Him granting me my heart’s desire which happened to be His plan for my life all along.
