SHRESHTA SADANANDAN Indian 14 yrs. 16 x 20 inches acrylic on canvas “Creation’s Best Gift”

Creation’s Best Gift reepresents a bouquet of flower in a vase. Looking deeper to just mere creation this flower exudes beauty and fragility. Vincent Van Gogh inspired me to paint this subject matter because the artist himself is captured by this amazing creation by God. I used acrylic paint to express my deep appreciation and attachment, and hoping to preserve this fragile creation in my canvas.

NEHA SUSAN CHINDU MOHAMED Indian 11 yrs. 16 x 24 inches acrylic on canvas “Daylight Hope” My artwork is a precious treasure to me, inspired by the great artist Vincent Van Gogh. I feel satisfied and happy looking at it. It consists of a few trees projecting out from a multicolored background. There are also a few birds flying in the picture. I gave the picture the title ‘DAYLIGHT HOPE’ because deep down in our hearts, there may be difficulties or problems. But above all of that, there is hope shining through it. This painting tells us that even in time of troubles, we have hope. In fact, all paintings by children or adults are done with hard work and passion. Passion and patience are the two important aspects of any skill. When we have passion, we love doing things that we should. The key to success is hard work and determination. I could only complete this painting because of these aspects. The result produced is more than what I expected and I hope that it will inspire everyone to follow their dreams.

AMELIA FINLEY MERCADO Filipino 6 yrs. 14 x 18 inches acrylic on canvas “Beautiful Blossoms” Flowers are regarded as symbol of abundance, hospitality, joyfulness, beauty, purity and positive vibes. It provokes the feelings of love and happiness because they have the power to make people happy and cheerful. I named my artwork ‘Beautiful Blooms’ because like my subjects Sunflower and Anthurium, I would like to think that these flowers are me and my sister. Like these flowers they symbolize joy, they compliment each other and bring positive energy like us to our family. We make them happy with our presence, with our smiles and laughters. Like flowers, water us with love, nourish us with praise, support us as we grow, develop and truly bloom at the right time. And our parents will be our sun when all we see is rain, protect us from storms and shelter our pain. Every child is a different kind of flower and all together let us make this world a beautiful garden.

ZIANA NAINA MOHAMED Indian 6 yrs. 14 x 18 inches acrylic on canvas “Best Gift” ‘Best Gift’ represents bunch of flowers hand fully arranged in a vase. Their smell and beauty give every home a refreshment to the soul. Through my artwork, I am expressing my gratitude to God for the flowers that He has created. I consider it as one of His best gifts to mankind. Can you imagine a world without flowers? It can be a world so boring and dull. This little thing that we take for granted is a simple and silent expression of God’s love and care for all of us. In return, we need to take good care of what He has given us. We have to keep this world beautiful and safe because this is only the world that we have.

AMINATH SHAHEEDA Maldivian 40 yrs. 25 x 35 inches acrylic on canvas “The Tropical Bliss” The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Maldives is it’s unique turquoise, crystal clear waters and the white sandy beaches. Though most of us are not aware of what lies beneath these shades of blue, the underwater life is quite fascinating and colorful. In creating this painting, I was inspired by the Artist Vincent Van Gogh’s famous technique of small continuous brush strokes. I have used acrylics with some modeling paste to create this painting. Doing the Van Gogh’s style in acrylics was a bit challenging since oil and acrylics have very different textures and behaviors.

ROGSH EMMANUEL GARCIA Filipino 17 yrs. 14 x 20 inches acrylic on canvas “The Peerless Legacy” As an artist, I invite people to look closely at my work for them to see the small details and follow through the dramatic art movements just like the work of post impressionism visible in the works of Vincent Van Gogh. I tried to visualize the life of this famous Dutch painter through this artwork. Every stroke of water color shows how deep and colorful his life is. As he falls slowly underwater which symbolizes his failing physical and mental health, he remains holding onto the umbrella which signifies all the beautiful things that lift him up. Through painstaking water color brush stroke I created a soft milky texture and gave life to this artwork. The expressive use of color and form depicted my emotions as an artist. Taking a closer look at my artwork, you will surely have a bird’s eye view of Van Gogh’s life and art.

JASIA TASFIA KABIR Bangladeshi 16 yrs. 16 x 20 inches acrylic on canvas “A Serene Mingling Night in Amsterdam

The night is dark, dangerous and lonely. But, it does not always have to be. Because, sometimes we might just be chaperoned by the stars and the moon hovering aloft us silently. Where there is darkness, there is light.

JAHRA TASNIM KABIR Bangladeshi 16 yrs. 16 x 20 inches acrylic on canvas “Imagining the Beauty of Bangladesh Through Van Gogh’s Eyes” World renowned, and one of my favourite artists, Vincent Willem Van Gogh was a traveller at heart as well. He had visited and painted many beautiful sceneries of 4 countries in Europe: Belgium, Great Britain, France and Netherlands. Van Gogh’s great wish was to visit Japan and capture the views of its scenic beauties in his paintings next. But at that time (1885), if he knew about the charm of this small region in the Indian subcontinent of Asia, called ‘The Bengals’ (now a country called ‘Bangladesh’), he would’ve loved to visit there, too! Bangladesh has many things that Van Gogh loved to paint: life of peasants, colourful natural beauty, rural landscapes, etc. Here, I’ve painted a picture of an afternoon of late autumn in a riverside village of my country. Late autumn season brings in large white fluffy clouds with the breeze of the coming winter. Afternoon starts to colour the bright blue sky with brilliant shades of orange, pink, yellow and violet with the dying sun. Many seasonal flowers like magnolias begin to bloom. We see a boatman sailing in the river with his sailboat. Perhaps he is a fisherman, going to look for his catch; perhaps he’s a ferryman, looking for passengers to take on... his hard work is all worth it when the beautiful environment keeps him company.
