“Gisoldo” cheese factory The Gisoldo cheese factory was established in 1958 in the small town of Rocchetta Sant’Antonio located in Daunia. Holder of a long farming experience and tradition which now accounts for more than 50 years of business, it is a point of reference for the people who wish to experience the authentic flavors of milk and its derivatives. Caseificio Gisoldo Fabio operates today with the same cure and attention of older times, taking special care of the quality control before delivering to its clients and by following meticulous hygienic norms. The milk used in the production of fresh and seasoned cheese comes from the breed of Podolica cows, nurtured exclusively in the uncontaminated area of Irpinia. The Gisoldo Fabio cheese factory, in order to promote the great flavors of an antique tradition, entrusts only the hands of real experts and a tasty mixture of milk rennet and salt. The Master cheese-maker provides also an invaluable insight into such process, being the original founder of the firm which now runs together with his son Fabio.

Vulture winery The outlines of Vulture, an ancient dormant volcano, constitutes an exceptionally interesting location for its scenery, history and wine production tradition. The seven mountaintops of the area are adorned with the most stunning vegetation and lakes, which together with the volcano’s craters make up for a very picturesque scenery that should not be missed. A naturalistic itinerary among the best of its kind, featuring visits in the most astonishing locations of Southern Italy. Furthermore, the human presence in the area and the landscape adaptation deriving from it can easily be noticed and traced back to ancient times. The huge hill slopes, originated by the abundant violent eruptions during the Pleistocene period, offer a perfect mix of climate and soil for the vineyards and olive trees. Tarallificio del Pozzo From the raising sun of the Daunian mountains comes the genuineness and the golden flavors embracing the products of Tarallificio del Pozzo still expressing in full their Mediterranean tradition. In spite of the passage from hand-made to industrial production, the quality has remained intact and always of top notch. Scaldatelli, tarallini and spezzati are just a few of the peculiar delicacies offered by this small venture founded in Rocchetta Sant’Antonio. The idea came from the dream of a young entrepreneur determined to introduce tastes and flavors of Puglia’s cuisine. Must-see towns Rocchetta Sant’Antonio
A small town located in the province of Foggia just north of the Puglia region. The town is located in a strategic point embracing Puglia, Campania and Basilicata (three wonderful regions of South Italy). The first citadel dating back approximately to 1000 A.D has most probably Norman origins while the first castle, of which one of the towers is still preserved today, was built in the year 1050AD. However, the true representative symbol of Rocchetta Sant’Antonio is the sixteenth-century castle commissioned by Ladislao II d’Aquino unveiled in 1507. Another beautiful work of art is the Chiesa Matrice built in 1754, where a number of artworks are held.
Melfi
Medieval city located in the volcanic territory on the northern slopes of Mount Vulture. Melfi was inhabited since the Neolithic era and received the influence of the ancient Roman population, as it can be noticed from the ruins of a Roman villa with mosaics. Guglielmo d’Altavilla ordered to build a castle there, which is probably the most famous one in the region. Later, the castle was enlarged by the Swabians, then by the Angevins, and Frederick II issued the Costitutions Augustales there in 1231. This document represents the first form of written law, both penal and civil, in the Middle-Ages.
Ascoli Satriano
A “city of saints and civilization”, Ascoli Satriano is considered to be the Apulian Pompei because of its many archeological traces such as the Collina Serpente or Fragola’s Villa as well as the excavations of Giarnera and Boschetto. The Middle-Ages area is very impressive too, with its castle and the Cathedral dedicated to Saint Martyr Potito da Ausculum. Both the Daunia Archaelogical Park and the Museum of Santa Maria degli Angeli are fascinating places. Particulary interesting are the sections dedicated to archaeology as well as the diocesan museum, inside which it is possible to appreciate the marbles of the Trapezophoros’ frame.
The gems
This old and uncompleted church is one of the most interesting and complex monuments of Southern Italy; it was built during the early Christian era on a pagan temple dedicated to goddess Imene, protectress of wedding, and it has been enlarged since the last quarter of the eleventh century into the new church, that remained unfinished.

Candela
This town is located on the top of two hills called San Rocco and San Tommaso, in the Southern part of Daunia. A truly traditional citadel from ancient times, Candela has a wonderful and wellpreserved historical centre, a Mother Church and many little chapels that frame the sumptuous building and picturesque alleys of the town. Local gastronomy is represented by high-class restaurants and internationally acclaimed chefs.
Venosa
Venosa (Basilicata) is one of the most beautiful villages of Italy. It is the city of origin of Horace, the infamous “Carpe Diem” poet, as well as home of the madrigralist Carlo Gesualdo. This village houses the impressive archaeological site of Incompiuta and Frederick II’s Castle. Horace’s town keeps a wonderful mix of history, costume and traditions, paying much care in the preservation of this heritage. Venosa is able to create an unforgettable memory with the presence of various cathedrals and churches, which we highly recommend to visit.
Bovino
Bovino is famous for its “800 stone portals”. This village is located in a hilly territory on the Daunian Subapenine area. The territory is adorned by century-old woods as well as an undergrowth full of herbs and wild fruits. The historical centre has impressive monuments like the Cathedral as well as the Ducal Castle. Bovino is also known as an important place of worship for its Sanctuary of the Madonna of Valle Verde, located in the woods at the town’s borders.
Matera Provincial capital of the Basilicata region, Matera houses around 60.000 inhabitants. It is located on a ravine in a dry territory eroded by the Matera and Picciano’s ravine on the plateau of Matera’s Murge. It is considered the oldest town of the world, and one of the most fascinating because of its architectural composition, commonly known as the City of the Stones. Matera was recently declared the 2019 European Capital of Culture.
