Hockey Trio Honored For the first time in Hobart hockey history, three Statesmen earned a spot on the American Hockey Coaches Association All-America teams. Goalie Nick Broadwater ’13 garnered first team honors, defenseman Brad Richard ’13 second team, and forward Frank Salituro ’13 third team. Broadwater is just the third Statesman to earn first team honors on the ice, joining Keith Longo ’09 and Matt Wallace ’11. Overall eight Statesmen have earned nine All-America awards. Broadwater finished his collegiate career with a record-breaking senior campaign. He eclipsed the Hobart season marks for goals against average (1.66), save percentage (.939), and shutouts (4). Broadwater’s 15 wins in net this year rank second in Hobart history. He led the league and was second in the nation in GAA and second in both the league and the nation in save percentage. A three-time All-ECAC West selection, Broadwater sits first on the Hobart career lists for shutouts (11) and GAA (2.25) and ranks second in wins (45), saves (2,275) and save percentage (.927). A two-year captain, and four-time All-ECAC West honoree, Richard was named the 2012-13 ECAC West Defensive Player of the Year. He anchored a defense that ranked first in the conference and fifth in the nation, allowing an average of just 1.85 goals per game. Richard played in 20 games, and recorded four goals and seven assists. He logged game-winning goals against Geneseo and Elmira. In 97 career games, Richard registered 22 goals and 42 assists for 64 points. He garnered ECAC West All-USCHO.com honors twice and was named to the ECAC West All-Tournament team after helping the Statesmen to their second ever ECAC West Tournament title in 2012. A co-captain and All-ECAC West first team selection, Salituro played in all 26 games and led Hobart with 31 points (14g,17a). He tied for first in the nation with nine power-play goals. Salituro was second in the league in points and goals. He notched the gamewinning goals against Cortland and Nazareth. Salituro garnered All-ECAC West honorable mention and was named to the ECAC West All-USCHO.com second team in 2011-12. He completed his career with 36 goals and 38 assists for 74 points. Nationally ranked throughout the season, Hobart finished the year with a 19-5-2 overall record and an 11-3-1 mark in the ECAC West, sharing the conference regular season title. Only two teams in Statesmen history recorded more wins than this year’s team.

Thompson and Bonney Dominate It was another banner year for the Hobart basketball team. The Statesmen recorded their fourth straight winning season, third straight 20-win season, and captured both the Liberty League’s regular season and tournament championships. Between Jan. 22 and Feb. 23, Hobart won a school record 13 consecutive games. The Statesmen will also carry a 12game home court win streak into the 2013-14 season. Leading the charge was the highly Stefan Thompson ’13 decorated duo of guard Stefan Thompson ’13 and forward Richie Bonney ’14.

Thompson’s impressive resume includes the first National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-America award in Hobart history (second team) and the first appearance by a Statesman in the Reese’s Division III College All-Star Game. A twotime All-East pick by both the NABC and D3hoops.com and a fourtime All-Liberty League selection, he is just the third Hobart player to capture the Liberty League Player of the Year award. Bonney netted second team All-East praise from both the NABC and D3hoops.com. He also became the first Hobart basketball student-athlete voted to the Capital One Academic All-America first team. Derek Dominici ’87 is the only other Hobart cager to receive Academic All-America recognition, earning honorable mention in 1986. Thompson was second on the team in scoring this season, averaging 15.6 ppg. He led the Liberty League in assists (150), assists per game (5.4), and assist-to-turnover (2.3). Thompson reached double digits in the scoring column in 21 of 28 games, netting a career-high 30 points in a double overtime win against Union. Thompson is the only player in Hobart history to score more than 1,000 points and record more than 400 assists. He’s second in career assists with 492 and fourth in career points with 1,643. Like Thompson, Bonney was a unanimous first team All-Liberty League selection. He averaged 19.5 ppg and 8.7 rpg, second in the league in both categories. Bonney›s .624 field goal percentage broke the Hobart season record, led the Liberty League and ranks 12th in the nation. He scored a career-high 40 points in a win at Rensselaer, the most points scored by any player in the conference this year. Bonney produced 22 points and a career-high 19 rebounds at 13th-ranked Rhode Island College in the first round of the NCAA tournament, a 62-59 overtime loss for the Statesmen. In 85 career games, Bonney has accumulated 1,147 points (14th on the all-time list) and 633 rebounds.

D’Addario Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship William Smith Heron Emily D’Addario ’13 was one of just 29 female fall sport studentathletes across all three NCAA divisions to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. D’Addario is just the 10th Heron studentathlete to receive the prestigious scholarship. A soccer player in her first two years at William Smith, D’Addario switched to cross country in her junior year due to an injury. Despite having never run cross country, she became one of the most outstanding runners Emily D’Addario ’13 in Heron history. D’Addario won her first three races and finished her career with a total of nine victories. She set course records on five different occasions. D’Addario garnered All-Liberty League cross country honors twice and was named the 2011 Liberty League Cross Country Rookie of the Year. She earned USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region honors and became just the second Heron ever to run in the NCAA Division III National Championship. “This scholarship is a wonderful way to be recognized for my hard work in both academics and athletics,” said D’Addario, who will receive a grant of $7,500 to continue her education by pursing a master’s degree in speech language pathology. The health sciences major has also received numerous academic honors. She was a threetime Liberty League All-Academic selection and earned a spot on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District team. D’Addario was also named a USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree in 2011 and 2012. n

The Hobart lacrosse program has been placed on probation by the NCAA for self-reported violations involving ineligible participation, failure to maintain squad lists, and lack of institutional control. The penalties include: public reprimand and censure; three years of probation through January 5, 2014; designated Colleges’ employees will attend an NCAA Regional Rules Seminar; vacation of wins from 2006; postseason ban for the 2011 season; a monetary fine; and external review of Hobart’s compliance system.
