Message from the Mayor

Our Community Arts & Culture Fund is open for anyone who has a kaupapa or event that contributes to the creative life of the Hutt Valley community and our visitors. The Fund supports providing a diverse range of easily accessible arts activities and events, while increasing our community’s participation in arts and cultural activities.
Head to the Hutt City Council website if you think you’re eligible for the funding.
If you’re a rugby fan, you’ll be excited to see that the Wellington Rugby Football Union and Hutt City Council are bringing six regional games to Lower Hutt. The highlight is a Ranfurly Shield defence against Southland on Saturday 19 August.
Lower Hutt Foodbank will be at the ground collecting donations, so bring along some koha or non-perishable food items and watch some high-quality rugby.
August is Family History Month and there are a wide range of events to help you find out more about your
family history. From family history resources at your local library to workshops and talks about the Hutt City Heritage site, there is something for everyone.
The first week of August is New Zealand Cook Islands Language Week. This year’s theme is ‘Ātuitui’ia au ki te au peu o tōku kāinga Ipukarea, which means ‘connect me to the traditions and culture of my homeland’. Read on to find out more about events we have planned to mark the week.
I hope you all enjoy the last month of winter and take advantage of the great community events we have on!
