Mobile Sites - shortfalls

==== ==== Fantastic Mobile Sites - click here http://www.design-mobile-websites.com/ ==== ==== Some shortfalls of mobile sites: Small display size * This will make it difficult to view wording along with artwork determined by the common height and width of a pc display screen. No new windows * a mobile site only has the option to view one page at a time, unlike pcs where multiple windows can be opened at one time. Some cellphone apps permit the opening of numerous windows, but not on the same screen. Navigation * Nearly all cellular phones avoid the use of a mouse, but merely use horizontal and vertical scrolling. Lack of JavaScript or the ability to store cookies * With the exception of smartphones, most cellphones dont offer these capabilites and therefore many mobile sites cannot assign unique identities to customers or offer comprehensive shopping and checkout options. May types of internet pages unobtainable * Numerous internet sites which can be seen on the desktop computer cannot on the mobile phone. A lot of units are not able to access webpages which have a guaranteed connection, pdfs, ebooks, or even some video clip web sites cannot be accessed my many mobile devices, though at the time of writing this has been changing for the better, allowing mobile sites to keep up with their mainstream cousins. Speed * On cellular phones, the pace of server access information upload and download can be incredibly sluggish, depending on type and speed of connection. Broken internet pages * mainstream websites and mobile sites treat breakdown of communication in vastly different ways. Compressed internet pages * Several webpages, apropos of their transformation to mobile file format, are usually compressed into a completely different format where they are easily viewable on a computer, but perhaps not so well interpreted on a mobile site. Size of emails * Many mobile devices have limitations regarding the variety and number of characters which can be included in a message. Cost : the actual fee to gain access to cellular phone networks and mobile sites may be substantial if you dont have a flat rate monthly payment plan. Location associated with cellular * roaming fees usually apply when travelling abroad or even in the same country and can quickly add up.

Work related access * workers receiving advertisements while at the workplace may find this an intrusion of their privacy. Network shortcomings * Some mobile sites or apps may require faster internet speeds such as hspa or hsdpa, 3G at the least, and may not function correctly or at all if connected to a slower network. The proliferation of faster networks in Western countries will always be one step ahead of the mobile networks found in developing countries, though the rapacious desire for mobile devices in the third world should ensure that this gap is getting narrower all the time. Mac vs PC * Some types of software or applications that run on a pc will not necessarily function as well on a device that runs Apple software. For example, Mac devices do not allow autoplay of flash, so when for example an iPod opens a mobile site that contains flash, it will not autoplay but the user will need to click a play button. Alll these and more will need to be taken in to account when designing your mobile site.
