HOW TO GET HERE ROAD

SHUTTLE SERVICES

An easy two-hour drive north from Sydney along the M1 Pacific Motorway and continue onto the M15 Hunter Expressway for the main access route to the Hunter Valley. Alternatively leave the freeway at the Cessnock/Hunter Valley Vineyards exit sign, follow the signs to Cessnock/Vineyards or Lovedale Road.

Several operators offer door-to-door shuttle transport by limousine or minibus to and from Newcastle and Sydney airports.

Newcastle Airport (Williamtown) is the region’s main airport serviced by direct daily flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and the Gold Coast as well as several regional NSW centres. Virgin Australia now operate seasonal flights from Newcastle to Auckland. All three major domestic carriers (QantasLink, Virgin Australia and Jetstar) and regional carriers (Rex and FlyPelican) operate services in and out of Newcastle Airport. Transfer time to Wine Country is 50 minutes by road.

The Hunter Valley’s climate is moderate, similar to Mediterranean weather. The hottest month is January and the coldest July. The heaviest rainfalls are in summer, with a secondary peak just before winter, and an annual average rainfall of around 750mm.

INFORMATION FOR

INTERNATIONAL VISITORS ARRIVING Sydney and Brisbane international airports are currently the closest international airports to the Hunter Valley. Newcastle Airport is now offering seasonal direct flights to Auckland as well as the standard direct flights from Sydney to Newcastle. Alternatively direct connection flights are available to Newcastle Airport from Sydney Airport. Alternatively, shuttle services are available from Sydney Airport to all hotels in the Hunter Valley.

PASSPORTS AND VISAS All international visitors require a valid passport. All travellers to Australia, other than Australian and New Zealand citizens, are required to obtain a visa or ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) to enter Australia. The ETA is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia for short-term tourism or business entry. It replaces the visa label or stamp in a passport and removes the need for application forms. ETAs are issued within seconds of request through computer links between the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), travel agents, airlines and specialist service providers around the world. The International Event Coordinator Network (IECN) can assist with arranging visas for your conference or incentive group. TIPPING AND GRATUITIES Tipping and gratuities are not required or expected in Australia. Gratuities are welcome after a particularly enjoyable meal or service that goes beyond expectation.

International visitors can apply for a GST refund for purchases totalling more than $300 in any one store. Departure Tax: AUD$47 (current at time of print) is payable on departure from Australia by all persons aged over 12 years. Check with your airline, as this amount is generally included in your flight ticket price. On leaving Australia, you can claim a refund on the GST and WET (Wine Equalisation Tax) on any goods purchased no more than 30 days before departure through the TRS (Tourist Refund Scheme). ELECTRICITY Australia’s electrical current is 220–240 volts, AC 50Hz. The Australian three pin power outlet is different from some other countries so you may need an adaptor. If your appliances are 110 volts, you may need a voltage converter. Most hotels are equipped to assist with this.

VACCINATIONS Vaccinations are not required unless you have come from or visited a yellow fever-infected country or zone within six days before arrival in Australia. No other health certificate is required to enter Australia.
