Estrel goes Art !

Liebe Gäste, wer seit längerer Zeit nicht mehr im Estrel war, dem wird auffallen, dass sich nicht nur das Erscheinungsbild unseres Atriums mit sämtlichen Restaurants und Bars komplett verändert hat. Es sind darüber hinaus zahlreiche neue Kunstwerke renommierter zeitgenössischer Künstler ins Estrel eingezogen. Künftig wird das Thema Kunst eine noch viel größere Bedeutung im Estrel erhalten und „Art“ als vierte Säule etabliert werden.

Neu ist auch unser kürzlich fertig gestelltes „Estrel Privée”. Der Private Dining Room eignet sich perfekt für Veranstaltungen im kleinen, privaten Rahmen. Für große Veranstaltungen hingegen hat sich die Erweiterung unseres Kongressbereichs vor drei Jahren als absolut richtig erwiesen.

Mit der zweiten Convention Hall ist es uns nun möglich, Leerstände durch Auf- und Abbauphasen auszugleichen. Dadurch können wir deutlich mehr Veranstaltungen realisieren und noch besser auf Kundenwünsche eingehen als vorher. Auch in diesem Jahr freuen wir uns auf viele großartige Events, zum Beispiel den Weltkongress der Aktuare (ICA 2018) mit 10.000 Teilnehmern, der im Juni erstmalig bei uns stattfinden wird.

Bei „Stars in Concert“ gibt es ebenfalls Neuigkeiten: Das Tina Turner Musical „Simply the Best“ hat im Februar im Estrel Premiere gefeiert und ergänzt nun unser Portfolio um eine weitere glamouröse, auch exklusiv buchbare Show.

Wir entwickeln uns stetig weiter. Für Sie, liebe Gäste, möchten wir stets besser werden und Ihnen gute Gründe geben, uns immer wieder zu besuchen. Dabei setzen wir vor allem auf das Engagement und die Kreativität unserer Mitarbeiter. Viele von ihnen begleiten die Entwicklung des Estrel schon sehr lange, sind seit 15, 20 oder mehr Jahren Teil des Estrel-Teams. So auch unsere Abteilungsleiter, die wir Ihnen in dieser Ausgabe der Estrel News vorstellen möchten.

Dear guests, If you haven’t been to the Estrel in a while, you’ll notice that we’ve made some changes. These are most apparent in our atrium, which has undergone a complete make-over, as have the restaurants and bars that inhabit it. There are also striking new additions to our art collection, which now features even more pieces by renowned contemporary artists. Indeed, art will play a much more integral role in the future as we intend for it to become the fourth pillar of the Estrel.

Another development is the recently finished ”Estrel Privée”. This private dining room is the perfect space for smaller, intimate events.

For larger events, the expansion of our conference area three years ago has proved itself worthwhile, as Convention Hall II now allows us to bridge time gaps resulting from event set-up and dismantling.

This means we can host a greater number of events and more fully meet the wishes of our clients. This year, we’re looking forward to lots of fascinating events, such as the 31st International Congress of Actuaries (ICA 2018). Taking place in June at the Estrel for the first time, it will attract 10,000 participants.

“Stars in Concert” has some news of its own. The Tina Turner musical “Simply the Best” held its premiere at the Estrel in February, and we can proudly add it to our line-up of glamorous shows, available for exclusive bookings.

Here at the Estrel, we never stand still. With an eye to our guests, we continually strive to give you the best service imaginable and even more reasons to keep visiting us. Naturally, it is the dedication and creativity of our staff that makes this all possible. Many members of our team have accompanied us on this great journey for between 15 and 20 years, some for even longer — among them are our department managers, who we will profile in this issue of the Estrel News.

Neuer Private Dining Room im Estrel „Estrel Privée“: Raum für exklusive Begegnungen

W

er sich für Besprechungen in privater Atmosphäre zurückziehen, exklusive Empfänge oder Dinner in Clublounge-Ambiente veranstalten oder gemeinsam mit den Estrel-Köchen kochen möchte, findet dafür im „Estrel Privée“ ideale Möglichkeiten. Der neue Private Dining Room ist der perfekte Ort für exklusive Veranstaltungen: Er ist zentral gelegen und dennoch separiert vom geschäftigen Treiben im Atrium. Der 140 Quadratmeter große, geschlossene Raum ist in die drei Bereiche Lounge, Dining Room und Showküche unterteilt. Sofas, Bücherregale, Fotos aus dem Estrel-Archiv und gedämpftes Licht schaffen Wohnzimmeratmosphäre.

Bis zu 40 Personen können im „Estrel Privée“ dinieren, die Showküche hat Platz für zehn Personen. Stehempfänge können für bis zu 60 Personen ausgerichtet werden.

Mit dem „Estrel Privée“ sind nun die Umbauarbeiten in dem 2.800 Quadratmeter großen Atrium abgeschlossen. Im vergangenen Jahr wurden sämtliche Bereiche neu gestaltet: Der Eingangsbereich mit Rezeptions- und Concierge-Tresen hat ein zeitlos schlichtes Design erhalten. Dieses findet sich auch in den beiden großen Atriumbars, von denen eine der beiden morgens zum Frühstück, tagsüber als Coworking-Table und abends als Cocktailbar genutzt werden kann.

Alle vier Restaurants wurden komplett entkernt, mit offenen Showküchen ausgestattet und neu gestaltet. Statt der früheren meterhohen Bäume dienen nun 18 zwei Meter hohe, pflanzenberankte Wände als mobile Raumteiler und erinnern an einen grünen Garten. Das gesamte neue Design des Atriums ist geprägt durch klare Formen, natürliche Materialen, eine reduzierte Ordnung und zielt auf Nachhaltigkeit ab. Die Investition beträgt insgesamt 7,2 Millionen Euro.

Estrel’s new private dining room “Estrel Privée”: an exclusive place to meet Looking to meet in subdued and quiet surroundings, a place to host an exclusive reception or a club lounge ambience for a private dinner? Or perhaps you‘d like to create your own meal together with Estrel‘s chefs?

If so, look no further than the „Estrel Privée“. The new private dining room is the perfect place for exclusive events: central and yet separate from the bustle of the atrium. Measuring 140 square meters, the room is divided into three areas: lounge, dining room and open-plan kitchen. Sofas, bookshelves, photos from the Estrel archives, and soft dimmed lights all give it a living room feel. Up to 40 people can comfortably dine in the „Estrel Privée“, with the kitchen itself allowing for up to ten people.

Standing receptions of 60 are also feasible.

The completion of the „Estrel Privée“ marks the end of the renovation work in the 2,800 square meter atrium. In the last year, various areas have undergone redesign. The reception desk and ticket counter have been updated to reflect a new, timelessly elegant look with an emphasis on simplicity. This aesthetic is also reflected in the atrium‘s two large bars, one of which serves breakfast in the mornings and cocktails at night, as well as providing co-working spaces in the afternoon. All four restaurants, now outfitted with open-plan kitchens, were gutted and rebuilt. Where once meter-high trees stood, 18 movable two-meter-high room partitions adorned with plants create a lush garden aesthetic. 7.2 million euros were invested in the new interior, which favors clarity and features the Estrel’s signature brand of elegance paired with functionality.

Art – die vierte Säule des Estrel Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst im Estrel

E

s ist ein imposantes Kunstwerk: Silbrig flimmernd dreht sich ein fast sechs Meter großes Mobile unterhalb des Atriumdachs um die eigene Achse. Trotz der Größe wirkt die hängende Skulptur filigran, die durch einen Motor angetriebene Bewegung leicht und fast schon hypnotisierend. Das eindrucksvolle Kunstwerk aus Metall ist eine Arbeit des berühmten deutschen Künstlers Anselm Reyle und ist seit Anfang des Jahres im Estrel zu bewundern. Das Werk war zuvor in der König Galerie ausgestellt – bis Kunstmäzenin Dr. Sigrid Streletzki es dort sah und kurzerhand für ihre Sammlung erwarb.

In der Kunstszene sind die Estrel-Eigentümer Ekkehard und Dr. Sigrid Streletzki seit langem als Kenner und Sammler bekannt. Auch ihre Tochter Kira teilt ihre Leidenschaft: Sie hat ein Studium der zeitgenössischen Kunst in New York absolviert. Nach dem Umbau und der Neugestaltung des Atriums haben die Streletzkis zahlreiche neue Kunstwerke im Estrel zusammengetragen. Neben Reyles Windspiel ist auch eines seiner berühmten Folienbilder zu sehen, ebenso wie die großformatigen Werke weiterer namhafter zeitgenössischer Künstler wie Jonas Burgert, Thomas Scheibitz, Brent Wadden, Christian Rosa, Shahzia Sikander, Gregor Hildebrandt, Melike Kara, Donna Huanca, Stefan Brüggemann, Josh Smith, David Ostrowski und Felix Kiessling. Beeindruckend sind auch die neuen Skulpturen im Eingangsbereich des Estrel: „The big marble Sneaky Snake“ von der renommierten Schweizer Künstlerin Claudia Comte und „Sigrid 2017“ des uruguayischen Künstlers Pablo Atchugarry, die sogar nach Dr. Sigrid Streletzki benannt ist.

Das Thema Kunst hat eine lange Tradition im Estrel: So gehört seit der Eröffnung 1994 der große Brunnen „Le Grand Peroquet“ des bekannten französischen Keramikkünstlers und Picasso-Weggefährten Gilbert Portanier zu den Blickfängen des Hauses – so wie auch 2.000 Originalbilder russischer Künstler, die die Zimmer, Suiten und Flure des Estrel in eine außergewöhnliche Kunstgalerie verwandeln.

Mit dieser bemerkenswerten Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst erhält das Estrel zusätzlich zu seinen drei Säulen Tagen, Wohnen und Entertainment eine weitere einzig­ artige Komponente, die den Besuch des Hauses lohnenswert macht. In Zukunft soll das Thema Kunst eine noch viel größere Bedeutung im Estrel erhalten und „Art“ als vierte Säule etabliert werden.

Art – Estrel’s fourth pillar A collection of contemporary art at the Estrel An impressive work of art hangs from the roof of the atrium: an almost six meter large mobile shimmers as it catches the light, turning on its own axis. Despite its size, the hanging sculpture has a certain delicacy, complemented by its effortless and mesmerising motor-powered movement. The striking metal piece is the work of the famous German artist Anselm Reyle, and has graced the Estrel since the beginning of the year. The sculpture was previously displayed in Berlin’s König Galerie, until it caught the eye of a patroness of the arts, Dr. Sigrid Streletzki, who jumped at the chance to add it to her collection.

The Estrel owners Ekkehard and Dr. Sigrid Streletzki are known in the art world as aficionados and collectors. Their daughter, Kira, shares their passion and studied contemporary art in New York. In conjuction with the redesign of the atrium, the Streletzkis began to acquire numerous new works of art for the Estrel. In addition to Reyle’s sculpture, one of his famous foil sheet paintings is also displayed, as well as several large-scale pieces by acclaimed contemporary artists like Jonas Burgert, Thomas Scheibitz, Brent Wadden, Christian Rosa, Shahzia Sikander, Gregor Hildebrandt, Melike Kara, Donna Huanca, Stefan Brüggemann, Josh Smith, David Ostrowski, and Felix Kiessling.

The new sculptures in Estrel’s reception area are equally impressive: “The Big Marble Sneaky Snake”, by the well-known Swiss artist Claudia Compte, and “Sigrid 2017”, by the Uruguayan artist Pablo Atchugarry, which is even named after Dr. Sigrid Streletzki.

Art has a long-standing tradition at the Estrel. Since its opening in 1994, the big fountain “Le Grand Peroquet“ by the famous French ceramic artist and contemporary of Picasso, Gilbert Portanier, has been catching guests’ eyes, as have the 2,000 original paintings by Russian artists, which have transformed our rooms, suites and corridors into a very special art gallery.

The three pillars of the Estrel — convention, hotel and entertainment — are perfectly balanced by this remarkable collection of contemporary art, making a visit truly worthwhile. Art will continue to grow more significant and is set to become the fourth pillar of the Estrel.

„Simply the Best“ für Ihr Event Exklusives Entertainment aus dem Estrel: Das Tina Turner Musical ist die neueste Showproduktion von „Stars in Concert“

ie ist bis heute die erfolgreichste Rocksängerin der Welt: Tina Turner! Ihr bewegtes Leben und großartiges künstlerisches Werk stehen im Fokus des Tina Turner Musicals „Simply the Best“, das im Februar im Estrel Premiere feierte. Die zweieinhalbstündige Show erzählt von den Anfangs­erfolgen des Duos „Ike & Tina Turner“, dem Scheitern einer großen Liebe und schließlich, nach der Trennung von Ike Turner, Tinas Neuanfang und ihrem raketenartigen Aufstieg in den 80ern. The Tina Turner musical ”Simply the Best“, which premiered at the Estrel in February, focuses on both her turbulent private life and her awe-inspiring musical talent. The two-and-a-half hour show tells the story of a star: from her early successes as part of the duo ”Ike & Tina Turner“, via her break-up with Ike, up until her reinvention as a solo artist that sent her rocketing to superstardom in the 1980s. The musical looks back on the unique career of an international star — replete with show-stopping platinum hits like ”Proud Mary“, ”Notbush City Limits“, ”Private Dancer“ and ”We Don‘t Need Another Hero“. ”Simply the Best“ is the most recent stage production brought to life by the award-winning producer Bernhard Kurz, whose cult show ”Stars in Concert“ has wowed 5.5 million viewers over the last 20 years. Sommer an der Sonnenallee Der Estrel Sommergarten startet in die Saison

W

enn die Temperaturen steigen und die Sonne nach draußen lockt, lädt auch der Estrel Sommergarten wieder zum Entspannen direkt am Wasser ein. Mit einer terrassen­ förmigen Treppenanlage, Springbrunnen und großen schattenspendenden Kastanienbäumen ist der Sommergarten ein beliebter Treffpunkt an der Sonnenallee. Kühle Getränke und Herzhaftes vom Grill gibt es im Pavillon.

Und für die kommende Saison hat sich Estrel-Küchenchef Peter Griebel etwas Besonderes einfallen lassen: Eine 24 Stunden im Ofen saftig gegarte Pommersche Weide-Rinderkeule mit Rosmarin-Rauchsauce, in Joghurt mariniertem Karotten-Krautsalat und Kartoffelbrötchen.

Der Sommergarten ist von April bis Oktober geöffnet. Vom hoteleigenen Bootsanleger werden Schiffstouren zu Berlins Sehenswürdigkeiten angeboten.

Summer on Sonnenallee Estrel‘s Summer Garden opens for the season Estrel-Küchenchef / Culinary Director Peter Griebel

Just as the temperature starts climbing again and the sun draws you outside, the Estrel Summer Garden invites you to relax on the banks of the canal. With a terrace-shaped stairway offering amphitheatre-like seating, a fountain and a majestic, shady chestnut trees, the Summer Garden is the perfect meeting point just off of Sonnenallee. The snack pavilion offers refreshing cold drinks as well as food straight from the barbecue. And this coming season, the Estrel‘s chef Peter Griebel has cooked up something truly special: tender Pomeranian beef shank, oven-roasted for 24 hours and served with a smoky rosemary sauce, alongside a carrot coleslaw with a yoghurt dressing and a potato bread roll.

The Summer Garden is open from April through October. Leaving directly from Estrel‘s own landing pier, boat tours take you past some of Berlin‘s most-beloved sights.
