What qualities do you associate with the Estrel Berlin? When I think of the Estrel, ”flexible“ is the first word that comes to mind. And by that, I don‘t just mean the flexible spaces for events and conventions, but also the attitude of the whole team. They‘re very supportive and offer a wealth of expertise and advice to help you plan your event and bring it to life. When deciding where to hold an event, what ultimately makes you choose the Estrel? The Estrel offers its guests a perfect balance of hotel accommodations, conference rooms and event facilities, all under one roof. Their team never misses a beat, and the spaces are outfitted with all of the equipment you need. It‘s an excellent value for your money. Do you have any upcoming events scheduled at the Estrel in the near future? The 107th annual conference of the Association of German Librarians will be hosted at the Estrel in 2018, requiring the use of 15 lecture rooms at any one time. We anticipate 4,000 visitors, including 150 exhibitors.

Die freitragende Convention Hall II, ein Zwilling der benachbarten Convention Hall I, ist 4.600 Quadratmeter groß, mehr als elf Meter hoch und hat eine Spannweite von 75 Metern. Ab sofort stehen somit im Estrel Congress & Messe Center 25.000 Quadratmeter Fläche für bis zu 12.000 Gäste zur Verfügung! Durch diese Erweiterung können wir nun wesentlich flexibler die Auf- und Abbauzeiten überbrücken und Ihnen ein fast unbegrenztes Raumangebot bieten. Natürlich wurde im Zuge der Neueröffnung auch die Convention Hall I komplett renoviert, so dass auch diese in neuem Glanz erstrahlt. Als erstes Event fand Anfang September ein Kongress eines internationalen Elektro-Großhandels mit 2.000 Besuchern statt. After just under 13 months of construction, we’re proud to present our newly completed large-scale event space. Spanning 10,000 square metres, the new space could house a full-size football field – with room to spare. The cantilevered Convention Hall II, which is 75 metres from end to end with 11.5-metre-high ceilings, serves as a companion piece to its established neighbour, Convention Hall I, and offers a further 4,600 square metres of event space. In total, the Estrel Congress & Messe Center has 25,000 square metres of space at its

disposal and is capable of accommodating the needs of up to 12,000 visitors! These new additions give us increased flexibility when scheduling event setup and dismantling, putting a nearly infinite selection of spatial arrangements at our fingertips. To make the grand opening festivities even grander, we completely renovated Convention Hall I to best complement the beautiful new event spaces. In early September, 2,000 visitors attended our inaugural event, hosted by an internationally active electronics wholesaler. In the coming months, we will welcome as many as 3,000 guests to a range of events that runs the gamut from medical conventions and international corporate conferences to star-studded

festivities such as the Champions Gala – recognising Berlin’s athletes of the year – and this December’s José Carreras television special. By the end of the year, we expect 27,390 visitors to have set foot in Convention Hall II, and the lineup of events already scheduled for the coming year ensures that this number grows to at least 39,500 in 2016.

Am 1. September dieses Jahres eröffnete Estrel-Eigentümer Ekkehard Streletzki den neuen Tagungskomplex des Estrel Berlin. Dank gründlicher Planung und exzellenter Bauleitung durch Werner Kuschel, der bereits den Bau des Estrel Hotel und der Convention Hall I betreute, konnte die Convention Hall II mit Platz für bis zu 5.200 Personen, der Saal Europa für 900 Personen sowie ein 700 Quadratmeter großes Foyer, vier Tagungsräume, drei Lounges und eine Großküche in einer sensationell kurzen Bauzeit von nur einem Jahr errichtet werden. Das gesamte Estrel Congress & Messe Center verfügt nun über 25.000 Quadratmeter Fläche und kann ab sofort auch Weltkongresse für bis zu 12.000 Besucher beherbergen.

RAUM FÜR NEUES ESTREL ERÖFFNET 10.000 QM GROSSE CONVENTION HALL II

„Wir freuen uns sehr über die planmäßige Fertigstellung. Bereits heute sind wir mit über 1.800 Veranstaltungen und 360.000 Besuchern im Jahr ein fester Bestandteil der Berliner Kongress- und Messelandschaft. Mit der Erweiterung werden wir diese Rolle ausbauen und neue internationale Veranstaltungen in die Metropole bringen“, erklärt Streletzki. Mit den zusätzlichen Kapazitäten können ab sofort zwei Großveranstaltungen parallel stattfinden. „Sonst waren wir mit einem großen Event sowie den Auf- und Abbauzeiten oft für weitere Veranstaltungen blockiert, doch mit den beiden jeweils knapp 5.000 Quadratmeter großen Veranstaltungshallen ist nun ausreichend Platz vorhanden”, so Ute Jacobs, Geschäftsführende Direktorin. Und damit alles wie aus einem Guss wirkt, wurde die Ende 1999 errichtete Convention Hall I im Sommer dieses Jahres komplett renoviert. Die neue Veranstaltungshalle beinhaltet einige technische Finessen, die sich insbesondere bei TV-Produktionen bemerkbar machen. Wenn hier Licht- und Kameratechnik installiert werden, stehen an der 11,5 Meter hohen Decke 180 Hängepunkte mit je einer Tonne Traglast zur Verfügung. Um Schallreflexionen zu vermeiden, erhielten alle Wände eine Verkleidung mit Akustikplatten. Beim Fußbodenbelag fiel die Entscheidung auf edles Hirnholzparkett. Insgesamt 32 Firmen waren auf der Baustelle tätig, in Spitzenzeiten arbeiteten bis zu 75 Arbeiter gleichzeitig. Für das neue Estrel Congress & Messe Center wurde das Inventar um 1,1 Kilometer Traversen, 70.000 Besteckelemente, 35.500 neue Gläser, 25.000 Geschirrteile und 780 Tische erweitert. „Zudem wurden 50 weitere feste Mitarbeiter eingestellt“, erklärt Thomas Brückner, Geschäftsführender Direktor. Für die Innenarchitektur wurde Susanne Brandherm von dem prämierten Architekturbüro b-k-i Brandherm + Krumrey interior architecture beauftragt. Das Konzept besteht darin, eine individuelle und ansprechende Atmosphäre zu schaffen, ohne dadurch die Funktionalität einzuschränken.

Doch künftig wird das Estrel nicht nur Gastveranstaltungen beherbergen: Die im Herbst 2014 neu gegründete Abteilung New Business entwickelt unter der Leitung von Manuel Wrobel eigene Konzepte für Messen. „Wir suchen Themen, die bislang noch nicht umgesetzt wurden“, so Wrobel. Den Anfang macht die Publikumsmesse „sleep for fit“ vom 15. bis 17. April 2016, bei der sich alles um gesundes und erholsames Schlafen dreht.

WIDE OPEN SPACES ESTREL OPENS 10,000-SQUARE-METRES CONVENTION HALL II

”We‘re especially excited to have been able to unveil the expansion on schedule. We play an integral role in the Berlin conference and convention landscape, hosting over 1,800 events with upwards of 360,000 guests a year. The expansion allows us to bolster our position and encourage new international groups to hold their events in Germany‘s capital“, says Streletzki. With the additional capacity, the Estrel can now host two large-scale events at the same time. ”In the past, a big event would block the calendar for other events“, says Managing Director Ute Jacobs. This also included time spent setting up and dismantling the hall. Now, with each of the large event spaces boasting just under 5,000 square metres each, there‘s plenty of room for everyone. To ensure that the entire Center works as a unified whole, Convention Hall I, which was built at the end of 1999, was also completely renovated.

The new event hall sports finely-tuned technical details, which are especially useful during TV productions. Lighting and camera technology can be installed along the 11.5-metre-high ceiling on 180 suspension points, each with the capacity to support one tonne of weight. To cut down on sound reflection, the walls are lined with acoustic panels. The flooring features a fine-grained wood parquet. A total of 32 companies lent their expertise to the project, and at peak stages, up to 75 workers were actively engaged on site at the same time. With the addition of Convention Hall II, the Estrel Congress & Messe Center‘s entire inventory has also grown by 1.1 kilometres of suspension rods, 70,000 pieces of cutlery, 35,500 glasses, 25,000 pieces of china and 780 tables. ”In addition, the Estrel was pleased to welcome 50 new employees to the permanent staff“, says Managing Director Thomas Brückner. The Estrel brought Susanne Brandherm from the award-winning architecture firm b-k-i brandherm + krumrey interior architecture on board to design the space‘s interior. Cultivating a personal and appealing atmosphere without compromising functionality was at the heart of the concept. Soon, the Estrel won‘t just play host to guest events, but will also feature house-branded trade fairs conceptualized by our brand new department, New Business. Launched in autumn 2014, the department is guided by Manuel Wrobel. ”We want to explore ideas that haven‘t been seen before“, says Wrobel. Their debut will be the public exhibition „sleep for fit“ from 15 to 17 April 2016, whose focus is achieving healthy, restful sleep.

On September 1st the new convention complex of the Estrel Berlin was introduced by its owner Ekkehard Streletzki. Thanks to the thoughtful planning and excellent site management of Werner Kuschel, who already supervised the construction of the Estrel Hotel and Convention Hall I, the venue was opened on time after a short construction period of only 13 months. The new building features the Convention Hall II with capacity for up to 5,200 guests, Hall Europe for 900 guests as well as a 700 square meters foyer, four meeting rooms, three lounges and a kitchen. This new addition brings the Estrel Congress & Messe Center‘s total event space up to over 25,000 square metres, promising even more room for conventions, meetings, special trade fairs and world congresses for up to 12,000 visitors.

Im Februar 2015 präsentierte sich die 17. Inter­nationale Kongressmesse für Kundenservice, -kommunikation und Call Center, CCW, im Estrel Congress & Messe Center. Dem Ruf der weltweit wichtigsten Leitmesse für Call Center folgten 7.600 Teilnehmer. Damit wurde der Teilnehmer­rekord vom Vorjahr wiederholt. Die Besucher konnten sich über Dienstleistungen und Produkte aus der Call Center-Branche bei 256 Ausstellern aus 20 Ländern informieren.

In February 2015, the 17th International Call Center World drew upwards 7,600 visitors to the Estrel, matching the record attendance of the previous year. As the leading trade fair for customer service, communication and call center services, CCW 2015 enabled the visitors to gather information about call center products and services from the 256 exhibitors from 20 different countries.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Rund 3.800 Handelspartner, Lieferanten und Gäste fanden sich anlässlich der Jahreshauptversammlung der MHK Group zwei Tage lang im April 2015 im Estrel Congress & Messe Center ein, um sich bei einer Tagung und einem stimmungsvollen GalaAbend über neue Konzepte und Projekte auszu­ tauschen. Zudem konnten sich die Besucher auf 5.000 Quadratmetern Ausstellungsfläche über die neuesten Kücheninnovationen informieren. In April, on the occasion of the MHK Group’s annual general assembly, roughly 3,800 industry partners, suppliers and guests enjoyed two days at the Estrel Congress & Messe Center discussing new design concepts and projects during both the conference and elegant gala dinner. In addition, show visitors were able to acquaint themselves with the latest in kitchen innovation presented in the 5,000 square meter exhibition area.

LR Health & Beauty Systems, eines der erfolgreichsten Direktvertriebsunternehmen Europas, lud im Mai 2015 anlässlich seines 30. Jubiläums zur Global Leader Convention in die Estrel Convention Hall I ein. Bei der glamourösen Veranstaltung wurden 2.700 Vertriebspartner aus 28 Ländern über Produktneuheiten informiert und feierten mit Celebrities wie Schauspieler-Legende Bruce Willis und Ehefrau Emma, Topmodel Karolina Kurkova sowie DJ Antoine bis spät in die Nacht. In May 2015, LR Health & Beauty Systems – one of Europe‘s most successful direct selling companies – hosted their Global Leader Convention at the Estrel. Honouring the company‘s 30th anniversary, the glamorous event featured 2,700 guests from 28 different countries. The sensational evening served as an opportunity for partners to glean hot-off-the-press information about new products, as well as celebrate late into the night with celebrities such as acting legend Bruce Willis and his wife, Emma, top model Karolina Kurkova and DJ Antoine.

JOSÉ CARRERAS GALA LIVE AUS DEM ESTREL GLANZ UND GLAMOUR FÜR DEN GUTEN ZWECK Der spanische Star-Tenor José Carreras wird seine alljährliche TV-Spendengala 2015 zum ersten Mal in Berlin veranstalten. Die 21. „José Carreras Gala“ wird am 17. Dezember live aus der Convention Hall II im Estrel Berlin auf dem Sender SAT.1 Gold ab 20.15 Uhr übertragen. In den Vorjahren wählte der Sänger Leipzig sowie Rust als Orte für seine mit zahlreichen Prominenten gespickte Gala. Carreras sammelt mit Hilfe dieser Veranstaltung Geld für den Kampf gegen Blutkrebs, an dem er selbst 1987 erkrankte und diesen durch eine Knochenmarktransplantation besiegen konnte. Dank der Spenden konnten damit über 1.000 Projekte

finanziert werden, die der Erforschung von Leukämie dienen. Das ehrgeizige Ziel José Carreras: „Leukämie muss heilbar werden. Immer und bei jedem.“ Seit der Premiere im Jahr 1995 unterstützen jedes Jahr vor Weihnachten bekannte internationale und nationale Künstler den Weltstar José Carreras im Kampf gegen Leukämie und so konnten bisher über 100 Millionen Euro an Spendengeldern gesammelt werden. For the first time ever, Spanish star tenor José Carreras will host this year‘s annual TV fundraising gala in Berlin. On 17 December, the 21st José Carreras Gala will be broadcast live from the Estrel‘s Convention Hall II on SAT. 1 Gold beginning at 8:15 pm. In previous years, Leipzig and Rust have played host to the singer‘s celebrity-studded gala. Carreras was diagnosed with leukaemia in 1987. With the help of a bone marrow transplant, he was able to beat the disease into remission. Ever since, he has used the event as a platform to raise money for the fight against leukaemia. His

Leukaemia Foundation sponsors research into the disease and provides aid to patients. Carreras‘s goal is ambitious: ”We must find a cure for leukaemia: for every person, every time“. Since its premiere in 1995, renowned artists from Germany and around the world have gathered together each year at Christmas­ time to support the cause. On 7 September, the show celebrated its 18th anniversary with a birthday spectacular for 300 special guests. Since September 1997, look-and-sound-alike artists performing as music icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Robbie Williams and many other showbiz greats have wowed audiences from Berlin and around the world. This October, a new act graces the ”Stars in Concert“ stage: ”Helene Fischer“ will be the first German-language singer to join the show. The German pop queen is brought to life by Bridie June Davies, who hits all the right notes – both vocally and physically. The start of Advent marks the arrival of the holiday season, as the world‘s best look-and-sound-alike artists bring cheer to audiences with American Christmas carols.
