Know God, Follow God.

JUNE JULY 2015

Know God, Follow God.

Know God, Follow God that’s what we, as Christians, seek to do every day. In this Edition of Transformed we’re highlighting some of the ways you can Know God, i.e. through hearing God’s Word shared in Sunday Services and spending 15 minutes in your Chair reading His Word to us, the Bible. You’ll also read how HumeRidge members are seeking to Follow God by serving Him around the world by using their skills and abilities. Everyday people, just like you and me, making a difference by helping others in practical ways and to hear about Jesus.

contents 2 The Mystery of God in Trinity Neale Proellocks

At the Global Leadership Summit a few years ago Christine Caine said “We were made for this moment, born to bring life, love, hope and liberty, to a lost and broken world.” God has a purpose and plan for your life, in this moment. By seeking to know God and following Him you can understand more fully His purpose and plan for your life and live life to it’s full. By sharing God’s Word we can help other’s Know God so they too can live a life full of meaning and purpose.

Know God, Follow God! Some days it's not easy. His ways are beyond our comprehension and He asks us to trust Him know matter what. Through joy, sorrow, triumph and loss continuing to seek to Know God and Follow God is a matter of choice. Will you declare with me today, as Joshua did so long ago, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

NEALE PROELLOCKS

Aiden Wilson Tozer was a prophetic voice to the church in the mid-20th century. In his book, ‘The Knowledge of the Holy’, he wrote these words. “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” “The history of mankind will probably show that no people has ever risen above its religion… and no religion has ever been greater than its idea of God.” Correct thinking of God is incredibly important because more consequences in life stem from our thought of God than any other thing. Romans 1 says that humans have suppressed God’s own disclosure of Himself, and have cook up their own limited, distorted ideas of God. Truth has been exchanged for lies, and both the Bible’s record of history and the daily news announce the devastating results. Even in the church, often our understanding of the One true God, owes more to the contemporary concepts of God than to God’s revelation of Himself. My contention is that no Bible truth is more likely to challenge our contrived

ideas of a manageable God, and lift us out of the muddle of our manufactured images of God than the great mystery of the Triune God. Some say, “But the word trinity does not appear in Scripture.” For others the idea of a Trinity is offensive and for many others it is illogical. But for those who come in faith to Scripture, the Trinity is a theological term used to describe the wonder of the mystery of the One, infinite, incomprehensible God of Holy Scripture. Over 3 Sundays in June we will look at the Biblical doctrine of the Trinity as we see again that the One true God in three Person touches every part of our lives.

PETER MILLICAN

Can you imagine a perfectly functioning husband getting his wife to cut up his food for him and then putting it on a spoon and waving her arm towards his mouth while saying “here comes the aeroplane, open up honey!” There’s something wrong about that picture. Or what about a wife who refuses to walk and insists her husband carries her everywhere they go. Sometimes it’s a piggyback, sometimes it’s on his shoulders, sometimes he holds her like a baby, and sometimes over the shoulder with the occasional pat on the back to help her burp. Before you get too excited about this prospect I think there’s something wrong about that picture too. What’s wrong about it? In both cases the adult has grown up physically but not emotionally.

They aren’t mature enough to even feed or walk themselves. When we picture this we can see how silly it is but what about when it comes to reading the Bible? Are these two pictures so far off from what our spiritual maturity is like when it comes to reading, interpreting and applying the scriptures to our lives? Some of us have been Christians for many years and still can’t accurately read the scriptures. In term three, our church wide series will be focusing on how to read the Bible. There will be some very practical teaching on how we are to read the Bible accurately for ourselves. It will be a five week series running through the month of August where we will be given practical steps to follow in order to handle God’s Word with accuracy, truth and practicality. Are you ready to grow in maturity HumeRidge?

John 15:4 says, “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor of Willow Creek Church in the US, often shares the importance of a daily appointment with God, and that when we intentionally connect with God we learn more, grow more, and are more effective.

PETE MILLICAN'S CHAIR

This year, we have challenged our Youth & Children’s ministry leaders to find their ‘chair’; a place where they can spend 15 minutes connecting with God. Our leaders have found this to be an extremely beneficial and worthwhile practice and have taken to photographing and sharing their ‘chairs’. Take a look, and be encouraged by our young leaders who see the importance of growing with God!

In 9 working days our team of 16 people constructed a building 35m long and 10m wide from pouring the concrete slab to screwing down the roof.

We want to thank you the members of HumeRidge, for your generosity and for your obedience to God in funding and supporting the building of this new girl’s dormitory. But the glory for this all belongs to God not to any of us… He inspired us and led us to this project. We have prayed for and seen God provide funds, He gave us wisdom and guidance in preparation and planning, He choose a capable team of workers and followed through to protect them and watch over their health and their families. We saw Him provide perfect weather in order for us to work and provide strength and unity in our team and our church. We have a great God and we have so much to thank Him for. In 9 working days our team of 16 people constructed a building 35m long and 10m wide from pouring the concrete slab to screwing down the roof.

We are Christ’s body and God has used this body, each doing its part, to accomplish something great for His kingdom. The dormitory building is just a tool. It’s who will live and sleep in there is what is important. And maybe for decades to come many young women will come to ICCM and train for the ministry to be used by God to bring hundreds possibly thousands people into His Kingdom. But it is not finished yet and God has provided another team of workers to return in July to finish the building. The major jobs we have to do are: • 350m2 of ceiling to up, • wire and fit off the electrical, • fit off the plumbing, and; • paint the interior. Please pray for our team they prepare for the trip leaving Australia July 16.

In October this year we as a church will be bring to Toowoomba the President of ICCM and one of the students. So as to benefit them, as well as us, they will attend the Global Leadership Summit and they will bring to us first hand news of the working of the college and what God is doing there. They will also visit some Home Groups, Sunday Services and maybe a couple of other churches in our area. Arthur, the president, is a very godly man and a great ambassador for the college. Please mark it in your diary.

In 2013 Pastor Waqa (pronounce Wonga) and his wife Ako (Arko) from Fiji were sponsored by some individual HumeRidge Home Groups to attend the Global Leadership Summit. Pastor Waga’s miraculous testimony and powerful ministry had a great impact on these Home Groups. They have continued to support this Fijian Ministry through prayer, visitation and providing financial support for building materials and teaching resources. Pastor Waqa purchased Church land in Nadi in 2013 with a vision to build a Church and Training Centre to equip the Church and help the community become self-sufficient in the future. To date Pastor Waqa has planted 7 churches in local villages and outer islands and is busy overseeing and mentoring these local pastors.

The Church Community at Nadi have been proactive having now dug a well by hand through 4 meters of solid rock. With help they have been able to connect electricity and equip their well with a pump to provide clean water. The Church at Nadi is in its infancy but already God is doing amazing things amongst the people. By partnering with, and coming alongside, Pastor Waqa, we hope to help the Church achieve their vision of becoming a self-sufficient community which ministers to the needs of their local community and shares the light of Christ. We can do this through provision of basic resources, teaching supplies, agricultural support and crops, as well as assistance with building needs.

We praise God for what He is doing in Fiji and invite you to partner with Him.

As the infrastructure stage of our partnership with ICCM comes to a conclusion, it is time to come along side our friends at Gandep and partner with them to help maintain their infrastructure. The Gandep Training College is the hope of the local community and it needs a little help to continue to keep this hope alive. The college desperately needs: • Repair to existing buildings which have been eaten by white ants and need new rooves. • Accommodation for more students • Water storage The first step is to build an access road allowing in building supplies and machinery. This also opens up a trade route for the villagers and makes it possible to establish a school, medical clinic and trade outpost at the college.

An infrastructure project in one of the remotest areas of the world is a complex challenge. Much work has been done over the past 5 years: • E stablishing a Project Advisory Team of 7 people. •A Mission Shed has been built in Placid Hills were work is being undertaken on machinery on a weekly basis. Some of the major equipment required has been purchased and refurbished in the Mission Shed including: • John Deer M170 Tractor (New) • Cat 313G Excavator (Used) • Cat 920G Loader (Used) • 8m Trailer (Extensively refurbished) • 8m Tipping Trailer (Extensively refurbished) • Tipping Truck with Crane (Used)
