The tenet of belonging has been critical to the work of Hued Songs since our inception. It is at the core of the performances we create, how we engage with artists, and how we show up in and with our community Our Backing Black Belonging series, though, has helped us shape our work even more deeply in this area. It is a mantra, an action statement, a commitment to doing everything we can to use Black music and creativity to imbue our community with belonging for all. This year we have found belonging in so many places- some expected, some beautifully surprising- from the collaborators we worked alongside, the artists we call family, the spaces that continually open their doors to us. Thank you.
Tonight’s performance centers a question- "Where do we belong?Part concert, part reflection-we’ll excavate the many ways place and location play a critical role in shaping belonging and how they are interwoven.
Tonight’s performance is a celebration of Black artistry, Black creativity, Black innovation, and- yes- Black Belonging. It is a testament as to what is possible when we build and nourish platforms for artists to be seen- truly seen.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. thank you to the amazing artists here tonight who are sharing their talents and their joys.
