WORLD PREMIÈRE PRODUCTION PART II OF THE HULL TRILOGY “Yer Dad’s ship. It’s missing.” Kay’s Dad and brother both work on the ships, so having them come and go is part of the ebb and flow of life. Even so, as she helps Dad to pack for his next trip on the Trawler Gaul, Kay slips her Sindy-doll into his bag, just for luck.

When the 36-man crew is lost off the coast of Norway the close-knit community cling together in the search for the truth. Was the Gaul the victim of a storm, or a casualty of Cold War hostilities? Or is this a case of fault and blame? As the mystery ripples through the years and life moves on, Kay struggles to free herself from the tragedy and all that remains unanswered. No trawler tragedy has caused as much controversy as the loss of the Gaul in 1974. This new play by Hull-born writer Janet Plater explores the journeys of the wives and relatives who were left behind, through the discovery of the wreck by a TV documentary crew in 1997 and the government inquiry in 2004 to the present day.

THE COMPLETE DEATHS DIRECTED AND ADAPTED BY TIM CROUCH PERFORMED BY SPYMONKEY: AITOR BASAURI, STEPHAN KREISS, PETRA MASSEY & TOBY PARK DESIGNED BY LUCY BRADRIDGE LIGHTING BY PHIL SUPPLE ORIGINAL MUSIC BY TOBY PARK There are 74 onstage deaths in the works of William Shakespeare - 75 if you count the black ill-favoured fly killed in Titus Andronicus. From the Roman suicides in Julius Caesar to the death fall of Prince Arthur in King John; from the carnage at the end of Hamlet to snakes in a basket in Antony & Cleopatra. And then there’s the pie that Titus serves his guests. Spymonkey will perform them all - sometimes lingeringly, sometimes messily, sometimes movingly, sometimes musically, always hysterically. The four “seriously, outrageously, cleverly funny clowns” (Time Magazine) will scale the peaks of sublime poetry, and plumb the depths of darkest depravity. It may even be the death of them. Adapted and directed by Tim Crouch (I, Malvolio, An Oak Tree, Adler & Gibb), The Complete Deaths will be a solemn, sombre and sublimely funny tribute to the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Age Recommendation 14+

HOPE & SOCIAL MITCH BENN “I’m a skeptic. But don’t take my word for it. Or indeed anybody’s. For anything...” this is the basic premise of Mitch’s new critically acclaimed show. It’s a show that will make you laugh a lot and think a bit as well as Mitch debunks myths, exposes nonsense and grapples with the very nature of knowledge itself, extolling the virtues of an evidence-based approach to life... with amusing consequences and of course a few songs along the way. The Now Show aside, Mitch has recently co-presented with Harry Shearer BBC Radio 2’s Anatomy Of A Guitar as well performing Mitch Benn Is The 37th Beatle and presenting Spank The Plank both for BBC Radio 4. An occasional series where Mitch takes his unique and quirky look at a few more rock icons has been commissioned by Radio 4.

Hope and Social are a band... but not just a band. As well as the proper bandy type things like gigging, touring, playing festivals, making and releasing records, they also like to involve people in most everything they do. Whether that's teaching 1200 people their songs in 8 weeks - to play with them on their Tour of Infinite Possibility, embarking upon a magical-mysteryopen-top-bus-trip with their fans for a secret gig on a beach, or turning their studio into a bistro and conducting a 70 strong wine-bottle orchestra on their records... Hope and Social like to have a lot of fun, and make art. Oh, and they wear blue jackets and aim to die with their hearts out in bloom. H&S create events to remember – they really do.

WHEN WE ARE MARRIED BY J B PRIESTLEY DIRECTED BY BARRIE RUTTER

Cleckleywyke, a town in the West Riding, 1908. The Helliwells, the Parkers and the Soppitts are highly respected pillars of their community… but not for much longer. Married on the same day in the same chapel, they gather to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. The celebrations are short lived when they discover the vicar wasn’t licensed and they are actually not married. In fact, they have been living in sin for 25 years. Watch with mounting glee as the pandemonium switches from horrified social embarrassment to the realisation that they are free from the shackles of long tedious marriages. Home truths are dealt, bullies get their retribution and the hen-pecked are hilariously and most satisfyingly liberated. J B Priestley’s heartily entertaining northern comedy plays right into the hands of the remarkable Northern Broadsides – a company celebrated by audiences for its charisma, vitality and relish of language.

AHIR SHAH: MACHINES FOR AGES 5+

Join us down the ten foot to lark about and tell four fantastical stories in one play created from the imaginations of children aged 8 - 11 from Hull. We’ll drive a spaceship and an Audio R8, we’ll battle Zombie snakes who’ve captured our best friend the Husky, we’ll journey into the ocean on a boat made from a bath and we’ll teleport across the galaxies to meet a cowboy penguin and Nicki Minaj. Anything is possible… Through story workshops with the children in Years 4, 5 and 6 at Bridgeview Whitehouse Sullivan Centre in Hull, four classes have created four stories. These stories have been handed to the company to turn into a brand new show.

Ahir wants to believe in a future where democracy flourishes, technology liberates us from work, and we all get to rub our bellies in satisfaction at a job well done. However, he's also feeling powerless to enact change, alienated from his fellow lefties, and increasingly anxious about the state of the world after getting caught up in the Paris attacks. He’s got a lot of concerns; fortunately, they’re super funny. Combining questing polemic with hella sweet gags, Machines is a stand-up show about the uses and dangers of utopianism in a complex, fractured world. It contains an absolutely cracking joke about lizards.

“The point is: we’re losers. Nobodies. Carry on like this, we’re losers forever. And we don’t have to be. Fresh start, two months to completely one hundred per cent reinvent ourselves. And I know exactly how we can do that.” Megan, Holly and Ben are definitely not the cool kids. But Megan has a plan. One long summer holiday to change their lives. One sure path to coolness. One amazing transformation, through the power of song. Holed up in Megan’s garden shed, three old friends try to change their fortunes in a beautiful, heart-warming, laughout-loud coming-of-age story for our times. Rock on.
