CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S STOCK TAKE REPORT, 2004 – 2012

Inspire Invent Innovate Overall we continue to manage our finances to plan, such that we have been able to make another significant gift aid payment to the University in 2012, therefore amounting to a total gift aid sum of over £500K to the University for the last two years together, having broken-even on budget or made modest gift-aid payments in all other years since 2004. Our Key Performance Indicator measures are to-plan since our establishment, so we are performing at the right level in order to meet our July 2015 mission, goals and targets that were set for us in 2004 (and of course in a way that ensures that the business is well set-up for the 5 year plan period beyond 2015, ie to July 2020). We have been successful again in receiving and assessing a high number of invention disclosures (over 370 in 2012) and screening those and 38 new IP projects (representing £4.5M of seed funding) have been developed in the year.

We have also dealt effectively with the difficult economic climate for our type of investment by continued high levels of third party investments into the spin-outs (£16M in the most recent year) and with licensing propositions through increasing the number of deals negotiated and by lifting our annual revenue over £1M. Of course, every good company’s performance relies upon its people for success and I thank every Company and University colleague for the effort and commitment demonstrated to the intellectual property activities.

Mr Clive Rowland Chief Executive Officer
