Divya is results-driven with a "can-do" attitude, a go-to person for HR, and actively involved in corporate ESG projects. Additionally, she is an eco-friendly artist and sculptor.

INTERVIEW: DIVYA RAJITH- HRAI 50 UNDER 50 AWARD WINNER

What do you consider to be your most significant professional achievement, and how did it impact your career?

I

consider the great learning curve in short span as one of great achievement, thus far. Besides the individual recognitions received, I am delighted, continue to contribute to the recognitions for the workplace through industry, structured, timely rewards and recognitions.

What leadership principles or strategies have you found most effective in leading teams and organizations to success? -High Integrity as the most rated trait of your team and Transparency with the colleagues/team goes a long way paving greater paths of camaraderie and success thereby. -An immovable vision, plan of path to the vision is important. It is equally important to communicate the vision and the plan to the whole team who is involved to achieve the vision. -Know your team, their strengths and ineptitudes. Also genuinely help them identify their blind spots, blocks in their thoughts which will help them know their innate skills to work on and excel in life. -Always give turns to your team to lead the projects, which is also ahead of their competence so that they score higher than they thought. This will also help the team upskill in the most natural way. When they summarize the journey of the project, it will be a beautiful one and surprising that they scored beyond their thoughts.

What role do mentorship and collaboration play in your

your career? Have you had any influential mentors or collaborators who've shaped your professional journey?

-Ensure you stay updated on the news of your industry and how the future looks like to the organization and for your career growth.

I

-Always practice and make it a habit to Plan – Align – Act – Recall – Re-align (PAARR) -Every day, make sure we question ourselves, at least one attitude and one fixed mindset. This can develop a lot of understanding about ‘who and what’ is standing on the way to our own success.

t’s human nature to look up to the experienced and the elderly to learn what we do not know. Similarly, a lot to learn from the nature too. The day to day learning and fast paced projects has gone a long way which helped me always to look at the situations from a third-party perspective. As a result, I can assess critical points, arrive at quick and amicable solutions for any kind of situation. Be innovative to bring in knowledge to your projects and the team. Better collaboration and healthy conflicts go hand in hand to shape up to a healthier team. This knowledge comes handy as you age in your corporate life. I learn from every individual I come across in my personal and professional journey. Collaboration is all about you see the positive traits and skills in the person and consider the rest as their map of the world. It is easy to stride through any interaction if the intent is a positive outcome and not winning the argument. For outstanding outcomes of decisions, set your intent for ‘what’s right’ rather than ‘who’s right’.

What do you believe is the most critical skill or mindset for staying innovative and relevant in an ever-evolving industry? -Welcoming the minor and major changes coming your way. The uncomfortable gets comfortable when we give way to change without losing the intent’.

What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve the recognition you've earned in your field? - Upskilling is like daily exercise, do not try to skip it or have an end date. -Ask for help whenever required, clear your doubts to remove the clouds in your mind. Timely de-cluttering leads to aligning your ‘priorities’ in personal life and professional career. -Welcome all challenging, stretch projects which comes your way. Be rest assured of the learning, and you will see the thrill to have better and stretch assignments the next time. -Be clear enough to know your career/personal goals, to draw your own graph and ensure you reach milestones as ‘you’ decided. No one else is going to pave the path for you. -Do not get defeated by disdain or to the little voice in your head that says, ‘you are not good enough’. You have all resources you need to succeed. Figure it out and work on it and be rest assured of seeing yourself reach the peak. On a lighter note, one should have the same curiosity like how you find out the trending App on your phone.

INTERVIEW: DR. ANUBHA WALIA - HRAI 50 UNDER 50 AWARD WINNER

What do you consider to be your most significant professional achievement, and how did it impact your career?

I

t's important to note that significant professional achievements don't happen overnight. They often result from a combination of hard work, dedication, skill development, and seizing opportunities as they arise. Continuous learning and a commitment to excellence are key factors in achieving and building upon significant professional milestones. Some achievements provide a sense of personal satisfaction and fulfilment, motivating to continue pursuing excellence and this happened before the pandemic, two words stuck me Inclusion and Empowerment. I set an objective for achieving 3R (Reach, Review & Revenue) resulting in a 115% increase in coaching and training man-hours, our Google review rating improved to 4.8 from 4.6 and a 160%~ increase in revenue with major support of women professionals, leading to two case studies published on me and Prism Philosophy. First Case study published by Emerald Publishers on "PRISM Philosophy: Empowering women in COVID times!", The Case For Women (https://www.emerald.com/insight/con tent/doi/10.1108/ and second case "Inclusivity and empowerment— Grow and Let Grow" published by (Global Business and Organizational Excellence, John Wiley & Sons CFW.2020.000014/full/html https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10. 1002/joe.22136). Personally, my passion for coaching and facilitation helped me witness a newer version of myself, towards understanding how my KSA, compassion and intuitiveness are expanding. My learners are my yardsticks for continuous

improvement, as I perceive their their transformation as my success story. I will continue to Capitalise on my inherent warm and compassionate demeanour, to foster coaching and mentoring services for the unmet needs of my clients with a singular motive of “We Care”.

My Personal leadership approach is to GROW with a strong Sense of Purpose What leadership principles or strategies have you found most effective in leading teams and organizations to success?

I just know one thing - one doesn’t

have to be ALPHA male/female to be a great leader; just “be authentic and stick to your core values” this is what we follow at Prism, i.e. PRISM with 5E (Prepare to Envision, Respect towards Empowerment, Implement to Excel, Share and Endow, Maintain the Eminence) to foster an environment of trust and respect among team members. I have always tried to maintain a high standard of integrity by being transparent with my team. With my participants - 4E is important - Enlightening, Engaging and Entertaining with Energy is what I have always focussed and most importantly embracing the power of "yet" is a pivotal step. It empowers me and my team to see challenges as opportunities for growth, fosters a culture of continuous learning, and sets the stage for doing new things.

My Personal leadership approach is to GROW with a strong Sense of Purpose i.e. Gaining knowledge regularly, Reaching out to others for support or celebration, Opening the world with our services and Walking toward wisdom.

What role do mentorship and collaboration play in your career? Have you had any influential mentors or collaborators who've shaped your professional journey?

B

oth mentorship and collaboration are essential to shape our career because it enable us to learn, expand our skills, and broaden our horizons. In my personal space, my parents, my sisters, my naughty friends and now my daughter have played a significant role in shaping me, giving me perspective and helping me understand who Anubha is. Professionally, my seniors and industry experts have guided me in my journey. They not only challenged me but made me realise my potential. Over a period of time, I have realised when you develop a sense of curiosity, you embrace humility (recognizing the necessity of continual learning), and you consistently seek ways to improve. It requires you to never settle for where you are, to gain different perspectives by asking questions, and to explore alternatives for pathways to move toward your goals. I always say, keep a pulse on the values & beliefs you are living with and how you are changing and imbibing new behaviours. Your discussion with your mentors and coaches can further guide you to become a better version of Self.

INTERVIEW: DR. ANUBHA WALIA - HRAI 50 UNDER 50 AWARD WINNER

What do you believe is the most critical skill or mindset for staying innovative and relevant in an ever-evolving industry?

F

or me, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication are very general skills that taken together are a part of a larger category I call Innovation skills. Innovation is not only about creating new products or services, but also about finding new ways of doing things, solving problems, improving processes, or adapting to changing environments. Developing an innovation mindset can help you become more confident in your abilities to generate and implement novel ideas. There are many “microskills” that can make up these more general skills like being Curios and being creative.

38

Also, to master innovation the most critical skill required is a growth mindset. Growth almost always guarantees you will face challenges. You may hit a point where it feels difficult or impossible to keep pushing forward, especially when it’s into unknown territory. When you cultivate a growth mindset, it teaches you to face challenges headon. I believe that your abilities and intelligence can be developed and improved over time through learning, practice, and perseverance. To foster a growth mindset for staying innovative experimentation, learning is key. Even if you fail; learn from it and move on. Keep working and cultivate a growth mindset, for continuous innovation and adapt to the ever-changing landscape.

What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve the recognition you've earned in your field?

Secondly, building recognition in any field takes time. Stay persistent, and don't get discouraged by setbacks or slow progress. Build your brand and slogan; for creating a brand, I used

a combination of formal education, practical experience, and continuous self-improvement. L&D for me is a rewarding field because I witnessed creating a real impact. Well, firstly, the secret of making your dreams come true is to dream big, don’t work hard but harder, be focused and make your enthusiasm evident to others.

speaking engagements, writing articles, and sharing insights. It can help establish your expertise. My slogans: ”If they can, I also can” and “if no one thinks you can then you have to" Thirdly, build a network that opens doors to opportunities and helps you stay updated on industry trends. Lastly, learn to embrace a growth mindset by developing your leadership skills, step out of your comfort zone and be a learner.

INTERVIEW: DR. REENA BHANSALI - HRAI 50 UNDER 50 AWARD WINNER

What do you consider to be your most significant professional achievement, and how did it impact your career?

T

ransitioning from traditional HR to Strategic HR posed significant challenges, especially when HR roles were primarily associated with talent acquisition and event management. My noteworthy accomplishment was curbing Attrition from 34% to 18% within a year, a feat that demanded a shift in mindset, approach, and a substantial investment in comprehensive employee development. This transformation encompassed initiatives such as introducing work flexibility, investing in training programs, and facilitating events to foster collaboration and intellectual growth. Implementing complete automation in the HR department and adopting data-driven decision-making processes were key highlights of my tenure at Matellio. This journey not only impacted my professional growth but also shaped my personal outlook, enabling me to comprehend and align with the company's business goals and strategies. Shifting from merely fulfilling HR duties to serving as a vital liaison between management and the team marked a pivotal moment. From spearheading HR operations to securing representation in the executive team and contributing directly to the company's objectives, the impact has been profound and challenging to articulate fully.

What leadership principles or strategies have you found most effective in leading teams and organizations to success?

W

hat I found to be the most effective strategy is fostering

40

transparent communication and entrusting team members with decisionmaking responsibilities. When the team has a clear understanding of the vision and objectives, they are more likely to feel connected and engaged. Proactively addressing conflicts and guiding them through problem-solving not only boosts their confidence but also strengthens the team's cohesiveness. Encouraging strategic thinking and aligning their efforts with the organization's strategy enables team members to develop a stronger sense of belonging, fostering a deeper commitment to contributing to the company's objectives. Recognizing even small accomplishments and providing constructive criticism nurtures a culture of engagement and productivity within the team. Adhering to the principle of leading by example, where words and actions are in alignment, has become my foundational leadership philosophy. Embodying this ideology not only sets a standard for professionalism and integrity but also fosters a sense of trust and respect within the team, thereby cultivating a conducive and resultsdriven work environment.

What role do mentorship and collaboration play in your career? Have you had any influential mentors or collaborators who've shaped your professional journey?

I firmly believe in the power of a

collaborative approach, as it emphasizes teamwork and collective problem-solving, offering valuable lessons that are hard to come by through other means. Collaborating with colleagues, peers, and industry experts fosters the exchange of diverse perspectives, resulting in innovative solutions and increased productivity. Such collaborative environments nurture a sense of camaraderie, mutual support, and a shared sense of achievement.

As someone who initially ventured into the technical world with limited experience, I was fortunate to be mentored by exceptional individuals. Apoorv Gehlot, CEO of Matellio, along with Puneet Rao, COO, and Vijay Narwani, Head of Service Deliveries, played pivotal roles in shaping my career. Their guidance, shared experiences, and solutions had a profound impact on my professional journey. They not only provided insights into industry-specific challenges but also offered strategies for professional advancement, helping me navigate complex situations. In addition to these mentors, my colleagues, Govind Sharma, Daksh Rathore, and Sheetal Jain, have also been instrumental in my career development. In the corporate world, having the right inner circle is crucial as it significantly influences where one directs their energy and focus. They have not only provided support but also encouraged me to explore, experiment, and view failures as stepping stones to success.

What do you believe is the most critical skill or mindset for staying innovative and relevant in an ever-evolving industry?

Adaptability is a fundamental skill

necessary for maintaining innovation and relevance in an ever-evolving industry. It encompasses various crucial elements required for success in a dynamic business environment. Encouraging flexible thinking, adaptability fosters the exploration of new ideas and the challenging of traditional practices, promoting the adoption of innovative approaches that drive progress. Prioritizing continuous learning is essential, with a focus on cultivating a growth mindset and actively pursuing opportunities for knowledge expansion through courses, workshops, and learning from industry peers. Young professionals seeking to thrive in HR must prioritize personal growth, strategic networking, and perpetual learning. What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve the recognition you've earned in your field?

INTERVIEW: DR. RUBY BAKSHI KHURDI - HRAI 50 UNDER 50 AWARD WINNER

What do you consider to be your most significant professional achievement, and how did it impact your career?

When I was appointed as the

Academic Dean of a prestigious all girls boarding College in Switzerland, I was bit unsure if I could handle this big responsibility! It was a game changer for my career as I was the first Indian woman, under 30 heading the role, I did not have any role models to guide me. There were lots of expectations; I was literally struggling to carve a niche and prove worthy to my new role! It was not an easy task - managing teaching staff of diverse ethnicities who were more experienced than me, not speaking the local language, French and introducing innovative methods of teaching which people did not appreciate very much. Also, being youngest in the team sounds fancy but is not at all beneficial in real practice as people did not respect me in the beginning. INTERVIEW: HARMEET ANAND - HRAI 50 UNDER 50 AWARD WINNER

What do you consider to be your most significant professional achievement, and how did it impact your career?

I

have had the honor of supporting leaders from various walks of life from across the globe While each engagement has been extremely satisfying, when I had the opportunity to coach clients – who have faced systemic oppression, such as people of color, women, gender diverse leaders, differently abled leaders, youth or even folks who had to take a break from their profession in order to take up personal caregiving responsibilities – I have felt the magnitude and depth of my profession’s impact on the society. That is when I can truly feel a sense of achievement, which of course is tied into my clients’ progress, growth and their achievements – because it is all about their wins not mine.

What leadership principles or strategies have you found most effective in leading teams and organizations to success?

W

hile there are many leadership strategies one could adopt in professional leadership and organizational development, finally it all boils down to building conversational intelligence which is a must for leaders at all levels in organizations. Conversations are at the heart of coordination of work and action in teams. “Right conversations in the right mood” is a strategy for successful organizational building. Emotional intelligence and agility are other principles that people at all levels especially at the leadership roles must begin to build and foster. And at the collective level, creating a culture of learning, trust, and psychological safety, are absolute essentials in the any context.

Absolutely, yes – I have had mentors

and collaborators throughout my professional journey. Both during my professional history as a Marketeer and executive working within organizations in leadership roles and as an external executive coach. As an Executive Coach, many believe that we should have all the answers, it is obviously not possible nor necessary. I have had time and again reached out to mentors in my field, to further my learnings and hasten my learning curve. “We are never an island unto ourselves”. We need other humans to connect, guide and grow, and collaboration and alliances are a key for growth. I have learnt from many coaches who have been in the field for many decades and continue to do so. WE are always walking on a path where others have walked before, though our journeys are different. As mentees we need intellectual humility to learn from these mentors; and possess the wisdom to choose the right ones.

What matters is you are committed to grow personally while also being of service for the good of the collective.

A

beginners mindset i.e. someone who can be curious, not be afraid to ask questions to challenge the status quo and the ability to continue to learn through networking, and other sources. One needs to constantly pivot in action, while feeling safe and secure in their capacity to also learn. It is not only a mindset but an embodied way of being in the world. Something that I emphasize as a skill for all my coaching clients.

What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve the recognition you've earned in your field? a. After a few years of working in teams and others, you are bound to be aware of your strengths and growth edge. What do you consider to be your most significant professional achievement, and how did it impact your career?

There are 2 to 3 experiences in my

career which I hold very close to my heart, which helped shape my career as a HR professional. I. My stint with Aditya Birla Retail Ltd from 2007-2010, which helped me shape my early career, gave me deeper insights into hiring middle/top leadership cutting across verticals and business functions. Although it was backed by a large conglomerate, it still operated as a start up where we operated against strict budget and timelines. My interactions with senior leaders in strategy, private labels, finance, BD etc., helped me understand the retail business much better, I could better understand terms like EBITDA, Gross Margin, and Profitability etc. This in a way paved my way further for a rewarding career in Retail. II. In my stints with Reliance Retail & Jio, I got an opportunity to lead a large-scale organization integration projects involving multiple businesses cutting across formats. For me, this integration was the first of its kind of experience which involved integrating people, process, and technology for three different Business Units. This exercise gave me an opportunity to partner with senior business leaders in organization building, managing change, identifying, and removing silos/redundancies within the org while integrating people, policies, processes, and HR systems. III. I played an instrumental role in building teams grounds up for the Jio Business across Product, Sales, Marketing, Real Estate, Network, Supply Chain and Engineering Functions. My stints with Reliance

I have always demonstrated work ethic, attitude, and behavior that I expect from others. II. Motivation and Recognition: I have always motivated my teams by recognizing and appreciating their efforts and achievements. We have celebrated our wins and learnings with equal excitement and fervor. III. Delegate and Trust: I believe in empowering my team members by delegating responsibilities and trusting them to complete tasks. Trusting your team boosts their confidence and performance. IV. Adaptability and Flexibility: I have always kept myself open to adapt to changing circumstances and I am flexible in my approach. I am open to new ideas and am willing to change strategies if the current ones are not working.

V. Team Building: I have always focused on building strong, cohesive teams. I have helped foster a positive team culture, encourage collaboration, and resolve conflicts promptly and constructively. VI. Continuous Learning: I stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and management techniques. Continuous learning helps me make informed decisions. VII. HR Leaders must keep the learning mode on and should always look forward to opportunities for newer collaborations and partnerships with varied industry business leaders. Industries evolve because they face new challenges. Those who can identify these challenges and find innovative solutions are invaluable. Cultivating a problem-solving mindset allows you to approach challenges creatively, fostering innovation in your work. Innovation often thrives in collaborative environments. Being

78

able to work effectively in teams, share ideas, and build upon others' contributions can lead to groundbreaking innovations. Networking and collaborating with professionals from diverse backgrounds can introduce fresh perspectives and ideas. Even if you work within a larger organization, adopting an entrepreneurial mindset can drive innovation. This means being proactive, taking calculated risks, and being willing to experiment. Entrepreneurs often lead the way in innovation because they are unafraid to try new things. In all this one must not forget that the customer comes first, understanding the needs and desires of your customers (or end-users) is fundamental to innovation. Being able to empathize with your audience helps in creating products, services, or solutions that truly meet their needs, increasing the likelihood of success.

What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve the recognition you've earned in your field?

M y advice to budding HR

professionals is simple and straight, keep innovating and keep learning. No one has ever grown in life without continuous learning. Be open to feedback and keep collaborating with people smarter than you. Always start with the “why” and if that is clear the “how” will automatically get cleared in your mind. Look at doing things in the simplest manner, don’t try to over complicate simple things. Don’t take stress about the result, just follow the process, do that daily and you will see the result for yourself. Focus on the goods, create your impressions early on in your career and look for mentors who can guide you in the right direction. Be open to embrace change and be flexible to embrace new technologies when required. Most importantly, ask questions, ask as many questions as you can so that you get the required information and clarity!

He serves on various boards, including KARE School Hyderabad and is the CEO and Chairman of the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA). He's also a Board Member of startups and investment banks.

INTERVIEW: SANDEEP CHATTERJEE - HRAI 50 UNDER 50 AWARD WINNER

What do you consider to be your most significant professional achievement, and how did it impact your career?

A sk any Supply Chain Professional

and he/she will say that the highest quality work in this field in the Supply Chain Network Optimization. Not everyone gets to work on this as most companies have a supply chain presence and over the years there are continuous improvements and disruptions. I had the privilege of working on a network optimization for an FMCG firm which is into edible oils, popcorn and other snack options. The challenge with this assignment was that, though we were part of a global organization, no one had done this before. Additionally, we did not have the skillset to do this and external hiring was also not feasible as there was no one who had worked in this industry and also had an understanding of the Oracle ERP space as data was prime in optimized the supply chain network. The company was makes continuous losses and were looking at an avenue to arrest revenue leakage in the supply chain. The fact that I said yes though I knew the risks were too many. But this catapulted my career into a different league altogether. This was the first implementation of integrated Oracle EBS-SNO in the world.

What leadership principles or strategies have you found most effective in leading teams and organizations to success?

W

e are in an era where five generations are in the workforce including retired pensioners. I have found the authentic leadership style to be more effective as people start looking at you as someone who can be trusted. Trust is a privilege now in this era of fake news and mad rush for visibility. It is fine to see a leader

as vulnerable and the fact that someone has the guts to stand up and say that I made a mistake makes a lot of difference. The Gen Z and Gen Alpha which is christened into Design Thinking appreciates this as failing fast and getting up are the order of the day. The older generation does no prefer an autocratic approach as there are egos involved and hence this style of “I do not know all, I am ready to learn, I want people in the team who are better than me, I value youth and experience” have become hotbeds now. Of course one size does not fit all and hence tweaking things based on the situation is also important for a leader.

What role do mentorship and collaboration play in your career? Have you had any influential mentors or collaborators who've shaped your professional journey?

T he role of a mentor is that of a guru and in this context age does not matter. It is important to know someone who can help you navigate through the uncertainties. There will be situations where you will not have answers and you need someone who can give you a lending ear. He/She may not have all the answers but their ability to see through something which you cannot see helps a lot. Most of us grew in a very competitive environment which did not offer many avenues for collaboration. But we need to understand that in a world with so much uncertainty, a single individual cannot do things on his/her own. There is enough for everyone in the ecosystem and he/she wins the game if he/she partners with someone to synchronize their strengths and weaknesses. It is about efficiency, speed and disruption which need collaboration. I was very lucky to have a mentor in Vinaya Guduru (Infosys days) who had always guided me during some of the testing times. The fact that I always had his back made me do the impossible.

What do you believe is the most critical skill or mindset for staying

innovative and relevant in an everevolving industry?

I

believe that the world is changing every minute and hence it is important to try out new things. It can be new business models, new ways of communicating, new ways of collaboration, new product or a new service. It is important to challenge the existing assumptions and have the mindset of the art of possibilities. Some fundamentals around learning, unlearning and relearning never change and this is critical to stay relevant and innovative. We do not have to invent something new but leverage the existing knowledge which are present in parts and knit them into a value proposition. Reading, experimenting, experiencing are critical to stay relevant. The old adage that keep your eyes and ears open is still very much valid and kicking. It is also important to explore beyond functions and industries as many of the ideas come from the not so obvious sources.

What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve the recognition you've earned in your field? Embrace Failure: See failure as a natural part of life; our education often neglects teaching resilience. Persevere: Keep trying; you won't win every battle, but don't lose without putting up your best fight. Beyond the Job: Your job isn't your identity. Explore hobbies, teach, trek, contribute to your community —find purpose beyond the workplace. Continuous Learning: Step out of your comfort zone; learn beyond your domain to adapt to a changing world and diverse perspectives. Enjoy Life: Don't take life too seriously; have fun and find joy in the journey.

Technical Challenge: Since challenge lies on spatial data are stored in different format in these two database and even latest version of OGG not supports spatial replication from Oracle to PostGIS and OGG PM and development team also acknowledged that there is NO ETA to enable this support as ER (Enhance Request) in near future. By considering the Oracle’s opportunity in Government Sector and deal value on this engagement, I was able to come up with a workaround that is effective for realtime replication from Oracle Spatial to PostGIS by translating the SDO_Geometry to WKT at runtime and again re-translated WKT to ST_GEOMETRY at target. Impact: The novelty is that: a) Nobody has attempted real-time Geometry to WKT translation till date b) I successfully showed real-time replication to a client despite Oracle Golden Gate's that helped to win the big deal. c) Our Solution engineering team got high visibility and highly appreciated by Senior Top management

I have encountered people who have wished to befriend me, collaborate with me for their benefit and success but not reciprocate. T

he role of mentorship and collaboration in my career has been instrumental. As a Woman Entrepreneur, navigating this path can be isolating, and having a mentor has proven to be invaluable in moments that demand support or answers to pressing questions. Mentorship, to me, is a reciprocal process; it's not just about receiving guidance but also about giving back. This dynamic exchange allows both mentor and mentee to evolve. Throughout my journey, I've been fortunate to have multiple mentors. Actively seeking meaningful conversations and cultivating relationships for learning and growth has been a cornerstone of my approach.

What do you believe is the most critical skill or mindset for staying innovative and relevant in an ever-evolving industry?

I

believe the most crucial skills revolve around building a strong network, staying updated on newer approaches, and maintaining the enthusiasm to continuously upgrade yourself. Remaining within the confines of complacency and assuming "all is well" is not sustainable. Embrace the inevitability of change, as it is often said to be the only constant. As mentioned earlier, being nimble-footed and agile is the game-changer in this dynamic landscape.

What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve the recognition you've earned in your field?

My advice to anyone in any field is simple: keep going. Don't give up! It's okay to attempt and fail; it's better than not trying at all. The notion that successful people achieve success on their first try is a myth. In reality, they have faced failure 99% of the time to attain that 1% success.

fter having spent many years imparting training to industry as well as academia, the decision to turn my passion and profession into an entrepreneurial venture was a turning point in my career spanning more than two decades. When I cofounded Dancing Lighthouse a few years ago, it signified an expansion of the L&D canvas from myself to more trainers as well as more clients. The belief that corporate training could be valuable AS WELL AS interesting at scale was put to test with the venture. Dancing Lighthouse looks at training interventions as interesting solutions to problems and challenges, instead of instructional sessions on a topic to fill the specified number of hours. The effort is always directed at putting more ‘heart’ to the pedagogy so as to give ‘learning by heart’ a completely new meaning. We specialize in designing and delivering live corporate training interventions as well as open workshops primarily in the areas of Soft Skills, Attitudinal Shift and Marketing & Branding. The warm acceptance that Dancing Lighthouse received rather quickly by companies of all sizes, including marquee corporate clients, was a vindication of my belief in the power of training delivered interestingly and engagingly. This acted as a welcome catalyst to expand our portfolio. Today, Dancing Lighthouse offers live learning experiences in domains as diverse as Communication, Creative Thinking, Overcoming Biases, Campusto-Corporate Transition, Data-Driven Decision-Making, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, to name just a few.

INTERVIEW: SUCHITA DUTTA- HRAI 50 UNDER 50 AWARD WINNER

What do you consider to be your most significant professional achievement, and how did it impact your career?

Through my efforts over the years in

public policy/advocacy, I have been instrumental in driving a significant policy change for the Staffing industry (Parliamentary approval on National/State license for formal staffing companies). I have been part of the standing committee for Ministry of Statistics for its significant studies; been involved in the discussion of the skilling eco-system to improve the employability gap in the country and encourage ways to improve the formal employment that impacts the grassroots of the country. This achievement among others has had a profound impact and opened up multi-faceted opportunities, that has encouraged me to contribute in various aspects for the growth of the employment sector. In my current role, it has given me the chance to establish new marketing channels and forge connections with key stakeholders in the industry. I also consistently engage with policymakers to provide crucial insights to promote a more formal employment landscape. Not only has this enhanced my expertise, but it has also established me as a trusted advocate for positive change within the employment sector.

What leadership principles or strategies have you found most effective in leading teams and organizations to success?

L eading by example and then give

but when we encourage the team member to achieve their potential, that success makes the difference. Aligning each to the value of the vision and show them how everyone can work together to achieve that goal in their role, always builds the right culture for long term success.

What role do mentorship and collaboration play in your career? Have you had any influential mentors or collaborators who've shaped your professional journey?

Mentorship and collaboration have

been my two most important pillars that has led me to the road of success. Most times it doesn’t have to be an identified individual in a formal structure of mentor-mentee relation, but many people will become guiding lights in their own way. I have been lucky to have found my mentors in the leaders I have worked in the past or currently work with. I also find it essential to involve with people outside of the immediate circle to collaborate as this not only helps in improving self-learning but also increase the bandwidth of the possibilities.

What do you believe is the most critical skill or mindset for staying innovative and relevant in an ever-evolving industry?

B e open to change and learning,

that is the only way to survive in the ever evolving industry. Gain as much experience as possible and keep upskilling to match the change. You never know which skill can become more important in future, thus ensure you are equally strong with more than one relevant skill.

What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve the recognition you've earned in your field?

The one advice that has turned

stones into pathways for me, is persistence & persuasion. There is no shortcut, if one has to climb the career ladder. It is uphill and full of ups-and downs; failures are very important as they teach more than success. Be persistent with efforts and ensure to continue your journey of learning, there is no limit to that ever.

eadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do Dwight Eisenhower. As per Daniel Goleman there are various styles of leadership, be it Visionary, Coaching, Affiliative, Democratic, Commanding and Pacesetter. In my opinion, the most effective leader integrates four or more of the six styles regularly, using the most appropriate, depending on the situation. Therefore it depends on a particular situation where a leader has to adapt a specific style. Lastly, in all situations the leader needs to lead from the front & take decisions emboldening his/her team to deliver.

What role do mentorship and collaboration play in your career? Have you had any

114

influential mentors or collaborators who've shaped your professional journey?

I think the most critical skill

required by any individual is to have a learning mindset & ready to evolve. I distinctly remember during my Army days when I was a Colonel, a new technology was introduced in our units & lo-behold there I was sitting with my troops on ground & learning the same. It was quite challenging for me to learn new things at that juncture, but the will, josh & the eagerness to gain new skill was overwhelming. Similarly when moving to Corporate life, it was never ever easy to learn new things in the industry & stay abreast with latest innovations. Strong believer of learning never ends & should continue always.

What's your top advice for young professionals looking to achieve

the recognition you've earned in your field?

O wn your actions. In January 1999,

as a new Lieutenant, during a foggy PT Parade, my Commanding Officer emphasized ownership. While running with my squad, he stopped me, highlighting the importance of personal responsibility. This lesson, etched in that cold morning, underscores the significance of taking ownership in everything we do

While walking he kept on asking about myself & how I was adjusting with the unit life as an officer. He then stopped in front of a Sign Board & told me “Vohra, read it”. I with all my exuberance read it from top to bottom 1) Desh ki izzat – Country’s pride 2) Unit ki izzat – Regiment’s pride 3) Apni izzat – Own pride. He told me No, read it from bottom to top & I did it as 1)Apni Izzat 2)Unit ki Izzat 3)Desh ki Izzat. It was then he explained to me the importance of Own Pride first, the reasons for leading from front always, the reasons for finishing a task in time, the reasons for taking the Ownership first, they are all because we work for our own pride & once we do it, automatically our Unit’s Pride & Country’s Pride will go up. That was my 1st lesson on Ownership which one carries till date. " When a team takes ownership of its problems, the problem gets solved. It is true on the battlefield, it is true in business, and it is true in life”. Jocko Willink

y significant professional achievement was working on 3 backto-back acquisitions. I had supported the due diligence documentation, data, and analysis of the same. I was also part of the core group which worked on team and process integration of the acquired entities. This was in addition to the normal operations that I was handling at that time. This made me realize my potential in collaborating as a team. This is when I started to delegate some portion of the work, which in turn helped to improve my team management, mentoring and multitasking skills.

What leadership principles or strategies have you found most effective in leading teams and organizations to success?

L

istening to team members’ ideas and thoughts is a must for all leaders. Showing appreciation for even simple things, openness to feedback, being patient especially when training and mentoring new members, respecting others’ opinions even contrary to our own are some of the principles that I go by. We also need to be there for the teams to support them in times when they need us. Basically, I strongly believe in Aspire’s core value of providing ‘Freedom with Responsibility’. Last of all, I would like to inculcate the core values in my team by practising them. To me, a leader leads by example.

Similarly, collaboration is equally important in professional attainment. In my professional life I have experimented various collaborative tools intra as well inter organization. A better collaboration often leads to attainment of targets and goals. Both mentorship and collaboration has significance in my journey and the same I am trying to pass on to my team and future leaders.
