Lowell Thompson built many quality affordable homes in Howe in the late 1950s which helped the growth of the city He served as city councilman and was an active member of the Howe Volunteer Fire Department Thompson, a supporter of the scouting program, constructed the first racetrack for the Pinewood Derby

Ernest Wortham was a longtime worker for Petty-Ray Geophysical Company and later opened Wortham Feed and Seed
