Howe's EDC Director spent the latter part of the week at a retail trade show in Dallas seeking out new businesses to bring to Howe He was able to give us some highly secretive information, but we were told it was highly classified and not for publication

The Howe Bulldogs (4-2, 01) had a 7-game home winning streak and hadn't lost at Bulldog Stadium since November of 2014 The Pottsboro Cardinals (51, 1-0) ended all of that with a 35-7 win over Howe on Friday night The 'Dogs knew Pottsboro would be their toughest opponent on their schedule in District 53A and opening district with that caliber of a team can be a good thing said Howe Head Coach Zack Hudson during the week

Playing a team like that will expose some of your weaknesses and I'd rather have that done early than heading into the playoffs " said Hudson

Howe Scout creates flag box for Eagle project

Gage King of Howe in seeking his promotion from Boy Scout to Eagle Scout will have to complete a Eagle Scout Service Project, which is a project that benefits the community and shows leadership Those projects take tremendous training and effort and King decided that his project would allow for the proper retirement of U S flags He got a big boost when he got some help from a local company to take his good idea and make it a spectacular one

Car Wrap City in Sherman's owner Scott Bechtel is a US Air Force veteran wanted to help with the project when he heard of it

What is the Silver Spike?

The Silver Spike trophy was the brainchild back in 2001 by sports writer Jeff Wood of the Van Alsty Leader and then future Howe Enterprise owner Monte Walker

Howe's first possession started at their own 47 yard line and ended on an interception by Pottsboro's Mitchusson The Cardinals would drive the field and face a 4th and long situation and Watson rolled out of the pocket under pressure and threw the jump ball near the goal line which was intercepted by Seth Seibold That gave Howe the ball deep in the shadow of their own end zone at the 15 yard line The Bulldogs had to punt, which was actually a -3 yard punt that gave Pottsboro the ball in great position to score at the Howe 31 yard line That set up a 4-yard touchdown in the second quarter by Watson to up the Cardinal advantage, 14-0 after the Dane Marburger extra point

Howe's next possession ended again with another punt by Wall which send Pottsboro back to their own 32 yard line That's when Howe forced a punt and were given a break with a a bad kick and a personal foul on Blake Poe which gave the 'Dogs the ball at the Pottsboro 24 yard line with 8:28 left before the half However, Wall threw his second interception of the night, this one by Carson Rein at the Pottsboro 1 yard line The Cardinals drove to midfield before turning the ball ove downs, but Howe was una score with a minute left be half Pottsboro took a 14into the locker room

Howe started out strong w football in the second half quick hitter up the middle Wall A few plays later, T Grisham needing two yard first, ended up with 15 and touchdown to cut Pottsbor in half at 14-7 after the Br Honaker PAT

From there on out, it was all Pottsboro Cardinal ru back Ryan Roberts ran in yard score Rein took one over from the 2 yard line and backup quarterback Hunter punched one in late with a 1-yarder which was the only points scored in the fourth quarter

Howe will now take on rival Van Alstyne in an ever so important district game with huge playoff implications The 54th Battle of the Silver Spike will take place in Van Alstyne on Friday at 7:30 pm.
