Teafatiller is the high school principal in the last 80 years at Howe ISD
Previous Howe High School principals:

Michael Smiley (2012-16)
Blake Stiles (2007-12) to give the school what it needed " said Teafatiller "As a classroom teacher, it was pretty easy to juggle But as an administrator, with all the extra duties and responsibilities, it became too much so I resigned my position there (with the church). But I still saw the school as my mission field "
Teafatiller sees the Howe community as a breathe of fresh air "Having only been in the community only a few months now, I've been very pleased and maybe even in some regards surprised of the importance of faith in this community It was important where I was before, but here it seems to be in the fabric of the teachers, the administrators and the community Once I learned more about the community of Howe, I wasn't surprised that they were at least interested in visiting with me there at the beginning having seen my background, at least on a resume "
Teafatiller says that there has been no surprises in the first week with kids back on campus He says that three or four people have told him that they are off to the best start in several years
"It's been really smooth." said Teafatiller "Maybe it's just a honeymoon period, but the kids are trying to adjust and get to know me and my expectations "
He told them on the first day that he has but only three rules for high school "They are very simple rules Each rule is only two words long "
Teafatiller's rules are:
1 Be safe
2 Be respectful
3 Be responsible
"I feel like it's my responsibility to maintain a safe learning environment for our kids " said Teafatiller "I can't create a learning environment that's not safe It has to be safe and then we have to focus on academics It should be so safe and it should be so easy that we never really pay too much attention to it."
Teafatiller went on to explain that safety comes with physical safety as well as emotional safety In the second rule, he wants the kids to be respectful to one another, to the teachers and themselves In the third and final rule, he said he explained to the students that being responsible means taking responsibility for their work, being on time, for their words, and for their actions
"What I have found in my career as an educator and as youth minister as well for that matter is that if we do those three things well, we can't keep from being successful " said Teafatiller "I tell the kids that if you do those three things, you will be successful. Of course that's not a rule - that's an outcome "
With the number one rule of keeping the campus safe, Teafatiller said that he does not recommend
"The officer's authority has changed by the state legislature over the last couple of years " said Teafatiller "As I told the superintendent, 'There's not an issue on this campus that I can't handle And those that I can't, it's just a phone call to the PD '"
