Keep Howe Beautiful Yard of the Month

Ten members of the Howe FFA Chapter were awarded the Lone Star FFA Degree during the annual Texas FFA Convention that occurred at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, Texas the week of July 1115, 2016 The Lone Star FFA Degree is the highest degree bestowed by the Texas FFA The Howe students who received this 2016 honor were Mati Abner, Zach Braswell, Hunter Brockelman, Jessica Doty, Kamryn Fulenchek, Tanner Hartsfield, Brennan Ross, Seth Seibold, Josh Van Deren, and Cody Welch There were 11 Howe members who attended the conference including Howe FFA teachers Tracy and Ronald Blum

The Lone Star FFA Degree recognizes FFA members who have received the Chapter degree, been active FFA members for at least two years, completed at least four semesters of agricultural science at or above the ninth grade level, maintained a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program, demonstrated their leadership skills, and have shown a commitment to the FFA through involvement at the chapter level and above

The 88th annual Texas FFA Convention recorded approximately 12,000 members and guests Members of the state’s largest agricultural youth leadership organization spent the week attending leadership workshops, participating in events and activities, being recognized for their achievements, and serving as the legislative body for the Texas FFA Association

The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 115,000 FFA gives students the opportunity to apply practical classroom knowledge to real world experiences through local, state and national competitions

At Keep Howe Beautiful's monthly meeting last Monday night, they discussed requests for the Yard of the Month Board member Becky Hogenson informed the rest of the members that she had been given several requests for the same home, 209 Walnut Street owned by Nathan Tillett

Hogenson said that several citizens each cited how much work Tillett does on his yard and should be recognized for the hard work
