Whether you are working for someone or just getting your “To Do” list done; Jesus is your boss so do everything the very best you can and with gratefulness We each will answer to the Lord one day and there is no way around it I desire with my whole heart (my mind, my will and my emotions) to hear “Well done My good and faithful servant ”

Matthew 25:23 that we are to put songs in our heart to lift each other up and to sing to the Lord What kind of music are you singing back to the Jesus?

“Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically and with all your soul, as something done for the Lord and not for men,” Colossians 3:23

Give your best all the time even if you never get credit for the good Don’t be a slacker when you think you can get away with it Some people speed and run through red lights when they think they can get away with it Some people come to work late and some leave early when they think they can get away with it Some people will take things home from work, some will cheat on tests, and some will give less than their best effort when they think no one is watching Here’s a challenge; for one week focus on everything you do (and don’t do) and everything you say (and don’t say) as if you were working for Jesus You’ll have to put some effort in thinking this way This verse was a “light bulb moment” for me several years back One day someone ask me how it felt not to have a boss I replied, “Oh but I do and always have and I always will I work for a King and His name is Jesus!” You do too, so do everything with diligence, don’t be lazily and slow; be cheerfully, not disgruntled Weather you are serving your family, church or a stranger; serve as if you are preparing and serving Jesus

Colossians is a Book that tells Christians how we should be living In the final verses of chapters three and four, Paul covers a lot concerning the victorious lifestyle He wrote about worship services, about husbands and wives, parents and children, bosses and employees, and prayer, right speech and making time count “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord,” Col 3:16 This verse means that if the Word of God is not "dwelling in you richly," it is because you are not letting the Word take authority in your life You can go as far and as fast as you want to go in God’s Word That’s why some people grow spiritually mature quicker than others What you get out of anything is in direct proportion to what you put into it This is true of spiritual things as well Compare spiritual growth in God’s word to academic growth in college I could take one 5 credit class a semester and get my degree years and years and years down the road Or, I can attend full time and graduate in 4 years God does not force you to be a full time student even when He sees your heart holding tight to the world “Admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord ” This part of the verse is saying

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him,” Col 3:17 Paul wrote that whatever we do, whether it is speaking or doing things, we are told to do them in the name of Jesus. Paul is answering most all questions Christians ask concerning what is lawful for Christians to do Would you commit adultery in the name of Jesus? Would you have an abortion in the name of Jesus? Would you belittle your wife and children in the name of Jesus? Would you disrespect your husband in the name of Jesus? Would you watch sinful behavior on TV and movies for entertainment in the name of Jesus? Would you hold back His first fruits of tithes in the name of Jesus? Would you bear false witness in the name of Jesus? Would you marry someone who is not a Christian and be unequally yoked in the name of Jesus? Would you lie, cheat and manipulate in the name of Jesus? Would you hate or side with hate in the name of Jesus? This Scripture answers such questions as, "Can I smoke pot, get drunk, do drugs, or get involved in a sexual situation in the name of Jesus?" If you can’t do them FOR Jesus to glorify Him, then it’s obviously something you should not do

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Then you will be able to discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God,” Romans 12:2 God is a good Father and He gives good instructions to His children If you do not have a bible please contact me at sfadebbie@yahoo com and I will provide you one.

Question I have several cookbooks that I have collected over the years written or edited by Helen Corbitt I understand she was in charge of the Zodiac Room at Neiman Marcus for years I am going to move into a smaller home and need to sell some of my collection I am enclosing a list of her cookbooks that are in my collection. Are any of them worth anything to collectors?

Answer: Anyone who knows me knows that I rarely cook But as a collector of Texana books, I have a few dozen cookbooks, including several by Helen Corbitt

Corbitt was a gifted chef and nutritionist (she was therapeutic dietitian at Cornell Medical Center, New York) and the Director of Restaurants for Neiman Marcus and planned all the menus at The Greenhouse Spa in Arlington She wrote four cookbooks before her 1978 death and had completed the manuscript for a fifth cookbook

Helen Corbitt’s Cookbook (more than 350,000 copies sold); Helen Corbitt’s Potluck, a collection of easily-served meals that can be prepared quickly from leftovers or ingredients on hand; Helen Corbitt Cooks for Looks, with recipes for slimming meals; Helen Corbitt Cooks for Company, recipes for holidays and special occasions; and Mexico Through My Kitchen Window, south-of-the-border

Georgia Caraway

favorites, edited with Maria deCarbia Helen Corbitt’s Greenhouse Cookbook, published posthumously, presents a fourweek dietary plan, based on her recipes for the Spa (With recipes such as Cream Cheese Soufflé, Irish Chocolate Cake, Shrimp and Spinach Quiche, and Trout with Red and Green Pepper Sauce, this is the diet for me )

After I received your letter, I checked my personal collection and found I own all but Potluck That probably makes sense since you have to cook to have leftovers or ingredients on hand

My favorite website for checking on all types of book prices is bibliofind com I checked out the latest prices for the Corbitt books and found 98 listings for her books: Cooks for Looks $8-34, HC’s Cookbook $18-90, Potluck $10-42, HC Cooks for Company $38-72, Mexico through My Kitchen Window $26-51, HC’s Greenhouse Cookbook $8-40 And surprise, surprise, I found a sixth book on the website, Helen Corbitt’s Collection, edited three years after her death by Elizabeth Ann Johnson, 1981, a compilation of 1,000 of her best-loved recipes, offered for $40-119.

The Best from Helen Corbitt’s Kitchens (UNT Press, 2000) edited by Patty Vineyard MacDonald is in its third printing proving that Corbitt still has a large following It is available at Amazon com Condition is important in collecting any books To get top price the book should be clean, free of stains, no wear around the edges, corners not bumped or bent, leather covers in good condition, no water damage or stains, no writing except the author’s autograph, no foxing (light brown spots caused by iron or fungus in the paper), and dust jackets should be present and in excellent condition

Dr Georgia Caraway, former director of the Denton County Museums for 14 years, and her friends opened the Howe Mercantile at 107 East Haning Store hours are Thursday through Saturday noon until 8 p m She has written five Denton history books Her latest, North Texas State Fair and Rodeo, will be available at Howe Mercantile in August She hopes her next book will be the history of Howe
