Howe's That

The media can be an evil force in this country There is such pressure to feed the economic machine for those conglomerate news sources such as CNN, Fox News, and of course the 'Big Four' (CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX) They fight for ratings because those who have the most ratings, can get the most advertisers and charge the most money for advertising Collectively, the top 200 advertisers in the United States spent a record $137.8 billion on advertising in 2014, up 2 percent year on year, according to Ad Age's annual "200 Leading National Advertisers" report In order to obtain those ratings, they must grab the most attention they can get Will they get that from peace and love stories? Um, no We can look on the highway every morning and find out what gets attention Every time there is a car accident, drivers will nearly come to a complete stop in the roadway to possibly get a glimpse of something they say they don't want to see

We as a consumer are fully responsible We're responsible for irresponsible journalism, outrageous sports ticket prices, and everything in between that we gripe about but can't live without

We, at the Howe Enterprise are not perfect and have made mistakes in this area also, but try to be different We don't focus on the rubber-necking accidents on US 75 We don't focus on the drug busts in our city that you never hear about We focus on the great things about our city - the people Could we get more visits to howeenterprise com if we chased ambulances and police sirens? Absolutely. But at some point, integrity matters and this publication will leave those dollars on the table Lets focus on the good and live moderately instead of focusing on the bad and living in greed
