nothing The time had come for our Savior to be in the hands of those who sought His death and He says only a few words but what He says is powerful “And the high priest stood up and said, ‘Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against You?’ But Jesus remained silent And the high priest said to Him, ‘I put You under oath by the living God, tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God " Jesus said to him, "You have said so But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven ’ Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has uttered blasphemy! What further witnesses do we need?

“And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He made no answer Then Pilate said to Him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against You?” And He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so that the governor was quite amazed,” Matthew 27:12-14

Pilate knew the truth, and the Jews were opposing the truth The Jews had unjustly convicted Jesus and Pilate had justly exonerated Him Hoping that Jesus would come to His own defense and help expose the deceitful Jewish leaders, Pilate said to Him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against You?” But, again, Jesus didn’t answer him to a single charge Pilate had confronted hundreds of accused men and most of them loudly protested their innocence and were willing to say or do anything to save themselves Many of them made countercharges against their accusers or else passionately pled for mercy

A person who said nothing in his own defense was unheard of and beyond belief But Jesus was innocent and it was obvious that it demanded no defense on His part

Jesus had spent three years teaching His disciples He had so much to say in those three years and now He says

You have now heard His blasphemy! What is your judgment?’ They answered, ‘He deserves death,’’ Matthew 26:6166

Jesus did not have to be taken away by force He was willing to go because He understood, as no one else could have understood, what He was about to face Jesus understood the holiness of God and He understood the consequences coming upon Him as the Sinbearer for the entire world “From now on you will see Me seated at the right hand of Almighty God ” That was an amazing statement of life beyond the grave, as well as a statement that the Father and the Son would be together in power “You will see Me coming on the clouds of heaven ” Jesus is the Messiah, seen in a vision by Daniel, bringing heaven to earth in the final day He is the Son of God, and you and I will see Him

“But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name,” John 20:31

Harvey continued from Page #2 will be a freshman next season and expected to fill the shoes of older sister

"She just got on the select team that I was on " said Harvey "They had their first practice the other day and everyone kept asking her if she was Riley's sister, because we look alike, I guess My mom was a little worried because what's expected of her isn't going to be the same as what I did She'll be a good We're a competitive family She'll be good "

Riley Harvey benefited from the rare advantage of going from one Coach Lands to another Shannon Lands is the eighth grade girls basketball coach and her husband Derek is the varsity girls basketball coach Harvey feels that helped tremendously with the transition her freshman year

"Mrs Lands eased us into a game that we would be playing in high school and that helped us " said Harvey "It also helps to build a program and a future "

Harvey's Howe basketball future is behind her and she reflected on the final game against Grandview in the area championship that knocked the Lady Bulldogs out and finished the senior careers

"We knew it was going to be a tough game We'd played them before " said Harvey "We didn't expect to lose by 20 They fought harder We could have closed the gap but we never did They physically and mentally pushed us with the press It was like a mental block that we couldn't

overcome "

The game ended a three-year run of four starters working together towards a common goal Those four inlcuded Harvey, Holly Hawkins, Darci Foster and Alissa Smith As sophomore starters, they paid no attention to their youth and inexperience and marched their way to the playoffs until finally losing to Alvord

"I just remember people saying, 'they're so young,' but after that year, you only have two years left" said Harvey "At some point, you just have play Even if you're 15-year-olds playing against 18-year-olds - that's why you're on varsity - you can do it When we lost to Alvord, we had two years left, but those two years went fast "

After graduation, she will head to Stephen F. Austin State University, as her parents did Due to excellent planning and taking college classes while in high school, she will obtain her Associates Degree even before she will be presented with her High School Diploma in June Her plans are not to be on the basketball team, but her plans are to play the game she loves

"I know that it's not going to come easy I'm going to have to work at it just as I had to the same in high school " said Harvey "I know what it takes to make it as a freshman and I know how much work it takes to start That's why I'm working out now and trying to get stronger because I know that I won't be the tallest in college continued from Page #13

Q This lovely little duck planter is one of my favorites It has a mark on the bottom that I think reads “Dryden ” Can you tell me anything about this pottery?

A Dryden Pottery was founded in Ellsworth, Kansas in 1946 by James Dryden James Dryden studied chemistry at the University of Illinois and art at Kansas University. Dryden made molded pieces from his own plaster molds and glazes made from volcanic ash from Ellsworth County and other ingredients in a two-fire method In 1947, he was turning out 2000 pieces a week The pieces made in Ellsworth County were made of dark tan clay A Fiesta-type dinnerware was produced in the late 1940s By 1948, distribution of the pottery was to more than 600 stores in 22 states In the 1950s, Dryden sold some pottery to the Van Briggle Pottery to offset his loss in over the counter sales In 1956 the pottery was moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas The move to Hot Springs was an attempt to cash in on the tourists racing to that city Hot Springs pieces were made of pure white clay Dryden Pottery specializes in one of a kind signed collector’s pieces

The founder of another pottery located in Hot Springs, Jack Buck, apprenticed at Dryden Potteries for fi lif or turquoise and green on dinnerware and other utility pieces A small amount of solid red items was made, but red was discontinued because a separate firing at lower temperature was necessary and the oxides needed to make the color were too expensive Mr Buck created many of his own molds, however some Dryden molds were commercially made Wheel made pottery is also made. The pottery is incised “Hot Springs Pottery, Ark ” Hand thrown items have the word “Originals” and the initials “J B ”

Although neither of these potteries has caught fire among collectors, they are attractive and certainly functional We have found several pieces at thrift shops and at garage sales The glazes are beautiful Apparently you can get your name engraved in pieces, because we found “Tom” and “Shirley” matching mugs at a school fundraiser garage sale
